Panthers are heavy favorites vs. Eagles in Week 5 expert picks

The experts, as expected, are keen on Carolina in Week 5. How many of the 32 picks did the Panthers take up?

The Carolina Panthers didn’t provide the fortune to favor the bold last week, as five of the 33 experts to side with the black and blue in Week 4 came away in the red.

Now, the pressure’s on. If the Panthers don’t defend their home turf against the 1-3 Philadelphia Eagles in Week 5, they’ll be disappointing more than just a handful of these forecasters.

USA TODAY: Panthers

All seven experts side with the Panthers, with point differentials on their score predictions ranging from two points to 13.

ESPN: Panthers

Nine of the 10 ESPNers have taken Carolina. Seth Wickersham is the lone ranger here, siding with Philly.

Pro Football Talk: Panthers

Mike Florio and Chris Simms both have it for the home team. Florio says 31-24 and Simms goes 28-17 for their final scores.

CBS Sports: Panthers

The Panthers sweep up this aisle as well. Eight-for-eight at CBS.

MMQB: Panthers

And don’t forget this aisle either. All five folks at Sports Illustrated‘s MMQB go Carolina.

In total 31 of the 32 picks land with the Panthers.

Texas vs. Oklahoma: Who the experts are picking to win

“I’m hammering this as my lock of the week”

In less than 24 hours, Texas and Oklahoma will face off in the Cotton Bowl for a crucial Big 12 matchup. Continue reading “Texas vs. Oklahoma: Who the experts are picking to win”

Colts vs. Dolphins: NFL experts make Week 4 picks

The experts around the league give their picks in Week 4 between the Colts and Dolphins.

The Indianapolis Colts (0-3) aren’t going to be favored by many entering the Week 4 matchup with the Miami Dolphins (1-2) given the injuries and issues they’ve been dealing with to open the season.

As Vegas sees the Colts as underdogs for this road matchup at Hard Rock Stadium down in South Beach, this one seems to be a closer prediction than the previous weeks.

Here’s how some of the experts around the league are viewing the outcome of this Week 4 bout:

Expert Pick Score (if applicable)
Nate Davis (USA TODAY) Dolphins 24-20
Mike Jones (USA TODAY) Dolphins 23-20
Jarrett Bell (USA TODAY) Dolphins 24-20
Mike Clay (ESPN) Dolphins N/A
Gregg Rosenthall (NFL Network) Dolphins 21-17
Bill Bender (Sporting News) Colts 26-23
Dave Richard (CBS Sports) Colts N/A
Pete Prisco (CBS Sports) Dolphins 26-20
Jori Epstein (USA TODAY) Dolphins 27-23
Albert Breer (Sports Illustrated) Dolphins N/A
Bleacher Report Dolphins 23-21

Apparently, the Colts are only scoring 20 points this week. The majority of experts over at Tallysight have the Dolphins winning this matchup at the time of this writing.

The Colts haven’t looked like a team that can put together a full game for a win. The offense is playing like one of the worst in the league. The defense is frustratingly inconsistent. The injuries continue to pile on.

If there is one game the Colts can pull off the upset, it may be this one. They know Jacoby Brissett better than anyone in the league, including the team that is starting him on Sunday.

But entering the weekend, the experts around the league aren’t seeing an end to the winning streak in Week 4.

Who are the experts picking in the battle of the Tigers?

Who do the experts think will win on Saturday?

Not sure if you are aware or not but the LSU Tigers are having a pretty big game this weekend. After starting 1-0 in SEC play, the Bayou Bengals look to make it 2-0 when they host the Auburn Tigers.

Last season was less than memorable after Auburn handed LSU their worst loss in the series. The home team wants to hand out some retribution for the second week in a row.

LSU has the home-field advantage in this game. They haven’t lost at home to Auburn since that very forgettable season in 1999. The Tigers of LSU own the all-time series, 31-23-1.

We look at who the experts are picking for his game.

Who the experts are taking in Washington vs. Bills

There aren’t many people giving #WashingtonFootball much of a chance to upset the Bills on Sunday.

