Cardinals’ grade for 3rd-round pick Garrett Williams: B-

The selection of Williams in the third round is fine but unspectacular.

The Arizona Cardinals made Syracuse cornerback Garrett Williams their first of two selections in the third round of the draft on Friday.

He was one of two cornerbacks the Cardinals drafted over the weekend.

What grade do they get for the selection of Williams?

Grade: B-minus

Williams was pretty good at Syracuse.

However, he is coming off a torn ACL and will not be ready until at least July. That means no offseason reps until perhaps training camp.

Williams, even before the injury, was only average athletically and is not the ideal length. He is 5-foot-10.

There is no questioning his character, a theme with all the Cardinals’ draft picks this year, but there were more athletic corners who went at the top of the fourth like Jakorian Bennett and Kelee Ringo.

Before his ACL tear, he was a solid starter and one of the best corners in his conference. He made plays on the ball.

He seems to be a reasonably solid selection.

CB Garrett Williams hopes to be back from ACL tear before training camp

New Cardinals CB Garrett Williams,a third-round pick, expects to return from his ACL injury and be on the field in July.

The Arizona Cardinals used the first of their third-round picks on Friday to select Syracuse cornerback Garrett Williams. Williams is a talented player who was a three-year starter but is coming off an injury.

He tore his ACL at the end of October.

However, he expects to be ready before the season.

“I should be ready by July is what the doctors are saying,” he told reporters after he was selected.

After that, it would be determined by team trainers.

If that timetable is accurate, he will not be able to get any on-field work during rookie minicamp, OTAs or regular minicamp. However, he should be able to get on the field for training camp, which will start at the end of July.

With Marco Wilson, Antonio Hamilton, Rashad Fenton and Kris Boyd already on the roster at cornerback, along with 2022 draft pick Christian Matthew, Williams will not necessarily be expected to be in the playing rotation but he should at least be able to compete for time once he gets on the field.

POLL: Grade Cardinals’ selection of CB Garrett William with pick No. 72

Vote in the poll to grade the Cardinals’ selection of Syracuse CB Garrett Williams in the third round.

The Arizona Cardinals went with a cornerback with the first of three third-round selections in the 2023 NFL draft. It wasn’t a pick most expected with who was left on the board.

They selected Syracuse cornerback Garrett Williams.

Williams was a three-year starter at Syracuse. However, he tore his ACL in October, so he is not ready to play.

He is on the shorter end at 5-foot-10 and weighs 192 pounds, but he does have long arms. He has 31-inch arms and a wingspan of 74 1/2 inches, which is closer to what a cornerback at six feet or taller might have.

They passed on a center and several intriguing receivers.

What do you think of the pick? Grade it in the poll and give your thoughts in the comments.

12 cornerbacks Broncos could target in 2023 NFL draft

Here’s a quick list of 12 cornerbacks the Broncos could target during the 2023 NFL draft.

The top of the Denver Broncos’ cornerback depth chart looks solid — Pat Surtain is one of the best outside cornerbacks in the NFL, K’Waun Williams is an excellent slot cornerback and Damarri Mathis showed a lot of promise as a rookie last season.

Behind those three, though, Denver’s cornerback room includes names like Tremon Smith, Essang Bassey, Ja’Quan McMillian and Delonte Hood. Several of those players will likely make the Broncos’ 53-man roster this summer, but Denver needs more depth at the position.

Drafting another starting-caliber cornerback to play across from Surtain with Mathis being bumped to CB3 duties might be an ideal scenario. With that possibility in mind, here’s a quick list of 12 names to watch for during the NFL draft this week.

7-round mock draft for the Broncos with the NFL draft one week away

Here is our latest seven-round NFL mock draft prediction for the Broncos.

We rolled out our first seven-round mock draft for the Denver Broncos last week, and with the 2023 NFL draft now exactly one week away, it’s time for an updated seven-round mock.

This mock features all-new selections from last week. The Broncos do not hold first- or second-round picks this year following the Russell Wilson trade in 2022, but Denver does hold back-to-back picks in the third round.

Broncos general manager George Paton will probably make a few trades during the draft, but those are impossible to predict, so this draft only includes picks for the five selections that Denver currently holds.

Here is our latest seven-round mock draft for the Broncos.

Rams 2023 Draft Prospect Profile: Garrett Williams (CB, Syracuse)

Garrett Williams out of Syracuse would be a solid CB for the Rams to target during the 2023 NFL draft.

It was a forgettable season for the Rams in 2022 and they’ll be entering the 2023 NFL draft with a variety of needs. On the defensive side of the ball, the cornerback position is an area where the Rams will need to improve before the 2023 campaign begins.

Earlier this offseason, the Rams traded All-Pro Jalen Ramsey to the Miami Dolphins, leaving the team even thinner in the secondary. The current starters at cornerback are Cobie Durant, Robert Rochell, and Derion Kendrick.

Given the obvious need at cornerback, the Rams could target someone like Garrett Williams in the 2023 NFL draft.

Panthers 2023 mock draft 7.0: We want the smoke edition

We’re following the smoke in our latest 2023 mock draft for the Carolina Panthers.

We’re now close enough to the 2023 NFL draft where the all the smoke could actually lead us to the fire. So, let’s follow it in our latest set of projections for the Carolina Panthers.

Here—inspired by some recent rumors, reports and speculation—is our seventh mock draft of the offseason.

Broncos host DB Garrett Williams on top-30 visit

The Broncos are set to host DB Garrett Williams on a top-30 visit this week ahead of the NFL draft.

The Denver Broncos will host Syracuse defensive back Garrett Williams on a top-30 visit this week, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis. NFL teams are allowed to host up to 30 non-local prospects at their facility leading up to the draft each offseason.

Williams (5-10, 192 pounds) tore his ACL last October, but he is on track to be ready in time for the 2023 NFL season. He earned honorable mention All-ACC recognition three times at Syracuse as a play-making defensive back.

A versatile cornerback/safety, Williams totaled 152 tackles (9.5 behind the line), 21 pass breakups, four interceptions, two sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery in three seasons (28 games) with the Orange.

NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein has compared Williams to Emmanuel Moseley, who went undrafted in the 2018 NFL draft. Williams is projected to be a third-round pick in this month’s draft. The Broncos currently hold pick Nos. 67 and 68 overall in the third round.

The 2023 NFL draft will be held in Kansas City from April 27-29.

Syracuse CB Garrett Williams visited Cardinals

The Cardinals had Williams in for a visit. He is coming off a torn ACL but was a three-year starter for Syracuse and a team captain.

The Arizona Cardinals have been connected to a number of cornerbacks in the predraft process. The latest is Syracuse’s Garrett Williams.

According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC-TV in Houston, he has visited a number of teams, including the Cardinals.

He is coming off a torn ACL he suffered last year but is still seen a possibly a Day 2 prospect.

He is 5-foot-10 and 192 pounds. He was selected all-conference twice, a starter for three years and a team captain.
