Coach Prime Factor: Every 2023 Colorado commitment since Deion Sanders was hired

Deion Sanders is getting busy rebuilding Colorado’s football program in his own image.

Deion Sanders is getting busy rebuilding Colorado’s football program in his own image.

Since Sanders was hired as the Buffaloes’ new head coach a couple weeks ago, hundreds of recruits have reached out and a few high-profile names have verbally committed – including 2025 five-star wide receiver Winston Watkins Jr., cousin of NFL receiver Sammy Watkins.

The Buffaloes have also added a few more recruits to their 2023 class since. Here’s a look at everyone who has committed  since Sanders was hired.

Oregon trending to flip 2023 Notre Dame running back commitment

Not the best way to start out week Irish fans

Last week we saw rumors that [autotag]Oregon[/autotag] was trying to flip current Irish commit [autotag]Jayden Limar[/autotag]. Well, as the saying goes, where there’s smoke, there’s a fire.

Just this morning the 247Sports crystal balls came rolling in for the Ducks to flip. It came from all over their experts, from national, Steve Wiltfong, to their Notre Dame reporters like Tom Loy.

This is clearly something that the Irish were aware of but have recruited well enough to deal with a recruiting loss like this. [autotag]Jeremiyah Love[/autotag] is one of the best running backs in the country. [autotag]Brandyn Hillman[/autotag] has the ability to play the position as well.

What is a bit concerning is that the Irish are struggling to retain some of their commits as the early signing period approaches. Who knows that’s going on with safety [autotag]Peyton Bowen[/autotag] but the Irish have seen [autotag]Dylan Edwards[/autotag] also decommit this month. It is part of the recruiting game.

Pac-12 team working to flip Notre Dame running back commit

Will Notre Dame hold on?

As Notre Dame looks to put the finishing touches on their 2023 recruiting class with the early signing period just a week away, a significant amount of effort remains in keeping the committed players from flipping.  We’ve seen commits pull off their pledges as five-star [autotag]Keon Keeley[/autotag] recently chose Alabama after originally being a Notre Dame commitment.  The Irish have also seen former cornerback pledge [autotag]Justyn Rhett[/autotag] change his mind and choose Georgia as well as running back [autotag]Dylan Edwards[/autotag] who recently flipped to Deion Sanders and Colorado.

Now Notre Dame looks to keep Oregon from flipping running back [autotag]Jayden Limar[/autotag].  Limar committed to Notre Dame while having Michigan, Oregon, and Arizona listed as his other finalists back in May.  Despite the commitment, Oregon spent time visiting in-person with Limar earlier this week according to multiple reports.

Limar is rated as a four-star talent out of Lake Stevens, Wash.  Following the recent flip from Edwards, only Limar and four-star [autotag]Jeremiyah Love[/autotag] remain as running back commitments so the need to keep Limar is obvious.

The proximity to home here obviously raises concern if you’re Notre Dame, as does the fact Oregon landed a commitment from quarterback [autotag]Dante Moore[/autotag] despite the Irish being the perceived runaway favorite for him earlier this year.

I’d be lying if I said I had any idea what Limar or pretty much any commitment/target is going to do at this point.  NIL has changed things forever and you never know where that bag of legal money may suddenly show up from to change a teenagers mind at the last minute.

Stay tuned…

Notre Dame football: 5 things to know for Dec. 9, 2022

Another crazy day to recap for the Irish…

What a whirlwind day Thursday was in the Notre Dame football world.  Normally the program’s all-time leader in sacks opting for the NFL would be the biggest story of the day but in this case, it was at best the third.  Eyes remain locked into the program’s seemingly every move as the 2022 season closes out and the foundation for 2023 gets set.

Before we get to the five things for today, would anyone be interested if I were to do a podcast based on these happenings a few times a week?  I’m on the fence but if that’s something you crave, it’s something I’m at least interested in.  Send me a message on Twitter if you like the idea.

Now – here are your five things to know for December 9, 2022!

Coach Prime and Colorado seem to be snagging Notre Dame commit

What was your reaction to the news?

On Wednesday, Notre Dame and NFL legend Joe Montana had some pleasant words about new Colorado head coach Deion Sanders, stating that he’d love to play for a coach with as much passion for football as the legendary cornerback has.  Well, perhaps a Notre Dame commitment saw those comments and wondered the same thing.

Alright, there’s a 99.9% chance that Montana had nothing to do with it but regardless, Notre Dame is down the commitment of a stellar running back in the 2023 recruiting class after four-star running back [autotag]Dylan Edwards[/autotag] pulled his commitment Thursday afternoon.  Edwards was originally committed to Kansas State before Notre Dame pushed hard for him so its hard to be too upset for him changing his mind.

Below is some of the leadup to Edwards’ de-commitment that has transpired in the last couple days.

Notre Dame loses one of their 2023 running back commitments

We wish him the best

Something had to give, as the Irish just accepted their 27th commitment of the class yesterday when Virginia athlete [autotag]Brandyn Hillman[/autotag] announced his commitment. It left many, including myself, how many players [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] would ultimately sign in the 2023 cycle.

