We asked Bills Wire five questions about their team and Monday’s showdown with the Broncos.
Ahead of the Denver Broncos’ game against the Buffalo Bills, we asked Nick Wojton of Bills Wire five questions about Buffalo and Monday’s matchup. Check out our questions and Nick’s answers below!
1) How has Von Miller looked since he returned from injury, and what kind of role does he have in Buffalo this season?
Nick: Unfortunately (probably for both Denver and Buffalo), Von isn’t at 100 percent yet. He’s played in about 20-25 snaps per game. After every outing, it’s the ever-optimistic Von saying it’s “the best he’s felt” but his snap counts haven’t increased yet. He also missed a key tackle late against the Bengals which would’ve gotten the Bills the ball back with a chance to comeback… which was a real bummer. Having said all that, he’s less than a year removed from a serious knee injury. Slow and steady.
2) Do the Bills have any weaknesses the Broncos might be able to exploit?
Nick: Certainly on defense. Their defensive line is still sound with Miller not yet at 100 percent. At linebacker, Matt Milano going down has killed the Bills. Buffalo can’t cover tight ends without him. Safeties Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer are showing some signs of losing a step, too. Hyde (neck) isn’t going to play regardless due to injury.
3) Name an underrated Buffalo player that Denver fans should be aware of this week.
Nick: Even though we just crapped on the linebackers a bit, Terrel Bernard has been a lot better than most expected. The problem is that he can’t play two positions and whoever fills in for Milano (Tyrel Dodson, Dorain Willams) hasn’t played well at all. And of course as the 2023 Bills season has gone, Bernard is listed as questionable himself. He’s in the concussion protocol and was limited in practice all week but he can get out there, it’d be a big boost. Bernard isn’t quite at the level of Tremaine Edmunds who left during free agency, but he has the potential.
4) What should we (and fantasy football managers) expect the Bills’ backfield rotation to look like Monday and going forward?
Nick: This is about as tough a question as you could ask, but we’ll take a swing at it. James Cook is the No. 1, but not in the red zone. He’ll lose out touches there to Latavius Murray there but signs are pointing toward Leonard Fournette taking those away. Murray hasn’t been a good short-yardage guy. That’s why Lenny is in Buffalo now. I’d guess he makes his Bills debut against the Broncos.
5) What’s your prediction for Sunday — who wins and why?
Nick: The Bills are up-and-down, but aren’t at home this season. Technically, they’re 4-1 at “home.” Their lone loss in that category was in London. With this in Orchard Park and Buffalo still finding ways to bounce back, I’ll take the Bills. But the Broncos should cover. I’ll go Bills 27-24.
