2024 California four-star wide receiver Aaron Butler commits to Texas

Texas improved its 2024 receiver class in a big way with Aaron Butler’s commitment on Friday night.

Four-star wide receiver Aaron Butler has committed to the Texas Longhorns. The California product and No. 122 player in the 247Sports composite rankings joined the Longhorns’ already strong 2024 class on Friday night.

The big time player from Calabasas (CA) is a huge get for the Texas coaching staff and another significant win for Longhorns wide receiver coach Chris Jackson.

247Sports national scouting analyst Greg Biggins gave the following scouting report of Butler.

“Butler is a dangerous two-way player who could end up at corner or receiver in college. … He’s physical player and has a lot of nastiness in his game. Whether he’s blocking or jamming a receiver, he’s looking to physically dominate his opponent and will often stay on his block until he puts him in the ground or off the field.

As a receiver, he has really impressed and is a threat to score every time he touches the football. He plays with a bit of a chip on his shoulder and has an edge in his game that reminds us a little of former LB Poly and current NE Patriot DB Jack Jones. He needs to keep his emotions in check but his upside is extremely high.”

What seems clear is that Texas likely won’t lack at receiver for a long while. The team’s 2024 blue chip receiver class now includes three blue chip wide receivers in five-star receiver Ryan Wingo and composite four-stars in Butler, Freddie Dubose and Parker Livingstone.

The Longhorns will look to continue to develop receiver like they have in head coach Steve Sarkisian’s three seasons in Austin.

Ready for Primetime: Colorado commit ends senior season early to focus on college football

Aaron Butler is expected to join the Colorado football program this spring.

For a handful of years, college football players have been forgoing bowl games in increasing numbers to get prepared for the NFL draft. Aaron Butler, a Colorado football commit, is cutting short his high school career so as to focus on his college one with head coach Deion Sanders.

A four-star athlete, Butler did not play last week for Calabasas High School (Calabasas, California). The Coyotes entered the weekend with a 2-3 record.

Butler is a consensus four-star player in the 2024 recruiting class. Both ESPN and 247Sports ranks him as a top 75 player in the nation.

According to Tarek Fattal of Sports Illustrated’s Fan Nation, Butler is still currently enrolled in high school but will not be playing any more games. According to Calabasas head coach Cary Harris, Butler “has informed our staff he’s stepping away from the team.”

His goal is to graduate early and enroll at Colorado this spring. He committed to the program in mid-May.

Capable of playing both sides of the ball, Butler likely gets a look first by Colorado as a wide receiver when he arrives this spring.

Sanders currently has Colorado at 3-1 (0-1 Pac 12) and exceeding many expectations in his first year in Boulder.

Colorado loses one 4-star athlete to LSU, adds another

Former Colorado commit Ju’Juan Johnson joins LSU’s class of 2024, while Aaron Butler picks the Buffaloes.

It’s been a whirlwind six months since Deion Sanders took over as the head coach at Colorado. His arrival has not only made Boulder a recruiting hotspot, but it also has shaken the NCAA to the core via the transfer portal.

This week the Buffaloes suffered some comeuppance by losing a four-star to the transfer portal.

Lafayette Christian Academy (La.) four-star athlete Ju’Juan Johnson committed to LSU with this video announcement on Monday.

Johnson (5-foot-11, 188 pounds) de-committed from Colorado last month.

Going by the 247Sports composite rankings, Johnson is No. 22 among athletes, No. 7 in Louisiana and No. 267 nationally in the class of 2024. LSU’s group of 15 hard commits now ranks No. 5 in the country in the cycle.

While losing Johnson was a tough beat, Colorado made up for it on Tuesday by getting a commitment from Calabasas (Calif.) four-star athlete Aaron Butler.

Butler (6-foot-0, 165 pounds) had previously been committed to USC. He also had offers from 30 other programs, including Alabama, Georgia and Colorado State.

Asked why he picked the Buffs, Butler gave On3 a litany of reasons, among them quality education and prepping for the next level.

“NFL prep – coverage IQ & route running abilities in a face-paced “pass heavy” Coach Lewis offense which seeks to make every coverage “wrong” increasing my chances of being +1,000 yard WR year over year.”

Butler ranks No. 7 among athletes, 12th overall in the state of California and No. 95 nationally. Meanwhile, Colorado’s class of 2024 now ranks No. 34 in the nation.

Four-star recruit Aaron Butler commits to Colorado via Deion Sanders’ Instagram Live

Four-star prospect Aaron Butler gave his commitment to Colorado in a rather memorable fashion

Colorado just picked up a big commitment in its 2024 class.

Four-star athlete Aaron Butler from Calabasas, California committed to the Buffs on Tuesday in a rather unconventional way, joining head coach Deion Sanders’ Instagram Live to make the announcement.

Butler’s pledge, which was confirmed by several other sources, makes him the top-rated commit in Colorado’s 2024 class. The 6-foot, 165-pound Butler is ranked as the No. 65 overall recruit, No. 5 athlete and the No. 9 recruit in California, according to 247Sports.

He had multiple offers on the table, most notably from Alabama and Oregon, and was previously committed to USC.

