With Drakkar Klose out, Mark Madsen meets Grant Dawson at UFC Fight Night 214 on Nov. 5

After his scrapped bout at UFC Fight Night 213, Mark Madsen has been booked a week later.

After his scrapped bout at UFC Fight Night 213, [autotag]Mark Madsen[/autotag] has been booked a week later.

Madsen (12-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC) was scheduled to face Drakkar Klose (13-2-1 MMA, 7-2 UFC) on Saturday’s event at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, but the fight was canceled after Klose injured his ACL.

Instead, Madsen will now take on [autotag]Grant Dawson[/autotag] (18-1-1 MMA, 6-0-1 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 214 on Nov. 5, which also takes place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. MMA Junkie confirmed the booking after an initial report from Combate.

Unbeaten as a professional, Madsen is coming off a unanimous decision win over Vinc Pichel at UFC 273 in April. Prior to that, the Olympic silver medalist wrestler edged out veteran Clay Guida at UFC on ESPN 29 last August.

After battling Ricky Glenn to a majority draw last October, Dawson scored a third-round submission of Jared Gordon at UFC on ESPN 35 in April. The 28-year-old, who’s yet to lose in the octagon, recently made a permanent move to American Top Team.

With the addition, the UFC Fight Night 214 lineup now includes:

  • Marina Rodriguez vs. Amanda Lemos
  • Neil Magny vs. Daniel Rodriguez
  • Jailton Almeida vs. Maxim Grishin
  • Mario Bautista vs. Benito Lopez
  • Nate Maness vs. Tagir Ulanbekov
  • Ramona Pascual vs. Tamires Vidal
  • Jinh Yu Frey vs. Polyana Viana
  • Johnny Munoz vs. Liudvik Sholinian
  • Carlos Candelario vs. Jake Hadley
  • Miranda Maverick vs. Shanna Young
  • Josh Parisian vs. Chase Sherman
  • Darrick Minner vs. Shayilan Nuerdanbieke

UFC on ESPN 35 video: Grant Dawson becomes first to submit Jared Gordon, demands respect

Grant Dawson improved to 18-1-1 in MMA competition with a submission of Jared Gordon at UFC on ESPN 35.

[autotag]Grant Dawson[/autotag] wanted to deliver a strong performance at UFC on ESPN 35 after switching gyms to American Top Team. He did exactly that by finishing [autotag]Jared Gordon[/autotag].

Dawson (18-1-1 MMA, 6-0-1 UFC) remained flawless inside the octagon during his career when he became the first to submit Gordon (18-5 MMA, 6-4 UFC) in MMA competition courtesy of a rear-naked choke in the third round of their lightweight bout at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

After taking Gordon’s back repeatedly throughout the fight, Dawson finally locked it in deep enough to force a tap with less than a minute remaining in the final round. Check out his handiwork below (via Twitter):

After extending his unbeaten streak, Dawson said he thinks he’s deserving of more attention at 155 pounds.

“A quick notice to everyone I’m fighting: That’s always going to be my game plan,” Dawson said in his post-fight interview with Michael Bisping. “The last time I lost a fight, Barrack Obama was president. I am the most under-appreciated lightweight in the UFC. Put some respect on my name.”

UFC Fight Night 196 results: Grant Dawson vs. Ricky Glenn ends in a majority draw

Grant Dawson and Ricky Glenn traded grappling positions en route to a majority draw in the UFC Fight Night 196 co-main event.

[autotag]Grant Dawson[/autotag] and [autotag]Ricky Glenn[/autotag] exchanged dominant grappling positions in the UFC Fight Night 196 co-main event, and in the end, the judges couldn’t pick a winner.

Dawson (17-1 MMA, 5-0-1 UFC) used an onslaught of takedowns and positional dominance to overwhelm Glenn (22-6-2 MMA, 4-3-1 UFC) for the first two rounds. The tables were turned in Round 3, as Glenn completely altered the momentum for a 10-8 round to make the final scores locked a majority draw at 29-28, 28-28, and 28-28.

The lightweight bout was the UFC Fight Night 196 co-main event at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. It streamed on ESPN+.

Dawson wasted no time implementing his game plan to start the fight. He got Glenn to the mat inside the first minute and started going to work with his grappling attacks. Dawson waited for Glenn to make a mistake and took the back, where he started to unload with strikes and try to sneak in a finishing choke. Glenn showed good defense, but he ended up being controlled for more than four minutes of the frame.

Grant denied Dawson’s initial entry to begin the second round, but Dawson stayed relentless in pursuit of the takedown and managed to get the position he wanted. Dawson worked from guard and side control, chipping away with short punches and waring Glenn down to secure another one-sided round in his favor.

