Doug Gottlieb didn’t show up for his radio show after losing to a DII school he called ‘Nobody U’

A terrible, no-good, very bad season so far for Doug Gottlieb and UW-Green Bay.

Well, this week just keeps spiraling for Doug Gottlieb. And it’s only Wednesday, folks!

The UW Green Bay head coach and Fox Sports radio host got roasted earlier this week by ESPN’s Adam Schefter after he tried to call out the NFL insider for a report on Michael Vick.

Not only did Schefter specify that his reporting on the story was accurate, but he also took Gottlieb to task for being a terrible basketball coach. Which, you know, that’s pretty fair! At the time, Gottlieb’s team was on a 7-game losing streak. That’s bad. Very bad.

It’s now worse.

UW-Green Bay lost to Division II Michigan Tech University on Wednesday. It was a close game! But, guys. This was not supposed to be a close game.

Gottlieb referred to Michigan Tech as “Nobody U” ahead of the game and insinuated that his team would win by 20.

“I don’t really like the idea of Nobody U coming in here…I always say, ‘What do we learn by playing a game where we win by 20?’,” Gottlieb said. “But there’s a methodology to it, and I’m going to have to adjust moving forward.”

Gottlieb’s team did not lose by 20. They lost by two. The final score was 72-70. That’s so embarrassing. Stack that on top of the Schefter call out and, whew boy, Gottlieb is having himself a week.

Things were so bad that he didn’t even show up to host his own radio show three hours after the game this morning.

The next time we see Gottlieb he might be wearing a paper bag over his head. Things are that bad for him right now.

On one hand, it’s hard to blame him. Losing like that to a team you shouldn’t lose to is never great. On the other hand, you talked all that smack. You’ve got to show up when things don’t go your way.

Either way, I guess this just shows you you can’t hire a hot-take merchant to coach a basketball team. Yikes.

Gus Johnson’s voice shattered while calling Michigan’s awful pick against Ohio State

Gus Johnson’s voice broke!

Michigan-Ohio State turned into one of the sloppiest rivalry games we’ve seen in some time between the two teams on Saturday.

During the game’s fourth quarter, Michigan squandered a chance to break the 10-10 tie when Wolverines QB Davis Warren threw a really bad red-zone interception to Buckeyes defensive end Jack Sawyer.

On the Fox Sports broadcast, Gus Johnson’s voice shattered into a million stunned pieces the second Sawyer snagged the inexplicable end-zone interception.

It was a hysterical moment from Johnson, who was clearly overwhelmed by how much silliness was going on in this game for such a pivotal moment to end in a turnover.

The reactions to this Johnson moment were pretty good, too.

Seahawks crack into Top 10 in Fox Sports’ power rankings

Seahawks crack into Top 10 in Fox Sports’ power rankings

The Seattle Seahawks have found themselves some new momentum as of late. Three weeks ago this team was on life support at 4-5 and in sole possession of last place in the NFC West. Now they are 6-5, in first place, and currently hold the No. 3 seed in the conference.

Seattle’s rise from the ashes has not gone unnoticed nationally

For the Seahawks to go from the basement to the top in a two week stretch is remarkable, and it also showcases how volatile the NFC West has been. Every team is either 6-5 or 5-6, which means at any given week the standings could shift drastically given how well each team does or does not do.

Seattle will look to keep their momentum going with a road game against the New York Jets in Week 13. The Jets are experiencing another disappointing season, and most of the responsibility falls upon Aaron Rodgers and his meddling. It will be the first time the Seahawks have faced Rodgers since the 2021 season.

New York is struggling, but their defense is still stingy and can ruin anyone’s day. Seattle will need to dot their I’s and cross their T’s going into this one.

College football fans were so annoyed by Fox’s frequent commercial breaks during Ohio State-Indiana

Fans had very little patience for all the commercials during the Ohio State-Indiana game.

It’s no secret that there’s a ton of money floating around college football, and broadcasters rely on advertisers, like any other sport.

