Big Game Boomer: ‘Nobody cares about’ Notre Dame-USC rivalry

Seriously?

If you’re a fan of Notre Dame or USC, you know how big the rivalry between the two programs is. Emotions run high whenever they play each other, and it’s the most famous intersectional rivalry in college football, spanning nearly a century. Don’t tell that to Big Game Boomer though.

Big Game Boomer, whom we’ve highlighted on this site several times for the college football lists he posts to social media, had to comment on a question posed by On3 about the best rivalry in the sport:

Beg your pardon? Why poke the bear on this? There’s a reason this game was played during all the other major rivalry games when the Trojans are the home team. But yeah, nobody cares about this game that’s played every year.

No disrespect to the Egg Bowl as it’s a great rivalry game in and of itself. But don’t build it up at the expense of the annual clash between the Irish and Trojans.

Why Mississippi State interim coach Greg Knox rode out on an ATV for the Egg Bowl

So why did Greg Knox ride out on an ATV before the Egg Bowl?

Mississippi State interim coach Greg Knox found an incredibly unorthodox way to teach his team to handle adversity of Thursday night’s Egg Bowl rivalry game against Ole Miss.

Knox rode out of the tunnel on an ATV with all of his players at his side, telling ESPN that he was doing this as a way to teach them how to handle opposition and make this moment a life lesson for all of them to remember.

If you’re a Bulldogs fan, you probably were ready to run through a wall for Knox, even if you’re not entirely sure why.

If you’re wondering why he did this, it’s actually for a specific reason and not just for the heck of it.

The ATV entrance was reportedly inspired by this story from inspirational speaker and former Tennessee football player Inky Johnson.

Mississippi State hasn’t had a great football season, but a four-wheeler entrance for an interim coach has to be at the top of the list of highlights.

Ole Miss trolls Mississippi State with hilarious ‘egg-free’ Amazon Christmas wishlist

A+ trolling yet again from Ole Miss football’s Twitter account.

No. 9 Ole Miss took down rival Mississippi State, 31-21, on Thanksgiving, winning the Egg Bowl for the second consecutive year and bringing the Golden Egg Trophy back to Oxford, where it will hang out for at least another year.

But it wasn’t enough for Ole Miss to beat the Bulldogs and extend coach Lane Kiffin’s reign as king of Mississippi until the teams meet again. The team’s Twitter account — which has produced some spectacular content throughout the season — has been celebrating the victory since Thursday night.

And Friday, the account delivered a hilarious dagger in the form of a Christmas wishlist on Amazon for Mississippi State fans with an overt “egg-free” theme to it. A+ trolling right here.

Items on the list include eggless cookbooks, such as Baking Without Eggs, children’s books, like Peter Rabbit: The Tale of the Missing Egg and Batman in the Case of the Missing Egg, and other products with an eggless theme, including egg-free seasonings, vegan eggs and other egg alternatives, eggless mayonnaise and eggless cookies.

Just incredible content from Ole Miss football’s Twitter account, which seldom misses a perfect trolling opportunity — along with Kiffin. And, of course, college football fans loved this.

In-state rivals agree to play on Thanksgiving night

With the Thanksgiving night slot open, another intrastate rivalry has taken precedent. MSU and Ole Miss have agreed to play on Turkey Day.

Outside of turkey, football is the best thing about Thanksgiving. You show up at a relative’s house and make small talk before focusing on the NFL’s three matchups of the day. The Cowboys lose in hideous fashion… it’s a great holiday.

In the state of Texas, a bitter in-state rivalry that split households into two corners once dominated Thanksgiving night before — and after — the NFL added a prime-time game in 2006. Texas and Texas A&M finished their regular seasons with the most anticipated game of the year.

When Texas A&M left for the SEC after the 2011 season (thank you Justin Tucker), Thanksgiving night became boring. Texas has begun to play random opponents on the Friday after, while the Aggies try to force a hatred between them and LSU.

Since then, both schools have struggled on Thanksgiving weekend. Texas has a 3-6 record against various opponents, while Texas A&M is 2-7 vs LSU.

With the time slot open, another heated in-state rivalry has taken center stage.

Mississippi State and Ole Miss compete for the Golden Egg Trophy every season. Outside of the Iron Bowl, the Egg Bowl is the most heated rivalry within the SEC.

On Thursday, the conference announced the annual matchup will once again take place on Thanksgiving night. Mississippi State will host the game this season, while Oxford will get its opportunity in 2021.

The Egg Bowl has taken place on Thanksgiving night 23 times in its history, most recently in 2019. Entertaining would be one way to describe the rivalry, both on and off the field.

The offseason is fully upon us with spring ball over. Of course, discussion of the Texas vs Texas A&M rivalry is going to come up. Recruiting is where the two schools battle these days, but a return to the football field is needed.