There was no veering from the strategy on Dawson’s end going into Round 3. He shot for the takedown as soon as he saw the opportunity, but he was fatigued and a desperate Glenn managed to keep him away in the early minutes of the round. Glenn found his way into top position and tried to threaten with submissions and ground-and-pound. He nearly finished it with an anaconda choke late, and said he thought Dawson was out.

The judges felt Glenn’s work on the mat was enough to warrant a 10-8 in Round 3, making it a draw.

UFC Fight Night 196: Grant Dawson vs. Ricky Glenn odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 196 odds and lines between Grant Dawson vs. Ricky Glenn, with MMA picks, tips and predictions.

In a lightweight bout on the main card, Grant Dawson meets Ricky Glenn Saturday at UFC Fight Night 196 – also known as UFC Vegas 41 and UFC on ESPN+ 54 – at the UFC’s APEX Facility in Las Vegas. Below, we analyze the UFC Fight Night 196 Dawson vs. Glenn odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The card can be viewed on ESPN+ with the prelims at 1 p.m. ET and the main card at 4 p.m. ET.

Dawson takes the walk to the octagon with five straight victories since his UFC debut March 9, 2019, including a third-round KO/TKO over Leonardo Santos last time out March 20, 2021.

Glenn has alternated wins and losses in each of the past five fights, and he posted a first-round KO/TKO win over Joaquim Silva in just 37 seconds on The Korean Zombie-Ige card June 19.

He has had just the one finish in his last eight fights. All of the seven others have been decisions as he’s gone 4-3 when the judges were involved.

Dawson isn’t interested in getting the judges involved, picking up two submission wins and a KO/TKO victory in his last four fights with just one decision.

UFC Fight Night 196 Dawson vs. Glenn: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Records: Dawson (17-1-0) | Glenn (22-6-1)

Fight result (2-way line or money line)

Dawson (-550) is going to win this fight, and it is likely going to be a finish. However, you cannot risk more than five times your potential return, as betting on big favorites like that is a losing strategy over the long term.

Instead, consider betting either DAWSON BY KO/TKO (+255) and/or DAWSON BY SUBMISSION (+330). You can bet both of these props and still be ahead, as long as he doesn’t lose or win on points.

Over/Under (O/U)

NO (+105): WILL THE FIGHT GO THE DISTANCES? is a good bet, as I am looking for a Dawson finish. While Glenn has gone the distance in seven of his last eight bouts he hasn’t faced a dynamic fighter the likes of Dawson. Take advantage.

In addition, I like playing DAWSON TO WIN IN ROUND 2 (+470) and DAWSON TO WIN IN ROUND 3 (+700). Yes, you will lose one of these ends, even if he wins in Rounds 2-3, but you’ll still be quite a bit ahead.

The UFC stays home in Las Vegas this week with a key middleweight matchup atop the card – thought it won’t be at that weight class.

UFC Fight Night 196 takes place Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The card streams on ESPN+.

(Click here to open a PDF of the staff picks grid in a separate window.)

In the main event, [autotag]Paulo Costa[/autotag] (13-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) takes on [autotag]Marvin Vettori[/autotag] (17-4-1 MMA, 7-3-1 UFC) in a fight between the most recent two middleweight title challengers. They both lost to champion Israel Adesanya. But this fight won’t be at middleweight thanks to Costa’s failure to make weight. They’ll fight at 205 pounds after Costa came into fight week heavy and intially asked for a catchweight. Vettori is a -185 favorite at Tipico; the comeback on Costa is +140. Our 13 editors, writers, radio hosts and videographers have Vettori with a 9-4 picks lead.

In the co-feature, [autotag]Grant Dawson[/autotag] (17-1 MMA, 5-0 UFC) is the biggest favorite on the card at -420 in his lightweight fight against [autotag]Ricky Glenn[/autotag] (22-6-1 MMA, 4-3 UFC). He’s a near-unanimous pick from our staff members at 12-1.

Also on the main card, [autotag]Jessica-Rose Clark[/autotag] (10-6 MMA, 3-2 UFC) takes on [autotag]Joselyne Edwards[/autotag] (10-3 MMA, 1-1 UFC) in a women’s bantamweight bout. Clark is a -160 favorite, and she’s got a sizable 9-4 picks lead.

[autotag]Alex Caceres[/autotag] (18-12 MMA, 13-10 UFC) meets [autotag]Seungwoo Choi[/autotag] (10-3 MMA, 3-2 UFC) in a featherweight bout. Choi nearly is a 3-1 favorite, and he’s up big in the picks at 9-4.

