Oregon Ducks remain unanimous No. 1 in US LBM Coaches Poll

Despite the chaos in the US LBM Coaches poll, the Oregon Ducks are still No. 1 in the country.

It was a chaotic Saturday in the world of college football as both No. 3 and No. 4 went down.

Georgia and Miami were upset in their perspective games, which makes room for some new names to be added towards the top. What isn’t new, however, is the Oregon Ducks, who are still ranked as a unanimous No. 1 after their 39-18 win over Maryland.

The beneficiaries of those losses from the Hurricanes and the Bulldogs were No. 3 Texas, No. 4 Tennessee and No. 6 Indiana. Perhaps the Hoosiers (10-0) are receiving the respect they deserve. When Indiana goes to Columbus to face No. 2 Ohio State, a lot will be known.

Georgia nearly fell out of the Top 10 with its loss to Ole Miss as the Bulldogs fell to No. 10. Speaking of Ole Miss, the Rebels moved up just one spot to No. 11. Miami also fell eight spots to No. 12.

LSU suffered its third loss of the year after being crushed at home by Alabama. The Tigers fell nine big spots to No. 22.

What Kirby Smart said after Georgia’s ugly loss to Ole Miss

Kirby Smart gives Ole Miss credit for beating Georgia and details what is next for UGA

The Georgia Bulldogs are 7-2 after losing to the Ole Miss Rebels, 28-10. Georgia missed several opportunities against Ole Miss, but was unable to get much going offensively.

What did Georgia coach Kirby Smart say after UGA’s loss to Ole Miss?

“A lot of credit to Ole Miss, great atmosphere,” Kirby Smart said. “They played a really good game, I thought Lane (Kiffin) had his team ready to play. We obviously struggled in a lot of areas. We had miscues, mistakes, penalties, things that are really hard to overcome, especially when you play a really good football team.”

Georgia finished the day with a few key dropped passes and three turnovers, including two fumbles. The Bulldogs beat themselves at times, but Ole Miss was clearly the better team.

“I told our team coming into this week, I felt like they’re probably the most talented team that we have played,” said Smart. Georgia’s loss to Ole Miss is the Bulldogs’ first loss to a team other than Alabama since 2020.

“They outplayed us tonight, outcoached us, and did a great job,” said Smart. Georgia suffered its largest defeat since the 2019 SEC championship game against LSU.

Ole Miss outrushed Georgia, 134-59, and recorded five sacks, which is the most Georgia has allowed all season. Georgia’s offensive line is dealing with several injuries, and it hurt the Bulldogs against Ole Miss.

“When you get in a mode of I have to throw the ball, you can get in trouble in this league, especially on the road. And we had some drives there where we had to throw the ball. And we struggled to block Princely (Umanmielen) in obvious passing situations,” said Smart.

What’s next for Georgia?

“It’s on to the next,” Smart told his team after the game. “I mean, welcome to the SEC, baby. … We’ve got a big game next week. We’ve got to go out, and we’ve got to find a way to execute at a higher level.”

Georgia hosts Tennessee at 7:30 p.m. ET on Nov. 16.

Winners, losers from Georgia’s 28-10 loss to Ole Miss

Georgia football has a lot of players struggling to produce right now after a 28-10 loss to Ole Miss

The Georgia Bulldogs’ 28-10 loss to Ole Miss hurts. The Bulldogs are going to have to fight and claw to make the College Football Playoff. Since they are unlikely to make an SEC championship game appearance, they’ll probably have to play in the first round of the playoff.

Georgia did not play well offensively against Ole Miss. Georgia had another three-turnover performance and scored just three points that weren’t off turnovers. Georgia’s defense showed up some, but was not dominant as Ole Miss whooped Georgia.

Who are our top winners and losers from Georgia’s loss at Ole Miss?