The Washington Football Team enters their Week 3 game at Buffalo as a rather significant underdog. The Bills opened this week as 7.5-point favorites, and that line has remained the same throughout the week.

Both teams enter Sunday’s game with identical 1-1 records. Washington lost its home opener to the Chargers before bouncing back in Week 2 against the Giants.

The Bills struggled in a Week 1 loss to the Steelers before trouncing the Dolphins in Week 2.

So, who do the experts think is winning this battle?

According to the folks at NFL Pickwatch, 93% of the experts picked the Bills to defeat Washington straight up. Against the spread, 67% of the experts still went with Buffalo.

Washington is 0-2 against the spread this season, while the Bills are 1-1.

Buffalo is the smart favorite in this one. Washington has struggled through two weeks, despite winning in Week 2. The defense, which is supposed to be the team’s strength, has struggled in both games.

Can Washington pull off the upset? It will undoubtedly need a strong performance from its defense to move to 2-1 on the season.

Colts vs. Titans: NFL experts make Week 3 picks

NFL experts make their picks for the Week 3 matchup between the Colts and Titans.

The Indianapolis Colts (0-2) are once again underdogs entering a matchup but this time, it comes against a divisional counterpart in the form of the Tennessee Titans (1-1) in Week 3.

The matchup at Nissan Stadium will be a big one for both teams. The Colts are looking to avoid an 0-3 start, which would essentially sink their season and give the Titans an early advantage in the tiebreaker.

Here’s how the experts around the league feel about this divisional matchup:

Expert Pick Score (if applicable)
Nate Davis (USA TODAY) Titans 27-13
Mike Jones (USA TODAY) Titans 25-18
Jarrett Bell (USA TODAY) Titans 30-23
Mike Clay (ESPN) Titans N/A
Gregg Rosenthall (NFL Network) Titans 30-21
Bill Bender (Sporting News) Colts 30-27
Dave Richard (CBS Sports) Titans N/A
Pete Prisco (CBS Sports) Titans 27-14
Mike Moraitis (Titans Wire)
Albert Breer (Sports Illustrated) Titans N/A
Bleacher Report Titans 28-21

Over at Tallysight, the Titans are favored in 95% of the picks as of this writing. Given the injury concerns surrounding the Colts between quarterback Carson Wentz and right tackle Braden Smith, it’s easy to see why the media is siding with the Titans.

It still isn’t clear if Wentz will play and who the quarterback will be if he does wind up missing the game. Regardless, it wouldn’t be good news for the offense if either Jacob Eason or Brett Hundley had to start the game.

The Titans, meanwhile, seem healthy and ready to go into this matchup looking to take a commanding lead in the division.

Experts pick Panthers to pounce all over Texans in Week 3

Only three of 33 experts picked the Panthers last week against the Saints. That number will probably be going up for the Thursday nighter in Houston.

The Carolina Panthers turned these picks upside down last week, defying the 30-3 tally in favor of the New Orleans Saints with a resounding 26-7 win.

So have the experts learned their lesson for tonight’s contest against the Houston Texans? Well, in a word, yes . . .

ESPN: Panthers

All 11 analysts say it’s Carolina.

Pro Football Talk: Panthers

A pair of 10-point predictions, as Mike Florio has it 24-14 and Chris Simms at 27-17, both in favor of the Panthers.

MMQB: Panthers

More unanimous love for Carolina. Five-for-five at SI.

CBS Sports: Panthers

Hey, guess what? All eight experts from CBS put it down on the Panthers.

That’s a squeaky clean sweep, folks. 26-of-26.

Now, if you’ve been watching the game long enough, you’ll know clean sweeps can sometimes be dangerous. The football gods seemingly strike these predictions down just because they’re all in favor of one team.

But we won’t have to worry about that, right? It’s not like there’s a recent history of Thursday night games being completely wacky or anything . . .

Expert Picks for LSU-Mississippi State, can the Tigers get revenge from 2020?

Will we get a repeat of 2020 or a new ending? Expert picks for Saturday’s LSU-Mississippi State game.

Big matchup coming on Saturday from Starkville, Mississippi. The LSU Tigers go on the road to open SEC play against Mississippi State for the second-straight year. This time around there are two different quarterbacks under center with Max Johnson and Will Rogers. We compared the two passers in our ‘Tale of the Tape’.

