Jets’ guard headed to hospital after hit from Steelers’ LB

Jets’ offensive guard Xavier Newman took a scary hit from linebacker Patrick Queen in Week 7’s contest on Sunday Night Football. He was stretchered off the field and is being taken to the hospital.

Fans of both the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Jets held their breath when Jets offensive guard Xavier Newman lay motionless following a hit by linebacker Patrick Queen. The hit occurred during a runback after cornerback Beanie Bishop Jr.’s second interception of the night, as Queen aimed to clear a path for his teammate.

Initially, the hit appeared to be a routine blocking assignment, but things quickly took a turn for the worse when Newman remained motionless on the field and was eventually carted off on a stretcher.

According to reports, he was able to squeeze the athletic trainer’s hand and had movement in his limbs, providing a small relief after the terrifying incident. Newman is a pivotal member of the New York Jets’ offensive line, but his long-term health is far more important than one football game.  Fans from both teams now hope and pray for Newman’s quick recovery.

Taysom Hill released from hospital, traveled back to New Orleans

New Orleans Saints tight end Taysom Hill returned home after visiting a hospital on Sunday for evaluation on his chest injury:

Let’s focus on the good news. New Orleans Saints tight end Taysom Hill returned home from visiting a hospital on Sunday for evaluation on a chest injury he sustained in his team’s win over the Dallas Cowboys. And NewOrleans.Football’s Mike Triplett reports that Hill joined his teammates on their flight back, too, which suggests he avoided something truly serious like a collapsed lung.

That would line up with how Saints head coach Dennis Allen characterized his hospital visit after the game, saying that it was more a precautionary measure than some sort of emergency. Still, we’re short on details, and we may not get more clarity until the injury report is posted this Wednesday.

So stay tuned for more information as it becomes available. There’s a wide range of possibilities here — a fractured rib, torn pectoral muscle, or something else — but many chest injuries are easily diagnosable on the field or in the stadium’s X-ray room. Let’s try to limit speculation until details emerge. Hill is a critically important piece of the Saints offense even when he isn’t touching the football himself and it would be a big blow for him to miss much time.

Taysom Hill (chest) taken to Dallas hospital for further evaluation

Saints head coach Dennis Allen said Taysom Hill was taken to a hospital for further evaluation after suffering a chest injury in their win over the Cowboys:

One key member of the New Orleans Saints wasn’t celebrating in the locker room after they beat the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium. Saints head coach Dennis Allen said Taysom Hill was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation after suffering a chest injury in their win over the Cowboys.

“Taysom had a chest injury,” Allen said. “I think they took him for some extra evaluations, so he went to the hospital to be evaluated further. I think more precautionary, but we’ll see how that goes.”

Allen was short on details when pressed for clarity on Hill’s condition: “I just know chest injury, and they wanted to make sure that they went in and evaluated it further. Maybe some imaging.”

Hopefully it isn’t too serious, but it’s worth dialing in any time a player needs to visit the hospital with an injury. We’ll share an update on his status as soon as it becomes available.

Chiefs defensive lineman BJ Thompson in stable condition after going into cardiac arrest

#Chiefs DL BJ Thompson is in stable condition after going into cardiac arrest at practice | @EdEastonJr

Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman BJ Thompson was revealed as the player taken to the hospital before Thursday’s practice. The 25-year-old, after having a seizure and going into cardiac arrest, was taken to a nearby hospital by ambulance from the Chiefs practice facility.

“The Chiefs player who was taken to the hospital today was defensive end B.J. Thompson, a fifth-round draft pick last year, according to a source,” posted ESPN’s Adam Teicher on his X account.

Thompson was selected out of Stephen F. Austin in the fifth round of the 2023 draft by Kansas City. He played in the Week 18 finale against the Los Angeles Chargers as a rookie, collecting two tackles. Thompson started his college career at Baylor, playing two years, recording 18 tackles and five sacks before transferring in 2019. At 6-feet-6 and 243 pounds, he was a two-time first-team All-WAC in 2021 and 2022 while playing for the Lumberjacks.

