College football news: five-star quarterback has several scholarship offers

Biggest letdown since the 2019 Michigan game?

When I was 17 years old and a senior in high school I remember just a day or two after my beloved Chicago Cubs choked against the Florida Marlins in the National League Championship Series that Dan Patrick was hosting SportsCenter one evening when they landed an interview with Steve Bartman.

Or so they thought.

After a couple minutes of discussion about the infamous foul ball that played a part in the Cubs collapse, a Patrick question about Bartman being able to stay in the Chicago area was met with a reference to the Howard Stern Show that I’ll let you listen to yourself.

Anyway, Patrick responds by simply saying, “We’ve been had.  That wasn’t Steve Bartman.”

Ladies and gentlemen, tonight I’d like to inform you that we at Fighting Irish Wire as well as countless college football fans nationally have been had.

Five-star quarterback [autotag]Dante Moore[/autotag] was supposed to make an announcement Tuesday night along with the Hayes Fawcett account.  Much was made from many, ourselves included, about what that announcement might be.

Well, we’re here to tell you what Moore shared with the world tonight and that is that he is a young man with several football scholarship offers.

Friends, we just witnessed the 2022 college football version of Geraldo opening Al Capone’s vault.

Well played, young Dante.  Well played.

Tom Brady could care less about his legacy

Bucs QB Tom Brady spoke on “The Howard Stern Show” this week about his decision to leave the Patriots and why legacy doesn’t matter to him.

Watching NFL players on Sundays, we tend to forget that they are people just like you and me. Sure, they may be more famous and make more money, but at the end of the day, they have family, friends and real-life obligations like the rest of us.

Even so, it’s still hard to view a guy like Tom Brady as just your average Joe. Brady, the six-time Super Bowl champion and arguably the greatest quarterback to ever play the game, left the New England Patriots this offseason after a 20-year run that produced nine Super Bowl appearances and three regular season MVPs. Now in Tampa Bay, Brady is looking to continue his streak of success and help return the Buccaneers to the postseason for the first time since 2007.

But, if you think Brady is concerned at all about his legacy and how leaving New England may affect it, think again. Appearing on The Howard Stern Show this week, Brady spoke about his departure from the Patriots, and said he’s never cared about what his legacy is, or will be, when it’s all said and done.

Per Brady:

“I never cared about legacy. I could give a s—- about (legacy). I never once when I was in high school did I think ‘Man, I can’t wait for what my football legacy looks like.’ That’s not me, that’s not my personality.”

As for why Brady decided to leave New England? Well, according to him, it was just time for a change.

“Why would I choose a different place? It’s because it was just time. I don’t know what to say other than that. I accomplished everything I could in two decades with an incredible organization, an incredible group of people, and that will never change. No one can ever take that away from me. No one can take those experiences or Super Bowl championships away from us.”

This line is probably the most telling: “I don’t know what to say other than that.” Again, Brady is human just like the rest of us. 20 years is a long time to be at one job. It was just time for a new challenge. Simple as that. Nobody can fault Brady for wanting to try something new, not even Patriots fans.

Tom Brady explains that missing OTAs with Patriots was due to his marriage, not Bill Belichick

Tom Brady has elaborated on why he missed OTAs with the Patriots for the first times in 2018 and 2019, and it wasn’t Bill Belichick.

New Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady spoke with Howard Stern in a wide-ranging conversation this week than ran from the problematic to the inane, but one moment that did stick out (to me anyway) was one in which he talked about why he missed OTAs with the Patriots a couple years back.

Brady missed offseason organized team activities in 2018 and 2019 for the first time in his Patriots career, which led to rampant speculation on sports talk radio that it was indicative of a souring relationship with Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.

Brady has long maintained that it wasn’t the case, though he never elaborated much. This week he went into much more detail with Stern, explaining that he missed the workouts due to a compromise he had made with his wife, Gisele Bundchen, who felt that he wasn’t pulling his weight with the family.

From the interview, and a transcription from CBS Sports:

“At different times, like any married couple, things need to be changed,” Brady said. “A couple of years ago … she didn’t feel like I was doing my part for the family. She felt like I would play football all season and she would take care of the house and then all of a sudden when the season ended I would be like, ‘Great, let’s get into all my other business activities. Let me get into my football training.’ And she is sitting there going, ‘Well, when are you going to do things for the house? When are you going to take the kids to school and do that?’

He went on: “So, two years ago, as it even related to football for me, I had to make a big transition in my life to say, I can’t do all the things I wanted to do for football like I used to. I gotta take care of things with my family because the family situation wasn’t great. She wasn’t satisfied with our marriage, so I needed to make change there.”

This is surprisingly raw and real from the normally very reserved and protective Brady.

And, for the record: Good on Gisele. It can’t be easy being married to a professional athlete during the season, especially one who is famously committed beyond what is normally expected even of professional athletes.

Tom Brady reflects on drinking and smoking weed as a teenager

Tom Brady drank and smoked weed in high school.

Since becoming one of the faces of the NFL, Tom Brady has had a picture-perfect public image. There have been very few stories of him doing anything that could be considered ‘wrong’ other than maybe the occasional display of poor dancing. In fact, most of the time he’s been discussed off the football field it’s been for his charitable or business endeavors.

As a teenager, however, Brady was just like many people around the world. He had his rebellious moments and partook in some activities that were illegal for someone his age.

Brady, in his interview with Howard Stern, mentioned how he drank and smoked marijuana as a teenager. Brady said, “I definitely had some fun in high school with partying and drinking and smoking weed on occasion.” However, Brady seemed to have a change of heart because he said he “felt like I was letting my dad down.”

While it’s known that Brady is able to chug a beer with the best of them, it’s evident that he didn’t follow down a partying route. That could’ve jeopardized the opportunity that he had in front of him to become a quarterback at Michigan and then eventually in the NFL.

WATCH: Tom Brady says he felt he’d leave Patriots before 2019 season started

Brady says he had an idea it was his last year with New England before last season even started.

The sports world watched Tom Brady’s every move this offseason — and every Instagram post — to see if the quarterback would stay with this team of 20 years or step into free agency.

And while Brady himself didn’t know for sure what he was going to do after the 2019 season, he said on “The Howard Stern Show” on Wednesday that he had a strong feeling that season would be his last with the New England Patriots.

“I don’t think there was a final, final decision until it happened,” Brady said. “But I would say I probably knew before the start of last season that it was my last year. I knew that it was just, our time, you know — our time was coming to an end.”

The 42-year-old agreed to a two-year, $50 million deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in March, leaving the only NFL team he’d suited up for in his two-decade pro career.

He told Stern that it was an emotional conversation with team owner Robert Kraft and head coach Bill Belichick when he made his decision final.

“I was crying,” Brady said. “I’m a very emotional person. … I have a deep caring for the people that I work with, and I wish (them) nothing but the best.”
