Report: Warriors’ James Wiseman and Eric Paschall ruled out vs. Rockets due to health and safety protocols

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, James Wiseman and Eric Paschall have been ruled out against the Rockets due to health and safety protocols.

On Wednesday against the Houston Rockets, the Golden State Warriors will be without James Wiseman and Eric Paschall. According to Shams Charania and Anthony Slater of The Athletic, the pair of Warriors are ruled out for the contest due to the NBA’s health and safety protocols.

Along with both players, members from Golden State’s assistant coaching staff and developmental staff will not be on the bench due to contract tracing, per Slater

This will be both Wiseman and Paschall’s second stint with the league’s health and safety protocols. Wiseman missed all of Golden State’s training camp and preseason due to reportedly testing positive for COVID-19 at the start of camp. Paschall missed the Warriors’ contest against the Indiana Pacers due to health and safety protocols. However, Paschall was able to return quickly after the test coming back as a false positive.

Without Paschall and Wiseman, Golden State’s second unit will be missing two key contributors. In 37 games, Paschall is averaging 9.5 points on 49.3% shooting from the field with 3.2 rebounds in 17.4 minutes off the bench. During his rookie season, Wiseman is tallying 11.8 points on 52.6% shooting from the field with 6.0 boards and 1.0 blocks per contest.

There’s still no timetable set for when Paschall and Wiseman can return to the bench.

With both players in the frontcourt out, the Warriors could turn to Juan Toscano-Anderson and Alen Smaialgic off the bench. Starters Draymond Green and Kevon Looney could have to play a bigger while the Warriors deal with a thin depth chart.

Golden State is slated to open a three-game road trip on Tuesday in Houston at 5 p.m. PT.

Warriors’ Eric Paschall, James Wiseman placed into safety protocols

Paschall and Wiseman will not play on Wednesday versus the Rockets after entering the health and safety protocols.

Golden State Warriors forward Eric Paschall and rookie James Wiseman have been reportedly placed into the health and safety protocols, according to Shams Charania and Anthony Slater of The Athletic.

The two will each not play on Wednesday versus the Houston Rockets.

Paschall and Wiseman will reportedly be entered into the health and safety protocols because of contact tracing. The team will also have a couple of assistant coaches join the two players and they will not be able to return until they are cleared by the NBA.

Of course, Wiseman was previously in the health and safety protocols after reportedly testing positive for the coronavirus during training camp. He missed several practices ahead of the start of the season and was forced to learn on the fly to begin the year.

Wiseman missed a mandatory COVID-19 test over the All-Star break and was unable to practice with the Warriors prior to the start of the second half of the season as a result. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr benched Wiseman for the first three quarters on March 11 because of the lapse.

The loss of Paschall and Wiseman will be critical to the Warriors as each has carved out important roles in the rotation. Paschall, in 37 games this season, is averaging 9.5 points and 3.2 rebounds while Wiseman is posting 11.8 points, six rebounds and one block.

Injury Report: Eric Paschall (knee soreness) remains questionable vs. Spurs

After missing a pair of games due to knee soreness, Eric Paschall remains questionable for the Warriors against the Spurs on Monday.

To start a four-game Texas road trip, the Golden State Warriors have been dealing with a trio of injuries. With James Wiseman missing time due to a sprained wrist and Kevon Looney sidelined with a sprained ankle, Eric Paschall has been added to the injury report with knee soreness.

Paschall has missed the previous two contests against the Dallas Mavericks, limiting the Golden State rotation to only nine players. With the Warriors slated to face the San Antonio Spurs on Monday, Paschall remains questionable for the contest.

With Looney and Wiseman sidelined, the Warriors could use Paschall’s presence in the frontcourt. The Villanova product is averaging 10 points on 48.1% shooting from the field with 2.9 rebounds and 1.4 assists per contest.

If Paschall has to miss his third consecutive game, Juan Toscano-Anderson and Draymond Green will likely continue to see a bulk of the minutes in the frontcourt.

The Warriors are slated to tip-off against the Spurs on Monday at 5:30 p.m. PST.

Injury Report: Eric Paschall (knee soreness) out for second consecutive game vs. Mavs

Golden State Warriors forward Eric Paschall is slated to miss his second consecutive game against the Dallas Mavericks due to knee soreness.

After missing Thursday’s contest against the Dallas Mavericks, Eric Paschall is slated to miss his second consecutive contest due to knee soreness on Saturday night.

Paschall will join injured rookie James Wiseman (sprained wrist) and veteran Kevon Looney (sprained ankle) on the sideline, giving the Golden State Warriors only nine active players against Luka Doncic and the Mavericks.

