Clemson football 2025 commit has impressive showing at elite camp

Clemson commit Gideon Davidson stood out at the annual Rivals Five-Star Event in Jacksonville.

Highly touted running back and class of 2025 Clemson pledge Gideon Davidson drew praise at the recent 2024 Rivals Five-Star event in Jacksonville.

Listed as 6-foot, 193 pounds, Davidson committed to Clemson in June 2023 over offers from Auburn, Colorado and others. He is coming off an impressive junior year at Liberty Christian Academy in Lynchburg, Va., where he rushed for 2,716 yards and 43 touchdowns (per MaxPreps). Davidson averaged 12.9 yards per carry while leading his team to the Class 3A state championship.

In his profile of the annual camp, Rivals.com national recruiting analyst John Garcia Jr. suggested that it wouldn’t take long for Davidson to find playing time in a Tigers uniform.

Per Garcia Jr.:

“Officially, there was one Clemson commitment on hand for the event – and Gideon Davidson was among the better all-around backs in attendance, displaying his smooth footwork in drills and holding his own thereafter. One of the most productive prospects in America and the top-ranked prospect in Virginia, Davidson also has a college-ready frame so it may not take long to see him make an impact for Dabo Swinney and company.”

247Sports national recruiting analyst Brian Dohn echoed that sentiment in a previous scouting report on Davidson. Dohn said that he could see Davidson as an early contributor at a high-level program like Clemson and that Davidson had NFL potential.

Rivals has Davidson as a five-star recruit and the top running back in the state of Virginia (No. 60 overall nationally in the class of 2025). On3 ranks Davidson as the No. 3 running back in the nation. Both 247Sports and On3 list him as a four-star recruit.

Davidson was recruited to Clemson by Tigers running backs coach C.J. Spiller, who was recently chosen to be inducted into the school’s Ring of Honor.

This is the latest in a string of significant additions by Clemson. Since the start of June, they have also picked up commitments from Midlothian (Texas) five-star wide receiver Bryant Wesco and Jefferson (Ga.) five-star linebacker Sammy Brown, who are ranked No. 15 and 16 overall respectively in the class of 2024. Top 2025 running back includes Notre Dame in trimmed down list

The Irish have a good shot with one of the nations best 2025 backs

As a running back, there is a lot to like about potentially joining the [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] program.

They’d be running behind an offensive line that is annually considered one of the best in the county. The offensive philosophy revolves around a ground and pound game plan.

It should come as no surprise that 2025 Virginia running back [autotag]Gideon Davidson[/autotag] included Notre Dame in his top 10 list. The 6-foot and 193 pound back is rated as the 3rd best running back and 38th overall recruit by the 247Sports composite.

There is a June visit to South Bend lined up for Davidson, so there is a legit chance for the Irish as they battle for his signature.

Oregon lands among top schools for No. 1 RB in 2025 class

Oregon’s momentum in the 2024 class is seeping into the 2025 class, it appears.

The Oregon Ducks are among the hottest teams in the 2024 recruiting cycle right now, and it appears that some of that momentum is carrying over to the 2025 class as well.

On Friday, 4-star RB Gideon Davidson, the No. 1 ranked running back in the class of 2025, announced his top 10 schools, keeping the Ducks in the mix with the likes of Ohio State, Michigan, USC, and others.

While it’s still early in Davidson’s recruiting process and he has dozens of visits to go on before now and when he ultimately signs with a school, Oregon is in a good spot early on, to say the least.

Davidson is rated as the No. 19 overall player in the 2025 class, according to 247Sports. It’s fair to assume that as he continues to put highlights on tape, he will eventually rise to a 5-star recruit.

Michigan football makes top group for No. 1 2025 running back

Need to land this guy! #GoBlue

With Michigan football winning the Joe Moore Award in back-to-back seasons and the running backs flourishing, the maize and blue have been recruiting offensive linemen and running backs at a high level.

The Wolverines brought in four-star Cole Cabana and three-star Benjamin Hall in 2023. We didn’t see Cabana in the spring game, but Hall has the makings of being the real deal. Fast forward to 2024, and Michigan already has Jordan Marshall committed — a top running back in the class from Ohio.

