Broncos worked out 2 running backs on Tuesday

The Broncos worked out running backs Elijah Dotson and Salvon Ahmed on Tuesday. Ahmed signed with the practice squad.

The Denver Broncos brought in two running backs for workouts on Tuesday, seeking more depth at the position following Tyler Badie’s back injury.

The Broncos worked out Elijah Dotson and Salvon Ahmed, according to the NFL’s transaction wire (via KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis). Ahmed won the tryout and signed with the team’s practice squad on Tuesday.

Ahmed (5-11, 197 pounds) is a fifth-year running back who totaled 867 yards from scrimmage and scored six touchdowns in four seasons with the Miami Dolphins from 2020-2023 (38 games with four starts).

Dotson (5-9, 202 pounds) is a second-year running back who entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of Northern Colorado with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2023. He dressed in four games last season, rushing four times for six yards and catching two passes for 13 yards.

After bouncing between L.A.’s practice squad and active roster last fall, Dotson was waived by the Chargers in August.

After signing on Tuesday, Ahmed joins a Denver backfield that also includes Javonte Williams, Jaleel McLaughlin, Audric Estime (currently on IR), Blake Watson and Badie.

Titans work out veteran running backs ahead of Week 4

The Titans work out multiple veterans on Tuesday.

The Tennessee Titans have not gotten off to a good start in 2024.

The team is 0-3 and entrenched at the bottom of the AFC South. As expected, the team started bringing in free agents for workouts this week.

Per KPRC 2 Houston’s Aaron Wilson, the Titans brought in four running backs for a workout on Tuesday.

The team brought in Elijah Dotson, Joshua Kelley, James Robinson, and Isaiah Spiller.

Dotson, Kelley, and Spiller are all former members of the  Los Angeles Chargers. Kelley spent four seasons in LA, taking 320 carries for 1,148 yards and six touchdowns.

Dotson saw the field sparingly as an undrafted free agent in 2023, and Spiller received just 55 carries over two seasons.

Robinson is easily the most accomplished player of the four brought in. Titans fans will remember Robinson for his tenure with the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2020-22.

In 2020, as a UDFA, Robinson took the starting RB job in Jacksonville and finished with 1,070 yards and seven TDs. Robinson then spent time with the New York Jets in 2022 before playing one game with the Green Bay Packers in 2023.

The Titans only have three RBs on the roster right now with Tony Pollard, Tyjae Spears, and Julius Chestnut. Spears was recently dealing with an injury and Chestnut was responsible for a blocked punt in Week 2.

Jabari Small is on the Titans’ practice squad and could be called upon as well.

Michigan basketball makes top group for in-state 2025 4-star athlete

Gotta get these in-state guys. #GoBlue

Michigan football needs some good news on the recruiting trail. Despite winning the national championship and having the excitement of a new head coach in Sherrone Moore, all has been quiet on the Western front.

But good news may be on the horizon.

Hailing from Belleville (Mich.), Elijah Dotson is a four-star athlete with some big-time offers. AT 6-foot-2, 175 pounds, Dotson is capable of playing either on offense or defense, having played receiver, wildcat quarterback, and defensive back at the high school level.

On Wednesday, he announced that he’s starting to whittle down his list of contenders and Michigan football made the cut. But so, too, did Tennessee, Purdue, Illinois, Pitt, Kansas, Michigan State, and Penn State.

The scouting report via 247Sports’ Allen Trieu:

Has played safety, corner, receiver, return man and some wildcat quarterback in high school. Has above average size and plays physically. Will put his face in the action in run support and will get his hands on receivers if playing man to man. Receiver background helps in his ball skills. Versatile and can play deep in the secondary or come into the box as well as match-up one on one with slots and tight ends. Most likely projection is safety, but it is not out of the question a school could try him as a big corner. Track background speaks to his athleticism and has enough straight line speed to recover and run down plays.

Dotson is rated highest via the On3 industry ranking where he’s a four-star at No. 360 overall. He’s rated a three-star by all of the other recruiting services.

Michigan currently has the 247Sports Crystal Ball prediction with three analysts indicating he’ll eventually become a Wolverine.

Chargers OC Kellen Moore on running back room heading into season: ‘Austin’s the guy’

Chargers OC Kellen Moore spoke on the deep running back room.

The Chargers running back room had a highly successful preseason. As a result, they are carrying four backs on the 53-man roster: Austin Ekeler, Joshua Kelley, Isaiah Spiller, and Elijah Dotson.

It should be no surprise that Ekeler remains the leader of the group and will continue to have a high workload.

“We got four running backs we feel confident about. Austin’s gonna carry the load and you know, we’ll need those other guys as we go through the season” Moore said.

Ekeler didn’t touch the ball in the Chargers’ preseason this past August, and neither did any other starters on offense.

In 2022, Ekeler rushed for 915 yards and 13 touchdowns, averaging 4.5 yards per carry. On top of these rushing numbers, Ekeler had 722 receiving yards and five touchdowns.

As a versatile back, Ekeler will continue to be the go-to guy in the running back room and aid in opening up the offense for quarterback Justin Herbert.

“Austin’s the guy, certainly we feel really really confident about Austin. But I think as the season goes on… we want to be able to utilize those other guys,” Moore added.

Kelley, Spiller, and Dotson showed out in preseason, combining for a total of 542 yards and three touchdowns over three games.

With Moore’s new offensive system, the running back room should excel by utilizing different looks and a planned rotation to help alleviate some of the pressure from RB1 Ekeler.

This will allow Ekeler to use his energy more efficiently and be explosive off the line throughout the game rather than slowing down in the second half from too many carries.

With four running backs on the roster, the Chargers are sure to make an impact on the ground.
