Projecting Georgia’s highest impact true freshman for 2024 season

Brock Bowers, Malaki Starks, CJ Allen – which true freshman will follow suit and make the greatest impact in 2024?

Championship football teams don’t rely solely on returning talent and experienced starters. Often, the impact of a true freshman can provide the extra spark needed to make a postseason run.

Georgia’s 2021 season provides a great example. The Bulldogs broke a four-decade national championship drought thanks, in part, to the efforts of future three-time All-American tight end Brock Bowers. His 56 receptions led the nearest Georgia receiver by 21 catches (Ladd McConkey). Bowers also set several UGA records as a true freshman that year.

Safety Malaki Starks left a similar mark on Georgia’s 2022 squad that finished 15-0 and secured a consecutive national title. The former five-star recruit finished third on the team in total tackles (68) and led the team in pass breakups (7).

In 2023, it was inside linebacker C.J. Allen, who stepped up big when starter Jamon Dumas-Johnson went down with a season-ending injury. Like Bowers and Starks, Allen earned Freshman All-American honors and finished fifth on the team in total stops with 41.

So which 2024 signee could make a similar impact to those aforementioned?

Georgia’s No. 1 recruiting class provides a number of talented options, but my pick comes at a position of need for Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs. UGA faces the challenge of replacing star cornerback Kamari Lassiter, who is now a Houston Texan. Lassiter was the definition of a lockdown cornerback at Georgia, allowing just two touchdowns in his three-year career.

Five-star early enrollee Ellis Robinson IV, the highest-rated recruit at his position in the Smart-era, brings an elite level of talent to Athens. While we don’t typically see a true freshman cornerback play a consequential number of snaps in Smart’s defense, Robinson is that good.

Robinson (6-foot-1, 185 pounds) was considered the No. 1 cornerback and the No. 2 player in the country, per 247Sports. He maintains a blend of size, speed, physicality and ball skills that can compete for a starting spot in the fall. Daylen Everette returns as a starter, while young up-and-comers Julian Humphrey and Daniel Harris make up the top of the depth chart.

The IMG Academy product joined the team ahead of Orange Bowl practices and participated in the spring period, totaling three tackles during the G-Day scrimmage game.

Robinson’s athleticism and skill set, paired with joining the team early, points towards a large role, eventually, in Georgia’s defense moving forward. The only question is when exactly he will be trusted enough by Smart and company.

Elite 2024 Georgia signee finishes cycle as No. 1 overall recruit

Elite 2024 Georgia signee finishes cycle as No. 1 overall recruit

Georgia’s No. 1 recruiting class for the 2024 cycle includes a slew of highly touted players, and five-star cornerback Ellis Robinson IV is considered the star of the class.

Robinson (6 feet, 1 inch, 185 pounds) finished as ESPN’s No. 1 overall recruit in the class, making him the highest-rated cornerback recruit in Georgia history. He was ranked No. 2 overall by 247Sports and No. 3 overall by Rivals.

The IMG Academy standout enrolled early at Georgia and is already in his first semester in Athens.

Robinson’s talent is apparent on film. He routinely wins 1-on-1 matchups, which often end with the ball in Robinson’s hands. You can watch Robinson’s senior film here.

The Bulldogs will look different at cornerback following the departure of starter Kamari Lassiter to the 2024 NFL draft. Robinson has the skills to contribute there immediately. We’ll get our first chance to see Robinson in a UGA uniform when Georgia hosts its annual G-Day spring game in April.

What 5-star defensive back did ESPN’s Tom Luginbill compare to Sauce Gardner and Minkah Fitzpatrick?

Ellis Robinson IV gets some big NFL comparisons from ESPN analyst Tom Luginbill.

Georgia football commit and signee Ellis Robinson IV has the potential to be an elite player, with ESPN analyst Tom Luginbill making some pretty strong projections for the class of 2024 defensive back.

Robinson is a five-star player who participated in last week’s Under Armour All-America Game. ESPN ranks him as the top recruit in the nation in the 2024 class.

He had an offer list that included Florida State, Kentucky and Miami among others.

Luginbill was the analyst for last week’s Under Armour All-America game on ESPN. After watching Robinson in practice, he was impressed with the defensive back, who signed with Georgia during the early signing period in December.

