Red River Rivalry: Five-star linebacker to choose between a visit at OU or Texas

Five-star linebacker to choose between a visit to Oklahoma or Texas this summer.

With the NCAA’s dead period being lifted in the month of June, there have been plenty of announcements for recruiting visits. The Oklahoma Sooners are gearing up for their annual ‘ChampU’ event where they will host plenty of top prospects from around the country.

One of the top players in the country is setting up his visits for the summer with the Oklahoma Sooners in the mix. The only issue being the date set will be on June 18th and he is choosing between the Sooners or their biggest rivals for that date, the Texas Longhorns.

Perkins is the No. 1 outside linebacker in the country and No. 12 overall prospect according to 247Sports composite rankings.

The Cy Park linebacker has set up visits to the Florida Gators, Southern California Trojans, and to the Texas A&M Aggies. Everything seems to be trending the way of the Aggies but don’t count out the Sooners who have seen their defense become one of the better units in all of college football.

Perkins would be a great addition to the Sooners top-five class so far in the process. They also have Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy of Lakeland, Florida, in the fold. The five-star defensive tackle has been trending to Norman for quite a while. The Sooners could complete the trio of top defenders if they also land five-star defensive end Omari Abor of Duncanville.

Five-Star linebacker set to take unofficial visit to Oklahoma

2022 five-star linebacker from Cypress, Texas set for an unofficial visit to Norman

After a year hiatus, high school recruits will be able to take visits once again after it appears that the NCAA’s dead period will come to an end. Since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, the dead period prevented any face-to-face contact between coaches and prospective recruits. With that coming to an end, there is no need for a Sooners Summit type deal as players will be able to visit schools once again.

A recent report showd that 2022 five-star linebacker Harold Perkins is lining up a visit to Oklahoma and Texas as well in June.

Freeman at it again as Notre Dame offers 5-Star Outside Linebacker

Notre Dame defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman spoke with Texas 5-Star outside linebacker Harold Perkins and then received an offer.

There is a different feel to the Marcus Freeman era, specifically on the recruiting trail. With the prestige of the Notre Dame program, it’s given the new defensive coordinator a lot more pizzaz on the recruiting trail. That showed this evening when Texas’ Harold Perkins spoke with Freeman and subsequently received an offer.

Perkins checks in as the 19th best player in the country and the best outside linebacker according to the 247Sports composite. Standing six-feet-three-inches and weighting 200-pounds, this offer is significant.

There seems to be a changing in philosophy regarding who the Irish give out offers. Freeman has been going after high level players like Perkins, certainly a difference from when Clark Lea was making the offers.

There obviously was a difference in talent levels when the Irish ended up losing their final two games of the season to Clemson and Alabama. Perkins has the ability to play for any school in the country. Now the Irish have put their offer into the mix and a changing of the guard has been made. Only good things can come from Freeman and Brian Kelly in their newfound recruiting philosophy.
