Where is ESPN ‘College GameDay’ setting up on the Texas campus?

Full fan guide to ESPN College GameDay’s location and schedule on the UT campus for the Georgia Bulldogs at Texas Longhorns game.

ESPN’s “College GameDay” is back on the UT Campus.

This will be the ninth time “College GameDay” has been to Austin. However, the last few times GameDay was in town, Texas lost. In fact, 2009 is the last time Texas won with the pregame show in town.

It was announced Thursday on “The Pat McAfee Show” that the world’s No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler will serve as the guest picker.

In the past, “College GameDay” has set up at different locations around the Texas campus. On Saturday, the show will set up in the absolute heart of the Forty Acres. The stage will be set up just behind the Littlefield Fountain with the South Mall leading to the UT Tower as the backdrop. Fans will fill that corridor up the hill to the tower.

GameDay stalwart Lee Corso has missed the last two weeks of the show due to health concerns, but the network says Corso will be on hand in Austin.

Host Rece Davis and Corso will be joined by Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard, Pat McAfee and Nick Saban. College football reporter Pete Thamel, college football betting analyst ‘Stanford Steve’ Coughlin and reporters Jen Lada and Jess Sims round out the crew.

In addition to Scheffler, ESPN said special guests on the show will be Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian, Longhorns legend Vince Young, Olympic gold medalist Gabby Thomas and comedian Tony Hinchcliffe.

ESPN is calling this “Texas Takeover” Weekend. In addition to “College GameDay” at the Georgia-Texas game, the network is carrying the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix. The premier F1 race in America will be held at the Circuit of The Americas outside of Austin on Sunday.

Fans at GameDay will get photo opportunities with a custom Texas-wrapped Formula 1 car. The first 200 fans will receive free breakfast tacos to start the morning and will have the chance to win prizes, including exclusive GameDay T-shirts and a chance to win a photo at the iconic desk with the show’s analysts.

ABC/ESPN will roll out the A team announcing crew for the game. Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit will be in the booth at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. Holly Rowe and Katie George will provide coverage.

“College GameDay” wasn’t in Austin last season, but the show was in the state capital twice in 2022, once for the Alabama game and once for TCU. Texas lost both games.

Both times in 2022, the show set up on the LBJ Lawn between DKR and the LBJ Library. For the Alabama game, because of the early start time, ESPN moved to a desk inside the stadium for the final picks segment when they were joined by Glenn Powell as the guest picker.

A few weeks later, for the TCU game, the picks were made on the LBJ Lawn. Jordan Spieth acted as the guest picker.

Where is ESPN’s College GameDay in Week 8 of the 2024 season? Here’s the answer.

Where is GameDay in Week 8 of 2024? Here’s the answer.

If you’re a college football fan, of course you’re aware that every Saturday morning is a big deal: that’s because you’re sitting down to watch ESPN’s College GameDay as you get ready for that day’s games.

It’s always fun to see where the show travels to during the season, with rabid fanbases designing wild signs to root on their team and troll others, and to see who Lee Corso will pick with which headgear to put on if he’s there.

If you’re here, you’re probably wondering: Where is GameDay this week in 2024?

With Week 7 kicking off on Saturday, the show will be in Austin, Texas for Georgia and Texas, a matchup of two amazing teams — The Bulldogs are No. 5 in the nation and the Longhorns are No. 1.

Enjoy!

Here are other questions we can answer:

Will Lee Corso be at College GameDay on Saturday?

We’re not sure yet.

Who will be the guest picker this week on College GameDay?

Scottie Scheffler!

Texas Ex Scottie Scheffler will act as College GameDay guest picker

Former Texas Longhorn golfer Scottie Scheffler has had one of the best and craziest years in sports history, now he can add ESPN College GameDay Guest Picker to the list.

We had a feeling. In our ‘Ranking possible College GameDay guest pickers‘ article, we ranked former Texas Longhorns golfer Scottie Scheffler as the No. 1 candidate.

Now we know. Scheffler will indeed act as the College GameDay guest picker. ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit announced Thursday on the Pat McAfee Show that Scottie Scheffler, the No. 1-ranked golfer in the world, will get the honors.

Scheffler has had one of the best and one of the craziest years in golf history. Maybe sports history.

