Chiefs scouting report: Stanford Cardinal WR Elic Ayomanor

Stanford Cardinal wide receiver Elic Ayomanor is a potential target for the Kansas City #Chiefs in the 2025 NFL draft.

Injuries to Marquise Brown and Rashee Rice revealed the Kansas City Chiefs’ limited depth in its receiving corps. The Chiefs must continue investing assets in targets for Patrick Mahomes. Fortunately, the 2025 NFL draft will feature a deep pool of pass-catching prospects.

Stanford Cardinal wideout Elic Ayomanor is a young prospect with an impressive 6 foot 2 inch, 210-pound frame. His background as a highly coveted high school track star shows up on vertical routes in a unique way. He lacks the traditional burst associated with former track athletes but uses his long strides to build up speed and stack cornerbacks downfield.

Ayomanor’s route tree is still developing, but he knows how to manipulate leverage and freeze cornerbacks with his route tempo. He stems slant and post routes outside to draw the cornerback toward the sideline before working into space over the middle of the field.

Ayomanor’s ability to decelerate and reaccelerate quickly is surprising for a player with his size. This helps him stack corners on stutter-go routes or break off comeback routes at the top of the stem. His ability to create natural separation as a route runner is average, but this is only his second season as a college starter. He should continue developing for several years in the NFL before nearing his peak.

Ayomanor doesn’t maximize his frame at the catch point consistently. His large catch radius and ball tracking on downfield plays stand out, but he’s not aggressive enough at the catch point to ward off defensive backs. He fights the football sometimes, causing uncontested drops. Ayomanor projects as a second or third-round selection.

Stanford goes on the road to face No. 11 Notre Dame on Oct. 12 at 2:30 p.m. CST. Stanford’s last game against a ranked opponent was a 40-14 loss to Clemson. Notre Dame defeated a ranked Louisville team 31-24 last week.

The Irish can’t lose to this team, right?

Stanford is trying to salvage something out of its season. Even its win over Coach Prime and Colorado has become lessened by the fact that Buffaloes turned out not to be much better than the Cardinal. A victory over Notre Dame would by far be the signature of their season. That won’t be easy though.

There are a few talented players on the Cardinal, but they only can do so much to make up for their shortcomings. For instance, the offense lives off the pass to the point where the quarterbacks actually are the top rushers. For our purposes though, we’re discounting them in that category for this listicle. That alone should speak volumes about the Cardinal.

It’s no surprise that a team with this many shortcomings has dragged the Irish to the dying Pac-12 Network for its final live football game. If it somehow pulls off the upset, here are the players most likely to factor in:

Twitter reacts to Stanford’s unbelievable comeback win over Colorado

Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes suffered the biggest collapse in school history against Stanford, and Twitter had a LOT to say about it.

Deion Sanders will probably never want to play on Friday the 13th ever again.

His Colorado Buffaloes had a 29-0 lead over the Stanford Cardinal in a Friday night game that didn’t wrap up until early Saturday morning, because Stanford came roaring back in the third quarter, forcing overtime at 36-36, and winning in double overtime, 46-43.

This was all set up for Sanders’ team. Stanford came into this game with a 1-4 record, and they were 0-3 in the conference. The Buffaloes welcomed star receiver/defensive back Travis Hunter back from injury, and Hunter put on a show, with 13 catches for 140 yards and two touchdowns.

But it was another receiver who defined the game, and that was Stanford’s Elic Ayomanor, who caught 13 passes for 294 yards and three touchdowns. Ayomanor ran over and through Colorado’s defense, frequently winning on the crossing routes that have been a problem for Colorado’s defense all season long.

Even in the game, Colorado’s coach had a feeling this could go the wrong way for him and his team.

“I talked to them about the old cliche people say — it’s 0-0 but that’s not true. It’s not 0-0, it’s 29-nothing,” Sanders said. “I felt complacency going into the half because we stalled offensively, gave up some yardage as well. Just didn’t like how I felt going in at halftime. We come back out and here comes complacency. Here comes that team that I can’t stand, that you can’t stand it. You can’t understand how in the world that happens to us. But it did.”

It did, it was the biggest blown lead in school history, and here’s what Twitter had to say about it.

Stanford’s Elic Ayoumanor caught everything on Friday in Boulder except the cold.

The wide receiver had 13 grabs for 294 yards and 3 touchdowns after his incredible catch in overtime.

Covered by Travis Hunter, the wideout from Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada, Ayomanor somehow snagged the ball and pulled it over the two-way star’s helmet in the first overtime.

The PAT after the 30-yard catch made it 43-43 and the schools played on into the night at Folsom Field.