Loser: Georgia’s trust in Carson Beck

Georgia is attempting an insane number of screen passes. The Bulldogs are no longer throwing the ball vertically as often, and opposing defenses are teeing off on Carson Beck. Beck’s lone interception was a batted ball, but Saturday was another example of Beck not performing well when the opposing pass rush is putting pressure on him.

Winner: Georgia’s red-zone defense

The Bulldogs forced five Ole Miss field goals and allowed just two touchdowns, which helped keep the game close. Georgia allowed a touchdown on Ole Miss’ first red-zone trip, but the Dawgs toughened from there.

Loser: Running back Nate Frazier

Georgia freshman running back Nate Frazier ran the ball effectively at times against Ole Miss. He totaled 12 carries for 47 yards and one touchdown, but he coughed up a pair of fumbles, which will put any running back in the doghouse.

Loser: Left tackle Earnest Greene

Look away, Georgia fans. Earnest Greene’s performance against Ole Miss was not pretty. He has to protect Carson Beck’s blindside better for Georgia to make noise this season. Georgia had allowed nine sacks entering the Ole Miss game. The Rebels accumulated five, and many of them were Greene’s fault. Georgia’s pass blocking prevented UGA from getting much of an offensive rhythm.

Winner: Safety Dan Jackson

Georgia safety Dan Jackson continues generating turnovers. His first quarter interception came as a result of linebacker Jalon Walker’s pressure on Ole Miss. Jackson is creating havoc and is having the best season of his UGA career.

There’s a new No. 1 in the SEC standings after Week 11

The SEC standings got turned upside down in Week 11 after Georgia’s loss to Ole Miss

The Tennessee Volunteers are on top of the SEC standings after Week 11. Georgia suffered a 28-10 loss to Ole Miss, which ended Georgia’s brief reign at No. 1 in the conference.

Ole Miss is back in the SEC championship race, which is very balanced. Georgia’s loss means the Bulldogs have two conference losses and don’t have the tiebreaker with Alabama or Ole Miss. As a result, Georgia is unlikely to make the SEC championship game.

Speaking of Alabama, the Crimson Tide demolished LSU and its College Football Playoff hopes in a shocking 42-13 road win.

Texas blew out Florida, 49-17, to continue its strong season. South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers and running back Raheim Sanders both scored a pair of touchdowns to help the Gamecocks beat Vanderbilt 28-7.

Tennessee crushed Mississippi State, 33-14, but may have lost starting quarterback Nico Iamaleava in the process. Oklahoma’s stunning collapse in a 30-23 loss to Missouri continued the Sooners’ downfall.

Arkansas, Kentucky, Auburn and Texas A&M had bye weeks in Week 11.

Is Trevor Etienne playing today? Injury updates for Georgia RB

Georgia running back Trevor Etienne is dealing with a rib injury. Here are the latest updates.

Georgia Bulldogs running back Trevor Etienne missed the second half of the Florida Gators game due to a painful injury to his ribs. Etienne is Georgia’s leading rusher with 89 carries for 453 yards and seven touchdowns. He is UGA’s top receiving weapon out of the backfield.

Etienne is expected to play on Saturday against the Ole Miss Rebels. However, his status is one to monitor because Etienne’s injury is a pain management issue.

Trevor Etienne injury update

Trevor Etienne is expected to play against Ole Miss with a rib injury. He is not listed on Georgia’s official injury report.

“Etienne, I feel good about,” said Georgia head coach Kirby Smart on Monday. “He felt good yesterday and did some things yesterday with our guys… The big thing is just his ability to sustain and deal with a little bit of pain because he’s going to have some there. But he’s a tough kid, and I think he’ll do well with it.”

Georgia RB depth chart

1. Trevor Etienne

2. Nate Frazier

3. Cash Jones

4. Dwight Phillips

Georgia is already without running backs Branson Robinson and Roderick Robinson for the Ole Miss game. Last week against Florida, Georgia leaned on freshman running back Nate Frazier (19 carries for 82 yards and one touchdown), who was the only Georgia back outside of Etienne to receive a carry (outside of Dwight Phillips’ touchdown rush).