This all happened in 2024:
March 10: Won Arnold Palmer Invitational
March 17: Won The Players Championship
April 14: Won The Masters
April 22: Won the RBC Heritage
May 8: First child is born — a son named Bennett
May 17: Arrested outside of the PGA Championship
May 17: Made Tee Time and shot a 5-under 66
May 19: Finished 8th at the PGA Championship
May 29: Charges against Scheffler dropped
June 9: Won Memorial Tournament
June 23: Won the Travelers Championship
July 11: Won the ESPY for Best Golfer
Aug. 4: Won Olympic Gold Medal at the 2024 Paris Games
Sept. 1: Won the Tour Championship
Sept. 1: Won the 2024 FedEx Cup
Sept. 1: Total earnings $64,228,357
Oct. 17: Named ESPN College GameDay guest picker

https://twitter.com/CollegeGameDay/status/1846994976023978101

If it was a movie script it’d be rejected as absurdly unrealistic. He won his second Players. He won his second Masters. He had a kid. Arrested nine days later outside the gates of a major championship … that he was playing in. Still played well. Charges dropped then a hot run that saw four more wins, the Tour Championship and the FedEx cup all in one day.

Nine wins, one major, one baby, one arrest, the FedEx cup and $62 million … in winnings. Oh, and a gold medal. Only the third American to do it. Oh, and an ESPY. That doesn’t count what he’s made on endorsements. Or, for that matter, what he’s lost in attorney fees.

Scheffler became the only golfer in history to win the The Players Championship, the Masters Tournament and the Tour Championship in the same season this year. Tiger never did it. Jack never did it.

Now he comes home to Austin as the celebrity face of the University, which is kind of what the guest picker has become.

https://twitter.com/TexasMGolf/status/1847048570899140730

If Tiger Woods had ever had the year Scottie just had we’d still be talking about it. But Scheffler’s calm ‘every-man’ demeanor and look probably hurts in the Q-Rating. But it does help win golf tournaments. It will be great to see Scheffler in this kind of fun setting and getting rewarded for making history.

Texas has had a lot of incredible golfers. Crenshaw, Kite, Leonard, Spieth. But this mild mannered guy might be the best of the bunch.

Scheffler has been on ESPN College GameDay in the past. The Texas golf team presented him with the Jack Nicklaus Award. Glen Powell was the guest picker that day. Texas lost to Alabama 20-19 after Quinn Ewers was injured.

‘College GameDay’ announces Week 8 location

ESPN’s “College GameDay” has decided between the Georgia at Texas game and Alabama at Tennessee game for Week 8

ESPN’s “College GameDay” announced where it will be for Week 8 of the 2024 college football season. The GameDay team plans to attend the Georgia Bulldogs at Texas Longhorns game.

Georgia is ranked No. 4 in the US LBM Coaches Poll. Texas checks in at No. 1. The Georgia-Texas game is college football’s top game in a strong Week 8 schedule. GameDay’s other top option was the Alabama at Tennessee game. Other top games in Week 8 include Michigan at Illinois, Miami at Louisville, LSU at Arkansas and Oklahoma State at BYU.

This will be GameDay’s second Georgia game this year. GameDay went to the Georgia at Alabama game. ESPN’s top college football pregame show also attended the Texas at Michigan game, so this will be the second time GameDay has been to a Texas game in 2024.

GameDay will begin coverage at 9 a.m. ET on Saturday, Oct. 19. Last week, GameDay attended Oregon’s dramatic win over Ohio State.

This will be a hectic weekend in Austin, Texas. Austin is hosting the Georgia at Texas game on Oct. 19 and a Formula 1 race from Oct. 18-20.

Nick Saban, Kirk Herbstreit, Rece Davis, Desmond Howard and Pat McAfee serve as college football analysts for GameDay. Later in the week, we will know who is the guest picker for the Georgia-Texas game.

[lawrence-auto-related count=2]

There’s a decent chance GameDay will attend two other Georgia football games this fall (at Ole Miss and vs. Tennessee). However, Ole Miss already has two losses and Tennessee has not looked as good in recent weeks, so this could be Georgia’s final appearance on GameDay during the regular season.

Who will be College GameDay’s celebrity guest picker for Georgia at Texas?

ESPN’s College GameDay crew will be partying in Austin for Texas vs. Georgia, which celebrity will be chosen as guest picker?

The ESPN College GameDay crew is headed to Austin, Texas to take in an epic SEC matchup between the Texas Longhorns and Georgia Bulldogs.

Texas and Georgia are both top five teams in the country and, barring a collapse, will both be in the 12-team College Football Playoff – making this one of the best regular season games of the season.

GameDay has been to Austin nine previous times, although the Longhorns have not won while Gameday was in town since 2009, when they defeated Texas Tech.

There is no shortage of celebrities with ties to the University of Texas, and below is a look at just some of the many candidates to join the GameDay crew on Saturday in Austin:

Previous guest pickers in Austin

Although it’s not unprecedented to bring back the same celebrity guest picker, with so many different options to represent the Longhorns it does seem unlikely we will see any of the three previous celebrities this weekend.

That would rule out Lance Armstrong, who was the picker back in 2009 when Texas beat Texas Tech, as well as more recent options: Actor Matthew McConaughey (2019 in a Texas loss to LSU), actor Glen Powell (2022 in a loss to Alabama) and golf champion Jordan Spieth (2022 in a loss to TCU).

