Saints interim coach has one goal for the team’s home crowd

The Caesars Superdome hasn’t held the same magical homefield advantage as of late. Interim Saints head coach Darren Rizzi is on a mission to change that:

Darren Rizzi has a major goal as New Orleans Saints interim head coach that goes beyond wins and losses. He wants to restore a “domefield” advantage in New Orleans.

There was once a time where the Caesars Superdome was on the list of places opposing teams didn’t want to go. That magic had faded away. The Saints haven’t had a winning record at home since Drew Brees retired, going 2-5 at the Superdome in 2021 (not counting a “home” win in Jacksonville due to Hurricane Ida), 4-4 in 2022 (discounting their “home” loss in London), and 5-3 in 2023, with a 2-3 start to this season’s home slate. That’s a 13-15 home record altogether.

After knocking off the Atlanta Falcons, Rizzi declared, “We are going to get this dome back to where it used to be and that was just the start.” Part of restoring the aura has to do with winning games. The Saints hadn’t been doing that at home or on the road lately, so Rizzi was concerned if the fans were going to be bought in. He clearly underestimated how much the coaching change reinvigorated the fanbase.

That mistake won’t be made again. Rizzi complimented the home crowd by saying, “our fans were incredible today.” He credited the fans’ engagement for forcing the visiting Falcons into some errors, such as jumping offsides.

He knows this city wants a winner and the team wants to give them that just as badly. This is just one win, but that’s how every winning streak starts.

Bo Nix buys Castle Rock home for $4 million ahead of first season with Broncos

Ahead of his first season with the Broncos, Bo Nix bought Shane Vereen’s old home in Castle Rock for $4 million. Welcome to Colorado, Bo!

Welcome to Colorado, Bo Nix.

The Denver Broncos rookie quarterback and his wife, Izzy, have bought Shane Vereen’s old home in Castle Rock, according to Sara B. Hansen of BusinessDen.com.

Nix signed a four-year, $18.61 million contract with the Broncos earlier this year that included a $10.35 million signing bonus. He paid $4 million for the 6,551-square-foot home in The Village at Castle Pines.

The five-bedroom, seven-bathroom house was built in 2018 on a 1.14-acre lot. The home features a four-car garage with a golf cart bay.

Vereern, a former NFL running back, sold the home through Stacie Chadwick (LIV Sotheby’s International Realty) to Nix, who was represented by Rachel Sartin (Corken + Company Real Estate Group).

The Broncos drafted Nix in April after moving on from former quarterback Russell Wilson. Two years ago, Wilson paid $25 million for a mansion in Cherry Hills Village, a record sale in the Denver area. Wilson sold the four-bedroom, 12-bathroom home at a $3.5 million loss this spring.

Broncos fans will hope Nix has no reason to sell anytime soon.

Ex-Broncos QB Russell Wilson sells Denver-area home at $3.5 million loss

Russell Wilson paid a record price to purchase a Cherry Hills mansion in 2022, and he took a loss to sell it on his way out of town.

Although the Denver Broncos didn’t save any money by releasing ex-quarterback Russell Wilson, they may take a little satisfaction in that Wilson took at least one more loss on his way out of town.

Wilson sold his Cherry Hills home at a $3.5 million loss on March 20, according to Kourtney Geers of the Denver Business Journal. While the quarterback lost money, it was still a huge sale of $21.5 million, according to property records.

Wilson likely won’t lose any sleep over the sale given that he will have earned about $85 million from his two years with the Broncos.

Wilson bought his infamous 12-bathroom, four-bedroom, 20,060-square-foot house for a Denver-area record $25 million when he was brought in from Seattle to become the starting quarterback for the Broncos in 2022.

Wilson’s extravagant taste in real estate did not exactly translate to his play on the field. In his first season, it took until Week 15 for Wilson to throw for more than 12 touchdowns. Although his productivity spiked under head coach Sean Payton, Wilson was benched for the final two games of the 2023 season, then released this spring.

Wilson, now a clear-cut starter for the Pittsburgh Steelers, will still get a significant payday from Denver in 2024, but the QB’s time in Colorado has officially come to an end.

Wilson ends his Broncos tenure with fewer wins (11) than bathrooms (12) in the home he sold at a loss.

Broncos QB Russell Wilson listening to offers for Colorado home

Broncos QB Russell Wilson is listening to offers and “providing tours to prospective buyers” for his mansion in Cherry Hills Village.

Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson and his wife, Ciara, have been listening to offers and “providing tours to prospective buyers” for their mansion in Cherry Hills Village, according to Thomas Gounley of BusinessDen.com.

Wilson purchased the home for $25 million in 2022, setting a record for the most expensive residential property purchase in the Denver area. The four-bedroom, 12-bathroom home sits on a 5.34-acre lot and includes a pool and nine-car garage.

Wilson also owns a primary home in the San Diego area. That’s where he has lived during the offseason dating back to his time with the Seattle Seahawks.

The Broncos have insisted that Wilson staying with the team remains a possibility, but actions speak louder than words. Wilson listening to offers for his Colorado property seemingly confirms previous reports that the quarterback expects to be released by the team in March.

Wilson’s salary for the 2025 season will become guaranteed on March 17 if he’s still on the roster, so Denver will likely make a decision by that deadline. Speaking at the Super Bowl last week, Broncos coach Sean Payton said the team will make a decision on Wilson’s future “sooner than later.”

Wilson seems to think the decision has already been made.

LOOK: Alabama HC Nick Saban purchases new beachfront home in Florida

Nick Saban purchases a staggering $17.5 million beachfront home

Despite being 71 years old, Alabama head football coach [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] doesn’t plan on stepping down anytime soon. In fact, this offseason Saban doubled down on that by telling five-star recruit Ryan Williams that “he plans to coach until he croaks.” With seven national championships to his name and some historical recruiting classes as of late, Saban is at the top of his game and it doesn’t seem like he will be leaving.