Cash Jones is Georgia’s top receiving back if Etienne can’t play. Jones hauled in three catches for 37 yards and a touchdown against Florida.

Georgia is going to need Cash Jones and Nate Frazier to step up if Etienne is unable to go against Ole Miss, who has one of the top run defenses in the nation. Georgia plays Ole Miss at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, Nov. 9.

UGA vs. Ole Miss series history

Georgia Bulldogs versus Ole Miss Rebels football series history: Dawgs on top

The Georgia Bulldogs lead the all-time series history over the Ole Miss Rebels 33-13-1. Georgia has won 11 of the last 12 meetings in the series, but the Bulldogs did not win their last trip to Oxford.

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart is 1-1 in his career against Ole Miss with his only loss to the Rebels coming in 2016. Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin is 0-1 against Georgia.

Let’s take a look back at some of the recent meetings between the two SEC foes.

Nov. 11, 2023 – Georgia 52, Ole Miss 17

Georgia entered as the No. 1 team, facing a top-10 ranked Ole Miss. Georgia controlled the game from start to finish, with quarterback Carson Beck delivering a standout performance, throwing four passing touchdowns. The Bulldogs’ defense effectively limited Ole Miss’ rushing leader Quinshon Judkins and forced multiple turnovers.

Judkins scored two rushing touchdowns, but it wasn’t enough to stop Georgia’s dominant offense. This victory continued Georgia’s long winning streak and strengthened their College Football Playoff hopes.

Sept. 24, 2016 – Ole Miss 45, Georgia 14

Ole Miss achieved a major victory over Georgia, with quarterback Chad Kelly showcasing his skills by passing for 282 yards and three total touchdowns. Ole Miss took an early lead with three first half touchdowns and built a commanding 31-0 halftime advantage over Kirby Smart and Georgia.

The Rebels’ defense held Georgia scoreless until the fourth quarter, where the Bulldogs scored twice but remained far behind. This game snapped a 10-game losing streak for Ole Miss against Georgia, though the result was later vacated due to NCAA sanctions.

Georgia pulled away in the second half after being down 10-0 early to Ole Miss. Quarterback Aaron Murray threw for 384 yards, leading a scoring surge that saw Georgia outscore Ole Miss 37-0 after the Rebels’ early advantage. The Bulldogs’ defense tightened up, intercepting passes and shutting down Ole Miss for the rest of the game. Georgia won at home to maintain its lead in the SEC East race.

Sept. 24, 2011 – Georgia 27, Ole Miss 13

Georgia overcame a slow start with running back Isaiah Crowell and quarterback Aaron Murray leading the way offensively. Crowell’s rushing and Murray’s passing helped Georgia establish a lead, while their defense contained Ole Miss, which struggled to find momentum on offense.

Georgia held a 17-7 halftime lead and maintained control in the second half. The game secured Georgia’s first conference win of the season, and the Bulldogs gained momentum toward a strong SEC finish.

Four-star WR CJ Wiley commits to Georgia

Four-star wide receiver recruit CJ Wiley commits to the Georgia Bulldogs

Kirby Smart and company gained a huge commitment from four-star CJ Wiley committed to Georgia football this evening. Wiley fills a huge recruiting need for the Bulldogs to help strengthen the future of the wide receiver position.

Wiley is a huge in-state target that this Georgia staff could not miss. Wiley has been on the Bulldogs’ radar since popping off his junior year accumulating 68 receptions, 1,473 yards, and 14 touchdowns.

Wiley was previously committed to Florida State since June but decommitted in October.

Wiley is ranked as the 80th recruit in nation while being the No. 12 receiver and the No. 10 prospect in Georgia, per On3.

With Wiley committing the tide has turned on Georgia getting elite talent at the receiver position. To go along with Talyn Taylor, Wiley offers a play style as a big body receiver is something that the Bulldogs’ receiver room has not seen much of since Lawrence Cager left.

