NFL moves Browns-Bills to Detroit with massive snowstorm in forecast

The Browns-Bills game will be played in Detroit at Ford Field

The Bills Mafia is losing a home game due to the feared monster snowstorm headed to Buffalo this weekend.

The Browns will head to Detroit to play the Bills on a neutral field Sunday before a forecast calls for anywhere from 3 to 6 feet of snow.

Beginning Thursday night and through Saturday, the Buffalo area is expected to be hit with a lake-effect snowstorm that could drop upward of four feet of snow, The Weather Channel projected Thursday morning. “Major to extreme impacts” are expected to be felt in the region, according to NOAA’s Weather Prediction Center, which advises against travel and driving in the predicted conditions.

The Bills will play two games in Detroit in five days because they are scheduled to face the Lions at Ford Field on Thanksgiving.

DK Metcalf explains why he was carted off to the bathroom at Ford Field

Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf explains why he was carted off to bathroom at Ford Field.

Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf was carted off to the locker room in the fourth quarter of his team’s wild road win over the Lions. Metcalf didn’t suffer an injury but was simply being escorted to the bathroom.

After it was all over, Metcalf told reporters he had a “tummy ache” and that the bathrooms at Ford Field are far from the field. Later on Twitter, he further explained that he wouldn’t have made it to the bathroom in time without the assist:

Metcalf finished with seven catches and 149 yards.

Ford Field home to the NFL’s least expensive beer

The Detroit Lions have the least expensive beer concessions in the NFL

Ford Field is the home of the Detroit Lions. It’s also the home of the least expensive beer in the NFL.

According to American Craft Beer, the Lions are one of three teams tied for the cheapest price for a beer in the NFL. Fans can get a beer for just $5 at Ford Field, as well as the home stadiums for the New York Jets and Atlanta Falcons. Note that the brand and size of beer were not specified. The Lions offer several different beer choices throughout Ford Field.

Interestingly, the Jets and Giants share the same home stadium but the beer costs more than double the price ($11) when attending a Giants game. The home of the Washington Commanders charges the most at $14 for a beer.

Look: Highlights from the Lions Family Fest at Ford Field

The Detroit Lions held an open scrimmage in Ford Field as part of the team’s Family Fest on August 6th

The Detroit Lions held an open practice and scrimmage session in Ford Field on Saturday. More than 18,000 fans showed up for the exhibition, the first chance to catch the Lions in the second year under head coach Dan Campbell for most fans.

The crowd was hyped up, in part thanks to Campbell himself. The players also gave the Ford Field faithful much to cheer about.

Here are some of the top photos of all the action from Lions Family Fest 2022:

Dan Campbell simply cannot stop making apex predator analogies about the Lions

Are we sure Campbell doesn’t think his Lions are actual lions?

In a very serious game like football, Dan Campbell continues to be a breath of fresh air. The earnest Lions coach has already built a reputation for wearing his heart on his sleeve. (For example, his affinity for kneecap-biting, or when he teased a reporter for letting his phone go off in a press conference.)

On Saturday, as the Lions prepared to give the hometown Ford Field crowd a little practice show during camp, Campbell’s energy for the game showed out again. Yes — he made another amazing predator analogy because lions and hyenas and you get it.

I have no way to verify this, but Campbell has to be the first NFL coach in recent memory to really lean into the use of his team’s nickname and mascot. Given how bad the Lions have been for years, someone like Campbell trying to make them a little more intimidating is a bit overdue.

If that means relating the football version of the Lions to their very, very distant cousin kings-of-the-jungle/apex predators, then so be it. Campbell knows what he’s doing. I, for one, hope we hear more about “hyenas” and “hunting prey” and “food chains” in relation to football in the near future.

The Lions finished last in the NFL in ticket revenue for 2021

The Detroit Lions finished last in the NFL in ticket revenue for 2021 in data compiled by Sportico

Detroit’s rough 2021 season on the field was reflected in the revenue the Lions generated from tickets sold.

The latest reported gate revenue compiled by Sportico shows the Lions in dead last in the NFL. Detroit generated just $51 million in gate receipts in the 2021 season, a year where the Lions finished 3-13-1 after opening the season 0-10-1.

