College Wire editor’s Week 8 picks for the SEC

Our network editors pick each SEC game in Week 8.

Week 7 in the SEC felt like chaos with the Alabama-Tennesse game taking center stage. This week the only game featuring ranked opponents will once again involve the Tide as they host No. 24 Mississippi State.

After their last-second victory, Tennessee gets a breather as they host in-state foe, UT Martin in the early window this week. The No. 7 Ole Miss Rebels look to keep their perfect season alive as they head to the Bayou to tangle with LSU. The Rebels haven’t won in Baton Rouge since 2008.

Vanderbilt looks to win their first SEC game since 2019, coincidentally, that win came against Missouri, 21-14. Can the Tigers avoid another letdown? The final game on the slate features Texas A&M coming off their open date to face South Carolina, a team they have never lost to.

Auburn, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, and Kentucky are on their open week. As we do each week, the SEC editors on the College Wire network make their predictions for each conference game on the schedule.

There aren’t many NFL experts picking the Saints over the Cardinals

Between injuries and inconsistent play, there aren’t many NFL experts picking the Saints over the Cardinals in Week 7:

Between injuries and inconsistent play, there aren’t many NFL experts picking the New Orleans Saints over the Arizona Cardinals in Week 7. According to surveying conducted by NFL Pickwatch, just 30% of the football cognoscenti like the Saints to pull off a midweek road win in Arizona. A staggering 70% majority is coming in for the Cardinals. It reflects the odds at Tipico Sportsbook, where New Orleans is a 2.5-point underdog.

But, come on. The Cardinals have the same 2-4 record as the Saints. They’re going to be without their starting center and left guard, as well as their leading receiver Marquise Brown. All of their hopes hinge on DeAndre Hopkins returning from a six-week suspension to play like his old self and get their offense back on track. They haven’t done anything well.

There’s plenty of reasons to doubt the Saints this week. They’re missing two of their top three receivers, their left guard, their best cornerback, and several important backups and role players. But if they can just get steady quarterback play and funnel touches to Alvin Kamara, it might be enough against a poor Cardinals defense. We’ll see how it shakes out.

NFL Week 6 picks: Almost all experts are taking Rams to top Panthers

The vast majority of experts are taking the Rams to win on Sunday, but only about half are picking them to cover the spread

No team is favored by more points in Week 6 than the Los Angeles Rams against the Carolina Panthers. The spread sits at -9.5 in favor of the Rams, making them heavy favorites at home against the 1-4 Panthers.

Experts also like the Rams to win this game, snapping their two-game losing streak. According to NFL Pick Watch, 97% of experts are taking Los Angeles to win on Sunday. Only the Buccaneers (98%) have a larger contingent of experts backing them in Week 6.

Not nearly as many pundits are picking the Rams to cover the 9.5-point spread, however. Only 51% are taking the Rams to win by at least 10 points. That’s still a good number considering how big the spread is.

The Rams are just 1-4 against the spread this season, only covering against the Cardinals in Week 3. Otherwise, they’ve lost three games by at least 10 points each and had a narrow win against the Falcons.

Colts vs. Jaguars: NFL experts make Week 6 picks

The NFL experts make their Week 6 picks for the Colts and Jaguars.

The Indianapolis Colts (2-2-1) will host the Jacksonville Jaguars (2-3) at Lucas Oil Stadium for a Week 6 matchup.

Though the Colts got blown out on the road in Week 2 in the first meeting between these two teams, Vegas has Indy slightly favored in this matchup entering the weekend.

Here’s how the experts view this Week 6 matchup:

Expert Pick Score (if applicable)
Nate Davis (USA TODAY) Colts 23-20
Jarrett Bell (USA TODAY) Jaguars 20-19
Vic Tafur (The Athletic) Jaguars
Mike Clay (ESPN) Jaguars
Dan Graziano (ESPN) Colts
Gregg Rosenthal (NFL Network) Jaguars 20-17
Bill Bender (Sporting News) Jaguars 19-17
Pete Prisco (CBS Sports) Jaguars 24-17
Adam Stites (Jaguars Wire) Jaguars 24-13
Jess Root (Sportsbook Wire) Colts
Cam DaSilva (Sportsbook Wire) Jaguars
Bleacher Report Colts 26-21

Over at Tallysight, 64% of the experts are taking the Jaguars to win this game. Considering the 24-0 blowout in Week 2, it’s not all that surprising.

The Colts have to figure out their issues on the offensive line, and it’s likely another change is on the way for Week 6. With Bernhard Raimann getting another start at left tackle—and likely holding the job for the foreseeable future—we may see Matt Pryor move to right guard and Braden Smith back to right tackle.

If that combination somehow turns things around, the Colts will have a much better chance at winning this game. However, those issues along the offensive line are so deficient, it’s difficult to have confidence the offense will turn it around in the course of one week.

This matchup, though, seems to be shaping up to be a much closer outcome than what transpired in Week 2.

Week 6 picks: Who the experts are taking in Vikings vs Dolphins

The majority of experts believe the Vikings will get the win on Sunday

The Minnesota Vikings are set to take on the Miami Dolphins at noon on Sunday afternoon.

The game has experts across the industry split. While the Vikings have played inconsistent football, the Dolphins will be starting a seventh-round rookie quarterback in Skylar Thompson.

Will the Vikings improve to 5-1 before the bye week? The experts certainly think so.

Texas vs. Iowa State: Who the experts are predicting to win

Expert Picks: Does Auburn stun Ole Miss on Saturday?

One staff writer believes there is an upset in the making.

The Auburn Tigers (3-3, 1-2) head to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, Mississippi, on Saturday to battle No. 9 Ole Miss Rebels (6-0, 3-0). The Tigers have owned this series all-time 35-10, and are winners of six consecutive matchups. This SEC West showdown is crucial for both teams, but for very different reasons.

For the visitors, this game is all about getting off the snide and preserving their head coach Bryan Harsin for at least one more game. In three SEC matchups, the Tigers have been outscored 77-44 and barely escaped with a win over Missouri after they fumbled away the overtime win. A win over Ole Miss would even up their SEC record and put Auburn within striking distance of earning bowl eligibility.

For Ole Miss, Lane Kiffin and the Rebels are looking to keep pace with the top teams in the SEC West. They survived a scare against Vanderbilt, where the Rebels needed a second-half surge to overcome the early deficit. Kiffin is 0-2 against Auburn but perhaps the third time is the charm.

As kickoff draws closer, the Auburn Wire staff make their predictions for this game and the rest of the SEC slate.

NFL Week 5 picks: Who the experts are taking in Commanders vs. Titans

Do the experts go with the Commanders in this one?

Who are the experts taking in Sunday’s Week 5 matchup between the Washington Commanders [1-3] and the Tennessee Titans [2-2]?

According to NFL Pickwatch, 82% of the expert pickers, who come from USA TODAY, ESPN, NFL.com, Sporting News, The Athletic and a host of other outlets, are rolling with the Titans in this game.

Look, we aren’t surprised the majority of those picking games are going with Tennessee, but 82% of the pickers? Both teams enter this game with a slew of injuries. The Titans are a different team offensively without star wideout A.J. Brown but could have their best passing game of the season against Washington’s struggling cornerbacks.

However, the Tennessee defense isn’t the same unit from a year ago. The Commanders will have opportunities to put points on the board against the Titans. Will they? That’s another story.

This game is winnable for Washington, which has a short week. The Commanders travel to Chicago to play the Bears for Thursday Night Football.