If there’s one knock on recruiting for Georgia recently it is that ability to get elite talent at the receiver.

One thing that is an underrated skill that Wiley possess is his concentration  to bring in those contested catches and his speed. Wiley has been used in Milton High School’s offense as a deep threat and as the alpha receiver.

With Wiley’s commitment Georgia now moves into the top three in the 2025 ranks nationally overtaking LSU in the third spot.

SEC recruiting rankings after Georgia’s latest commitments

The SEC has seven of the top eight recruiting classes in CFB. Where does Georgia’s class of 2025 rank?

The Georgia Bulldogs recently gained a class of 2025 commitment, four-star safety Rasean Dinkins, and a class of 2026 commitment, four-star receiver Vance Spafford. Georgia also lost a commitment from four-star cornerback recruit Shamari Earls, who is a member of the 2025 cycle.

It has been a busy few weeks for the Bulldogs on the recruiting trail. Georgia is preparing for the early signing period, which begins Dec. 4. Georgia football and coach Kirby Smart have five commitments from five-star recruits in the class of 2025, which is tied for the most in the country with the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Georgia has 24 commitments in the class of 2025 following Dinkins’ commitment. The Bulldogs have the second-ranked recruiting class in the SEC and the third-ranked class in the nation.

Update: Georgia remains No. 3 in the nation (No. 2 in the SEC) in recruiting following CJ Wiley’s commitment.

The Alabama Crimson Tide have the No. 1 recruiting class in the SEC in Year 1 of the Kalen DeBoer era. The SEC has seven of the top eight recruiting classes in the nation. The SEC is easily the best recruiting conference in college football.

Georgia transfer LB among the SEC’s leading tacklers

Georgia football transfer linebacker is fourth in the SEC in total tackles

Former Georgia Bulldogs linebacker Xavian Sorey has made an instant impact with the Arkansas Razorbacks this season. Sorey, who had 24 total tackles and one sack across three seasons at Georgia, has easily topped those numbers with the Razorbacks.

Sorey has 70 total tackles, an interception and a sack this season with Arkansas. Sorey leads Arkansas in tackles and is a big piece of the Razorbacks’ defense.

The 6-foot-3, 225-pound linebacker is fourth in the SEC in tackles. Sorey recorded 13 total tackles in the Razorbacks’ recent 63-31 loss to the Ole Miss Rebels. Sorey is an example of a former Georgia player that left patrially due to playing time and is posting big numbers in an expanded role with his new team.

Arkansas is 5-4 this season including 3-3 in SEC action. Former Georgia offensive line coach Sam Pittman and the Razorbacks are having a solid season. Arkansas’ next game is at home on Nov. 16 against the Texas Longhorns.

Where’s UGA football in latest College Football Playoff ranking?

Where the committee has ranked Georgia in the College Football Playoff rankings and who UGA would play

(This story was updated to add new information.)

With the first College Football Playoff bracket projection coming out, people wondered where the Georgia Bulldogs would land. Well, the committee ranked the Georgia Bulldogs No. 3, behind only Ohio State and Oregon. That means Georgia would be the No. 2 seed if the playoffs started this week.

It’s a strange turn of events for the Bulldogs, who have had impressive wins against the No. 23 Clemson Tigers and the No. 5 Texas Longhorns but lost to No. 11 Alabama. In contrast, Ohio State has not beaten a top-25 opponent outside of Penn State, which had a limited Drew Allar at quarterback.

However, Georgia looked inconsistent against Mississippi State, Kentucky and Florida. Still, UGA is on top of the SEC standings and ranks No. 2 in the US LBM Coaches Poll.

Some of that inconsistency has come from Carson Beck’s sloppy play. He has six interceptions in the last two games and 11 interceptions in the last five.

The Georgia defense has been holding the fort, led by potential first-round picks Mykel Williams and Malaki Starks, star freshman safety K.J. Bolden, and the incredible play of linebackers CJ Allen, Raylen Wilson and Jalon Walker.
