San Francisco Giants at Pittsburgh Pirates odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s San Francisco Giants at Pittsburgh Pirates odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The San Francisco Giants (24-26) and Pittsburgh Pirates (23-27) wrap a 3-game series Thursday at PNC Park. First pitch is scheduled for 12:35 p.m. ET (MLB Network). Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Giants vs. Pirates odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Giants lead 3-2

The first 2 games of this series both went 10 innings with the Giants rallying for a 9-5 victory as +108 underdogs Wednesday, a day after the Pirates rallied for a 7-6 win as +119 dogs in Tuesday’s opener. Thanks to the late drama, the Over cashed in both games.

The Pirates are vying for a 2nd consecutive series win, something they haven’t done since winning the first 3 series of the season against the Miami Marlins, Washington Nationals and Baltimore Orioles from March 28-April 7.

The Over is 5-2 in the past 7 games for Pittsburgh, and this series has been in stark contrast to the 3-game set at Oracle Park from April 26-28, when these teams cashed the Under in all 3 outings.

The Giants have won 5 of the past 6 games, while cashing the Over at a 4-1 clip in the past 5 outings. The total has gone high in 9 of the past 13 games for San Francisco, too.

Giants at Pirates projected starters

RHP Mason Black vs. RHP Paul Skenes

Black (0-1, 7.71 ERA) makes his 4th career start. He has a 1.97 WHIP, 3.9 BB/9 and 6.2 K/9 in 11 2/3 innings.

  • Last start: No-decision, 3 IP, 4 ER, 4 H (1 HR), 0 BB, 2 K in 10-5 home win vs. Colorado Rockies Friday
  • Last (only) road start: Loss, 4 1/3 IP, 5 ER, 8 H (1 HR), 3 BB, 4 K in 6-1 setback at Philadelphia Phillies May 6

Skenes (1-0, 2.70 ERA) makes his 3rd career start. He has a 0.90 WHIP, 2.7 BB/9 and 16.2 K/9 in 10 innings.

  • Last start: Win, 6 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 1 BB, 11 K (100 pitches) in 9-3 victory at Chicago Cubs Friday
  • Last (only) home start: No-decision, 4 IP, 3 ER, 6 H (1 HR), 2 BB, 7 K in 10-9 win vs. Cubs May 11

Giants at Pirates picks and predictions

Prediction

Pirates 5, Giants 2

Moneyline

The PIRATES (-158) are worth a look as moderate favorites behind their new ace Skenes.

The rookie right-hander out of LSU was tearing up Triple-A and has carried things over through 2 starts in the majors. He baffled the Cubs in 6 hitless innings last time out at Wrigley Field. This will be his 1st outing against another team besides Chicago, so it will be interesting to see how he handles the Giants (+134). But if his first 2 career starts are any indication, he’ll be just fine.

Run line/Against the spread

The PIRATES -1.5 (+134) is worth playing lightly if you’re a little less conservative, and you like to roll the dice. Obviously, don’t play both the run line and the moneyline for full units each as we’re not looking to double dip. I could see divvying up 1½ units between the 2 options.

There is a bit of risk on the RL play as 3 of the past 4 wins for Pittsburgh have been by just a single run. Of course, the lone exception was a 9-3 win at Wrigley Field in Skenes’ last start.

Over/Under

UNDER 8.5 (-115) is worth a look, but be careful. Skenes is likely to toss up plenty of donuts, but the Giants are expected to use Black, who has been very giving. As mentioned, the Over cashed in the first 2 games of this series, too, so there’s that.

San Francisco led 6-2 after 8 innings but allowed 4 runs in the bottom of the 9th and the game-winning run in the 10th. LHP Erik Miller was credited with the loss.

Pittsburgh has won back-to-back games after taking down San Francisco Tuesday and cashing as a +119 home underdog. Pirates 2B Nick Gonzalez walked it off in the 10th with a run-scoring single.

Giants at Pirates projected starters

LHP Blake Snell vs. RHP Jared Jones

Snell (0-3, 11.57 ERA) makes his 4th start. He has a 1.97 WHIP, 3.9 BB/9 and 9.3 K/9 in 11 2/3 innings.

  • Has been out since April 19 (adductor strain)

Moneyline

BET PIRATES (-120).

The Pirates are 4-1 in their last 5 games and have scored 5 or more runs in 3 of their last 5 while allowing 3 or fewer in 3 of their last 4. They face Snell who struggled mightily before his injury and is seeing his 1st action in over a month.

