Seahawks activate DE Rasheem Green, elevate 2 from practice squad

The Seattle Seahawks activated Rasheem Green from the injured reserve and elevated Alex Collins and Jayson Stanley from the practice squad.

The Seattle Seahawks announced a number of roster moves Saturday afternoon ahead of their Week-9 contest against the Buffalo Bills.

Seattle has activated defensive end Rasheem Green from the injured reserve to the 53-man roster. Green was placed on the IR after he sustained a stinger Week 1 against the Falcons. After two weeks of practice, he is ready to go.

“Rasheem had a fantastic couple of weeks here,” Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said this week. “He’s in great shape, so he’s ready to get out there and play. He worked really hard in his rehab and return, and was in great shape before we started last week, so he looks really good.”

The Seahawks also elevated two players from the practice squad on Saturday – running back Alex Collins and cornerback Jayson Stanley.

Collins, who was originally drafted by Seattle, was brought in just this week to add depth at running back with Chris Carson and Carlos Hyde ruled out for this Sunday.

Seahawks announce 4 roster moves ahead of Week 8 vs. 49ers

Seahawks activated D.J. Reed and Colby Parkinson from the NFI list and elevated Stephen Sullivan and Jayson Stanley from the practice squad.

The Seattle Seahawks announced a number of roster moves Saturday afternoon ahead of the Week-8 contest against the San Francisco 49ers.

Seattle has activated cornerback D.J. Reed and tight end Colby Parkinson from the Non-Football Injury list to the 53-man roster.

Now that he has been added to the active roster, Reed has also been listed on the injury report as questionable with a hamstring.

“He is ready to play,” coach Pete Carroll said Friday. “He’s an exciting football player. You have great quickness and really good savvy and understanding for the game. That’s why when we got him a while back you know we were really excited about him being able to jump in. We thought he could play quickly if we give him the opportunity. So if he gets that opportunity, he’s ready to roll . . . ”

The Seahawks also elevated defensive end/tight end Stephen Sullivan and cornerback Jayson Stanley from the practice squad.

Seattle is particularly thin at defensive back with Shaquill Griffin ruled out for Sunday and Ugo Amadi doubtful to play.

Seahawks elevate LB Ray-Ray Armstrong from practice squad

The Seattle Seahawks have elevated linebacker Ray-Ray Armstrong from the practice squad ahead of the Week-7 contest against the Cardinals.

The Seattle Seahawks announced one roster move Saturday afternoon, the team has opted to elevated linebacker Ray-Ray Armstrong from the practice squad.

The new rule for this year allows the elevation of up to two players per week, who are then available for the matchup. No corresponding moves are required and the elevated players will automatically revert back to the practice squad the following day without having to clear waivers. However, each player can only be elevated twice per season before having to be added to the active roster to play.

Seattle just signed Armstrong this week, on the same day the Seahawks signed linebacker Mychal Kendricks to the practice squad. Kendricks finished last season on the injured reserve as a result of a torn ACL.

Armstong originally entered the league in 2013 as an undrafted free agent out of Miami. Over his eight-year career, he has spent time with the 49ers, Giants, Raiders, Rams, Browns, Cowboys and Saints.

Detroit Lions elevate TE Isaac Nauta to the active roster for Week 7

The Detroit Lions announced they have elevated tight end Isaac Nauta to the active roster for Week 7.

The Detroit Lions announced they have elevated tight end Isaac Nauta from the practice squad to the active roster for Week 7.

This is the second time in as many weeks Nauta has found his way onto the 53-man roster, playing 18 snaps on offense in Week 6 with no statistical production — which isn’t overly surprising as he is mainly utilized in a blocking capacity.

Being able to elevate a practice squad player to the active roster is a new rule for 2020, due to COVID-19, but there are some important details to keep in mind.

After Nauta plays in the game on Sunday, he will then revert back to the Lions practice squad without having to clear waivers. But moving forward, if the Lions wish to elevate him to the active roster again, the rule has some stipulations:

“No player may be activated under this rule for more than two games per season, either regular-season or postseason games,” per ESPN’s Dan Graziano. “If a player has already been elevated twice under this rule, and the team wants to add him to the roster, it must terminate his practice-squad contract and sign him to an NFL contract, as has been the case with practice-squad players in years past.”

So, while Nauta will return to the practice squad after this week’s game, if the Lions wish to use Nauta in another game this season, he would have to be signed to the active roster.

