North Dakota State MBB transfer Grant Nelson expected to commit to Alabama

North Dakota State power forward transfer Grant Nelson is expected to land with Alabama, per Joe Tipton of On3.

The Alabama basketball team received a huge boost as North Dakota State transfer Grant Nelson is expected to announce that he will be committing to the Crimson Tide over Arkansas. Nelson took official visits to both Tuscaloosa and Fayetteville before making his decision.

Nelson spent three seasons playing for the Bison. As a freshman, Nelson played in 27 games while making five starts. He averaged 6.3 points per game and 3.7 rebounds per game.

During his sophomore season, Nelson averaged 11.6 points per game and 4.9 rebounds per game. He started in 21 of the 29 games that he played in.

As a junior, Nelson increased his NBA draft stock after averaging 17.9 points per game, 9.3 rebounds per game, and 1.7 blocks per game.

Following the season, Nelson declared for the 2023 NBA Draft while also entering the transfer portal. After receiving feedback, Nelson elected to forgo the draft and explore his options in the transfer portal.

His expected commitment to the Crimson Tide means a great deal given the fact that two of Alabama’s starters in the front court are leaving in Noah Clowney and Charles Bediako. Interestingly enough, Nelson’s style of play is eerily similar to that of Clowney.

Nelson can play any position on the floor as could Clowney. Nelson stands at 6-foot-11, 235 pounds. Nelson can also protect the rim, rebound, and has proven to shoot fairly well from distance.

The expectation is that Nelson be a day-one starter at either power forward or center next season. His size and ability should make him one of the best frontcourt players in the SEC if not the entire country next season.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the Alabama basketball program and its involvement in the transfer portal.

Arkansas basketball: Top transfer Grant Nelson completes visit to Fayetteville

Arkansas basketball has officially wrapped up their official visit with the No. 1 transfer recruit in the country.

[autotag]Eric Musselman[/autotag] has one roster spot remaining for next season, and he’s swinging for the fences to fill it.

[autotag]Grant Nelson[/autotag], the former North Dakota State big man and No. 1 rated transfer prospect in the country, has officially completed his two-day visit to Fayetteville. Nelson arrived on campus Thursday afternoon to begin his official visit before leaving Friday evening.

The 6-foot-11 forward spent Tuesday and Wednesday in Tuscaloosa visiting with Nate Oats and Alabama. He was originally scheduled to take a visit to Baylor on Monday but cancelled his visit late Sunday evening. With Baylor’s visit cancelled, it’s widely believed that Nelson is only considering Arkansas and Alabama.

Nelson averaged 17.9 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.7 blocks, 52.1 FG% and 26.9 3PT% in 30.6 minutes for the Bison last season. Arkansas got an up-close look at Nelson and North Dakota State last year when they visited Fayetteville on Nov. 7. Arkansas won comfortably, 76-58, while Nelson recorded 17 points, 6 rebounds and one block in 21 minutes.

A decision is expected sooner rather than later, but there is no set time for an official announcement.

Alabama MBB reaches out to Creighton transfer Arthur Kaluma

After withdrawing from the 2023 NBA draft, Creighton transfer Arthur Kaluma has already received interest from Alabama among other programs.

The Alabama coaching staff has reportedly reached out to Creighton transfer Arthur Kaluma. Kaluma entered his name into the transfer portal a few weeks ago while still maintaining his draft eligibility. On Wednesday, Kaluma withdrew his name from the NBA draft and will look to transfer to another school.

Kaluma will be one of the top available players in the portal. Several programs that have reached out to Kaluma are Kentucky, Texas, and Texas Tech.

Kaluma spent the past two seasons with the Bluejays. The native of Glendale, Arizona was a four-star recruit coming out of high school. He chose Creighton over other programs like UNLV, Kansas, and Arizona.

In two seasons in Omaha, Kaluma averaged 11.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game. He also shot 43.3% from the floor and 29.1% from distance.

