Recapping how Michigan State basketball players performed at NBA Summer League

The NBA Summer League wrapped up this week, and while it wasn’t the most noteworthy summer for Michigan State basketball alumni, a few Spartans did get to show some of what they can do.

Tyson Walker, Joey Hauser, and Malik Hall, while not putting up eye-popping stats, each had their moments that will likely earn them spots in the G-League, or overseas contracts, based on their performances.

Below, you can see their stats:

  • Tyson Walker: 5 games played, 14.8 minutes, 5.4 points, 2.6 assists per game
  • Joey Hauser: 4 games played, 13.5 minutes, 3.0 points, 1.5 rebounds per game
  • Malik Hall: 2 games played, 3.7 minutes, 1.0 points, 0.5 rebounds per game
  • Gabe Brown: No stats recorded

A former Spartan is playing for the Miami Heat in the NBA Summer League.

Add Gabe Brown to the long list of former Spartans playing in the NBA Summer League this year. He is suiting it up for the Miami Heat in this year’s event.

Brown starred for the Spartans from 2018 to 2022 where he recorded 880 points in 124 career games.

Gabe Brown joining Italian team Pallacanestro Varese

After once again showcasing his skill in the NBA’s summer league, Gabe Brown has found a new home in Italy. On Friday, it was announced that Brown will join Pallacanestro Varese of Italy’s Lega Basket Serie A, the top basketball league in Italy.

Brown spent last year with the Toronto Raptors’ G-League affiliate, the Raptors 905. This summer, he played summer league ball with the Phoenix Suns.

Gabe Brown will be playing the 2023 NBA Summer League

Former Michigan State wing Gabe Brown has another chance to put himself in the National Basketball League. Brown will be given the opportunity to play for the Phoenix Suns in the 2023 NBA Summer League. Brown spent this past season playing for Raptors 905 in the NBA G League. He will wear No. 40 when he suits up this summer.

Gabe Brown’s impressive dunking ability has been carried over to the pros

Gabe Brown was known for his incredible dunking ability while at Michigan State and that’s followed him to the pros as well.

The former Spartans forward threw down an impressive between-the-legs dunk in live action on Thursday night. Brown’s dunk came in a Raptors 905 victory over the Cleveland Charge on Thursday.

WATCH: Gabe Brown threw down a poster worthy dunk on Tuesday

Gabe Brown went undrafted after four years with Michigan State, but quickly caught on within the NBA circle with a solid showing in the NBA Summer League.

Now, Brown is playing for the Raptors 905, the G-League affiliate of the Toronto Raptors.

In the 905’s game against the Greensboro Swarm, Brown drove the lane and threw down a monster dunk over a defender.

Raptors sign former Michigan State forward Gabe Brown to Exhibit 10 contract

The former Michigan State forward signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Raptors.

Former Michigan State forward Gabe Brown on Wednesday signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Toronto Raptors, according to Blake Murphy of Sportsnet.

Brown, who went undrafted, was named to the All-Big Ten third team after averaging a career-high 11.6 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists on 38.2% shooting from 3-point range as a senior. He led the Spartans in scoring, 3-pointers (73) and free-throw percentage (89.4).

He played with the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Las Vegas Summer League, averaging 11 points and 3.5 rebounds in four games. He finished his stay by scoring 23 points on 5-of-12 shooting from 3-point range on July 17.

A report surfaced last week stating Brown would sign with the Denver Nuggets, but the 22-year-old opted to join the Raptors. He will likely spend next season with their NBA G League affiliate, the Raptors 905, in an effort to continue his development.