Unfortunately, there will eventually be a day when Saban finally steps away, but he has made sure that when he does step into retirement, he will enjoy every minute of it. Saban is currently under contract with the University of Alabama through the 2029 season on an eight-year deal that will pay him $90 million throughout its entirety.

Recently, Coach Saban decided to treat himself to a brand new $17.5 million beachfront home in Jupiter, Florida. Jupiter is the home to many great golfers and has one of the greatest golf scenes in the world, Saban is a known avid lover of the sport. He will now be neighbors with guys like Tiger Woods, Justin Thomas and Gary Player, which I am sure helped finalize his decision on the new home.

The beachfront property is gorgeous as it features six bedrooms and five bathrooms at over 6,200 square feet. It will also come with floor-to-ceiling glass walls, a private garden, a dock, a boat lift and so much more.

Cheers to Nick Saban for living his best life!

3 quirks of Chiefs’ 2023 NFL schedule

Our @goldmctNFL explores three quirks of the #Chiefs’ 2023 schedule:

Each year the NFL’s schedule is wholly unique, which is part of what makes the reveal such a big spectacle.

For the Kansas City Chiefs, fans have become accustomed to them playing a tougher schedule with the team constantly finishing as its division winner. Still, there are always a few quirks each year that separate their schedule and make it unique from each year prior.

Here’s a quick look at three of those quirks from the Chiefs’ 2023 schedule:

Chiefs announce single-game tickets for 2023 NFL season go on sale Friday

With the 2023 NFL schedule reveal coming on Thursday, the #Chiefs have announced that single-game tickets will go on sale on Friday morning.

Kansas City Chiefs fans who aren’t season ticket holders will soon be able to purchase tickets for games at Arrowhead Stadium in 2023.

With the NFL’s 2023 schedule reveal slated for the evening of Thursday, May 11, the Chiefs will open single-game and group ticket sales for home games on Friday, May 13.

The general public can purchase tickets at www.chiefs.com beginning at 11:00 a.m. CT on Friday. As usual, there will be an exclusive online presale beginning Friday at 8:00 a.m. CT for Jackson County taxpayers. Season Ticket Members will also have an exclusive online presale beginning on Friday at 10 a.m. CT.

There will be no walk-up sales for tickets again this year, with the team going all-mobile for their tickets and parking passes. Also, if you plan to go to all of the Chiefs’ home games it pays to purchase your full-season parking passes in advance.

The complete 2023 schedule will be revealed on the team’s official TwitterInstagram and Facebook channels at 7:00 p.m. CT on Thursday. The entire 2023 NFL schedule will be announced on NFL Network and NFL.com simultaneously. Mitch Holthus and Matt McMullen will release a special edition of their “Defending the Kingdom” podcast with a breakdown of the entire 2023 Chiefs schedule.

We’ll be tracking all leaks and schedule reveals on Chiefs Wire leading up to the official announcement.

Sean Payton buys Denver-area home for $4.5 million

Broncos coach Sean Payton bought a Denver-area home for $4.5 million in March.

Sean Payton is looking to make Denver his home for the foreseeable future.

Payton recently locked up a home in the area for $4.5 million, according to a report from Sara B. Hansen of BusinessDen.com (via The Denver Post, subscription required).

Payton purchased a four-bedroom, six-bathroom house in the Belcaro neighborhood on March 6. The 6,000-square-foot home includes an oversized kitchen island, a fireplace in the primary suite and an elevator.

Payton apparently got a bit of a discount because the home was originally listed for $4.6 million.

Payton signed a five-year contract with the Broncos earlier this year, replacing Nathaniel Hackett, who was fired with two games remaining last season. Payton’s five-year deal is “in the neighborhood” of $18 million per season, according to Peter King of NBC Sports.

Even with a large contract, this was a big purchase for Payton. Fans in Denver will hope the Broncos return to their winning ways over the next five years with Payton. If they do, perhaps his tenure in Denver will go beyond five seasons.

Chiefs’ 2023 home and away opponents set

The #Chiefs’ opponents for the 2023 NFL season are now set. Here’s a look at who they’ll face next year:

With the 2022 regular season campaign coming to an end, the Kansas City Chiefs’ home and away opponents for the 2023 NFL season have been finalized.

The 2023 NFL schedule won’t officially be revealed until sometime in April, so we don’t have all the details on dates and times yet. However, now that the winners of various divisions have been determined, the Chiefs’ opponents for next year are officially set in stone.

Take a look at those opponents and our reaction down below:

Ex-Broncos OLB Von Miller sold his Colorado home last month

Von Miller sold his Colorado home for $3.7 million.

And just like that, Von Miller’s time as a Denver Bronco is truly now just a memory.

Miller sold his Foxfield home for $3.7 million last month, according to a report from The Denver Post.  The sprawling estate has 10 bathrooms, nine bedrooms, and a steam room, among other lavish amenities. Yes, Broncos fans, that’s right — even Miller has more bathrooms in his former house than current Denver quarterback Russell Wilson has touchdown passes in 2022!
Miller won the MVP award of Super Bowl 50 with the Broncos, and he was a part of the Los Angeles Rams’ Super Bowl squad in 2021.

In the 2021 offseason, Miller signed a six-year deal with the Buffalo Bills worth up to $120 million. Miller totaled 21 tackles, eight sacks and one forced fumble with the Bills this year before suffering a season-ending ACL injury.

The lucky buyer of Miller’s home, according to property records, is Oluwole Jolaoso. Miller’s home originally went to market with a $4.125 million price tag in May.
