Notre Dame offensive lineman Tosh Baker out against Northern Illinois

Hope he’s back soon.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. Not long before Notre Dame was set to take the field against Northern Illinois, an additional injury was announced. This one will further hit the depth of an offensive line already depleted by injuries.

[autotag]Tosh Baker[/autotag] has been a reliable offensive lineman for the Irish over the past few seasons, appearing in 38 games. The depth chart released earlier this week had him lined up as the backup to starting left tackle [autotag]Anthonie Knapp[/autotag]. This was to follow up his time on special teams against Texas A&M.

Now, a shoulder injury will keep him out against the Huskies per this report:

Already ruled out for this game were receiver [autotag]Jordan Faison[/autotag], safety [autotag]Tae Johnson[/autotag] and defensive lineman [autotag]Gabriel Rubio[/autotag].

The good news is the Irish still should have more than enough available talent to defeat the Huskies. While this week’s pregame injury report isn’t as clean as last week’s, there isn’t anything too devastating to report here. Let’s hope it stays that way during the game.

Notre Dame defensive lineman Gabriel Rubio suffers foot fracture

Hope we see him again sooner than later

It’s not college football season until somebody gets injured in practice, and we finally have reached that point. Notre Dame has begun its training camp on Wednesday, and already, the effects of that are being felt.

Defensive lineman [autotag]Gabriel Rubio[/autotag] is entering his third full season with the Irish, his fourth overall in South Bend, but he often has been forgotten among his more talented teammates. His quest to stand out more took a significant hit Wednesday because of this development released by the Irish press release team:

At least the injury hasn’t cost Rubio this entire season, as an injury like this easily could. Still, that can’t make this any less frustrating for him or the team.

Since appearing during head coach [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag]’s debut as Irish coach in the Fiesta Bowl, Rubio has been a modest defensive contributor. In 22 games, he has recorded 29 tackles, had four tackles for loss (all coming in 2022), forced one fumble and defended one pass. His stuff is there, and it’s unfortunate that we won’t see it again for a while.

Notre Dame football senior defensive tackle no longer on the roster

An unexpected loss for the Irish

Back in the 2021 recruiting cycle, Notre Dame football landed a big commitment from Missouri defensive end [autotag]Gabriel Rubio[/autotag].

As a 4-star prospect and the No. 17 defensive lineman and 117th overall recruit according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, it looked like Rubio would have a successful Irish career. Multiple injuries have derailed his impact, first an elbow injury in his freshman season, and then a knee injury in the season opener this year against Navy.

With how deep the Irish defensive line has become, Rubio was most likely going to be looked at as a rotation piece, but that looks like it won’t be the case after Notre Dame updated it’s 2024-25 roster on the official website.

Rubio absence was confirmed by a report by 247Sports Tim O’Malley, as he said that the senior was stepping “away from Notre Dame for the semester for personal reasons.”

There was no word in the report about a potential return, so it’s a wait-and-see if Rubio will rejoin the team in the fall.

Notre Dame football updates their availability report ahead of facing Ohio State

Great news for the Irish ahead of their tilt against Ohio State

There is already good news for [autotag]Notre Dame football[/autotag], they will be at full strength for their contest against Ohio State.

The Irish missed two major contributors against Central Michigan last week, linebacker [autotag]JD Bertrand[/autotag] and tight end [autotag]Mitchell Evans[/autotag]. Both of them are ready to go this week, along with defensive tackle [autotag]Gabriel Rubio[/autotag] who has been working his way back from an injury.

Everyone will be needed to perform at a high level against the Buckeyes, as they are one of the top teams in the country. With all players who were nursing any sort of injury ready to go, it looks like it will be all hands on deck for [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] and the Irish.

Marcus Freeman speaks after Notre Dame win over Boston College

The coach sounds off.

Marcus Freeman had little reason to be upset about Notre Dame’s 44-0 win over Boston College. Any coach in his shoes would feel the same way. He indicated such during his postgame news conference. Thanks to the folks at Irish Illustrated for providing these quotes:

Multiple early enrolling freshman have shared what they’ll look like in a Notre Dame uniform, see them all here.

It has become increasingly common for teams to have members of their recruiting classes enroll early and get a head start to their collegiate careers, Notre Dame is no different. This year, Brian Kelly has welcomed in 14 recruits and one transfer, the largest group ever to start their Irish journeys early.

Some of them have gone onto social media and shared their new numbers, as we have already looked into if Lorenzo Styles Jr.’s has anything to do with where he will line up.
