Georgia football: Score, stat predictions for UGA vs Auburn

Here are some Georgia football score and stat predictions for the UGA vs Auburn game.

No. 4 Georgia and No. 12 Auburn square off on The Plains at 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS from the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry.

For Georgia, everything rides on this game. A win secures the Bulldogs a spot in the SEC Championship and gets them one step closer to making a trip to the College Football Playoff.

For Auburn, the Tigers pretty much dictate how the rest of the college football season plays out. Both Georgia and Alabama need to beat Auburn if either want to head to the playoff, meanwhile Oregon, which lost to Auburn early in the season, is hoping that the Tigers can win at least one of two games vs UGA and Bama. If Auburn can win, Oregon’s lone loss becomes a lot more forgivable and gives the Ducks a better argument to the committee at season’s end.

This should be your classic SEC matchup. A good ole fashion bloodbath featuring two of college football’s most physical teams.

On Georgia’s first drive of the game:

The place will be deafening and Georgia will surprise us all with a deep shot. Next thing we know, Georgia is just past midfield. The drive will stall after two runs and an incomplete pass. Jake Camarda pins Auburn inside its own 15 yard line.

On Auburn’s first drive of the game:

Nowhere to go. Auburn had a bye week to prepare for Georgia’s defense, but you can’t prepare for speed and physicality. Georgia allows one first down and then forces a punt.

5 reasons why Auburn could beat Georgia

Here are five reasons why Georgia football could lose the UGA vs Auburn matchup Saturday.

The Georgia Bulldogs head West to the plains of Auburn Saturday for a cross-division clash in the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry.

What’s at stake?

Oh, ya know, just a Top 15 win over an SEC rival, a chance to clinch the East and an opportunity to keep playoff hopes alive.

The Dawgs got caught off guard at Auburn in 2017, entering the game ranked No. 1 in the nation. Will Georgia be able to get revenge for that loss in its first trip back since?

Stakes will be high at kickoff on Saturday, but which team will come out on top? We’re going with the Dawgs, and we gave you 5 reasons why Georgia will win the game earlier this week. But let’s not take the Tigers lightly. They are a team that is more than capable of taking down Georgia.

Here are 5 reasons Auburn could grab the victory and put an end to Georgia’s season.

Let’s dive in.

Georgia football announces captains for Auburn game

Georgia football announced its captains for the UGA vs Auburn game on Saturday.

Georgia football takes on Auburn this Saturday in the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry, a game that the Bulldogs must win to keep their College Football Playoff hopes alive.

On Friday ahead of the big game, Georgia announced its captains for the matchup.

Wearing the patch on Saturday will be running back D’Andre Swift, quarterback Jake Fromm and safety J.R. Reed.

This season, these three have been three of the biggest keys to the success of the 8-1 Bulldogs.

Fromm has guided No. 4 ranked Georgia all season, throwing for 1,858 yards, completing  67% of his passes, tossing 13 touchdowns and giving up just three interceptions.

Swift is closing in on the 1,000 yard marker through nine games and is currently at 921, averaging 6.3 yards per carry.

And on the other side of the ball it’s been Reed who has come up with numerous big plays to help turn Georgia’s defense into arguably the best in college football.

They will all have their hands full playing on the road in a hostile environment this Saturday, though.

Georgia Football Week 12: Expert picks and predictions (UGA vs Auburn)

Georgia football expert picks and predictions for UGA vs Auburn. Stats, score, betting predictions.

The Georgia Bulldogs have a chance to go the their 3rd straight SEC Championship game with a win over Auburn this Saturday.

They have already proven that they control their own destiny, winning three straight SEC East games following an overtime loss to South Carolina.

Many counted Georgia out, saying its season was over with that loss, but the Dawgs kept barking and scrapped their way back into the top 4 and in perfect position to make a trip to the SEC Championship, likely against LSU.

But first, Georgia’s focus is on Auburn. A win, and the Dawgs not only secure a trip back to Atlanta, but can start thinking College Football Playoff – though Kirby Smart would never admit that.

This Saturday in Auburn is going to be a bloodbath, as these are two of the most physically dominant teams in college football.

NEXT: STAT PREDICTIONS

What the Auburn media is saying about Georgia football before big game

Here’s what the Auburn media is saying about Georgia football ahead of the UGA vs AU game.

With No. 4 Georgia traveling to No. 12 Auburn to partake in the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry, the whole nation will have their eyes on CBS at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.

For Georgia, there’s so much riding on this game. A win not only secures the Dawgs a spot in the SEC Championship but it keeps their College Football Playoff hopes alive before they’d square off against Texas A&M, Tech and LSU.

A loss, and Georgia can kiss the Playoff goodbye and will put even more pressure on them the next weekend vs the Aggies if they wish to secure their spot in the SEC Championship.

Auburn is no joke and should not be taken lightly. The Tigers have arguably the best defensive front in the nation, meanwhile Georgia’s offensive line will put up as a good of a fight as Auburn has seen this season.

Unstoppable force meets immovable object.

The whole college football community is talking about this game as we approach Saturday, but I’m more curious as to what the Auburn media is saying about the matchup.

We searched through a few sites to pull some quotes from Tiger media.