Steve Sarkisian was asked about the Aggies during his introductory press conference back in January.

Chris Del Conte and Ross Bjork: Please cancel your FCS (A&M) and Group of Five matchups. We want our Thanksgiving nights back.

Stunningly stupid act wrecks Ole Miss in Egg Bowl

Ole Miss WR Elijah Moore’s foolish celebration cost Ole Miss a chance to tie the Egg Bowl.

Ole Miss overcame a fourth-and-24 and numerous other hurdles to close within 21-20 in the waning seconds of the Egg Bowl Thursday. Elijah Moore caught the short TD pass to bring the Rebels within one of the arch-rival Bullodgs.

And then, Moore, a sophomore wide receiver, decided to play the fool in the end zone and wound up costing his team the game.

Moore started acting like a dog and lifted his leg, like he was urinating.

The official near the selfish celebration threw a flag and … that turned into a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Moore. More importantly, it moved the PAT attempt back 15 yards.

Ole Miss kicker Luke Logan missed the PAT and Mississippi State had a 21-20 victory And no one would blame the Ole Miss team and their faithful if they were, um, peeved. Extra peeved, too, because the victory makes the Bulldogs bowl eligible while the Rebels sink to 4-8.

Ole Miss star scores last-second TD, pretends to pee on the field, gets extremely costly penalty

Ole Miss lost the Egg Bowl in the wildest fashion after Elijah Moore pretended to pee on the field after scoring a last-second TD.

The Egg Bowl between rivals Ole Miss and Mississippi State featured a wild ending, and Bulldogs fans may never let Rebels fans forget how they lost in 2019.

With less than 10 seconds left in a seven-point ballgame, with Mississippi State leading 21-14, Ole Miss quarterback threw a two-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Elijah Moore. Moore’s questionable celebration choice, however, would end up dooming the Rebels.

After getting in the endzone to make the score 21-20, Moore dropped to all fours, lifted his back leg, and pretended to urinate on Mississippi State’s field.

Moore earned a 15-yard unsportsmanlike penalty for his celebration, which backed up the point-after attempt and made the kick much more difficult. Kicker Luke Logan missed wide right, handing Mississippi State the win in an unbelievable finish.

Naturally, everyone on Twitter made the same joke.

Ole Miss at Mississippi State odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Thursday’s Ole Miss Rebels at Mississippi State Bulldogs sports betting odds and lines, with college football picks and best bets

The Ole Miss Rebels (4-7, 2-5 SEC West) lock horns with the Mississippi State Bulldogs (5-6, 2-5) Thanksgiving night at 7:30 p.m. ET in the annual Egg Bowl in Starkville, Miss. We analyze the Ole Miss-Mississippi State odds and betting lines, while providing college football betting tips and advice on this matchup.

Ole Miss at Mississippi State: Three things you need to know

1. This is the only bowl the Rebels will be participating in this season, but they’d like to make it so the same applies to their rivals. A win by Ole Miss would deal Mississippi State its seventh loss and prevent a postseason berth.

2. Ole Miss might have a losing record, but it’s a darling at the betting window with a 6-1 against the spread mark across the past seven. Mississippi State is 2-5 ATS in the past seven overall, and 1-5 ATS in the past six inside the SEC.

3. The Egg Bowl has been defensive lately, cashing the Under in five of the past six meetings, and each of the past four in Starkville.

Prediction

Ole Miss 29, Mississippi State 27

Moneyline (ML)

Go lightly on OLE MISS (+110) in this rivalry game, as the Rebels will be motivated to keep Mississippi State (-134) nailed to the couch for the postseason. The Rebels rolled up huge yardage on the ground last week against LSU. QB John Rhys Plumlee was a one-man wrecking crew, going for 212 yards and four touchdowns on the ground, and RB Jerrion Ealy gobbled up 141 yards on 13 totes. Hotty Toddy!

New to sports betting? Every $1 wagered that Ole Miss will win outright will return a profit of $1.10.

Against the Spread (ATS)

There isn’t a lot of sense taking Ole Miss (+2.5, -110), unless you feel it’s going to lose by one or two points. The Rebels are a much better value on the moneyline. If you feel Mississippi State (-2.5, -110) will extend its school-record streak to 10 consecutive seasons with a bowl appearance, then get out your cowbell and back the Bulldogs. I will not be joining you.

Over/Under (O/U)

PASS. The projection of 58.5 is a good total. My lean would be to go Under based on the trends in this series, and the fact we just haven’t seen a lot of consistent football out of these two sides; however, I can easily see the game going Over, as Plumlee and the Rebels’ rushing attack raised eyebrows gouging potential playoff-bound LSU for huge chunks of real estate a week ago.