The times in Boulder have changed since the hiring of Sanders, and earning Butler’s commitment over the likes of current powers Alabama, Oregon and USC indeed confirms that.

Ducks now projected to land pair of top-100 players, rising QB in 2024 class

The Ducks seem to be as hot as any team on the recruiting trail at the moment.

If you hadn’t been paying attention over the past couple of weeks, it’s now become incredibly clear that the Oregon Ducks are among the nation’s hottest teams in the recruiting world right now.

The last seven days saw them pick up commitments from 4-star CB Aaron Flowers and 4-star DL Tionne Gray, as well as an in-state commitment from 3-star OL Trent Ferguson, moving them to well inside the top 10 rankings nationally. On top of that, a flurry of recruiting predictions has started to come in over the past couple of days, predicting that more high-end 4-star talent is on the way.

On Thursday, 247Sports Recruiting Director Steve Wiltfong put in a prediction that Oregon would be the landing spot for 4-star WR Dillon Gresham.

On Friday, Wiltfong and fellow 247Sports colleague Greg Biggins logged multiple predictions for the Ducks. Here’s more info on the players that Oregon is projected to land, and where that would leave them in the national rankings should it all come to fruition.

Four-star WR Aaron Butler on recent Colorado visit: ‘The energy and the vibe there was crazy’

Colorado has continued to make a strong impression on four-star WR Aaron Butler

You can add Aaron Butler to the long list of recruits who’ve been impressed by Colorado’s turnaround.

The four-star class of 2024 wide receiver out of Calabasas, California took a visit to Boulder earlier in March and although 247Sports still projects him to land at Georgia, there’s no reason to rule out the Buffs.

“The energy and the vibe there was crazy,” Butler told 247Sports’ Greg Biggins of his CU visit. “So much has changed now but I really had a good time, I loved it there.”

Butler, a former USC commit who included the Buffs in his top-five back in April, added that he spoke with offensive coordinator Sean Lewis, quarterback Shedeur Sanders and CB/WR Travis Hunter during his visit.

“I like Sean Lewis a lot, he’s a great OC and has a great reputation. They’re going to throw the ball around and he told me he really needs someone like me who can stretch the field and run after the catch. I talked with Shedeur (Sanders) too and he told me I could be the missing piece for them so I have real interest in them right now.”

Butler’s recruitment remains wide open with visits at Oregon and Georgia scheduled for April. He also plans on coming back to Boulder for the Buffs’ sold-out spring game on April 22, per Biggins.

The Buffs and head coach Deion Sanders are still looking for their first 2024 WR commitment, and kicking off that position group with Butler wouldn’t be a bad start.

Here are 10 recruiting stories from around the USA TODAY Sports College Wires network.

Alabama lands in top-five for 2024 CB Aaron Butler

2024 cornerback Aaron Butler recently listed Alabama as a finalist in his recruitment. He was offered by Alabama in April.

Aaron Butler, a 2024 cornerback prospect, released his top-five on Wednesday. He included Alabama as a finalist.

Butler plays for Calabasas High School in Calabasas, California. As a junior, he recorded 15 tackles and one interception. 247Sports’ Greg Biggins compared Butler to New England Patriots safety Jack Jones.

The expectation is that Butler will commit to the program of his choice in either April or May. His decision will precede visits to several schools that are finalists in his recruitment.

In a recent interview with Biggins, here is what Butler had to say about Alabama:

“I have a great connection with Holman Wiggins (WR coach). I’m building a relationship with him and he has also reached out to my parents and will text with them as well so they’re not just recruiting me but my whole family. Nick Saban is the GOAT and he actually recruited my dad (Robb Butler) when he was coaching at Michigan State. My dad ended up signing with Pitt but he liked coach Saban a lot and we still talk about that all the time. Alabama has had great success developing wide receivers and always has a really strong QB room as well.”

Colorado in top five for 2024 four-star athlete Aaron Butler

Former USC commit Aaron Butler has Colorado in his top five

The Colorado Buffaloes continue to be major a factor in the recruiting world. On the same day that the Buffs landed another transfer in USF WR Xavier Weaver, they also landed in the top five schools for a top 100 player in the class of 2024 on Wednesday.

Four-star athlete Aaron Butler has the Buffaloes in his final five, along with Alabama, Georgia, Oregon, and Washington, as On3’s Hayes Fawcett reported.

Butler admitted that head coach Deion Sanders is a big reason why he’s considering Colorado, which isn’t a surprise (h/t On3):

“Coach Prime, he wants dawgs imma dawg,” Butler told On3. “He’s one of the greatest players to ever play the game as I will be. I don’t think I need to say any more on that.”

On3 lists Butler as a cornerback and the Calabasas High School (California) product can do a lot of things well on the football field.

Butler was previously headed to USC before decommitting in January, and it’s worth mentioning that three Pac-12 schools are on his final list. If the Buffs land him, that could form a dangerous CB trio of Cormani McClain, Travis Hunter and Butler come 2024.

UCLA, LSU and Texas A&M were some of the programs that offered Butler but didn’t make his final cut, so the Buffs landing here is a terrific sign.

A year ago, it would have been a stunner to see Colorado listed with programs such as Georgia and Alabama, but the hiring of Coach Prime has this as a regular thing.
