Falcons Week 12 Fantasy Forecast: Matt Ryan will feast on Bucs defense

The Falcons will look to keep things rolling on offense when they take on a Buccaneers defense that’s allowing an NFL-worst 31.3 points per game in Week 12.

Falcons wide receiver Calvin Ridley stole the show in Week 11, catching all eight of his targets for 143 yards and a touchdown during the team’s win over the Panthers.

Atlanta will look to keep things rolling on offense in Week 12 when it goes up against a Buccaneers defense that’s allowing an NFL-worst 31.3 points per game.

Let’s examine the Falcons’ Week 12 fantasy football projections, focusing on ESPN’s standard league scoring system.

QB: Matt Ryan

Chuck Cook-USA TODAY Sports

ESPN Projection: 21.2 points — 2 pass TDs, 306 pass yards, 1 INT, 9 rush yards

Season Total: 172.2 points — 18 pass TDs, 2,663 pass yards, 9 INTs, 1 rush TD, 77 rush yards

Week 12 Analysis: Ryan moved into tenth place on the NFL’s all-time passing yards list in Week 11, and is averaging 295.8 yards per game this season. While he’s still not 100 percent as he recovers from a nagging ankle injury, Ryan is facing a Tampa Bay defense that’s giving up 290.3 passing yards per game — the second-highest average in the league. Expect some big-time numbers from Ryan, who is ESPN’s No. 2 rated QB for Week 12.

This is not the week to put Terry McLaurin into your fantasy football starting lineup

McLaurin got off to a blazing start this year, but his ensuing drop-off, plus a matchup against Darius Slay, will make him a non-factory.

After starting the season on a remarkable tear and thrusting himself into fantasy football relevance, Washington Redskins rookie wide receiver Terry McLaurin has regressed to the mean as of late.

It’s not by anything that he can control, but rather the offense that he plays in went 16-straight quarters without scoring a touchdown, and struggled to move the ball downfield. After scoring 93.8 points through the first five games of the season — an average of 18.8 ppg — McLaurin has totaled just 27.8 points in the four games since — an average of 6.9 ppg.

Unfortunately for his fantasy owners, it doesn’t look like this week’s game against the Detroit Lions is one in which he’ll prosper, either. With a head-to-head matchup against Detroit’s All-Pro cornerback, Darius Slay, there is a good chance that McLaurin is shadowed all afternoon, and he will likely be made a non-factor on offense. This is tough for both McLaurin and Dwayne Haskins, who will lose his No. 1 option on offense.

In order for the Redskins to get any offense going, they will likely need to rely on the running back duo coming out of the backfield, Adrian Peterson and Derrius Guice. With his first career touchdown scored last week, Guice proved to be a great value for the few fantasy owners who were brave (or crazy) enough to start him, and if you’re feeling lucky, he might just do so again.

However, don’t start McLaurin this week and consider yourself brave. With a matchup against one of the best cover corners in the NFL, a move like that would be crazy.

Fantasy sits and starts for Texans-Colts on Thursday night

There are fantasy football points to be had as the Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts face off in Week 12. Don’t miss out.

The Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts will kickoff Week 12 in the NFL with a Thursday night encounter at NRG Stadium.

For some fantasy owners, this is the first chance to get into the action of the week. Here are some recommended sits and starts from the matchup.

starts

Colts QB Jacoby Brissett — The former New England Patriots quarterback managed to throw for four touchdown passes in the Week 7 showdown at Lucas Oil Stadium. He gets the best protection in the league with 2.7 seconds in the pocket. Brissett is 4-0 against the Texans as a starter. Let Brissett set the tone for Week 12.

Texans RB Carlos Hyde — Houston’s run game averages 5.0 yards per carry, the third-best in the NFL, and Hyde has picked up the eighth-most first downs in the league with 38, same number as Christian McCaffrey and Leonard Fournette. The Texans will give Hyde his chances to make an impact, even when the game is no longer consequential as seen with last week’s 41-yard run in an already decided game at Baltimore.

Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins — The two-time All-Pro is second in the NFL with 75 catches. The Colts defense knows the ball is headed his way, but Hopkins finds ways to get the job done. Hopkins has caught at least seven passes in his last six games, posting two 100-yard performances in that span. Where it’s a liability to start Hopkins is his yards per reception is down to 7.2, the second-lowest of his career.

sits

Colts RB Jonathan Williams — While Williams had a 100-yard performance last week against the Jacksonville Jaguars, it is unlikely he will produce such an effort for the second straight week, even against Houston’s run defense, which gives up 4.6 yards per carry, tied with New England for the ninth-highest in the league. As the feature back, Williams will have to prove he can shine.

Colts WR T.Y. Hilton — While the Texans killer historically has strong games against Houston, even inside NRG Stadium, he is questionable coming off of a short week. Though the Texans expect him to play, there are questions as to how effective he can be. Stay away for this week.