San Francisco Giants at Pittsburgh Pirates odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s San Francisco Giants at Pittsburgh Pirates odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The San Francisco Giants (23-25) and Pittsburgh Pirates (22-26) meet Tuesday to open a 3-game series. First pitch from PNC Park is set for 6:40 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Giants vs. Pirates odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Giants lead 2-1

San Francisco beat the Colorado Rockies 4-1 Sunday, covering as a -209 home favorite Sunday. The Rockies opened with a run in the 1st, but that was it and the Giants plated 3 in the 5th and 1 in the 6th en route to the win. The Giants have won 4 consecutive games and have scored at least 10 runs in 2 of their last 3 wins.

Pittsburgh escaped with a 3-2 win at the Chicago Cubs Sunday, covering as a +115 underdog. RHP Mitch Keller picked up the win, pitching 6 innings of 2-run ball on 2 hits and 3 walks with 3 K’s. 2B Nick Gonzales‘ 2-run single gave the Bucs a 3-1 lead in the top of the 5th and 3 Pirates relievers shut down the Cubs the final 3 innings after Chicago cut the deficit to 3-2 in the 6th. Pittsburgh took 3 of 4 at Wrigley, only losing Saturday.

Giants at Pirates projected starters

RHP Logan Webb vs. LHP Martin Perez

Webb (4-4, 3.03 ERA) makes his 11th start. He has a 1.35 WHIP, 2.6 BB/9 and 7.1 K/9 through 59 1/3 innings.

  • Last start: Win, 6 IP, 0 ER, 3 H, 3 BB, 5 K in 4-1 home victory vs. Los Angeles Dodgers Wednesday
  • Career vs. Pirates: 1-1, 2.84 ERA (12 2/3 IP, 4 ER), 12 H, 3 BB, 13 K in 2 starts; last faced Bucs in 2022

Perez (1-3, 4.86 ERA) makes his 10th start. He has a 1.50 WHIP, 2.5 BB/9 and 7.2 K/9 through 50 innings.

  • Last start: Loss, 5 IP, 9 ER, 11 H, 1 BB, 4 K in 10-2 loss at Milwaukee Brewers Wednesday
  • Career vs. Giants: 1-1, 2.33 ERA (19 1/3 IP, 5 ER), 11 H, 3 BB, 14 K across 3 starts
  • 2024 vs. Giants: 1 road start, no-decision, 6 IP, 0 ER, 4 H, 2 BB, 4 K in 4-3 Pirates win in 10 innings April 27 — game was tied 1-1 after 9

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Giants at Pirates picks and predictions

Prediction

Giants 6, Pirates 5

Moneyline

LEAN GIANTS (-136).

San Francisco has won 4 straight games and is 6-2 in its last 8 overall. The Giants are also 5-1 in their last 6 matchups vs. the Pirates, including 3-0 in the last 3 games in Pittsburgh.

This is only a lean because the Giants are just 8-15 on the road this season and because both teams have been similarly hot recently.

Run line/Against the spread

While the moneyline lean is with the Giants, consider backing Pittsburgh +1.5 (-150) as I’m predicting a 1-run game.

Expect a tightly contested contest. The Pirates are 3-1 in their last 4 games and are a very similar team to the Giants in terms of overall record.

Pittsburgh is 27-21 ATS this season and is 3-1 ATS in its last 4 games.

Over/Under

BET OVER 7.5 (-118).

The Over has hit in 2 of San Francisco’s last 3 overall and is 6-4 in its last 10 games. For Pittsburgh, the Over is 6-3-1 in its last 10 and is 2-0-1 in its last 3 home games.

The Over also hit in 2 of the 3 head-to-head meetings in Pittsburgh just last month.

San Francisco Giants at Pittsburgh Pirates odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s San Francisco Giants at Pittsburgh Pirates odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The San Francisco Giants (49-41) open a 3-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates (41-49) on Friday at PNC Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET (Apple TV+). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Giants vs. Pirates odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Pirates lead 2-1

The Giants defeated the Colorado Rockies 1-0 Sunday before the All-Star break. San Francisco has won its last 2 games and is only 2 1/2 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks for the lead in the NL West.

The Pirates snapped a 4-game losing skid in their last game before the break with a 4-2 road win over the Diamondbacks Sunday. After a strong start to the season, Pittsburgh is now 8 1/2 games back of the Cincinnati Reds in the NL Central race.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Giants at Pirates projected starters

RHP Ross Stripling vs. LHP Rich Hill

Stripling (0-2, 6.37 ERA) makes his 8th start and 13th appearance. He has a 1.46 WHIP, 2.4 BB/9 and 7.5 K/9 through 41 IP.