Lions make series of roster moves ahead of Week 6 matchup

The Detroit Lions have made a series of roster moves ahead of their Week 6 matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Detroit Lions have made a series of roster moves ahead of their Week 6 matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The biggest move is the return of starting guard Joe Dahl, who was activated from injured reserve and placed on the 53-man roster. His return will allow the Lions to potentially trot out their preferred starting five offensive linemen, while also having coverage at center if Frank Ragnow is unable to play. Ragnow is currently listed as questionable, but the fact that he was not downgraded to out today is a solid sign he will get a chance to test his groin in pre-game and could still potentially play.

The Lions have also signed quarterback David Blough off of their practice squad and placed him on the active roster. It’s not totally clear why the Lions felt the need to make this move at this time, as the Lions have yet to use Chase Daniel for a single snap so far this season, but it’s possible another team tried to poach him off the practice squad and the Lions offered to sign him to keep him in Detroit.

Update: Chris Burke of The Athletic confirmed our speculations that Blough was indeed offered a contract from the Dallas Cowboys and that led to the Lions signing him.

To make room for Dahl and Blough, the Lions placed rookie tight end Hunter Bryant on injured reserve on Friday and released cornerback Chris Jones on Saturday in corresponding moves.

Additionally, the Lions elected to take advantage of a new COVID-19 rule for 2020, and have elevated tight end Isaac Nauta from the practice squad to the active roster. Nauta will be allowed to play on Sunday — a move that makes sense with only two other tight ends on the roster — and following the game, he will revert to the Lions practice squad and will not be subject to waivers.

Damon Harrison ‘has some work to do’ to get in game-day shape

The Seattle Seahawks recently signed Damon “Snacks” Harrison to the practice squad but hope to see him contribute once he’s in game-day shape.

The Seattle Seahawks signed defensive tackle Damon “Snacks” Harrison to practice squad last week with the hopes that he will eventually be able to contribute significantly on gameday.

Many were hoping to see him elevated from the practice squad in order to face the Vikings on Sunday night, but coach Pete Carroll didn’t think the long-term veteran was up to the task just yet.

After pondering retirement at the end of last season, the big defensive tackle hadn’t stepped back onto a football field until Seattle signed him this month. Carroll admitted Harrison still has some work to do.

“We really didn’t get a lot done because of the setup for the week,” Carroll said during his Monday press conference. “We were in walk-thru mode on Wednesday, we didn’t put pads on at all last week, we just did helmets, so we really didn’t get a great look at him. He’s got he’s got some work to do.

“He’s a big man, and he’s got to get in shape before we can see him at his best.”

Harrison and the rest of the Seahawks return from the bye to the practice field on Monday to prepare to face the Cardinals.

Seahawks elevate Damarious Randall not Snacks Harrison from practice squad

The Seattle Seahawks have elevated safety Damarious Randall from the practice squad Week 5, not defensive tackle Damon “Snacks” Harrison.

The Seattle Seahawks elevated one member of their practice squad Saturday ahead of the Sunday-night matchup against the Minnesota Vikings – but it’s likely not who you were thinking.

Seattle elevated safety Damarious Randall, not defensive tackle Damon “Snacks” Harrison, who was just signed to the practice squad this week.

“He’s a player that’s got big character in the locker room – his attitude and personality that you add to the team is really special,” coach Pete Carroll said of Harrison on Wednesday. “Whenever we can do that, we’re trying to get better, so hopefully he’ll be able to add in. Right now we just want to get to work and get him going with us.”

While Seattle does plan to ease Harrison into a role, the fact that he hasn’t stepped onto a football field since last season could be a big part of the equation. Carroll had said he wanted to see how Harrison practiced before just throwing him out there on game day.

Randall’s elevation does make sense, however, in light of the injuries to safeties Jamal Adams and Lano Hill.

Seahawks elevate 2 defensive backs ahead of Dolphins game

The Seahawks have elevated two defensive backs ahead of the Dolphins game Week 4: safety Damarious Randall and cornerback Gavin Heslop.

The Seattle Seahawks are running thin on the defensive side of the ball due to injuries. Safety Jamal Adams and linebacker Jordyn Brooks have already been ruled out for Sunday and three other defenders are listed as questionable to face the Dolphins.

To add some depth to the secondary, the Seahawks have elevated two defensive backs from the practice squad ahead of their Week-4 contest. Safety Damarious Randall and cornerback Gavin Heslop have both been brought up from the practice squad.

Randall was just signed to the practice squad this week and is a versatile option for Seattle.

Both players are now available for the Seahawks to utilize on their game-day roster and will automatically revert back to the practice squad on Monday.

The Seahawks and the Dolphins are set to square off Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. PT from Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. Here’s everything you need to know to catch all the action as well as our preview for the matchup.