Former Texas athletes

There are plenty of ‘obvious’ choices the GameDay crew could pick, but former Longhorns quarterback Vince Young feels like the most obvious of those candidates. Young was the star of Texas’ most recent national championship, and with the Longhorns in a great spot to win another, bringing him back is the perfect choice.

Another former Texas quarterback – Colt McCoy – is a strong candidate as well after hanging up his cleats following a 13-year NFL career. McCoy covers the Big Ten for NBC, however, making this a bit tricker to pull off.

The Phoenix Suns have preseason games on Thursday, October 17th and again the following Wednesday the 23rd, which gives NBA superstar and former Longhorn Kevin Durant plenty of time to make his way to Austin. Durant and Phoenix are playing San Antonio at the Moody Center this season, so a return to campus this month makes plenty of sense.

Bringing back legends from a previous era is a staple of College GameDay, and the great Earl Campbell would be an awesome selection. The first Longhorn to win the Heisman, Campbell is a true icon and a fantastic choice for GameDay.

Other Options

Actors have been a prominent part of GameDay’s history, including last week when Kaitlin Olson represented the University of Oregon – while promoting her new show High Potential. Could ESPN do the same thing this week with alumni Jon Hamm – who has a new show Landman he’d certainly like to promote?

Renee Zellweger went to Texas and earned a degree in English Literature, crediting the school with getting her interested in acting. The star actress – who broke through with her performance in football movie Jerry Maguire – could be a fun candidate if ESPN wanted to go with back-to-back actresses.

Or how about a musician? Reba McEntire, the Queen of Country, may be from Oklahoma, but she’s shown love for the Longhorns in the past and would bring some charm and fun to the GameDay crew.

ESPN ‘College GameDay’ crew makes picks for Oregon Ducks vs. Ohio State Buckeyes

Picks are in for the ESPN College GameDay crew.

We’ve seen big games played inside Autzen Stadium before, but never like this.

For the first time ever, a top-five matchup will take place in Eugene between the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes and No. 3 Oregon Ducks. It will be a game that sets up a king in the Big Ten Conference going forward and puts someone in a poll position to make it to the College Football Playoff.

Both Oregon and Ohio State have looked dominant so far this year, but neither team has played anyone nearly as good as they will on Saturday. It will be a great litmus test for how strong these championship contenders are at this point in the season.

ESPN’s “College GameDay” was in town for the big-time matchup, setting up shop in the Memorial Quad on campus early on Saturday morning and getting the party started.

ESPN’s “College GameDay” crew made its picks for Saturday’s winner in the Autzen. Here’s how they selected:

Desmond Howard: Oregon
Pat McAfee: Oregon
Nick Saban: Ohio State
Guest Picker Kaitlin Olson: Oregon
Lee Corso (Absent): Ohio State
Kirk Herbstreit: Ohio State

The game between Oregon and Ohio State kicks off at 4:30 p.m. PT on Fox in Eugene, Oregon.

Best ‘College GameDay’ signs from No. 3 Oregon Ducks vs. No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes

The sign game was on point in Eugene at ESPN’s College GameDay ahead of Oregon vs. Ohio State.

The showdown between No. 2 Ohio State and No. 3 Oregon on Saturday was a big event on its own, but when ESPN’s “College GameDay” came to town, it became even bigger.

“GameDay” is among the most beloved pregame shows in sports. It drew thousands of fans to the Memorial Quad in Eugene in the early hours of the morning to celebrate, party and cheer on their team.

Eugene has long been known as one of the best locations for “GameDay” in the show’s history, but leading up to Saturday’s show, host Rece Davis issued a challenge to Oregon fans that they needed to show up and reclaim their title as the best location on the West Coast.

Show up, they did.

It was an electric atmosphere from start to finish, and we saw some of the best “GameDay” signs from Duck fans that we have in a while. Here’s a look at some of the best digs and jokes that we saw in sign form on Saturday:

Kirk Herbstreit to leave ESPN’s ‘College GameDay’ early in Week 7

Kirk Herbstreit is leaving “College GameDay” early during their Week 7 trip to Oregon

ESPN’s “College GameDay” crew is set to head to Eugene, Oregon, to see the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes play the No. 3 Oregon Ducks, but one of their members won’t be there for the whole day.

Kirk Herbstreit will be leaving early from College GameDay to broadcast the game between the No. 1 Texas Longhorns and No. 18 Oklahoma Sooners. He’ll be alongside Chris Fowler as color commentator for the Red River Rivalry.

The game starts at 3:30 p.m. ET, and given the flight to Eugene, Oregon, to Dallas, Texas, is about three and a half hours, he’ll have to leave early from College GameDay about an hour early.