With a depleted depth chart, Steve Kerr opted to start Draymond Green and Juan Toscano-Anderson on the frontline in the first of a two-contest baseball series against Dallas.

Green registered a double-double with season-highs in points and assists, scoring 11 points and dishing 15 dimes during Golden State’s blowout 147-116 victory. Toscano-Anderson added 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field with eight boards and two steals in 40 minutes on Thursday.

With Paschall sidelined for part two against the Mavericks, the Warriors will need a similar performance from Kelly Oubre Jr. on Saturday night. Oubre Jr. recorded a career-high 40 points on 14-of-21 shooting from the field with eight rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal in 36 minutes.

Along with Oubre Jr., Green and Toscano-Anderson, four other members of the Warriors scored in double figures, including Damion Lee (17 points) and Mychal Mulder (12 points) off the bench.

The Warriors are slated to close game two against the Mavericks at 5:30 p.m. PST on Saturday night.

Injury Report: Eric Paschall (right knee soreness) questionable vs. Mavericks

With an already thin rotation against the Mavericks on Thursday, Eric Paschall has been added to the Warriors injury report with right knee soreness.

Over the last week, the Golden State Warriors have been dealing with a pair of significant injuries in the frontcourt. After James Wiseman suffered a sprained wrist against the Detroit Pistons, Kevon Looney sustained a sprained ankle on Tuesday night with the Boston Celtics at Chase Center.

Following Wiseman and Looney’s injuries, Eric Paschall has been added to the Warriors injury report with right knee soreness. The sophomore forward is listed as questionable on Thursday night against Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks.

If Paschall is ruled out, the Warriors would only have nine active players against the Mavericks. Draymond Green and Juan Toscano-Anderson would likely take a bulk of the minutes in the frontcourt for Steve Kerr.

After Looney exited the game on Tuesday, Toscano-Anderson was inserted into the lineup as a small-ball center. Golden State’s two-way notched 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field with a pair of rebounds in 27 minutes.

The Warriors will begin a four-game road trip with a stop in Dallas on Thursday night at 4:30 p.m. PST.

Eric Paschall returns to Warriors after receiving false positive COVID-19 test

After missing the Pacers game on Tuesday due to entering the league’s health and safety protocol, Eric Paschall has made his return to the Warriors.

On Tuesday, the Golden State Warriors were without an essential piece in the second unit against the Indiana Pacers. After entering the league’s health and safety protocol, Eric Paschall was ruled out against the Pacers for the final contest of a seven-game homestand.

Before the Warriors begin a three-game road trip, Paschall made his return to the team. On Wednesday, the NBA sophomore returned to Golden State’s practice after clearing the league’s health and safety protocol.

In a post-practice interview with members of the media on Wednesday, Paschall revealed he received a false positive COVID-19 test. Following his false positive, Paschall had to quarantine for 24-hours and test negative again before returning to the team.

You just take it day-by-day. Obviously, it happens. Not everything is perfect; not every system is perfect. Again it happened. Obviously, it was disappointing I couldn’t play yesterday, but I’m back. I’m happy I could come back and get on the flight tonight.

Listen to Paschall’s full post-practice presser via Warriors SoundCloud.

Without Paschall against the Pacers, Golden State’s bench struggled, scoring only 21 points as a unit. Damion Lee led the Warriors’ second unit with 12 points in 27 minutes against Indiana.

Prior to his one-game absence, Paschall tallied double-figure scoring efforts off the bench in eight consecutive games. The second-year forward is averaging 12.1 points on 54.3% shooting from the field with 3.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 19.3 minutes per game.

Paschall’s return to the Warriors comes in time for a matchup with Nikola Jokic, Paul Milsap and the Denver Nuggets. The Warriors are slated to tipoff against the Nuggets in Denver on Thursday at 7 p.m. PST.

Report: Eric Paschall entering NBA’s health and safety protocol, out vs. Pacers

According to Anthony Slater of The Athletic, Warriors forward Eric Paschall is out against the Pacers after entering the league’s health and safety protocol.

The Golden State Warriors will be without a key piece off the bench against the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday night at Chase Center. According to Anthony Slater of The Athletic, Eric Paschall will be out against the Pacers after entering the league’s health and safety protocol.

Over the past week, multiple players around the association have entered the NBA’s health and safety protocol due to testing positive for COVID-19 or coming withing close contact with someone who tested positive for the virus.

Paschall’s length of absence is still to be determined, per Slater. Following Golden State’s tilt with the Pacers on Tuesday, the Warriors will enter a tough stretch of games against potential playoff contenders, including the Denver Nuggets, Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers.