Texans defense/special teams — The Texans defense generally has trouble with the Colts. It is reasonable to assume the Texans can still win the game, even with a poor defensive and special teams performance folks should steer clear of in fantasy. However, there are better defensive and special teams efforts to be had on Sunday, not Thursday night.

Colts RB Jonathan Williams expected to start vs. Texans

Jonathan Williams is expected to start the game.

The Indianapolis Colts will be without their starting running back for the Thursday night matchup against the Houston Texans, but it appears Jonathan Williams will get the start in the backfield.

Filling in for the regular starter in Marlon Mack, who has a fractured hand, Williams was stellar in relief during the Week 11 win against the Jaguars. He went off taking 13 carries for 116 yards while adding a 31-yard reception.

Despite other backs like Nyehim Hines and Jordan Wilkins likely being in the mix, the Colts are expected to treat Williams as the starter against the Texans, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Williams has been mostly a depth piece for the Colts backfield—filling in when someone goes down. When Wilkins was inactive in Week 11, Williams took advantage of his touches when Mack went out.

For fantasy football purposes, this should give managers more confidence in putting him in the starting lineup. However, a committee approach could still be utilized by Frank Reich, especially with the aforementioned Wilkins returning from an ankle injury.

It shouldn’t be expected for Williams to see 20 or more carries. That would be nice, but the Colts are contingent on spreading the wealth in the backfield. Still, there will be plenty of chances for Williams to break off a big play.

The matchup for Williams is a beautiful one. The Texans are allowing 6.6 yards per carry since J.J. Watt was lost for the season.

How the Colts truly utilize their backfield on this Thursday night remains to be seen, but it appears Williams will be the one to lead the unit at the start of the game.

Lions Wire Fantasy Football Weekly: Week 12 Preview

Lions Wire’s weekly examination of what happened in fantasy football last week and a look forward at what to watch in the upcoming week.

When players say any given Sunday or next man up, they mean it. That is the life of an NFL player as well as a fantasy football owner. These were some of the names at the top of the fantasy football leaderboard for this past week in the NFL including Jonathon Williams (RB Colts), Gus Edwards (RB Ravens), Michael Gallup (WR Cowboys), and John Brown (WR Bills). Not the names you would predict by any means to start the week.

These types of situations often come due to injury and opportunity. Two keys things to look at as we head into Week 12 of the fantasy football schedule.

Where are the injuries to key players and who will those opportunities go to if the top player can’t go? The main one to keep your eye on right now is the injury to Marlon Mack (RB Colts). Who will fill that role at running back? I’ve always really liked Nyheim Hines (RB Colts) as a player who can catch a lot of passes out of the backfield, so keep your eye on him to see if he gets more opportunities.

Same with Michael Gallup (WR Cowboys) or Randall Cobb (WR Cowboys) if Amari Cooper (WR Cowboys) continues to battle injuries. Not a ton of other major injuries occurred in Week 11, so that bodes well for your fantasy football rosters heading into Week 12.

One other major thing to consider this week are the teams on a bye. No Patrick Mahomes (QB Chiefs) and their other top skill players. The Chargers are off as well, though not many of their players would normally start in your fantasy lineup anyway. The Vikings and Cardinals have the week to recover as well and we all know the Dalvin Cook (RB Vikings) owners will be scrambling to fill that void.

Lions at Washington fantasy focus

Washington is in a rebuild, but they do have some good young talent. Dwayne Haskins (QB), Darius Guice (RB), and Terry McLaurin (WR) just to name a few. Their record (1-9) is not good. The playing surface at their stadium is not good. Once again though due to the Detroit Lions injuries and porous defense, this could be another close game with fantasy points on both sides for the taking.

The Lions moved the ball pretty well against the Cowboys in Week 11, but their passing game is nowhere near as explosive as it was with Matthew Stafford at quarterback. Kenny Golladay and T.J. Hockenson saw a total of two passes last week. I would expect both of those players to be featured against Washington. Bo Scarbrough came out of nowhere to start at running back and appeared to run the ball well — we will see if he can continue that success in Washington this week.

Now What

This is the final week where bye weeks will impact your fantasy team, and also only a week or two until your playoffs likely start.

If you are in a standard league where your finish doesn’t impact your draft place in 2020 as much, try to win every game you can. If you’re in a dynasty league, try to be first or last. Nothing wrong with putting that Toilet Bowl Trophy on your mantel or office desk.

Here are a few quick fantasy football predictions for you. Deshaun Watson (QB Texans) will have a huge bounce-back game against the Colts on Thursday night football, T.J. Hockenson (TE Lions) will make a big impact for the Detroit Lions, Miles Sanders (RB Eagles) will continue to look more and more like a really solid fantasy running back, and here is the shocker of the day — Lamar Jackson will make some crazy play with his feet on Monday Night Football that will be talked about all week.

