New list projects Nebraska and the Big Ten’s Bowl Games

Projections show a former Husker taking on his former team this postseason!

A new list is projecting bowl games for the 2022 season, so now seems like a good time to look and see where the Cornhuskers and its fellow Big Ten schools will be headed for the postseason. College Football News has worked hard to break down every bowl and then project the matchups for all 43 bowl game schedules. Nebraska is projected to make the postseason this year which would be a first under Head Coach Scott Frost and the first bowl game for the program since the 2016 Music City Bowl.

I’m not going to spoil the selected opponent for Nebraska other than saying that I’m all about the matchup. Of course, a bowl game alone would be excellent, but to play this team (one the Huskers have a history with) and this former Husker (I’m pretty sure you’ve put two and two together) would be an added cherry on top after a long postseason break for the Cornhuskers.

Take a look below to see where Nebraska and the rest of the Big Ten are projected.

Full 2022-23 Big Ten bowl game and College Football Playoff schedule

Here is the entire Big Ten bowl schedule for the 2022 season.

The Big Ten officially confirmed a good number of kickoff times for throughout the duration of the 2022 college football season. Nestled in the release was a reminder about the Big Ten’s bowl lineup for the upcoming season that includes eight direct bowl tie-ins and the possibility of more bowl spots for the conference if things go well this season.

The Big Ten will take part in three New Years Day bowl games, which due to the NFL schedule will actually take place on January 2. The crown jewel of the Big Ten’s bowl lineup, of course, is the Rose Bowl Game, which remains in its traditional timeslot while the Sugar Bowl was forced to move to a noon kickoff to avoid a scheduling conflict with the NFL’s Monday Night Football programming. Yes, the Rose Bowl will serve as a leading for Monday Night Football to help ring in 2023.

The Big Ten will remain a part of the new year tradition with spots in the Tampa Bay Bowl and the Citrus Bowl in addition to the Rose Bowl.

Each of the Big Ten’s bowl games will be played after Christmas, although the possibility of a surplus of bowl teams could allow for a Big Ten team to play prior to Christmas if a bowl is in need of filling a spot.

The College Football Playoff is also once again playing its national semifinal games on New Year’s Eve, on Saturday, Dec. 31. This year’s playoff games will be held in the Peach Bowl and the Fiesta Bowl. The College Football Playoff national championship game is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 9 to bring a close to another season of college football.

Which of these bowl games will Penn State be playing in? We’ll have to wait and see. For now, here is the full Big Ten bowl lineup, plus the playoff schedule.

A 6-foot-9, 380-pound touchdown for Minnesota’s Daniel Faalele

The Minnesota Golden Gophers got a huge touchdown in their bowl game

Minnesota got on the board first in a big way — and we mean a big way — against West Virginia in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl on Tuesday

Daniel Faalele is a 6-foot-9, 380-pound left tackle from Melbourne, Australia. In case you were wondering it is 9,395 miles from Minnesota to Melbourne.

However, in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl he lined up at fullback and blasted through the Mountaineers for a touchdown.

It would seem as if Faalele has a future on Sundays if honors mean anything anymore:

HONORS:
All-Big Ten First Team (2021, coaches)
All-Big Ten Third Team (2021, media)

For some background on Faalele went from Down Under to the goal line:

HIGH SCHOOL: Attended IMG Academy in Brandenton, Fla. • wore No. 78 for the Ascenders • helped IMG Academy to an undefeated season in 2017, which was his first season of playing competitive football • anchored an offense that averaged 27.8 points and 177 rushing yards per game • competed in the 2018 Under Armour All-America Game • was at IMG Academy in 2016, but only practiced with the team as he became acclimated to the sport

Minnesota vs West Virginia Guaranteed Rate Bowl Preview

You’ll have to forgive Minnesota if it feels a tad bit snubbed. There’s hardly anything wrong with Phoenix in December – especially if your school has tunnels so students don’t have to walk through the cold – but the Gopher team that finished second in the Big Ten East got a lesser bowl slot than Wisconsin and a much weaker draw than a 7-5 Penn State team that’s off to the Outback.

Minnesota – winner of four straight bowl games and the last two under PJ Fleck – will show up big anyway. Literally. It’s a bruising team with a massive offensive line that spent the season pounding away for a series of backs – the Gophers had big injury problems at running back – to go along with a defense that’s been great against the run and allowed just 18 points per game.

