Jaguars vs. Texans: Friday injury reports and game statuses

The Jaguars and Texans have deemed a combined six players questionable and five players out of their Week 4, AFC South matchup in Houston.

Jacksonville will be without starting tight end Evan Engram for a third consecutive game, and starting linebacker Foyesade Oluokun for the first of what is expected to be several weeks.

Additionally, three starting Jaguars — wide receiver Gabe Davis, linebacker Devin Lloyd and safety Darnell Savage Jr. — enter the weekend questionable. So does Savage’s backup, Jarrian Jones.

Houston similarly won’t have a pair of starters available Sunday, wide receiver Tank Dell and safety Jimmie Ward. Starting running back Joe Mixon enters the game questionable while his backup, Dameon Pierce, is out.

However, star Texans receiver Nico Collins intends to play after joining the injury report on Thursday.

Texans reportedly sign former Jaguars DL Folorunso Fatukasi

Folorunso Fatukasi is joining one of the Jaguars’ divisional rivals.

The Houston Texans are signing former Jacksonville Jaguars defensive lineman Folorunso “Foley” Fatukasi to a one-year deal, according to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 in Houston.

Fatukasi, 29, joined the Jaguars on a three-year, $30 million deal in the 2022 offseason after beginning his career with the New York Jets. He only played two years in Jacksonville before the team released him last week in a move to save just over $3.5 million in salary cap space.

In his two seasons with the Jaguars, Fatukasi largely disappointed as he dealt with injuries and recorded only five tackles for loss in 30 games with the team. While he earned a grade above 80 from PFF in two of his seasons with the Jets, Fatukasi received grades of 42.5 and 61.0 in his time with the Jaguars.

Now he’ll join the Texans, a team that earned a spot in the playoffs last season. Houston allowed the second fewest rushing yards per carry (3.5) in 2023, but the fifth most rushing touchdowns (19).

As a player who was released rather than leaving in free agency on an expired contract, the Jaguars are ineligible to receive a compensatory draft pick for the departure of Fatukasi.

Social media reacts to Jaguars cutting Foley Fatukasi on his birthday

A couple hours after the Jaguars wished Foley Fatukasi a happy birthday, they decided to release him.

At 11:19 a.m. ET on Monday, the official Twitter account of the Jacksonville Jaguars wished a happy birthday to defensive lineman Folorunso “Foley” Fatukasi.

At 1:43 p.m., ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler broke the news that the Jaguars are releasing Fatukasi to clear some cap space.

The awkward timing isn’t really anyone’s fault. The Jaguars’ social media team isn’t privy to the moves general manager Trent Baalke is going to make or when he’s planning on making them. And Baalke definitely isn’t refreshing social media to find the most pain-free time to announce news.

Still, the brutal birthday present for Fatukasi didn’t go unnoticed by the Internet. Here’s a sampling of the reaction to the snafu:

Jaguars reportedly release DL Folorunso Fatukasi to save $3.5 million

The Jaguars reportedly cut ties with Folorunso Fatukasi on Monday to save some cap space.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are releasing defensive lineman Folorunso “Foley” Fatukasi, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

Fatukasi, who turned 29 on Monday, signed a three-year, $30 million contract with the Jaguars during the 2022 offseason. His deal was restructured last year and will now carry dead cap charges through the 2027 season. By releasing the lineman, Jacksonville will save $3,518,588 in cap space, but eat $9,269,334 in 2024.

In his two seasons with the Jaguars, Fatukasi dealt with a few injuries and was mostly ineffective. While he earned PFF grades above 80 in two of his four seasons with the New York Jets, Fatukasi received a 42.5 grade in his first year with the Jaguars and a 61.0 grade in 2023.

Fatukasi recorded 1.5 sacks and five tackles for loss in his 30 games played with the Jaguars.

Other defensive linemen for the Jaguars include Roy Robertson-Harris, DaVon Hamilton, Adam Gotsis, and 2023 fourth-round pick Tyler Lacy. The team also has pass rushers Josh Allen and Travon Walker, who frequently line up with their hand on the ground.

8 moves the Jaguars could make to create cap space in 2024

The Jaguars may need to create cap space if they hope to make moves this offseason.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are projected to enter the 2024 offseason with much more salary cap space than they did when they were over the limit heading into the 2023 offseason.

This time around, the Jaguars have more room to maneuver, but there are also some moves that could eat up that space quickly. For one, the team seems likely to franchise tag Josh Allen, which would guarantee the pass rusher about $22 million for the 2024 season.

If Jacksonville hopes to make that move along with any other additions or extensions in the 2024 offseason, the team simply has to find a way to create more room.

Fortunately for the Jaguars there are ways to make that happen. Some of the decisions will be relatively easy, others will be a much tougher call.

Baltimore visits the Jacksonville Jaguars (8-5) on Sunday night in what could be a potential playoff preview.

Jacksonville will look to rebound after suffering their second loss in six days, as quarterback Trevor Lawrence finished 28 of 50 for 257 yards and three interceptions.

With preparation underway for both teams, here are 10 Jaguars to watch for in Week 15.

11 Jaguars players limited, none sit out Thursday practice

The Jaguars had everyone on the practice field Thursday, although 11 were limited.

The Jacksonville Jaguars had full attendance at their Thursday practice with defensive backs Tyson Campbell and Andre Cisco back on the field after sitting out Wednesday.

It wasn’t exactly a healthy day of work for the team ahead of a Week 15 game against the Baltimore Ravens, though. Jacksonville listed 11 players as limited, including Campbell and Cisco.

During a Week 14 loss to the Cleveland Browns, the Jaguars were without Folorunso Fatukasi, Tre Herndon, Walker Little, and Brenton Strange. All four of those players are still limited in practice, but appear well on track to return to the field sooner rather than later.

Quarterbacks Trevor Lawrence and C.J. Beathard again appeared on the injury report, but both were full participants.

Like Wednesday, the Ravens had an exceedingly brief injury report with only one player limited Thursday.

Baltimore safety Kyle Hamilton was wearing a brace on his injured left knee in practice and told reporters Wednesday that his status for Week 15 is still “up in the air.”

Jaguars list 12 players on lengthy Wednesday injury report

The Jaguars suddenly have a lengthy injury report after a rough Monday night.

A Jacksonville Jaguars team that has been fortunate to avoid injuries for nearly two whole seasons is suddenly facing an avalanche of them heading into Week 14.

On Wednesday, the Jaguars listed 12 players on their first injury report before a road game against the Cleveland Browns.

Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence suffered what looked like a gruesome ankle injury Monday night, but said Wednesday that he’s feeling “a lot better” and he’s “trying to progress towards hopefully playing” against the Browns.

Backup quarterback C.J. Beathard is also on the injury report, but said that there’s no concern about his availability Sunday.

While Jacksonville has a lengthy report, the Browns’ was even longer Wednesday with 16 players listed.

Three of the Browns’ players who didn’t practice were “not injury related” rest days and offensive lineman Geron Christian practiced in full, but that still leaves another 12 who were out or limited. That group included receiver Amari Cooper who was out due to a concussion and ribs injury.
