Jarran Reed and Quandre Diggs both wanted Frank Clark back

The latest to join the back-again club is Frank Clark.

2023 is appropriately the year of the throwback. Not only are the Seahawks embracing their past by wearing their gorgeous green and blue uniforms of the 80s and 90s, they’ve also brought back several former defensive players to help make them a contender again. The latest to join the back-again club is Frank Clark, who signed with the team earlier this week after some free agent flirting with the Broncos.

In theory, Clark will help keep Seattle’s edge rotation running smoothly in the absence of Uchenna Nwosu, who’s been placed on injured reserve after suffering a pectoral injury last week that willr require season-ending surgery.

Even before Nwosu’s injury a reunion made sense. Apparently several of Clark’s new/old teammates were pitching the front office to bring him back. Among them were nose tackle Jarran Reed, who’s having the best season of his career by far.

Free safety Quandre Diggs also shared a message on Twitter that says he was trying to bring Clark back this offseason, as well.

Clark’s old No. 55 is now being worn by defensive end Dre’Mont Jones, so he’s taken No. 57, which he wore at Michigan. Clark is expected to make his second Seahawks debut later today against the Browns.

Former Michigan football EDGE finds new NFL home

Perfect fit! #GoBlue

NFL and Michigan football fans, alike, got accustomed to seeing former Wolverine defensive end Frank Clark dominating off the edge for Kansas City, but he found a new home this offseason, signing with the Denver Broncos. However, that didn’t last long as he found himself sidelined a few weeks into the season.

But it didn’t take long for him to find a new destination and it’s one that was already familiar to the once-Michigan football standout.

On Wednesday, NFL insider Ian Rapoport revealed that Clark has signed with the Seattle Seahawks, the team that initially chose him in the NFL draft.

This is Clark’s ninth year in the league after leaving Michigan football following the 2014 season. His most memorable game for the maize and blue came in 2012 at Ohio State, when he had some disruptive sacks of then-quarterback Braxton Miller.

One of the few to come to Ann Arbor from Cleveland (Ohio) Glenville, Clark was picked in the second round of the 2015 NFL draft by his prodigal team.

Chiefs DT Chris Jones hoped Frank Clark would choose Kansas City over Seattle

The Kansas City Chiefs defensive line has been on a roll lately and grew stronger with the return of veteran Charles Omenihu from his six-game suspension. Last Sunday’s victory over the Los Angeles Chargers was highlighted by the second-half shutout led by defensive pressure on quarterback Justin Herbert.

Chiefs’ defensive tackle and one of the unit’s leaders, Chris Jones, has been dominant since returning from his contract holdout. He has praised the defensive line’s growth but was still hoping to add another pass rusher and champion in Frank Clark. Jones spoke with reporters before Wednesday’s practice about recent reports that Clark was leaning towards signing with the team that drafted him, the Seattle Seahawks.

“Listen, I think that’s a remarkable thing for Frank (Clark). I think he had a lot of success in Seattle. Frank, I love him like a brother. I actually talked to him last night about this,” said Jones. “I wish the best for hopefully, he comes here, but most importantly, I want what’s best for him and his career. Seattle’s the hometown team who drafted him, so it makes sense, and you know I hope it goes well for him.”

Clark was released by the Denver Broncos shortly after the Chiefs defeated them at home in Week 6. He reportedly signed with the Seahawks for the remainder of the season late Wednesday evening.

Updated Seahawks edge depth chart after Frank Clark re-signs

How the return of Frank Clark and the injury to Uchenna Nwosu change Seattle’s depth chart at edge.

The Seahawks are reportedly re-signing defensive end Frank Clark, reuniting with their second-round pick from the 2015 NFL draft. Since Clark was traded to the Chiefs back in 2019 he’s enjoyed a lot of success, including winning two Super Bowls and rising to third all-time in playoff sacks. Now Clark will try to keep Seattle’s up-and-coming edge rotation from dropping off after a season-ending injury to starter Uchenna Nwosu.

Here’s what we believe the team’s depth chart now looks like with Nwosu likely about to go on injured reserve and Clark joining the 53-man roster.

  • Uchenna Nwosu
  • Boye Mafe
  • Darrell Taylor
  • Frank Clark
  • Derick Hall
  • Levi Bell (practice squad)

While adding Clark to the mix should keep things running relatively smooth, this group could still use another weapon. Landing one before the trade deadline next week should still be a priority.

53-man roster tracker: DE Frank Clark returning

Ex-Broncos pass rusher Frank Clark signing with Seahawks

After being cut by the Broncos, Frank Clark is returning to the Seahawks.

Ex-Denver Broncos pass rusher Frank Clark is now expected to sign with the Seattle Seahawks, according to multiple reports.

Clark was a Bronco for about six weeks before Denver released him. Clark came to Denver on a one-year, $5.45 million contract from the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs in the hopes of boosting a flagging pass rush.

Clark only appeared in two games for Denver, where he recorded only two tackles.

The Broncos have not had a lot of success with free agent pass rushers the past few years, signing Clark and ex-Cowboy Randy Gregory. Gregory was benched and then traded to the San Francisco 49ers earlier this month.

Clark looks to get back into the playoff picture with the Seahawks, who are now 4-2.

In the meantime, Denver will turn to young players such as Nik Bonitto, Baron Browning and Jonathan Cooper to kickstart a Vance Joseph-led pass rush.

Seahawks bring DE Frank Clark back to Seattle

Seahawks sign DE Frank Clark, bringing him back to Seattle

It’s the year of reunion for the Seattle Seahawks. During the offseason, they brought back linebacker Bobby Wagner and defensive lineman Jarran Reed. Now, another former Seahawk has found his way back home: defensive end Frank Clark.