West Virginia had to win its last two games to get eligible just to be here, and it has a tough enough team to make the most of the chance.

The run defense is aggressive and strong, and the offense is outstanding at controlling the clock and the tempo. There might not be a whole lot of big plays coming from the attack, but the Mountaineers will be more than happy to grind this out with the Gophers.

Full Big Ten bowl schedule for 2021-22: Every bowl game with a Big Ten team, when it will be played, and how to watch

The college football bowl season is here, and nine teams from the Big Ten will take part in this year’s postseason fun. For the first time, the Michigan Wolverines will take part in the College Football Playoff after winning the Big Ten championship for the first time in the Big Ten championship game era of the conference. Two other Big Ten schools will also be playing in a New Years Six bowl game with Ohio State heading out west to take on Pac-12 champion Utah in the Rose Bowl and Michigan State facing ACC champion Pittsburgh in this year’s Peach Bowl.

Penn State and Iowa will also fill a spot in a New Years Day bowl game on the first day of 2022. The Nittany Lions will face Arkansas for the first time when they play in the Outback Bowl. Iowa will face Kentucky in the Citrus Bowl.

The bowl fun will begin the week after Christmas with five Big Ten schools playing in bowl games that will lead up to Michigan’s appearance in the College Football semifinal against Georgia on New Year’s Eve.

Rutgers football to go bowling? Latest projection has Scarlet Knights against Big XII program

At 3-2, Rutgers football is projected to make a bowl game in late December according to one writer.

[mm-video type=playlist id=01fc3gzhz7qrm49z6q player_id=none image=https://rutgerswire.usatoday.com/wp-content/plugins/mm-video/images/playlist-icon.png]

There has been a fair amount of doom and gloom following a tough loss for Rutgers football this past weekend to Ohio State. But for those outside the Scarlet Knights bubble, the program is clearly on the rebuild.

Not only does ESPN FPI have Rutgers as getting six wins (if not seven) in their latest projection update, but Phil Harrison of USA TODAY Sports Media Group’s ‘Buckeyes Wire’ thinks Rutgers is heading to a bowl game.

And in a bit of an ironic twist, Harrison has Rutgers going back to where it all began.

Harrison’s choice for Rutgers is the Guaranteed Rate Bowl. The December 28 game would be against Texas Tech at Chase Field in Phoenix, AZ.

The choice is an intriguing one for Rutgers since the program’s first bowl game under Schiano (and just second overall in their history) was the then Insight Bowl at Chase Field in 2005. Rutgers narrowly lost that game 45-40 but the bowl trip set them up for a 2006 season that remains the highwater mark in Scarlet Knights history.

This will be the first season featuring the bowl game’s tie-in with the Big Ten. Last season’s game was canceled due to COVID-19.

In 2019, then known as the Cheez-It Bowl, saw No. 24 Air Force beat Washington 31-21.

Rutgers hasn’t made a bowl game since 2014 when they beat North Carolina in the Quick Lane Bowl.

So far this season, Rutgers is 3-2. After beating West Virginia this past weekend, Texas Tech is 4-1.

Will MSU be bowling this year? Assessing where Spartans could end up

Check out the four possibilities where I could see Michigan State football land this bowl season.

In a normal season, we would know by now where (or if) Michigan State football would be bowling this holiday season. However, this year we won’t have that answer for a few more weeks so we still have time to speculate where the Spartans could be bowling this year.

MSU is 2-4 on the season with two games still left on the schedule so reaching a .500 record is still in play. Again, in a normal year that would mean MSU would need to win out to qualify for a bowl, but the normal restrictions are not in place this year. So regardless of the next two week’s results, MSU is able to go bowling this year — whether they are selected or not is what we need to determine.

Erick Smith of USA TODAY currently has the Spartans not listed in his latest bowl projections — which are released every Tuesday. But that doesn’t mean MSU is dead in the water when it comes to making a bowl game. At least, not at this point in time.

Here are the four possibilities where I could see MSU land this bowl season:

Cactus Bowl renamed, only Big Ten and Big 12 programs eligible

Texas has been widely projected to compete in this particular bowl game after suffering back-to-back conference losses to unranked teams.

Since 1989, the Cactus Bowl has been an annual college football bowl game that takes place in the state of Arizona. Continue reading “Cactus Bowl renamed, only Big Ten and Big 12 programs eligible”