  • Allowed multiple ER in 6 of his first 7 starts
  • Yet to pitch more than 5 innings in any appearance this season

Hill (7-9, 4.78 ERA) makes his 19th start. He has a 1.44 WHIP, 3.6 BB/9 and 8.4 K/9 through 98 IP.

  • Has given up 3 ER or more in 5 consecutive starts.
  • May 29 at Giants: Loss, 6 IP, 6 ER, 9 H, 1 BB, 3 K

Giants at Pirates picks and predictions

Prediction

Giants 6, Pirates 4

Moneyline

I’ll take the GIANTS (-130) on the road as they hope to kick off the 2nd half of the season with a win and start an improbable run to win the NL West. San Francisco is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings with Pittsburgh and is 16-7 in its last 23 road games overall.

Run line/Against the spread

BET GIANTS -1.5 (+125).

San Francisco to win by multiple runs presents solid value with Hill on the mound for the Pirates. In 6 of their last 7 wins against the Pirates, the Giants have won by at least 2 runs.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

OVER 9 (-115) is how I’d play the run total with Stripling and Hill toeing the rubber. The Pirates have hit the Over in 6 of their last 7 home games and both of these pitchers have struggled to prevent runs in recent starts.

San Francisco Giants at Pittsburgh Pirates odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Friday’s San Francisco Giants at Pittsburgh Pirates odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The San Francisco Giants (23-14) meet the Pittsburgh Pirates (15-22) Friday for the second game of a four-game set at PNC Park. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the Giants vs. Pirates with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: Giants lead 1-0 after Thursday’s 3-1 victory.

RHP Kevin Gausman gets the nod for the Giants. Gausman is 3-0 with a 1.97 ERA (45 2/3 IP, 10 ER), 0.88 WHIP, 2.4 BB/9 and 9.3 K/9 over 7 starts.

  • Last outing: Win, 7-1, in 6 IP with 1 ER, 3 H, 1 BB and 7 K vs. the San Diego Padres Saturday.
  • Career vs. Pirates: 1-2 with a 5.97 ERA (34 2/3 IP, 23 ER), 1.47 WHIP and 7.3 K/9 over 6 starts and 2 relief appearances (last start was in 2019).
    • vs. Pirates on the current roster: 71 at-bats with a .254/.289/.408 slash line, 17/4 K/BB, 2 HR and 6 RBIs.

RHP Miguel Yajure is the projected starter for the Pirates. He dropped his first MLB start, while allowing 4 earned runs (2 home runs) on 4 hits and 2 walks with 4 strikeouts in Pittsburgh’s 5-2 loss at the Detroit Tigers April 21.

Giants at Pirates odds, lines, picks and prediction

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 1:30 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Giants -200 (bet $200 to win $100) | Pirates +165 (bet $100 to win $165)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Giants -1.5 (-115) | Pirates +1.5 (-105)
  • Over/Under: 7.5 (O: -105 | U: -120)

Prediction

Pirates 5, Giants 4

Money line (ML)

PASS with a “lean” because Gausman hasn’t pitched well in PNC Park throughout his career, making Giants (-200) a no-go, but good teams beat up on the lowly Pirates (+165) and San Francisco is a good team.

For instance, Gausman is 1-2 with a 7.32 ERA (19 2/3 IP, 16 ER), 1.58 WHIP and 6.9 K/9 over 3 starts and 2 bullpen outings at PNC Park.

Also, since the beginning of last season, the Giants are 38-21 vs. teams with a losing record while the Pirates are 19-39 against teams with a winning record.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

“LEAN” to the PIRATES +1.5 (-105) for a half unit because Gausman hasn’t been sharp at PNC Park and the Giants -1.5 (-115) bullpen has been subpar this year.

San Francisco’s bullpen is 24th in xFIP, 20th in K-BB%, 26th in home runs per nine and second-to-last in WAR, so the backdoor is going to be open in the late innings.

Over/Under (O/U)

“LEAN” to the OVER 7.5 (-105) for a half unit because the Giants have a 4-2 O/U record in Gausman starts, partially due to San Francisco’s weak bullpen.

But, the Giants have several key bats that could be out of the lineup tonight such as 2B Donovan Solano, 1B Brandon Belt, and SS Brandon Crawford.

Also, Pittsburgh’s lineup is at the bottom of the league in several advanced hitting categories such as 26th in wRC+, wOBA and OPS and dead-last in hard-hit rate.