Via @anthonyVslater on Twitter:

Over the last eight games, Paschall has scored in double-figures off the bench in each contest. The second-year forward has thrived in a small-ball center role off the bench, averaging 12.1 points on 54.3% shooting from the field with 3.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 19.3 minutes per game.

If Paschall has to miss extended time, Juan Toscano-Anderson and Kevon Looney could receive bigger roles in Steve Kerr’s second unit. James Wiseman could also see extended minutes in the frontcourt. The 2020 No. 2 overall pick has started each game, but is only averaging 20.2 minutes per contest.

The Warriors have to figure out how to be good without Stephen Curry

When Curry sits, they have problems

The Warriors very clearly have intentions of being a title contender this season. With Klay Thompson’s torn Achilles, though, that feels pretty farfetched at this point.

Now, the question shifts to whether they can actually make the playoffs. Although Stephen Curry is a phenomenal player who has carried teams before, it’s unclear whether he can do it again heading into this season.

And after the Warriors’ 114-113 loss to the Kings on Tuesday night, those questions are only burning hotter.

Yes, it’s only preseason. And yes, the Kings look like they could be a pretty good team. But at the same time, the Warriors showed that they had some issues that are pretty hard to overlook at this point.

They just have no offense outside of Stephen Curry.

The Warriors struggled in non-Steph minutes

Again, it’s the preseason. So nothing is definite just yet. But if the game against the Kings was any indication, the Warriors offense are going to struggle to score when Curry sits.

There’s a pattern here. He played 10 minutes in the first quarter and the Warriors outscored he Kings 27-25. He sat to start the second and they were outscored 37-20 — Curry only played in just under 6 minutes of that quarter. He played the full 12 minutes of the third quarter and the Warriors outscored Sacramento 34-26.

Those were the last of his 28 minutes on the night. He was a whopping +12.1 for in last night’s game, according to data from NBA’s stats database. No other Warrior with, at least, 20 minutes played had a higher net rating than Kelly Oubre’s +3.9.

When Steph was in? The Warriors looked incredible. When he was out, they looked like they might win the lottery again. And that’s not a great sign for the Warriors.

That’s a huge problem

No, it’s not irregular for a team to struggle when a star player sits. But it’s how much the team actually struggles when that player sits that matters. The Warriors struggled mightily.

Just look at how rapidly things fell apart after the first 15 minutes.

That cannot happen for a playoff team. They have to be able to maintain some sort of lead. Without Klay Thompson’s shooting touch, they’re probably going to have to do that defensively. Whether they actually have the talent to do that remains to be seen.

There’s still plenty more to see from them

By no means should anyone be writing the Warriors off just yet. They’re not quite a finished product. The Warriors haven’t played Draymond Green, James Wiseman or Eric Paschall just yet.

Those are three of their six or seven best players at this point. The way they look could determine a ton about how this season goes for the Warriors. It’s too early to make snap judgments on them now.

Hopefully, they find an answer for their non-Steph minutes problem. If they do, they’re a sure bet for the playoffs. If not, things can be rough.

Injury Report: Eric Paschall and Alen Smailagic ruled out for preseason game vs. Kings

Eric Paschall and Alen Smilagic will miss the Golden State Warriors preseason game against the Sacramento Kings with knee soreness.

Along with Draymond Green and James Wiseman, the Golden State Warriors injury report grew before tipoff with the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday.

NBA sophomores Eric Paschall and Alen Smailagic are listed as out on the injury report for the Warriors preseason matchup with the Kings at the Golden 1 Center. Both players will miss the contest with knee soreness.

Although Marquesse Chriss was initially listed as questionable, the 23-year-old big man will be available against the Kings.

With Green and Wiseman sidelined in Golden State’s opening preseason game against the Nuggets, Paschall got the nod in the starting lineup. The Villanova product tallied eight points on 3-of-7 shooting from the field with seven boards, three assists and a steal in 23 minutes.

Smailagic played 11 minutes off the bench for Golden State on Saturday against the Nuggets, recorded four points, three rebounds, a block and a steal.

With Smailagic, Paschall, Green and Wiseman missing from the frontcourt rotation, Chriss and Kevon Looney could see a bulk of the playing time. Andrew Wiggins and Kelly Oubre Jr. could also play a more prominent role.

Undrafted rookie free agent Kaleb Wesson could also pick up minutes in Steve Kerr’s rotation. In his third season at Ohio State, the 6-foot-9 forward averaged 14 points and 9.3 rebounds per game.

The Kings and Warriors are slated to tipoff at 7 p.m. PST on Tuesday at Golden 1 Center.