“If I were to just tell you from a physical attributes standpoint, he’s as good of a pure cover corner prospect that we’ve had in this game over the last 17 years now,” Luginbill told USA TODAY High School Sports.

“I think what makes him a bit unique is he’s every bit as good a tackler and run supporter- it’s not all about the pass breakup, interceptions and recovery. He’s a complete package. So we’ve been very excited to see that he has been as advertised.”

Robinson played his last year of high school football for IMG Academy (Bradenton, Florida). IMG finished the season fifth in the nation in the USA TODAY HSS Super 25.

As for comparisons, Luginbill likened Robinson to a trio of defensive backs who are currently in the NFL.

“He’s built very, very similar to Sauce – that’s a great comp that I would agree with,” Luginbill said.

“I think Eli Apple when he was at Ohio State, that’s another one? I would say that some of the Alabama guys Dre Kirkpatrick, Minkah Fitzpatrick when he first came to Alabama, he was a corner that got moved into safety. So I think there’s a lot of good comps out there.

“You just don’t find six one-and-a-half, 190-pound corners that are just so fluid and agile and explosive…there’s a lot of guys that look the part and are athletic, but maybe they don’t perform to that level all the time. He performs on par with his skill set.”

5-star LSU cornerback target sets commitment date

Ellis Robinson IV, a five-star 2024 prospect from IMG Academy, is making his decision on Feb. 1.

LSU will be eagerly awaiting a decision from one of the top players in the 2024 recruiting class as cornerback [autotag]Ellis Robinson IV[/autotag] will announce his college commitment on Feb. 1 — which is also national signing day for the 2023 class.

The IMG Academy prospect is rated as a five-star recruit and ranks No. 13 nationally per 247Sports and seventh per On3. He recently trimmed his list of finalists to Alabama, Colorado, Georgia, LSU and Miami and told On3’s Chad Simmons that he will “definitely” commit to one of those finalists.

Robinson visited Miami this past weekend and Georgia the prior weekend. He has taken visits to all of his finalists — including a trip to LSU on Sept. 17 — except for the Buffaloes. He told On3’s Chad Simmons that his decision will come down to relationships.

“I am big on family. That was something I was looking for in a school. I have found that. With all five schools on my list, I created some strong relationships, but at one school, it is different. It has that family feeling to it. At that school, it is not just the relationships with the coaches, but with the players and the people around the school. The feeling around the people at that school is different for me.”

LSU will hope to close things out with one of the top players on the board in next year’s cycle.

2024 5-star DB Ellis Robinson IV lists Alabama in top five

2024 defensive back Ellis Robinson IV recently listed Alabama in his top five. He was a high school teammate of Alabama cornerback Desmond Ricks.

Alabama was recently listed as a finalist to land 2024 five-star defensive back Ellis Robinson IV. The Connecticut native released his top schools via Twitter.

Robinson IV plays for IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, but previously played at Iona Preparatory School in New Rochelle, New York.

Alabama is in the mix to earn his commitment but will have to battle other top programs and a couple of quickly-rising teams.

He was a high school teammate of Alabama signee Desmond Ricks. The two were instrumental pieces on the Ascenders’ defense. As of right now, Alabama is the favorite to land Robinson IV at 62.0% likelihood, according to On3’s RPM.

Roll Tide Wire breaks down Ellis Robinson IV’s recruiting profile.

LSU makes this 5-star cornerback’s top 5

The Tigers are in the mix for one of 2024’s top prospects.

[autotag]Ellis Robinson IV[/autotag] is a 2024 6-foot, 180-pound, five-star cornerback from New Haven, Connecticut, where he played for Iona Prep School. He has since transferred to the national powerhouse, IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.

Robinson recently released his top-five list of schools going forward as the 2024 recruiting class is now on the clock. The LSU Tigers made the cut along with Alabama, Georgia, Miami and Colorado.

Since Coach Prime took over at Colorado, the Buffaloes are in the mix for a ton of very talented recruits. If you are a defensive back, why would you not want to play for Deion Sanders?

Alabama is a 62% favorite to land Robinson per on3, but Georgia has received a crystal ball projection on 247sports. Robinson will definitely be a guy to keep an eye on heading forward. [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] and his staff will make him a top priority for the 2024 class.