With Alabama losing several key players in its frontcourt, the Tide will likely turn its attention to Kaluma. Kaluma would be a very viable option to play the three or four next season in Nate Oats’ system.

After next season, Kaluma will likely project as a late first-round pick or an early second-round pick.

His ability to knock down jumpers from the mid-range and rebound would make him a very valuable asset for the Tide next season.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the Alabama basketball program and its involvement in the transfer portal.

No. 1 transfer portal PF scheduled to visit with Alabama MBB

Grant Nelson, the top player in the NCAA transfer portal plans to visit with Nate Oats and the Tide!

Yesterday, North Dakota State’s power forward Grant Nelson withdrew his name from the NBA draft. However, he did enter the transfer portal at the beginning of May and will continue to look at his transfer options ahead of the 2023-2024 season.

Nelson is the top-ranked player in the portal and has no shortage of suitors. He was a first-team All-Summit selection this past season while averaging 17.9 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.7 blocks per game.

With the loss of Charles Bediako, Nelson would be the perfect player to fill in that missing role for the Crimson Tide. He already spent three years with the Bison, so he is entering the fourth year of eligibility and at 6’11, Nelson could play either the four or five as Alabama does lack front-court depth.

Fortunately, for Alabama fans, Nelson already plans to meet with Nate Oats and visit Alabama. The actual visit date has yet to be determined. Once a recruit gets onto campus and sees the freedom they will have in a Nate Oats system, it is hard to turn down the Tide.

Hank South of 247Sports first reported the news Nelson planning a visit to Tuscaloosa.

Grant Nelson to transfer from NDSU after testing pre-draft process

Nelson was considered a potential second-round pick but will ultimately return to college to improve his draft stock next year.

Junior Grant Nelson will reportedly withdraw from the 2023 NBA draft and transfer from North Dakota State University, according to Jeff Goodman of Stadium.

Nelson declared for the draft as an early entrant prospect while also entering the transfer portal. He was focused on the pre-draft process and was among the players invited to compete in the draft combine earlier this month in Chicago, Illinois.

The 6-foot-11 forward was considered a potential second-round pick but will return to college in order to improve his draft stock next year. He averaged 6.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists in two scrimmage games at the combine.

Nelson, who was named to the All-Summit League first team, averaged 17.9 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.7 blocks on 52.1% shooting from the field this past season. He led the conference in rebounding and field-goal percentage and was third in blocked shots (50).

He emerged as a tremendous scorer with the Bison. He can work from all over the court and has the ability to handle the ball in transition and get to the basket. He threw down a number of highlight-reel dunks given his burst and power in the paint.

Nelson has reportedly heard from several programs, including Arkansas, Gonzaga, Houston, Kentucky, Miami and UCF. The opportunity to transfer to a major conference should ensure his draft stock rises over the next season as he is expected to be the top target in the portal.

All-American Jaime Jaquez Jr. to attend Pacers’ first draft workout

Jaquez was a consensus second-team All-American after averaging 17.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.5 steals.

Former UCLA forward Jaime Jaquez Jr. will be among the prospects to attend a pre-draft workout with the Indiana Pacers on Friday, the team announced.

Jaquez was a consensus second-team All-American after averaging 17.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.5 steals on 48.1% shooting from the field. He was also recognized as the Pac-12 Player of the Year and was a semifinalist for the Naismith Player of the Year Trophy.

In addition to Jaquez, the Pacers also plan to host Kobe Brown (Missouri), Andre Jackson Jr. (UConn), Arthur Kaluma (Creighton), Liutauras Lelevicius (Zalgiris, Lithuania) and Grant Nelson (North Dakota State) on Friday.

It is their first pre-draft workout of the year.

The Pacers enter the draft lottery on Tuesday slotted seventh after finishing with a 35-47 record this season. They also have pick Nos. 26 and 29 in the first round and Nos. 50 and 55 in the second round.

The NBA draft will take place on June 22.

Alabama MBB reaches out to North Dakota State transfer Grant Nelson

The Alabama coaching staff recently reached out to North Dakota State transfer Grant Nelson. Nelson declared for the NBA Draft but is leaving the option to return to college available at this time.