Only a few more weeks of fantasy football, so enjoy it. Look ahead if you already have a playoff spot locked up and plan for those big matchups. If you have had a rough season, it happens to the best of us — there is always 2020 and you always want to have your eye on young talent that can help your roster long-term.

That’s all for this week’s Fantasy Football Weekly, good luck everyone, I’m expecting the readers of this article to bring home some major hardware this year in their leagues.

Fantasy football: 5 sleepers to start, 5 starters to bench in Week 12

Five sleepers to start and five starters to bench in fantasy football Week 12.

It’s crunch time in fantasy football.

A little scouting and you can avoid a crucial late-season loss or do just enough to cross the finish line with a win this week. We’ve got you covered with a quick scouting report to help you out.

Here are five sleepers to start and five starters you’ve got to sit in fantasy football Week 12:

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan. Credit: Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports
Starts

QB Matt Ryan

After two decent games on the road from him the past two weeks, Matt Ryan and the Falcons return home. There he’s going to meet the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. There’s a few reasons to go with Ryan in Week 12. First, his team is on an unforeseen two-game winning streak. That could continue because of him. The Falcons’ backfield is banged up, but the Bucs also sport the second-best run defense in the NFL. In addition, they have the second-worst pass defense. Do the math.

RB Phillip Lindsay

Phillip Lindsay has been steady as she goes over the past few weeks. He’s had outings of 59, 92, and 67 yards in his past three games, respectively, with a touchdown coming in the 92-yard outing. But having said that, the Bills defense is a formidable one, but not against the run. The third-best defense overall in Buffalo is actually 18th against the run and only slowed down their opponent last week because the Dolphins are the Dolphins.

Start/bench list: Week 12

The final week of bye week blues is upon us, and fantasy football gamers have plenty of fine matchups to utilize.

Week 12 fantasy football studs, duds and sleepers: Time to bench Tom Brady

Our starts and sits for Week 12.

Week 12 of the 2019 NFL season is here, with four teams (the Chiefs, Vikings, Chargers and Cardinals) off with byes.

As always, we’re here to help with your weekly decisions with our fantasy lineup advice. Each week, we give you the studs (players with plus matchups due to the defense they’re facing or their team situation), duds (players with tougher matchups or who are in muddled roster situations at the moment) and sleepers (a player you might consider starting who could be in for a big week).

Here are the names we’ve got for Week 12, and as we always say, good luck!!

Studs

QB Matt Ryan, Atlanta Falcons

The Bucs are adept at stopping the run (see below), but they’re second-worst at passing yards allowed per game. So Matty Ice is going to spend a lot of time throwing the ball and having a big day.

RBs Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt, Cleveland Browns

They’re going to run all day on the Miami Dolphins, and although game script might not favor Hunt, who has 17 targets and 13 receptions in his return from suspension, maybe he’ll get some more playing time if it’s a blowout.

WR D.J. Chark, Jacksonville Jaguars

It’s not because the Titans are the worst team at stopping the pass. It’s because this guy deserves to be in the top-10 at his position this season every week. Incredible.

TE Jacob Hollister, Seattle Seahawks

He’s averaged eight targets and six catches in his past two games and found paydirt three times in that span. Given the struggles at the position, he’s absolutely a TE1 now.

Duds

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

QB Tom Brady, New England Patriots

You can’t love what you saw last week against the Eagles, and if you look at the larger picture, it’s worrisome. He hasn’t totaled 300 yards in his past four contests and has more than one touchdown just once in that same stretch. Dallas’s pass defense is solid, too.

RB Brian Hill, Atlanta Falcons

The Bucs are so good against the run and Hill was awful last week. Not a great combination.

WR Amari Cooper, Dallas Cowboys

It’s not just the matchup against the Patriots. It sounds like he’s not 100 percent healthy after playing just 55 percent of the snaps last week.

TE Gerald Everett, Los Angeles Rams

He’s hit or miss. One week he’s a star, the next he’s catching one pass. And the Ravens’ defense is REALLY good, especially against tight ends.

Sleepers

QB Jacoby Brissett, Indianapolis Colts

The Texans aren’t very good against the pass (fourth-worst) and don’t have much of a pass rush (22 sacks total). So I’ll start him this week.

RB Bo Scarbrough, Detroit Lions

Am I really going to trust a Lions running back? That’s why he’s a sleeper. But I also would start an RB against the Redskins, who have given up the fifth-most rushing yards per contest in 2019.

WR Jamison Crowder, New York Jets

The Raiders present a great matchup and Crowder has scored in each of his last three games.

TE Ryan Griffin, New York Jets

The Raiders give up the third-most fantasy points to tight ends and Griffin’s coming off a 109-yard, one touchdown performance in Week 11.