While the 2024 class is still taking shape, the Wolverines are looking at the 2025 class as well.

The No. 1 running back, according to 247Sports, is Lynchburg (Virginia) Liberty Christian Academy Gideon Davidson. On Friday, he listed Michigan in his top 10 along with Clemson, Oregon, USC, Penn State, Ohio State, Colorado, Notre Dame, Tennessee and Iowa State.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Davidson is a four-star recruit and the 38th-ranked player nationally.

Here is Brian Dohn’s scouting report:

Has verified size with frame to continue to add mass. Has multi-sport profile with strong build. Speed markers include 10.69 in 100 meters and 20-7 long jump. Has two-way snaps as safety. Big production with 1,241 yards and 19 touchdowns while averaging more than 11 yards per carry as freshman. Pace of play popped during in-person evaluation. Patient runner with vision and knows how to set up blocks. Quick feet with stop-start ability. Accelerates well through the hole. Has speed to finish runs. Best suited to run between tackles. Body control to make subtle cuts at second level. Difficult to arm tackle. Shows cut-back ability. instinctual runner can make defenders miss in hole. Solid pass catcher who lines up wide. True between-the-tackles runner who has speed but is not asked to run outside of tackle box often. Has to continue to work on running with slightly lower pad level. Continued development as a pass catcher will make him more dynamic. Adding strength will make him more physical runner. Can be early contributor in high-level college program. Has NFL potential.

Michigan has two commits in the class of 2025.

2025 4-star RB puts Penn State in his top 10 list

Penn State makes top schools cut for 2025 four-star running back target.

While all eyes are on the burgeoning 2024 class that has jumped into the top 10 in 247Sports’ national rankings, recruiting work is already underway for the 2025 class.

There have already been two commitments for the class of 2025, one offensive tackle and one safety. This puts them at number four nationally and first in the Big Ten in the 247Sports early rankings. With these players going into their junior year of high school this fall, it’s going to be a long recruitment process for many of these prospects.

However, that doesn’t mean players aren’t committing to their favorite schools or cutting down their lists to focus on a smaller number of programs recruiting them.

On Friday, Gideon Davidson, one of the top running backs in the 2025 class, trimmed his list to 10 schools with Penn State making the list.

Other programs included are Ohio State, Michigan, Clemson, Oregon, Notre Dame, USC, Tennessee, Colorado and Iowa State.

Davidson is a 5’11” 185 pound running back from Virginia. On3 has him listed as the 57th best player in his class, but 247Sports has him as the number one running back in the country.

Virginia has historically been a recruiting hotbed for Penn State and could give them a leg up over the other schools on his list.

On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine had Liberty, Virginia and Virginia Tech as the three most likely to land Davidson, but those schools did not make his top 10. Prior to his announcement, Penn State was given a 5.6% chance to get the coveted running back.

When speaking with Hayes Fawcett of On3, he said, “How can any rb not be interested in Penn State? Coach Franklin has visited me twice and he is easy to connect with. Coach AP is from forest Virginia my home town. He is a legend here. Be pretty cool to play under him. Two rbs over 1k yards last year. Wow. And they are known for putting rb players in the league.”

Davidson has visited Penn State once with his solo visit coming back in 2021.

Notre Dame football offers 2025 Virginia athlete

The Irish go out East with their latest offer

As [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] is still getting ready to start their spring practice, evaluations of prospects are still happening and offers are being sent out.

The Irish coaching staff has made their decision on 2025 Virginia athlete [autotag]Gideon Davidson[/autotag], and it resulted in a scholarship offer. The three-sport athlete tweeted out Friday afternoon that after a conversation with head coach [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag], an offer was made.

Although Gideon is considered an athlete, most likely he will end up as a running back. His frame at 6-foot, 193 pounds and tagging of running back coach [autotag]Deland McCullough[/autotag] most likely confirm that offense is in the future for him.

Gideon is rated as a 4-star, top 8 running back in the country and 64th overall player nationally according to the 247Sports composite in the 2025 class.
