It’s Thursday, August 13 and today’s play of the day comes from the 2018 match up between the No. 2 Bulldogs and unranked Tennessee at Sanford Stadium.

The Bulldogs marched right down the field on their first possession of the game, that is until they faced a third and long from Tennessee’s 31 yard line.

Plays don’t always work how they’re supposed to but as long as it ends with a Georgia touchdown, that’s all that matters!

The Bulldogs would go on to win 38-12, behind two-touchdown performances by both quarterback Justin Fields and running back D’Andre Swift.

Just because Virginia will not be playing Georgia on Sept. 7 doesn’t mean the Bulldogs won’t be facing anyone in Atlanta for the Chick-fil-A Kick Off game. Therefore, we are keeping to our original countdown.

There are 39 days until Georgia is scheduled to kick off in Atlanta.

Former Georgia defensive back, No. 39, Corey Moore (2011-2014) appeared in 50 games over his career in Athens. From Griffin, Georgia, the former 4-star recruit was rated as the No. 4 safety in the 2011 recruiting class. At Georgia, Moore totaled 76 tackles, 2 interceptions, three pass breakups and one sack and was a defensive leader of Georgia’s 2014 team that finished 10-3.

Moore went undrafted in 2014, but signed with the NFL’s  Houston Texans in 2015 where he played three seasons before playing for the Indianapolis Colts in 2018. Moore is currently a member of the Ottawa Redblacks of the CFL.

Former Georgia defensive back, No. 42, Bill Krugg (1975-1977) was a three-year starter at safety for the Bulldogs, earning All-SEC honors each season. He was a part of the 1976 Georgia team that finished 10-2 and earned a trip to the Sugar Bowl. Krugg was named Playboy and Southeastern football pre-season All-American in 1977 and finished his career with 13 sacks from the “rover” position.

Former Georgia linebacker, No. 45, Boss Bailey (2000-2002) the brother of former Georgia players Ronald Bailey and Champ Bailey, was a standout tackler on the Bulldogs’ 2002 defense that finished first in the SEC in scoring defense. Bailey totaled 114 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss and added six sacks.  He was named first team All-American as well as a finalist for the Butkus Award, given to the nation’s most outstanding linebacker. Bailey was drafted in the second round of the 2003 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions and spent some time with the Denver Broncos before being released in 2009.

Former Georgia fullback, No. 46 Chris McCarthy helped pave the way for Georgia’s 1980 National Championship while blocking for legendary running back Herschel Walker. McCarthy (1979-1982) was also a large part of Walker’s Heisman campaign in 1982 and added 322 yards on the ground that season.

Here is a game clip from Georgia versus Florida (1982). Perhaps McCarthy’s best game as a Bulldog, he helped share Herschel’s load against a stingy Florida defense and even broke a long run to cap it off.

Georgia football great, No. 47, David Pollack is one of two Georgia players to ever be named A three time all-american. (Herschel Walker)

Pollack, from Snellville, Georgia, played for the Bulldogs from 2001-2004 where he totaled 36 sacks – a school record. Pollack’s accolades included 2002 SEC Player of the Year honors, the 2003 and 2004 Ted Hendricks Award, and, all in 2004, the Chuck Bednarik Award, Lombardi Award, Lott Trophy and SEC Defensive Player of the Year.

Pollack was taken by the Cincinnati Bengals with the 17th overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft, but his career was cut short by a broken cervical vertebra that he suffered in a game in 2006.

Pollack turned to sports media after his injury and he has since become one of the faces of college football because of his work at ESPN and his involvement in ESPN’s College Gameday.

Georgia guard, No. 50, Warren Ericson is a redshirt sophomore from Suwanee, Georgia.

In 2019, Ericson saw action in six games and started at right guard against Baylor in the Sugar Bowl. Part of Georgia’s 2017 No. 1 ranked recruiting class, Ericson was rated as the No. 12 guard and the No. 5 center out of North Gwinnett High School.

Because of former Georgia guard Cade May’s transfer to Tennessee and Ben Cleveland’s history of injuries, Ericson should see plenty of game time in 2020.

There are 51 days until Georgia football is scheduled to kick off versus Virginia in Atlanta on Sept. 7.

Georgia versus Tennessee in 2012 was one of the most prolific offensive match ups in UGA vs UT history. The game featured over 1,000 yards of total offense and 95 total points. Georgia rushed for 274 yards and five touchdowns, with running backs Todd Gurley and Keith Marshall dominating the ground game in their freshman seasons. Marshall totaled 164 yards and two touchdowns on only 10 carries and Gurley tallied 130 yards and three touchdowns, highlighted by a wild 51 yard rush in the second quarter.

There are 53 days until Georgia is scheduled to kick off versus Virginia in Atlanta on Sept. 7.

Former Georgia guard, No. 53, Lamont Gaillard (2014-2018) from Fayetteville, North Carolina, started 42 games during his time in Athens. Gaillard was the centerpiece of Georgia’s 2017 offensive line that paved the way for an SEC Championship and a national title run in 2017 and also helped the Bulldogs to a league-leading 238 rushing yards per game in 2018.

He was named to both the 2018 Coaches All-SEC First Team and 2018 Associated Press All-SEC Second Team.

Gaillard was drafted in the 6th round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals.

Georgia guard, No. 55, Trey Hill, from Warner Robins, Georgia, started at center all 14 games for the Bulldogs in 2019. The former four-star prospect was named to the AP All-SEC Second Team and was co-winner of Offensive Most Improved Player award, given at the team’s postseason awards gala.

Pro Football Focus noted that during Hill’s 433 pass block snaps in 2019, he allowed only two quarterback pressures.