Reporter Kurt Badenhausen noted on Twitter that price differences in tickets are the primary driver. As an example, the Raiders finished 25th in total tickets sold but generated the most ticket revenue due to the high prices at their new Allegiant Field in Las Vegas. AFC teams also had an extra home date on the 17-game schedule.

The Lions remain one of the NFL’s cheapest tickets. Fans can attend home games at Ford Field for an average ticket of $91.89, and ownership did not increase the price on season tickets for the 2022 season.

Lions confirm Ford Field will be full with fans in 2021

Fans will be back inside Ford Field in 2021 after being barred in 2020 due to the pandemic

The fans will be back inside Ford Field to watch the new-look Detroit Lions play in person in 2021.

The Lions confirmed that the team will follow the NFL’s recent announcement to allow fans in every seat of every stadium in 2021. Detroit was widely expected to follow the new guidelines but made it official on Monday.

“We have long awaited the moment where we can officially declare we will have 65,000 fans at Ford Field this fall,” said Detroit Lions Team President and CEO Rod Wood said in a media release. “We’ve worked diligently with the NFL, as well looked to federal, state and local guidelines to monitor what’s best for our team, staff and fans. We’re thrilled to be at this point and to welcome One Pride back into the stadium. I can’t say it enough, it hasn’t been the same without them.”

Fans were barred from Ford Field, and most other stadiums around the NFL, in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. The State of Michigan recently rolled back the last of the mandatory restrictions on indoor capacity and social distancing.

Lions earn special ‘Motor City’ boost in Madden 22 game

The newest “Madden” wrinkle gives each team a unique home field attribute boost

Playing as the Detroit Lions in the Motor City will mean something tangible in the latest edition of the popular Madden Football video game series from EA Sports.

Lions players will get a boost in their acceleration attribute when playing home games at Ford Field in Madden 22. The developers have added a unique home field advantage boost for every team, and the Lions get faster acceleration, befitting the team’s home in the stadium named after the maker of the Mustang.

It’s only a slight boost but every little bit helps when you’re trying to beat a trash-talking 11-year-old who plays 12 hours a day.

Every team got its own boost. Here are some of the others released via social media:

Rod Wood hopeful Ford Field will be allowed to have capacity crowds in 2021

The NFL wants fans allowed to capacity in every stadium

Lions team president Rod Wood struck a hopeful tone when asked if the team will be allowed to play in front of a full stadium of fans in 2021. In his media session with reporters on Wednesday, Wood reinforced the statement from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell that the league expects full stadiums for the upcoming season.

“It’s certainly my hope. I’m talking – as I said in the opening comments – to the state. In fact, I had a call with the state between the end of the League meeting and this press conference again today to keep dialogue going.”

After noting the vaccination rates and efforts to increase vaccinations at Ford Field and other venues, Wood offered this hopeful note,

“I think if we can continue on this trend, there’s a pretty good chance we’re going to have large gatherings of fans this fall, whether it’s a full stadium or not. I certainly hope it’s going to be way more than 750 friends and family, that’s for sure.”

COVID-19 protocols in the state of Michigan kept all fans out of Ford Field for the 2020 season. A small number of friends and family were allowed to attend the late-season home dates.

Watch: Lions coaches check out Ford Field for the first time

Watch: Lions coaches check out Ford Field for the first time

In their ongoing movement towards being a more transparent and fan-friendly organization, the Detroit Lions broke out the cameras and captured the reactions of the new coaching staff entering the home of the Lions, Ford Field, for the first time.

It’s not a new experience for coach Campbell, of course. Campbell played for the Lions from 2006-2008 and also visited the stadium as a member of the Dallas Cowboys before that. But it’s his first time as the man responsible with leading the players onto the field.

It’s a good look at the new coaches and how they interact. Owner Sheila Ford Hamp is with them, as is team president Rod Wood. The cameras also follow the staff to the Henry Ford Museum.

Thanks to the Lions for peeling back the curtain a little more on the folks who run the team and a chance to get a better feel for them as people, not just names.