5-star 2024 cornerback set to visit LSU

One of the best players in the 2024 cycle will be on hand for the Tigers’ SEC opener on Saturday.

[autotag]Ellis Robinson IV[/autotag] is a 2024 five-star cornerback from Bradenton, Florida where he plays for national powerhouse IMG Academy.

Robinson is visiting Death Valley for the first SEC game of the season as the Tigers take on the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Saturday Night. There aren’t many atmospheres in any sport that can match up to a night game in Baton Rouge. [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] is hoping that atmosphere can sway Robinson’s college decision and take the Tigers to the top of his list.

Robinson is currently crystal balled to Georgia by 247Sports and Alabama is a 62% favorite to land him per On3. LSU currently has five commitments for the 2024 class, which ranks as the No. 3 class in the country.

LSU is currently 1-1 on the year after a heartbreaking loss to Florida State in week one and a huge win at home against Southern last week. Hopefully, Robinson will enjoy Baton Rouge so much that he will want to stay.

Tide hosting elite 2024 cornerback Ellis Robinson IV at the end of July

2024 Ellis Robinson IV has announced that he will be visiting Alabama on July 30.

Alabama has had a plethora of success at the cornerback position over the years. Trevon Diggs, Cyrus Jones, Levi Wallace and Anthony Averett are just some of the former Alabama corners that have found their way into the NFL. With the transfer portal becoming a hot commodity in college football, the coaching staff needs to recruit harder than ever before.

One of the proven cornerbacks in the 2024 class is Ellis Robinson IV. Recently, Robinson IV tweeted that he would be taking a visit to Tuscaloosa on July 30. The native of New York currently plays at IMG Academy.

Several players on the current roster came from IMG, including Ja’Corey Brooks, JC Latham, Jihaad Campbell and Tyler Booker.

Alabama holds a solid lead in his recruitment according to On3’s RPM. As of right now, Alabama is favored to land him at 62.5% likelihood.

5-star 2024 defensive back includes Ohio State in top ten schools

One to keep an eye on, but a lot of competition. #GoBucks

We continue to keep our eyes and ears on all that’s going on with Ohio State football recruiting and while there’s a long way to go in most cases, it’s always good to see the Buckeyes still being mentioned as in the running with some of the brightest high school talent out there.

And that’s the case with the announcement from 5-star cornerback from the 2024 class, Ellis Robinson IV, from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. Robinson released his top ten schools through a graphic put together by edit guru Hayes Fawcett, and Ohio State is among the ten schools still in the running.

According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, Robinson is the No. 9 overall prospect and second-best cornerback in the entire recruiting cycle.

Though the Buckeyes are firmly in the mix here, there is clearly a lot of competition, with the lone crystal ball being placed to Georgia at the moment. Other schools in the top ten besides the Dawgs and Buckeyes include South Carolina, USC, Alabama, Oklahoma, LSU, Miami (FL), Penn State, and Florida.

5-star 2024 CB recruit names Florida among top 10 schools

Napier and gang are already grinding away at the 2024 class and it appears to have paid off with this top propsect.

Recruiting season is in full swing for Florida football as the program starts off the summer months playing host to some of the best prep prospects around the country in hopes of luring them into the Swamp. While the 2023 class has been the primary focus for [autotag]Billy Napier[/autotag] and his staff as they rebuild a once-proud program, the team’s brass is also looking ahead to the next one as well.

The recruiting efforts for the 2024 crop got some great news on Friday when five-star cornerback Ellis Robinson IV out of IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida — a program that the Gators have put a significant amount of focus on — whittled down his top-10 schools and included UF on the list, according to Hayes Fawcett of On3.

The native of New Haven, Connecticut, also included the South Carolina Gamecocks, USC Trojans, Alabama Crimson Tide, Oklahoma Sooners, LSU Tigers, Ohio State Buckeyes, Miami Hurricanes, Penn State Nittany Lions and Georgia Bulldogs on his list of preferred schools.

Robinson currently ranks No. 9 overall and No. 2 at his position nationally in the 2024 class according to the 247Sports composite, while the On3 consensus has him at Nos. 10 and 2, respectively — both with a five-star rating. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine has Alabama ahead of the pack in his recruitment with a 62.5% chance of landing him while Georgia sits second at 33% but also holds 247Sports’ lone crystal ball projection.
