Nebraska Basketball makes final four schools for four-star center

A four-star basketball prospect has named Nebraska to its final four schools.

A four-star high school basketball prospect with ties to the Nebraska area has announced that the Huskers are in his final four schools. Gus Yalden has announced that he will decide his collegiate future next Tuesday. In the final four with Nebraska are the College of Charleston, Rutgers, and Wisconsin. The 6’8″ 240-pound center hails from the Appleton, Wisconsin area, and the Badgers are currently seen as the front runner.

Yalden’s ties to Nebraska stem from the fact that he lived in Kearney, Nebraska, for six-year, while his mom coached basketball at the University of Nebraska Kearney. He transferred to IMG Academy in Florida last summer from The Asheville School in Asheville. During his final season in North Carolina, Yalden averaged 17.4 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. His announcement will take place on Tuesday at 11:30 am CST on his official Instagram.

Four-star recruit Gus Yalden announced his final four programs on Tuesday, the coveted big man from North Carolina including three Big Ten programs in his final cutdown.

Rutgers and Wisconsin, long considered to be the frontrunners for Yalden, were among the forward’s final four. Rounding out the group is Nebraska and the College of Charleston.

The 6-foot-8 Yalden projects as a power forward at the collegiate level.

Last season for the Asheville School (Asheville, NC), Yalden averaged 17.4 points and 6.7 rebounds per game.

He moves well for a power forward, has a good dribble and has some nice range to his game. Yalden is capable of playing down low but can also pop up along the perimeter and hit from some distance.

He is a good rebounder and a tough defender.

Gus Yalden had an official visit to Rutgers on Saturday, the four-star big man taking in a football game and getting some time with men’s basketball head coach Steve Pikiell.

The power forward, ranked by Rivals as the No. 73 player in the nation, got a full tour of campus and the basketball facilities. This included being able to watch the team practice.

“The morning practice was great to watch; it was competitive and had lots of teachable moments,” Yalden told ‘Rutgers Wire’ after his visit.

“Crazy that this early in the season players already dialed in and efficient.”

Personable and outgoing, the class of 2023 prospect is enjoying the recruiting process.

One of the most coveted prospects in the nation, Yalden has a host of schools after him including offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Florida State, Iowa, Louisville, Maryland, Stanford, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Xavier among others.

The trip was an opportunity to see the campus, connect with the coaching staff and players and see if the Scarlet Knights were a good fit for him.

He had an opportunity to talk with Pikiell one-on-one during the visit. The message came across loud and clear.

“Pretty simple he just said he wanted to coach me and felt like it would be great for me on and off the court. Coach Pikiell has had an impressive basketball journey…his players and the Rutgers community seem to really embrace him,” Yalden said.

“Not going to lie I’m a little surprised how much I really truly enjoyed my official visit at Rutgers… just can’t imagine making this decision without being able to get on campus.”

Yalden said he hopes to continue his official visits with Nebraska and Wisconsin next on his agenda. He also hopes to take some other programs in on unofficial visits.

After his visit, Yalden wants to come up for one more visit to check a gameday experience at Rutgers.

Rutgers basketball recruit Gus Yalden previews October visit, talks Scarlet Knights interest

Rutgers basketball recruit Gus Yalden discusses his legitimate interest in the program and talks October visit.

Gus Yalden is getting ready for a visit to Rutgers to check in on the men’s basketball program. The four-star big man out of IMG Academy (Bradenton, FL) is emerging as a priority recruit for Scarlet Knights head coach Steve Pikiell.

Yalden is set to visit Rutgers the first weekend of October, per Rivals affiliate site The Knight Report.

The 6-foot-8, 240 pounds power forward is the No. 73 player in the nation according to Rivals.com. He is a member of the class of 2023. He is seriously checking out the basketball program and seems to be feeling the love from Rutgers, especially as he is consistently being recruited following a foot injury late this past season.

“I’m just looking forward to spending time with the team and getting to know the players, spending time with the coaches and actually seeing students on the campus… really just dive into the culture of what makes Rutgers a special place,” Yalden told ‘Rutgers Wire’ this week.

“Coming off an injury this summer and not being 100 percent and then not being able to play in front of coaches this fall – you really learn quickly which coaches are all in and have made you a priority. So in my book, if I’m a priority to them [then] they are definitely a priority for me and my future.”

Yalden said that the College of Charleston, Rutgers, Nebraska, Wake Forest, Ohio, and Wisconsin have been most interested in his recruitment. He currently holds offers from the aforementioned programs as well as Arkansas, Auburn, Florida State, Iowa, Louisville, Stanford, and West Virginia among others.

