Texas Football Recruiting: Evan Stewart names Longhorns in top 13

Four-star WR Evan Stewart announced his top 13 schools on Wednesday. Three other Big 12 schools made the cut, along with top SEC programs.

Wide receiver Evan Stewart announced his top 13 schools on Wednesday night. Texas made the cut along with Alabama, Baylor, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Penn State, TCU, Texas A&M, and USC.

The four-star prospect comes out of Frisco, Texas. Ranked the No. 40 player nationally per the 247Sports composite, Stewart is the No. 5 wide receiver and the No. 8 overall prospect in the state. Stewart’s ability to play inside or outside plus his track level speed is what makes him one of the most sought-after players in the country.

With Steve Sarkisian taking over, Stewart is going to be a crucial piece in Texas’ 2022 class. When five-star quarterback Quinn Ewers was committed to the Longhorns, landing the wide receiver seemed inevitable. Now, there is work for Sarkisian and his staff to do.

According to 247Sports Jay Valai is one of the main recruiters for Stewart on Texas’ side. For Alabama, Holmon Wiggins has been working on the wide receiver, someone Sarkisian is expected to bring over to his staff in Austin per Football Scoop.

After seeing the 2022 class beginning to collapse from under them, Steve Sarkisian has slowly begun to reignite Texas’ chances with top prospects. Stewart will be one of, if not the top target for the Longhorns going forward.

Texas Football Recruiting: Four-star wide receiver puts Longhorns in top eight

Four-star wide receiver J.J. Henry has released his top eight, with UT making the cut. TCU is the only other Big 12 school to make the cut.

One thing Texas has been trying to add to its 2021 class has been another receiver. Specifically an in-state one. Three-stars Jaden Alexis and Casey Cain are the two wideouts in the class, but they are from Florida and Louisiana, respectively.

Four-star J.J. Henry out of McKinney, Texas, could be the answer for the Longhorns. During his junior season, Henry recorded 71 receptions for 1,419 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Texas has made the DFW area standout’s top eight list. TCU is the only other Big 12 school to make the cut, and in-state schools SMU and Texas A&M are still in contention.

Texas Football Recruiting: Longhorns offer the No. 2 player in Illinois

Texas has made another 2022 wide receiver in Tyler Morris. A four-star UT is getting into what seems to be a Big Ten recruiting battle.

Texas has made another offer to a 2022 wide receiver in Tyler Morris. A four-star prospect out of La Grange Park, Illinois, the Longhorns are getting into what seems to be a Big Ten recruiting battle.

As things stand, Michigan leads the way on the 247Sport crystal ball. Two predictions with a confidence level of seven have been inserted for the Wolverines.

Texas is not an unfamiliar foe to taking receivers away fro Michigan, with Tarik Black transferring to Austin this offseason. Now, he is expected to be the main outside receiver for Sam Ehlinger this season.

With top-rated quarterback Quinn Ewers locked into the 2022 class, Texas is going after the top receivers in the country. Four-star Phaizon Wilson has already committed. The Longhorns have offered 16 other blue-chip wide receivers, with Morris being the latest one.

Texas Longhorns Recruiting: Evan Stewart and Armani Winfield give updates on recruitment

Both Evan Stewart and Armani Winfield both gave an update on their recruitments recently with InsideTexas. UT is pushing hard for both WRs.

Since Quinn Ewers committed to Texas, the Southlake Carroll quarterback has been attempting to attract other top prospects to Austin. He and 2022 four-star wide receiver Phaizon Wilson held a throwing session with other top wide receivers Evan Stewart and Armani Winfield.

Both Stewart and Winfield both gave an update on their recruitments recently with InsideTexas. The two talked about which schools are pushing the hardest, where they stand with the Longhorns and their relationships with the coaches.

Beginning with Stewart, the Frisco native is the No. 7 wide receiver in the class. The four-star currently holds 29 offers, including six Big 12 schools.

“Texas, OU, Oregon, Penn State, and Baylor,” Stewart said about who recruit him the most.

Stewart did not say who is currently leading the race but did mention how he is a fan of Texas.

“I like Texas. I like the burnt orange. I like the all-white jerseys. I just like their swag when they come out.”

Despite coaching defensive backs, Jay Valai has been the one recruiting Stewart. Frisco is right in the middle of Valai’s recruiting region. Wide receiver coach Andre Coleman has also been in contact with Stewart but Valai has the strongest relationship.

“Coach (Jay) Valai puts out a good vibe.”

Moving over to Winfield, the four-star was heavily leaning towards Oklahoma. Then, Ewers’ commitment changed it all.

Now, it seems as if it will come down to Texas and two out-of-state schools.

“Texas, most definitely,” said Winfield about who stands out. “Ohio State and Arizona State too. I can really relate to the ASU staff.”

Growing up in the state of Texas, Winfield already knows everything the Longhorns can bring home. Not only on the football field but off as well.

“I like Texas because I grew up in Texas,” Winfield said. “Why not put on for UT? I feel like me growing up in Texas, I can bring my skills, and with the new NIL rules, building that brand. I already have my fanbase right here.”

The No. 12 wide receiver in the country, Winfield also ranks as the No. 12 player in the state of Texas. On the 247Sports composite, the high school junior is a top 75 player, ranking No. 73 overall.

Winfield did not give a timeline on when he would commit but knows how quickly the class could fill up. Thanks to Ewers, players from across the country will want to have their chance to play in Austin.

After landing the elite quarterback, elite pass catchers must follow. Stewart, Wilson, and Winfield can bring exactly that.

Texas loses another four star prospect in the 2020 class

Four-star WR Quentin Johnston had been committed to Texas since Aug. The receiver announced that he will be flipping from Texas to TCU.

The day before the early signing period for the 2020 recruiting class just got worse for Texas. Four-star wide receiver Quentin Johnston had been committed to Texas since the beginning of the season, saying he would be joining the Longhorns on Aug. 17.

The receiver out of Temple High School announced via his Snapchat that he will be flipping from Texas to TCU and signing with the Horned Frogs on Wednesday.

This is now the seventh different recruit the Longhorns have lost in the 2020 class. According to 247Sports, because of Johnston’s flip, Texas no longer has the top-rated class in the Big 12. Oklahoma jumped the Longhorns, who now sit at No. 10 in the national rankings.

Currently without an offensive coordinator, recruits do not know who is going to be their coach come spring practice. As for Johnston, he would not even have had a position coach as Texas fired wide receivers coach Drew Mehringer after the season ended. With Graham Harrell out of the conversation, Tom Herman needs to make a move quickly to fill the offensive coordinator role so recruits do not continue to decommit from Texas.