Things have a way of working out and that’s exactly what happened today as Kansas running back [autotag]Dylan Edwards[/autotag] has decommitted from Notre Dame. The back had been committed to the Irish since August and went on to have a very impressive senior campaign and the timing of this decommitment is very odd as Freeman and running backs coach [autotag]Deland McCullough[/autotag] had just visited Edwards earlier in the week.

It’s an unfortunate turn of evens but the Irish aren’t left without other options. They still have [autotag]Jayden Limar[/autotag], Hillman and [autotag]Jeremiyah Love[/autotag] who can all play running back in the class.

Notre Dame 2023 wide receiver commit is recruiting a quarterback for the class

This would be a huge flip if it happens

There is a big hole in the 2023 Irish recruiting class: No quarterback is committed to Notre Dame. The courtship of [autotag]Dante Moore[/autotag] pretty much ended when [autotag]CJ Carr[/autotag] (Class of 2024) committed, even though they aren’t in the same class.

Over the last few months, the Irish have been kicking the tires with more than a few quarterback prospects but have nothing to show for it. However, Notre Dame wide receiver commit [autotag]Braylon James[/autotag] is recruiting a new name for the class, Kansas State commit [autotag]Avery Johnson[/autotag]. The Wildcats commit already has an Irish offer, and he chose KSU over Oregon, Washington and others.

The tweet from James comes after Johnson tagged another Irish commit, running back [autotag]Dylan Edwards[/autotag] on flipping to Kansas State. With the early signing period coming up, there are going to be a good number of flips happening, let’s hope Johnson is the one flipping in this scenario.

Which Notre Dame 2023 commits ESPN is impressed with

Impressive indeed

As we all know it’s a big recruiting weekend for Notre Dame, with Clemson coming into town on Saturday evening. It is the “biggest” home game on the schedule for the season and Notre Dame know it. They’re playing to it as well, having a large contingent of recruits on campus.

That doesn’t mean that they have turned their heads from what should be a banner 2023 class. With the early signing period rapidly approaching, ESPN looked at their top rated classes, the Irish coming in 3rd overall (premium), and which recruits stick out. Find out below which Notre Dame verbals impressed the recruiting staff as ESPN.

Scouts view: What the newest Notre Dame commits brings to South Bend

All of Irish nation should be celebrating this verbal

The Irish scored a big commitment on Saturday afternoon as Missouri running back [autotag]Jeremiyah Love[/autotag] verbally pledged to [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] and the Fighting Irish. Although it seemed like we knew this was going to happen after a recent report, it’s still a coup for the 2023 Notre Dame Football recruiting class. Here is my scouts view of what Love brings to South Bend.

First off, not a ton of clips from this season, just highlight of four games, but it is enough to get a very good idea of the kind of player Love can be. He’s not afraid to be a bruising back, even though his frame at six-feet and 190-pounds wouldn’t suggest so. The explosiveness is very impressive, during his highlight reel it seemed like every touch there was a chance for Love to take it to the house.

An area that I was extremely impressed by was his pass catching ability, Love has hands like a wide receiver and the speed to run by any linebacker and get into the secondary. A literal home run threat anytime he touches the ball.

Now his player comparison should be one that if you were watching college football today you would recognize, Alabama running back [autotag]Jahmyr Gibbs[/autotag]. Love is a bit taller than the five-foot-eleven-inch Crimson Tide back, and their weight is identical. They are very close in recruiting ranking, both inside the top 100 with most of the elite teams in the country offering scholarships. The skill sets are almost identical and if you look at the box score for Alabama today, you can see the impact Gibbs has and what the Irish should get getting in the near future.

A more Irish comp would be [autotag]Kyren Williams[/autotag], but Love is a much bigger back than the former Notre Dame star. Either way, it’s a great pick up for the Irish and with [autotag]Dylan Edwards[/autotag] and [autotag]Jayden Limar[/autotag], it gives Notre Dame a great trio of backs for the future of the program.

Notre Dame lands big-time running back commitment, Jeremiyah Love

HUGE get for Notre Dame!

Notre Dame has landed one of the top running backs in the 2023 recruiting cycle as [autotag]Jeremiyah Love[/autotag], a four-star prospect out of St. Louis made his pledge to [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] and the Irish official on Saturday.  Love is on campus this weekend making another visit and made his pledge in front of family and friends.

Make no bones about it, Notre Dame is getting one of their top running back recruits in recent memory.  He can obviously run and is dangerous in the passing game as well.

Notre Dame won this recruiting battle over a few big-time programs including Alabama, Arkansas, Michigan, Oregon, Texas A&M, and others.  He becomes the third running back commit this cycle for the Irish, joining speedster [autotag]Dylan Edwards[/autotag] and [autotag]Jayden Limar[/autotag], both who are also four-star prospects according to 247Sports.

Love is listed at 6-0, 190-pounds and comes from Christian Brothers College High School in St. Louis.  He ranks as the 66th overall player nationally according to the 247Sports composite ratings.