“A coach that knows players strengths and finds ways within their style of play to highlight those skills but at the same time refuses to settle with what players can do and instead pushes the team to achieve what they never knew they could do or be taught to do,” Yalden said.

“Academically looking for a school that supports their student-athletes, offers a strong community and a program that has pride in their legacy both in the classroom and on the court.”

Michigan State is reportedly the latest big-time program to show interest in 2023 four-star center Gus Yalden of Appletown, Wisc.

Jake Weingarten of Stockrisers reported on Tuesday that Michigan State is one of the newest schools to reach out to Yalden. Iowa, Gonzaga, Arkansas, Rutgers, Arizona, Notre Dame and Virginia have all also reached out to Yalden in the last 24 hours, according to Weingarten.

Yalden is ranked as the No. 32 overall prospect and No. 3 center in the 2023 class in 247Sports’ composite rankings. Yalden plays for the IMG Academy in Florida .

Yalden — who is listed at 6-foot-8 and 240 pounds — has already received scholarship offers from numerous power programs, including Illinois, Wisconsin, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida State, Iowa, Missouri, Oklahoma, Rutgers, Nebraska and West Virginia. The Spartans, however, have yet to extend an offer to Yalden — but that could come soon enough.

A top 2023 Wisconsin basketball target schedules a visit to Madison

A top Wisconsin target schedules his visit

Wisconsin basketball is already looking towards their 2023 class, and an early top target has emerged from within the Badger State. Consensus four-star recruit Gus Yalden is a versatile 2023 center that has the Badgers, and many other schools, intrigued.

According to Stockrisers.com, Yalden is set to take four unofficial visits in the month of June, with Wisconsin being one of them:

Yalden is an Appleton, Wisconsin native who is currently playing at IMG Academy in Florida. IMG Academy is a noted high school basketball powerhouse, recently producing a pair of Badgers in D’Mitrik Trice and Aleem Ford.

Yalden is a 6-foot-8 big who can do a little bit of everything. He isn’t afraid to take the ball coast-to-coast in transition, splash a jumper, or play with his back to the basket. His passing is exceptional for a player of his size, making it easy to see why the Wisconsin native would fit in as a Badger.

2023 PF Gus Yalden ‘flattered’ by Wisconsin’s rare early offer

The Badgers make an early play for a 2023 PF

Wisconsin basketball did something on Friday that they very rarely do in offering a 2023 prospect in July of 2020. The Badgers have taken a slower, methodical approach to recruiting in the Greg Gard era, and that approach has paid off in 2020 and 2021 with a number of four-star prospects. Any norms were thrown out the window for 2023 PF Gus Yalden on Friday, as he became the first Badger offer in the class of 2023.

Yalden is a Wisconsin native who moved to North Carolina to play his high school basketball, and he has been blowing up on the recruiting trail this summer. Maryland, Florida State, Iowa, Indiana and other high major programs have offered early, and Wisconsin felt the need to jump in at this stage in order to try and land one of the most skilled bigs in the 2023 class. Even Yalden himself was somewhat shocked that the Badgers went against their usual playbook and offered this week during a Zoom call with Head Coach Greg Gard.

“The Zoom call was awesome and really special,” Yalden told BadgersWire. “I mean it’s not like they give [offers] out to players at this stage of development very often so I’m super flattered and kind of in shock, but so excited.”

What type of player would make Wisconsin pull the trigger this early? Here is how Yalden describes himself: “I just love the game and I hope it shows when people watch me play. I’m competitive and hate to lose! I am an inside out big and I can also push it up the floor off a rebound because I can handle and see the floor. Also, I am going to hit a guy when he is open for that easy bucket.”

He also has had a fantastic start to the summer with Wisconsin Playground Club on the AAU circuit, which has only added to the long list of teams vying for his services at the next level. The 6-8, versatile big could be a major piece for Wisconsin as they look to build the 2023 class. Offering this early should tell Badger fans and Yalden that he is a priority for Greg Gard and the Badgers staff.

Wisconsin basketball makes their first known offer in the class of 2023

The Badgers offer a Wisconsin native in 2023

Wisconsin basketball is looking towards the future this week with a series of offers to rising prospects around the nation. The Badgers made their first splash into the 2023 market by offering 6-10 power forward Gus Yalden.

Yalden, who plays for Asheville School in North Carolina, but is a Wisconsin native, has seen a ton of interest from top programs across the country. Currently, he holds offers from Maryland, Florida State, Utah, Rutgers, Nebraska and more. He also had an impressive showing at the recent Wisconsin Prep Hoops Hard Work Kickoff playing for Wisconsin Playground Warriors.