The Chiefs canceled all team activities on Thursday in response to the medical emergency. The team is expected to resume OTA practice in front of media members on Friday.

Ryder Cup captain Steve Stricker recovering after spending weeks in hospital after historic win at Whistling Straits

“I was pretty sick, from what they tell me,” Stricker said.

Ryder Cup captain Steve Stricker is currently on a long road to recovery after spending weeks in the hospital following Team USA’s historic win at Whistling Straits late last year.

In an exclusive interview with Wisconsin Golf, Stricker detailed how his ailment started as a bad cough then became a condition that caused inflammation around his heart.

“I’m still on no activity. I’m still dealing with inflammation around the heart,” said Stricker. “That part is getting better, though, all the time. They took an MRI right before Christmas and it was still there, this inflammation, but it’s going down. I’ll have another MRI on the 20th (of January). If it’s gone, then I can start to do things.

“I’m down 25 pounds. I’m freshman-in-high school weight. I lost all my muscle. I look like an 85-year-old man, dude. My skin is hanging.”

After 11 days at UW Hospital, Stricker was discharged on the day before Thanksgiving. Three days later he was re-admitted.

“I kind of have a feeling that (the Ryder Cup) could have had a part in it,” Stricker said. “It’s a letdown, right, after that happens? And then your immune system is probably down. It probably played a role in it somehow.”

“My heart is in rhythm now. It was jumping in and out of rhythm from Thanksgiving all the way to Christmas Eve,” he explained. “So, knock on wood. And I’m on less medication. The inflammation number that they can find out with blood tests is saying that my inflammation is going down. And it must be, because I’m feeling better. I’m walking around a little bit. I’m starting to be a little bit more active and building a tolerance a little bit better. So, things are definitely better.”

Stricker’s cardiologist said it could be six months before he could return to competition, but the timetable for a return is unclear.

Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett still not 100% after leg injury

After bruising his lower leg Week 10 in San Franciso, Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett is on the mend for Monday night.

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett participated in the team’s Week 12 outing against the Philadelphia Eagles although he wasn’t fully recovered from the leg bruise he sustained in San Francisco two weeks before.

Lockett was injured late in the fourth quarter against the 49ers and remained in The Bay area for a couple of days while he received treatment on his leg.

Coach Pete Carroll is hoping he’ll be up to speed by this Monday night against the Vikings.

“Yeah, he feels really good now,” Carroll said Wednesday. “It maybe wasn’t 100%, even though he could run and play and all that. He just feels better now. I think it’s going to take all the way to Monday to really kind of put it in the rearview mirror, but he’s in good shape.

“He looked really good today.”

Lockett, the Seahawks and the Vikings had Thursday off for Thanksgiving but resume practice on Friday.

Tyler Lockett won’t practice Wednesday, expected to play in Week 12

The Seattle Seahawks expect Tyler Lockett to play on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles, but he will sit out Wednesday’s practice.

The Seattle Seahawks are expecting veteran receiver Tyler Lockett to be active on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagle, despite suffering a lower leg contusion against the San Francisco 49ers that required him to stay an extra two days in a Bay Area hospital.

However, Lockett is not expected to practice on Wednesday.

“He went through walk-through, he’s moving around,” coach Pete Carroll said on Wednesday. “He won’t practice today. We’re thinking he will do some work tomorrow.”

Lockett suffered the injury late in Seattle’s Monday night thriller against the 49ers in Week 10, forcing him to miss the entire overtime period. He was sent to a hospital shortly after the game and stayed there while the rest of the team went home, eventually flying back to Seattle on a private jet sent by team owner Jody Allen.

Despite the scary injury, Lockett was able to use the team’s bye week to recover, and he’s in much better shape now.

“He’s feeling way better,” Carroll continued. “He’s going to catch some balls after practice with Russ (Wilson) and start getting ready to go.”

Carroll believes Lockett will play on Sunday when the 8-2 Seahawks head to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles at 10 a.m. PT.