After spending four seasons in Kansas City — where he played in three Super Bowls and won two rings — Clark was released by the Chiefs and signed with their AFC West division rivals, the Denver Broncos. However, Clark’s time in the Mile High City lasted all of five games, and he was released. Now, he’s coming back to where his career started.

The Emerald City is where Clark spent the first four years of his career after being selected in the second round of the 2015 NFL draft by the Seahawks. During his final year in Seattle, Clark recorded a career-best 13 sacks.

His first stint with the Seahawks came to a conclusion when the team traded him to the Chiefs for a first-round pick prior to the 2019 season; the deal came after Seattle had franchise-tagged him. Clark never had regular-season sack totals in Kansas City like he did in Seattle, as the best he had was eight in his first season. But where Clark made his hay was in the postseason. His 13.5 playoff sacks are No. 3 all time in NFL history.

Clark comes home to help a Seahawks pass rush that lost LB Uchenna Nwosu for the year. Seattle’s defensive front has gotten after opposing quarterbacks as of late, so Clark will have to be fighting for sacks.

One big question will be answered before Clark takes the field: Since his old No. 55 jersey is being worn by Dre’Mont Jones, what will Clark’s new number be?

Free Agent DE Frank Clark has a rumored physical at the Chiefs facility on Thursday

Free Agent DE Frank Clark has a rumored physical at the Chiefs facility on Thursday

The Kansas City Chiefs appear ready to make some more moves ahead of their Week 7 matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers. Shortly after the team reacquired former wide receiver Mecole Hardman from the New York Jets via trade, rumors quickly circulated about another member of last season’s Super Bowl team arriving at the facility for a possible return.

Since he was released last week by the Denver Broncos, veteran pass rusher Frank Clark has been linked by many critics for a return to the Chiefs. The free-agent defensive end announced via social media while reposting a fan that he would be in Kansas City on Thursday.

Speculation on social media ran rampant when Carrington Harrison, host of 610 Sports Radio show “The Drive,” posted definitively from his source that Clark would be at the team facility getting a physical done. The post was later confirmed by FOX 4 Kansas City Sports Anchor Harold R. Kuntz.

The Chiefs haven’t made an official announcement about Clark, but it appears things are turning toward a reunion. During his tenure, Clark was a highly respected veteran in the Chiefs locker room, with many current players seemingly hopeful for his return to the red and gold.

Sean Payton explains Broncos’ decision to cut Frank Clark

“We just felt it was in the best interest of the club,” Broncos coach Sean Payton said of releasing pass rusher Frank Clark.

After trading outside linebacker Randy Gregory to the 49ers, the Broncos also tried to trade pass rusher Frank Clark, but Denver ended up releasing him after failing to find a trade partner.

Broncos coach Sean Payton was asked about the team’s decision to part ways with Clark on Monday.

“I think it was kind of a win-win for both sides,” Payton said. “Frank was frustrated with the snaps, or lack thereof. We brought him in hoping that we could get more from him.

“In fairness to Frank, I don’t think he ever felt like he was getting enough in a row to play well, and yet, some of the other younger guys were earning those spots. It was difficult. It was a difficult decision, and we just felt it was in the best interest of the club.”

Clark (36 snaps) was buried in the rotation behind Gregory (154), Nik Bonitto (154) and Jonathon Cooper (310). That was partly due to missing time with a hip injury, but Clark was not a key part of the pass rush rotation even when healthy.

With Baron Browning returning soon, Clark’s snaps weren’t going to increase. He’ll now get an opportunity for a fresh start with a new team and Denver will lean on their younger, more productive pass rushers.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid comments on the possibility of DE Frank Clark re-signing with Kansas City

#Chiefs HC Andy Reid comments on the possibility of DE Frank Clark resigning with Kansas City

The Kansas City Chiefs return to work this week following their Thursday Night Football victory over the Denver Broncos. A player noticeably missing from the game was former Chiefs defensive end Frank Clark, who was inactive and eventually released from Denver.

Clark was a vital part of the Chiefs’ Super Bowl runs during his tenure but parted ways with the team during the offseason, opting to sign with the Broncos. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid addressed Clark’s free agency status and the possibility of him returning to the team during his weekly Zoom media press conference on Monday.

“We love Frank.” said Reid, “Right now, we’re just talking through some things there. There are a few things you have to look at when you do that. That’s kind of where we’re at. We haven’t done anything to this point.”

The multiple-time Pro Bowler had five sacks during the 2022 regular season and 2.5 during the postseason. The Chiefs will have veteran Charles Omenihu returning to the team this week after serving his six-game suspension. Clark is an exciting prospect to return, but only time will tell on the franchise’s plans for the rest of the season.

NFL Free Agency: Broncos to release former Seahawks DE Frank Clark

According to Tom Pelissero at NFL Network, the Broncos are officially releasing defensive end Frank Clark today.

A former Seahawks edge rusher is hitting the market.

According to Tom Pelissero at NFL Network, the Broncos are officially releasing defensive end Frank Clark today.

Clark only played two games for Denver before his exit. Russell Wilson is performing far better than last season, but it hasn’t been enough to overcome an atrocious defense. Following last night’s latest loss to the Chiefs, Sean Payton’s Broncos team is now 1-5 on the year and is giving up 33.3 points per game, the most in the league this season.

As for the Seahawks, yes they should pursue Clark, who they originally picked in the second round of the 2015 NFL draft. Last week we pointed to edge as the one spot where an upgrade would make the biggest difference for this team down the stretch.