But sometimes, it seems like the commercial breaks are way too frequent, like Saturday during Fox’s broadcast of the Ohio State-Indiana game. That’s understandably very frustrating when you feel like you’re being inundated with more ads than football.

Of course, there are always a lot of commercial breaks in college football, but — whether or not it’s accurate or just a perception — it certainly felt like there were more than usual in the first half of this game in Columbus. And college football fans were getting annoyed with very little patience for all the breaks.

Among the many complaints from fans seemed to be the sequence of a commercial break, kickoff, commercial break, and it seems like it’s worse if it’s toward the end of a quarter or half. That’s not a new sequence from broadcasters, but it’s still annoying.

College football fans vented their frustrations on Twitter, and it became clear that a lot of them felt like there were more commercial breaks than usual Saturday.

Gus Johnson wants Travis Hunter awarded the Heisman after the WR’s latest incredible catch

Do you agree with Gus Johnson?

Colorado two-way superstar Travis Hunter might have the 2024 Heisman Trophy locked up by now, or at least Fox Sports broadcaster Gus Johnson thinks he should.

After Hunter caught an absolutely astonishing pass in double coverage against visiting Utah on Saturday, Johnson didn’t hide his feelings on how he felt about the catch and the player who pulled it down.

“Travis Hunter! Give him the Heisman now!” Johnson exclaimed to cheers from the home crowd.

Hunter won’t necessarily waltz away with college football’s most prestigious individual award.

However, the wideout/cornerback has the best chance of any non-quarterback to win it since 2020 and former Alabama receiver DeVonta Smith.

UPDATE: Travis Hunter did another amazing Travis Hunter thing with a very impressive rushing touchdown to put the game against Utah away.

Extreme H has signed a three-year broadcast deal with FOX Sports ahead of its debut next year.

The championship – formerly known as Extreme E – will transition to become the world’s first motorsport series exclusively featuring hydrogen fuel cell vehicles in 2025. Extreme E had previously been shown on FS1 and FS2, and the new deal is the continuation of that partnership.

“At FOX, we are committed to delivering innovative, groundbreaking sports content to our viewers, and Extreme E has been a phenomenal example of this,” said Bill Wanger, FOX Sports EVP, head of programming and scheduling. “Extending our relationship into the Extreme H hydrogen series is an exciting step as it reflects the future of motorsport and the possibilities of clean energy. We look forward to continuing to share this innovative and purpose-driven sport with fans across the U.S.”

Extreme H is currently testing its new Pioneer 25 car – which entered production recently – ahead of its race debut next year. How the inaugural season of the hydrogen competition will look is being finalized, with announcements regarding race locations expected early in the new year.

“We’re delighted to continue our incredible collaboration with FOX Sports and expand our relationship to include Extreme H,” said Extreme H managing director Ali Russell. “Hydrogen is the future of clean mobility, and FS1/FS2 will play a vital role in bringing this next-generation motorsport to American fans.

“A special thanks to (FOX Sports president and CEO) Eric Shanks and his continued support of sporting innovation. Together, we will showcase the excitement of hydrogen racing while inspiring action around sustainability and the future of our planet.”

Week 8 broadcast map: Will your station carry Saints vs. Chargers?

The New Orleans Saints’ Week 8 game against the Los Angeles Chargers is a strictly local affair per the 506 Sports broadcast maps:

The New Orleans Saints are back after a 10-day break since losing to the Denver Broncos on “Thursday Night Football.” This week, they square off with another AFC West team, the Los Angeles Chargers. New Orleans opened up Week 7 and the Chargers closed it on Monday night.

The Saints return a much healthier team than last time you saw them. They bring back key pieces, such as Chris Olave and Taysom Hill, to help Spencer Rattler in his third start. Improved health should to improved offense which hopefully leads to breaking a five-game losing streak.

The Saints’ trip to the West Coast results in the Saints first late kickoff of the season. Saints versus Chargers will air on FOX, but will you be able to catch it in your local area? Kickoff is scheduled for 3:05 p.m. CT on FOX.

