Gates is in his seventh NFL season and first with the Eagles. Philadelphia signed him after Training Camp started, but he was released during the roster cutdown. Gates brings starting experience, having played in 57 career regular-season games with 39 starts.

Jenkins flashed his receiving ability in the preseason and made a push for a spot on the 53-man roster but landed on the practice squad. Jenkins spent time last season on the Eagles practice squad and is in line to make his NFL debut in Brazil.  Jenkins will be the third tight end behind Dallas Goedert and Grant Calcaterra.

Due to injury, the Eagles are without cornerback Isaiah Rodgers (hand) and linebacker Devin White (ankle).

Eagles waive tight end E.J. Jenkins ahead of 53-man roster deadline

Philadelphia Eagles waive E.J. Jenkins ahead of 53-man roster cutdown deadline

In a move that can only be described as surprising, the Eagles are waiving tight end E.J. Jenkins ahead of Tuesday afternoon’s 53-man roster deadline.

Jenkins had a strong training camp and preseason and was among the favorites to make the roster behind star tight end Dallas Goedert and Grant Calcaterra.

Jenkins went undrafted out of Georgia Tech in 2023 and signed with the Jets but was released at final cuts. Jenkins signed up for the Eagles’ practice squad in November before signing up with the Raiders’ practice squad in January.

He signed a futures deal with the Eagles on Jan. 22.

Jenkins had nine receptions during the preseason, for 66 yards and a 7.3 average yards per catch.

Jenkins could return to the practice squad, but he’ll also have his share of suitors on the waiver wire.

Browns workout five others in addition to Erik Harris during Steelers week

The Browns had six in for workouts on Friday.

This is standard procedure for the Cleveland Browns to bring in multiple players per week for a workout. They have done it every year under the era of general manager Andrew Berry. Yesterday it was reported that veteran safety Erik Harris was in town for a workout, but it turns out five others were as well as they prepare for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Last year, players like safety Mike Brown and Chester Rodgers were signed by the Browns after successful workouts in Cleveland. Brown is now on the 53-man roster of the Tennessee Titans as he was a gameday elevation three times for the Browns in 2022 as a special teamer. The team could be looking for more surprises like Brown this year to stash on their practice squad this season.

Here is the full list of players the Browns had in the building for a workout on Friday as they could be looking to churn their practice squad a bit.