Neither team has much of a running game as they are ranked No. 13 and No. 14 in the SEC. LSU is ranked No. 120 in the country, while the Bulldogs have the worst rushing offense in the country at No. 130. Can either team get the run game going to help out the offense? Odds are that it would be LSU that would likely be the one to do it.

[lawrence-related id=25338]

Currently, the LSU Tigers are favored in this game by 2.5 according to Tipico Sportsbook. We check in with the experts for this one, who wins on Saturday?

Kerry Miller, Bleacher Report

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

Who’s ready for a repeat of that stunning start to SEC play last fall? Neither of these teams runs the ball well and both defenses have done well to defend the run, so it wouldn’t be the least bit surprising if Max Johnson and Will Rogers combine for something like 110 pass attempts in this one. And if it plays out that way, I like Mississippi State at home in a four-hour barn-burner. – Miller

Everyone’s going to be into the offensive side, but the defenses are going to be the difference.

Neither one will be dominant – both passing games will work – but Mississippi State will do a better job of controlling the ball and the tempo, and the defensive side will take over when it needs to.

Neither team will run well, and at home, Mississippi State’s short-range passing attack will be a bit more effective. – Fiutak

Mississippi State 26, LSU 24

Consensus: LSU wins

CBS Sports Simulations

Stephen Lew-USA TODAY Sports

LSU hasn’t been tested since its Week 1 loss to UCLA, but the model sees the Tigers as the more balanced team in this matchup. The simulations show Mike Leach’s squad barely cracking 50 yards of rushing, while LSU goes for over 100 on the ground. With both teams easily topping 300 yards of passing, that’s a big difference in the sides. LSU takes this one by seven points in the simulations, covering almost 60 percent of the time. – CBS Sports on how LSU wins

Colts vs. Rams: NFL experts make Week 2 picks

NFL experts make their Week 2 picks for the matchup between the Colts and Rams.

The Indianapolis Colts (0-1) will play host to the Los Angeles Rams (1-0) for a Week 2 matchup at Lucas Oil Stadium on Sunday.

After dropping the first game of the season at home, the Colts will be looking to bounce back in a tough matchup against a legit Rams team. The Colts enter this matchup as 3.5-point home underdogs.

Here’s how some of the experts around the league view the Week 2 matchup:

Expert Pick Score (if applicable)
Nate Davis (USA TODAY) Rams 27-23
Mike Jones (USA TODAY) Rams 30-24
Jarrett Bell (USA TODAY) Rams 27-20
Mike Clay (ESPN) Rams N/A
Gregg Rosenthall (NFL Network) Rams 30-23
Bill Bender (Sporting News) Colts 28-26
Dave Richard (CBS Sports) Rams N/A
Pete Prisco (CBS Sports) Rams 28-20
Cam DaSilva (Rams Wire) Rams 24-17
Albert Breer (Sports Illustrated) Rams N/A
Bleacher Report Rams 27-21

Over at Tallysight, 98% of the analysts are siding with the Rams in this one. It shouldn’t really come as a surprise. The Colts are extremely short-handed already and the Rams have elite players at impact positions.

The Colts will be without right tackle Braden Smith and cornerback Xavier Rhodes, both of which were ruled out Friday due to injuries. Another seven players are listed as questionable on the final injury report.

The Rams, meanwhile, are looking to extend their record to 2-0 with their new quarterback in Matthew Stafford, who balled out during their prime-time opener.

This was a tough matchup for the Colts to win before the injuries started and now, their chances become even slimmer on Sunday.

Everyone is picking LSU to win over Central Michigan but how close will the game be?

Just over 48 hours to kick off on Saturday night in Death Valley. The LSU Tigers look to improve to 2-1 before they open SEC play on the road against Mississippi State in Starkville.

During week one of the season, Saturday’s opponent gave Missouri a scare at home. Can the Tigers avoid a scare and put this game away relatively early on? Head coach Ed Orgeron hopes going up-tempo can put the offense on the attack and put points on the board.