The Alabama coaching staff has reportedly made contact with North Dakota State transfer Grant Nelson. Nelson is testing the NBA Draft waters but is keeping the option of returning to college on the table.

Nelson is one of the more popular names in the transfer portal. Since entering his name into the transfer portal on Tuesday, Nelson has heard from over over 15 schools. Several of the other programs that have reached out to him are Kansas, Gonzaga, Arkansas, Kentucky, Houston, and LSU.

In three seasons in Fargo, Nelson averaged 12.1 points per game, 6.0 rebounds per game, and 1.3 assists per game. He shot 50.8% from the field and 30.7% from beyond-the-arc.

His best season of his college career came in 2022-2023 when he averaged 17.9 points per game, 9.3 rebounds per game, and 2.1 assists per game. The most impressive statistic was the number of blocks he averaged per game — 1.7.

With Alabama losing Noah Clowney and Brandon Miller, I would not be surprised to see Nate Oats and the rest of the coaching staff go all-in for Nelson. Last season, he was selected to All-Summit First-Team. He is well-rounded and has all the tools to succeed at the power-five level. His list of suitors will continue to grow and I would fully anticipate Alabama continuing to recruit Nelson.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the Alabama basketball program as well as its involvement in the transfer portal.

NDSU star Grant Nelson is gaining a ton of attention in the transfer portal

Nelson was named to the All-Summit League first team after averaging 17.9 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.7 blocks.

North Dakota State junior Grant Nelson entered the college basketball transfer portal this week and is quickly emerging as one of the top recruits on the market.

Nelson, who was named to the All-Summit League first team, averaged 17.9 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.7 blocks on 52.1% shooting from the field in 30 games. He led the conference in rebounding and field-goal percentage and was third in blocked shots (50).

The 6-foot-11 forward emerged as a tremendous scorer with the Bison. He can work from all over the court and has the ability to handle the ball in transition and get to the basket. He threw down a number of highlight-reel dunks given his burst and power in the paint.

Since entering the portal, Nelson has been heavily recruited.

Nelson has reportedly heard from several programs, including Arkansas, Gonzaga, Houston, Kentucky, Miami and UCF. He also recently declared for the 2023 NBA draft and was invited to participate in the combine May 15-21 in Chicago, Illinois.

He is considered by some to be a potential second-round pick this year. He will have the opportunity to improve his stock this month, and will likely weigh his decision to stay in the draft or return to college after participating in the combine.

After bursting onto the scene with the Bison, Nelson is looking to either build on that success in college or ride his successful campaign to the next level. Either way, he has plenty of options.

NBA draft combine 2023: A complete tracker of player invitations

Rookie Wire took a look at those prospects that have earned invitations to compete in the NBA draft combine and G League Elite Camp.

The NBA pre-draft process is in full swing as prospects work toward achieving the ultimate goal of hearing their names called by Commissioner Adam Silver on June 22.

Reports are beginning to surface of prospects receiving invitations to compete in the draft combine on May 15-21 in Chicago, Illinois. Each year, teams submit a list of players they would like to see invited, typically those with the highest odds of getting drafted.

The event features 5-on-5 games, strength and agility testing, shooting drills, measurements and other related on-court exercises. Prospects have the opportunity to improve their draft stock in a competitive environment against their peers.

Last year, 76 players were announced as participants in the event.

The G League Elite Camp will take place in Chicago on May 13-14 with players competing in front of NBA and G League scouts, coaches and front-office executives. The top performers will also be invited to perform in the draft combine.

The official list of participants for both events has yet to be unveiled.

Those underclassmen that filed as early entry candidates will also have the chance to interview with teams and gain feedback on their draft positioning. The information will be helpful in forming their decisions on staying in the draft or returning to school before the May 31 deadline.

Rookie Wire took a look at those prospects that have reportedly earned invitations to compete in the combine and G League Elite Camp. The list will be updated as more names emerge.