It’s a close fight at the betting window between welterweights [autotag]Dwight Grant[/autotag] (11-3 MMA, 3-2 UFC) and [autotag]Francisco Trinaldo[/autotag] (26-8 MMA, 16-7 UFC). Trinaldo is just a -135 favorite, but he’s got a big 10-3 edge in the picks.

And to open the main card, [autotag]Nicolae Negumereanu[/autotag] (10-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) is a -230 favorite at light heavyweight against [autotag]Ike Villanueva[/autotag] (18-12 MMA, 1-3 UFC). He’s a near-unanimous pick at 12-1 from our staff members.

In the MMA Junkie reader consensus picks, Costa (57 percent), Dawson (87 percent), Clark (75 percent), Choic (50.1 percent), Trinaldo (63 percent) and Negumereanu (77 percent) are the choices.

Check out all the picks above.

Diego Ferreira injured, out of Oct. 2 bout against Grant Dawson

An exciting lightweight matchup at UFC Fight Night 193 is now off due to injury.

The injury bug has affected an exciting lightweight matchup.

[autotag]Diego Ferreira[/autotag] vs. [autotag]Grant Dawson[/autotag] was scheduled to take place on Oct. 2 at UFC Fight Night 193, however, due to an injury to Ferreira (17-4 MMA, 8-4 UFC), the bout will no longer take place on that date.

Multiple sources confirmed the injury with MMA Junkie, but it is unclear if Dawson (17-1 MMA, 5-0 UFC) will remain on the card or if the fight will be rebooked at a later time. The specifics of Ferreira’s injury were not revealed.

The booking would have served as Ferreira’s third bout of 2021, as he looked to get back to his winning ways after dropping two straight against Beneil Dariush and Gregor Gillespie. Prior to this year’s skid, Ferreira was on a six-fight win streak, capped off by a second-round submission over former champion Anthony Pettis.

On the other hand, Dawson has incredible momentum behind him as he is on an eight-fight win streak following his lone career loss in 2016. Since entering the UFC in 2019, Dawson has finished three of his five opponents during his undefeated run with the promotion, most recently dispatching Leonardo Santos via last-second, third-round knockout.

With this bout off the card, the updated UFC Fight Night 193 lineup includes:

  • Thiago Santos vs. Johnny Walker
  • Antonina Shevchenko vs. Casey O’Neill
  • Bethe Correia vs. Karol Rosa
  • Jared Gordon vs. Joe Solecki
  • Grant Dawson vs. Diego Ferreira
  • Sean Soriano vs. opponent TBA
  • Gaetano Pirrello vs. Douglas Silva de Andrade
  • Kyle Daukaus vs. Kevin Holland
  • Jamie Mullarkey vs. Devonte Smith
  • Macy Chiasson vs. Aspen Ladd
  • Johnny Eduardo vs. Alejandro Perez
  • Alexander Hernandez vs. Leonardo Santos
  • Misha Cirkunov vs. Krzysztof Jotko
  • Alex Oliveira vs. Niko Price

UFC books Diego Ferreira vs. Grant Dawson for Oct. 2 event

Grant Dawson will get an opportunity to crack the UFC’s top 15 lightweight rankings in just his second fight back at lightweight.

[autotag]Grant Dawson[/autotag] will get an opportunity to crack the UFC’s top 15 lightweight rankings in just his second fight back at lightweight.

Dawson (17-1 MMA, 5-0 UFC) meets [autotag]Diego Ferreira[/autotag] (17-4 MMA, 8-4 UFC) at UFC Fight Night on Oct. 2 at a location and venue to be announced.

Two people with knowledge of the targeted booking informed MMA Junkie of the matchup Thursday but asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement.

Dawson made a successful return to 155 pounds when he scored a “Performance of the Night” knockout over Leonardo Santos in March. With just one second remaining in the fight, Dawson unleashed brutal ground and pound to knock Santos out cold. Unbeaten in the UFC, the Glory MMA fighter has won his past eight in a row.

Ferreira will look to snap a two-fight losing skid when he meets the streaking Dawson. After winning six straight, including a submission of former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis, Ferreira has dropped back-to-back fights to Beneil Dariush, and most recently a stoppage loss to Gregor Gillespie in May. He earned the “Fight of the Night” honor in both contests.

With the addition, the Oct. 2 lineup includes:

  • Thiago Santos vs. Johnny Walker
  • Bethe Correia vs. Karol Rosa
  • Jared Gordon vs. Joe Solecki
  • Grant Dawson vs. Diego Ferreira