If you’re in Louisiana or parts of its neighboring states, the answer is yes. The Los Angeles to San Diego area is also showing the game on local channels. Per 506 Sports, only local areas are televising the game. Chargers vs. Saints, unsurprisingly, doesn’t have much national appeal.

Coverage of this week’s game is reflected in green on this map from 506 Sports. See if you’ll catch the broadcast from your local FOX affiliate station:

College football fans were furious that Ohio State-Penn State game was chosen for Fox’s Big Noon Saturday

Some games are meant to be played at night.

College football scheduling is always a balancing act for schools, conferences and TV networks.

For the Big Ten, it gets even more difficult when you have members across multiple time zones and Fox, CBS and NBC all paying billions of dollars to broadcast games. Still, some games are meant to be played at night, and Nov. 2’s game between Ohio State and Penn State at Beaver Stadium is one of those games.

Yet, Fox had different ideas, and fans aren’t happy — for good reason.

The top-4 matchup was selected for next week’s Big Noon Saturday on Fox (and presumably the Big Noon Kickoff pregame show). That means that a game, which typically would have been a White Out under the lights, will be played in the day’s earliest window.

Fox, as the primary rights holder, gets priority in selecting its preferred matchups. It was obviously going to pick Ohio State-Penn State, but Fox opting against using a night-game exception was a mistake here. You want to showcase the sport at its best, and a Penn State White Out at night is top-tier college football. Under the current agreement, the primetime window belongs to NBC.

So while this does mean that Ohio State gets to avoid a night game at Beaver Stadium, the rest of the college football world had plenty to complain about.

This was how Twitter/X reacted

Ken Rosenthal shared a nonsense take about the Dodgers and Mets in the NLCS worthy of criticism

This was SO disappointing.

FOX Sports reporter Ken Rosenthal is one of the most recognizable personalities in baseball media, so this was especially disappointing.

During his broadcast in Game 6 of the NLCS between the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets, the analyst appeared for a segment recapping the series.

The Dodgers won the series, 4-2, and clinched a spot in the World Series against the Yankees. It was a well-earned victory by the Dodgers, despite losing two key games against the Mets. But according to Rosenthal, those wins from New York were merely a part of the master plan from the Dodgers.

Here is more from Rosenthal:

“It took incredible discipline from Roberts not to chase those victories in Game 2 and Game 5. And frankly it was not a great look, effectively conceding postseason games. But should they hold on, the end will justify the means.”

With all due respect to a reporter who has earned the trust of fans around the league after decades covering the sport, that is simply not how this works.

The series went to six games because the Mets won two of them, not because manager Dave Roberts chose “not to chase” victories in Game 2 and Game 5.

Roberts did not intentionally give up any amount of runs early in any of those losses because that is frankly absurd. The Mets scored each of them against a pitching staff that was depleted by injury, which is part of baseball.

The Dodgers did not use their top-tier relievers when already losing, but the damage that was done to get to that point is a credit to the Mets, who had hot bats in those victories.

Los Angeles fairly won the series with a dominant showing, but New York fairly won those two games with no help from Roberts.

A horrible Maryland fumble sparked an all-time call from Fox Sports’ Eric Collins

“What a bad idea!”

Fox Sports broadcaster Eric Collins delivered an instant classic of a call during a disastrous fumble during USC-Maryland on Saturday.

Rather than spike the ball and stop the clock in Trojan territory as time ticked down before halftime, Maryland tried to hurry to the line to get a play off.

The plan backfired spectacularly on the Terrapins, as the ball ricocheted off Maryland quarterback Billy Edwards Jr.’s hands after a long snap and was recovered by USC defensive end Solomon Tuliaupupu.

Collins was so baffled by the decision throughout, and his reaction to the fumble itself will go down in college football history. He sounded like he was watching the worst college football play of all time. It was kind of beautiful to hear how genuinely stunned he was.

“What a bad idea!” is one of the funniest things ever said on a college football broadcast as far as we’re concerned. The fumble was atrocious for Maryland, but the call from Collins is a genuine all-timer.