Auburn defense, a loud Jordan-Hare problem for Georgia – Al.com

Charles Hollis of Al.com wrote about the Georgia vs Auburn game and how quarterback Bo Nix will be the X-factor. He also mentioned the fact that Auburn’s defense, coupled with the wild atmosphere, will make life difficult for Jake Fromm.

Read the full story here:

With the exception of Auburn’s defensive line, Georgia likely has the edge everywhere else. Nix is the X-factor. If he can’t put up respectable passing numbers, Auburn doesn’t need to get off the bus. If the running game can’t run, more bad news.

Georgia football has the most NFL players nominated for sportsmanship award

The NFL recognized four former UGA football players on Thursday, the most of any other program.

Recently, the NFL announced the nominees for the Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award, and four former Georgia football players made the cut.

Among the finalists were former Dawgs Nick Chubb (Browns), Matthew Stafford (Lions), Thomas Davis (Chargers), and Ben Jones (Titans). The award considers a players sportsmanship to opponents on the field as well as things like community service and impact.

The Dawgs had far and away the most candidates of any single college. In fact, the only other school that had multiple finalists was Alabama, as former players Julio Jones and Dalvin Tomlinson were finalists.

This recognition further proves the unparalleled level of activism and community reach that has been and continues to be preached in the Georgia program. Congrats to these Dawgs!

For No. 4 Georgia, it’s pretty simple. Win and you are in.

The Bulldogs face a tough challenge this Saturday against the No. 12 ranked Auburn Tigers, though.

This edition of The Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry will be played in Auburn and will air on CBS.

Since 1892, the Dawgs and the Tigers have met 123 times, with 59-56-8.

With such a tough matchup ahead and so much on the line for Kirby Smart and his team, I wanted to hear from some former Dawgs who have played in the storied rivalry.

My favorite post for each big Georgia game, these Damn Good Dawgs predicted the score of this weekend’s big meeting.

RB Keith Marshall: “27-17 Dawgs”

WR Tavarres King: “34-13 Georgia”

LB Davin Bellamy: “31-17 Dawgs”

LB Jordan Jenkins: Georgia, 35-24″

RB Richard Samuel: “24-14 Georgia”

LB Dannell Ellerbe: “Georgia 17-7”

K Marshall Morgan: “31-17 Dawgs on top!”

My man Hot Rod is going to be 100%

DL Mike Thornton: “Georgia 21, Auburn 10. Go Dawgs!”

P Cam Nizialek: “Georgia 23-20”

WR/PR Damien Gary: “Georgia, 31-17”

OL Hunter Long: “31-19 Dawgs!”

OL Kolton Houston:

“I think I’m scared to (give a prediction”

DL John Atkins: “20-17 UGA”

OL Austin Long: “24-6 Dawgs on top!”

TE Jeb Blazevich: “20-10 DAWWWWGGGZZZZZ”

LB Ryne Rankin:

Ahhhhh the Deep Souths oldest rivalry! As long as Auburn doesn’t find some kind of horseshoe up their … like they did in 2013 then the dawgs should prevail 20-13! Swift going to shake and bake on a few folks and get a TD Hot rod going to kick 2 field goals and Fromm going to dump a deep one to Cager (if healthy) for a TD! My boy Tae & JR are going to ball along with the defense playing lights out & expect a INT (or 2), the Big boys upfront gotta eat this game for all of this to happen on the offensive side of the ball!

DL Toby Johnson: “32-17 UGA”

How Georgia and Auburn stack up: statistical breakdown

A look at how Georgia football and Auburn matchup statistically

[jwplayer ENZmluK3]

This Saturday, the Georgia Bulldogs and Auburn Tigers will write another chapter in the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry when they square off at 3:30 PM in Jordan Hare Stadium.

The Dawgs are coming off an expected trouncing of the Missouri Tigers, 27-0, while Auburn will be fresh off of a bye week.

This game figures to be won in the trenches, as the Dawgs have one of the nation’s best offensive lines and the Tigers have one of the elite defensive lines.

With this in mind, let’s take a look at how the teams stack up statistically.

Watch: Alabama football players react to finding out CFP rankings

Alabama football players were not thrilled with their position behind UGA football in the College Football Playoff rankings.

The College Football Playoff committee had a big decision to make in the latest edition of their rankings.

To value Georgia’s two good wins and one bad loss over Alabama’s no signature wins and one forgivable loss?

Ultimately, the committee placed Georgia at No. 4 in the rankings, meaning if the Playoffs were to begin today the Dawgs would be in.

Alabama checked in at No. 5. Some argue that the Tide should have been ranked at 4, some are fine with the committee’s decision and then there’s a decent sized portion of the college football community who actually think Nick Saban’s team is not even deserving of being the second highest ranked one-loss program.

Bama lost a close game to LSU, which is now No. 1 in the nation. The final score showed Alabama lost by five, but it really did not feel that tight throughout the full game.

Despite that, and the fact that Georgia has two top-25 wins to Alabama’s zero, Bama players were not pleased to find out they sit behind Georgia in the newest rankings.

Watch as they react to the rankings. Volume up.

“As you look at No. 4 and No. 5 and the discussion around those two teams: two really good teams, obviously one-loss teams,” committee chair Rob Mullens said. “We just saw Alabama had a tough loss against LSU, but when you compare that against Georgia’s resume and the two big wins that Georgia had…”
