Chris Godwin is enjoying the dog days of summer

Bucs WR Chris Godwin is spending some time chilling with his pup.

Bucs wide receiver Chris Godwin graciously gifted new quarterback Tom Brady his No. 12 jersey, opting to switch to No. 14.

The fourth-year receiver is coming off a career year in 2019, when he had 86 receptions for 1,333 yards and nine touchdowns, career highs in all three categories. Now with Brady as his QB, Godwin could see his stock rise even more in 2020, so Tampa Bay may want to sign him to an extension sooner rather than later.

While the Pro Bowl receiver is readying for the start of training camp, he’s enjoying his last few relaxing days at home with his fiancee and pup.

Take a look.

Godwin and his soon-to-be bride Mariah run the Team Godwin Foundation, dedicated to finding homes for pets in need.

Godwin also posted the below image today on Instagram, which earned a comment from former Bucs quarterback Jameis Winston, who is now with the Saints.

Pro Football Focus grades Chris Godwin as the best overall receiver of 2019

See what grade Pro Football Focus gave Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin for his breakout season.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin seemed poised for a breakout year entering the season. After all, in 2018 — Godwin’s second year in the league — he finished with 842 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. New head coach Bruce Arians even said last offseason that Godwin would be close a 100-catch guy.

Arians couldn’t have been more right.

Despite missing the final two weeks of the season with a hamstring injury, Godwin finished the year with career-highs across the board: 86 receptions, 1,333 yards and nine touchdowns. Godwin’s breakout season earned him Pro Bowl honors and Second-Team All-Pro honors. You have to imagine, too, that had he not been injured those final two weeks, Godwin would’ve had more than a fair chance of hitting 100 receptions.

Still, it seems the best is yet to come for Godwin. And, as Pro Football Focus notes, Godwin graded out as the best wide receiver in the NFL this season (90.7).

(via ESPN):

“Godwin was every bit the best receiver in football, despite missing the final two games with an injury. He still finished second in total yards after catch and third in yards after the catch per reception among qualified receivers, as he was the only receiver with over 100 targets to also average 6.5 YAC/reception. Separating him further from the rest of the league’s receivers, Godwin’s safe hands saw him drop just one of the 87 catchable passes thrown his way, and his drop rate of 1.1% stood as the second-best mark among 69 receivers who saw at least 35 targeted passes.”

Godwin flourished in his first year playing under Arians, and if quarterback Jameis Winston returns in 2020, the connection between Winston and Godwin will only be that much more effective on downfield attacks. Oh, and let’s not forget that the Bucs also have Mike Evans on their roster.

The 2020 regular season can’t get here soon enough for Bucs fans.

2020 NFL Pro Bowl: See which Bucs should be selected

Find out which Tampa Bay Buccaneers players should expect to find a spot on the Pro Bowl roster.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers may not be going to the postseason, but they still have a lot of pride on the line these last two games.

The Bucs are riding a four-game winning-streak thanks to Sunday’s big 38-17 win over the Detroit Lions in which quarterback Jameis Winston became the first player in NFL history to throw for 450 yards in back-to-back weeks. Winston is on pace to surpass 5,000 passing yards this season, which would make him just the eighth quarterback in NFL history to accomplish that feat.

Unfortunately, Winston also leads the league in interceptions with 24, so as strong as he’s been the past few weeks, a Pro Bowl selection might not be in the cards for the quarterback when the rosters are announced tonight.

So, which Buccaneers should expect to find themselves playing in the NFL’s All-Star game? These four seem like the strongest candidates.

Godwin and Evans have both had outstanding years, surpassing 1,000 receiving yards each. While a Pro Bowl Selection definitely seems in the cards for the pair, they’ve both suffered hamstring injuries the past two weeks that will likely keep them out for the remainder of the season. Not sure if they or the team would want them playing in the Pro Bowl.

Barrett seems like a virtual lock to get selected. The first-year Buccaneer has already tied Warren Sapp for the Bucs’ single-season sack record with 16.5, which also leads the NFL.

With guys like this on the roster, the Bucs are legitimate postseason contenders heading into 2020, assuming they retain Barrett.

Twitter reacts to Chris Godwin’s 71-yard touchdown

See how Twitter reacted to the long 71-yard touchdown reception by Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston, who threw four interceptions last week against the New Orleans Saints, threw one on the team’s opening drive today against the Atlanta Falcons, on the Bucs’ second play from scrimmage.

But, as has usually been the case with Winston, he followed up a bad play with a spectacular one, like this 71-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Chris Godwin on the Bucs’ very next drive.

For Godwin, it was his eighth touchdown reception of the season, a new career high for the third-year receiver out of Penn State. The 71 yards also puts him at 958 on the season, meaning he’s inching closer to the first 1,000-yard receiving season of his career.