Herbstreit and the rest of College GameDay have logged a ton of flight miles this year, heating from Ireland to Texas to Michigan and eventually to Oregon. They’ll more than likely be heading down south again in Week 8, to either attend the Georgia-Texas matchup or the Alabama-Tennessee matchup.

Rece Davis issues challenge to Oregon Ducks crowd for ESPN’s College GameDay on Saturday

Oregon Duck fans, the ball is in your court. Time to show up on Saturday morning.

Anyone who has tuned into ‘ESPN’s College GameDay’ on a regular basis over the years knows that one of the many places that stands out apart from the rest in terms of an electric atmosphere is Eugene, Oregon.

‘College GameDay’ has been to Eugene 11 times before, and it’s been established as one of the top locations in the show’s history, with the likes of Lee Corso and Kirk Herbstreit claiming on record that it is their favorite place to take the show.

This weekend, ahead of the No. 3 Oregon Ducks vs. No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes showdown, ‘GameDay’ will be in Eugene once again. But the show host, Rece Davis, says that the fans in Eugene have lost their claim as the best location on the West Coast since the show was here last in 2022.

[lawrence-related id=67132]

Last week in Berkley ahead of the game between the California Golden Bears and Miami Hurricanes, Davis claims that the Cal students took the cake and now hold the crown as Best of the West.

“We always say we can have a great show without a great crowd, but we don’t want to,” Davis said on Friday. “It’s that we can have a better one if the crowd becomes another member, another character in the show. And I don’t know that in my 10 years of doing this, that anybody has done it better than Cal last week.”

[lawrence-related id=67221]

It was the first time that Cal ever hosted ‘GameDay,’ and the fans showed up in force with some of the best signs that we’ve ever seen on the show.

Davis knows that saying that acts as a challenge for Oregon to reclaim the top spot, but for him, even the Washington school still stands ahead of the Ducks.

“If Oregon wants to take that as a challenge, go ahead,” Davis continued. “Because I’ve always said, even though my favorite show of all time is Washington State — because of the 15-year crusade to get the show there — in the Pacific Northwest and on the West Coast, Washington has been phenomenal. I’ll sing a few bars of “Bow Down to Washington,” unless you want to bow down to Washington, and unless you want to acquiesce on the West Coast that the whole damn world is Bear Territory, Oregon needs to reclaim its place tomorrow morning.”

Challenge accepted.

[lawrence-related id=67224]

The show starts at 6 a.m. local time on the West Coast, and while it will still be dark and cold outside when cameras start rolling, students are sure to show out in the Memorial Quad on campus hours before the program gets rolling, well-lubricated and ready to get loud.

There will be no Lee Corso on the show, unfortunately, but that’s no excuse for Duck fans not to do what they do best and reclaim the ‘College GameDay’ fanbase award on the West Coast. With the first-ever top-five matchup in Autzen Stadium on deck, anything less than that would be disappointing.

“As far as the crowds, I’ve always said that Oregon, by and large, has been the standard bearer on the West Coast,” Davis said. “Cal might have taken the title last week. Now Oregon gets a chance to answer. So let’s see what they’ve got.”

Take a nap now, students. You’re needed in the morning.

Brent Venables discusses Red River Rivalry with ‘College GameDay’s’ Kirk Herbstreit

Brent Venables tells ESPN “College GameDay’s” Kirk Herbstreit why the Red River Rivalry is so unique.

The Oklahoma Sooners are just days away from squaring off against their arch rivals, the Texas Longhorns, in the 120th playing of the [autotag]Red River Rivalry[/autotag] matchup.

There’s plenty of hype surrounding this year’s game, as the top-ranked ‘Horns are 5-0 and looking to stay unbeaten. OU, on the other hand, is 4-1 with a loss against Tennessee. They’re dealing with major injury concerns and big problems on offense, but a stout defense and a true freshman quarterback won’t be going down without a fight.

ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit, who will be on the call for Saturday’s game, sat down with Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables to discuss what makes this game so special.

“Everybody in that stadium is invested,” Venables said. “There’s nothing like it … You have a group of people that are incredibly excited, they think that their encouragement in that moment is gonna be the difference, and when you’re winning, there’s a lot of energy that you feel.”

Herbstreit also asked Venables about the iconic close finishes that this game seems to always produce.

“Everything that goes into it and preparation leading up to it,” Venables said. “Nine of the last ten years have come down to, essentially, the last series of the game.”

When asked about the Golden Hat trophy, given to the game’s winner each year, Venables smiled as he answered.

“This is pride,” Venables said. “This means a lot to a lot of people. The past players, the past coaches, certainly to the current team. We know that for three hours when we go down to Dallas, Texas and compete in this game, everybody can take whatever problems you got, man you forget about them. You lose yourself in three and a half hours in the Red River Rivalry game and the joy that it can bring so many people.”

The Sooners and the Longhorns will square off again at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. The game will broadcast on ABC.
