Obi Toppin pulled off the Eastbay dunk after blocking a 3-pointer and fans were in awe

Obi Toppin is ready for another appearance in the dunk contest

You know how it goes with Knicks fans, man. They will be absolutely over the moon about nearly anything remotely positive that happens to their team. Remember their reaction after the first win of the season last year against the Celtics? Good times. Goooood times.

Today, though, they actually have something to be extremely pumped about. Obi Toppin just made one of the coolest back-to-back plays we’re probably going to see all year long and the regular season hasn’t even started yet.

Toppin blocked a 3-pointer on one end which is already generally super hard to do. But then, he followed that up by pulling out an East Bay dunk mid-game.

It was truly spectacular.

That’s a dunk contest dunk — in the middle of a game. To pull that out? Man. That’s a lot of skill and confidence.

Knicks fans were here for it. Even regular NBA fans had to appreciate it. It was that good.

Boston Celtics well-represented in NBA’s 100 best dunks from 2021-22 video

With Jayson Tatum, Robert Williams III, and Jaylen Brown on their roster, it probably shouldn’t surprise.

The Boston Celtics were among the dunkiest ball clubs in the league in the 2022-23 NBA season. While that adjective might be entirely of our own creation, we’re pretty sure our point here is clear: with electric, hyperathletic stars Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum and Robert Williams III, the Celtics truly had the ability to flush the rock like no other team in the league.

So to see that Boston is so well represented among the NBA’s recent 100-best dunks of the 2022-23 season should not come as much of a surprise, with the Celtics making up a double-digit percentage of all the slams included by the league.

Take a look at the clip embedded below to see what flushes made the highlight reel put together by the NBA’s official YouTube channel while we wait for opportunities for Boston to add new ones for the 2022-23 season ahead.

The best Boston Celtics dunks of the 2021-22 NBA season

Boston players have sent opponents to entirely new dimensions with their dunks last season, and these are the very best of those posterizations.

The Boston Celtics’ 2021-22 season is long behind us in the rearview mirror, but the dunks, flushes, and brutal posterizations unleashed by various Celtics players over the course of that season have, as dunks often do, taken on a life of their own that transcends the moment (and season) they occurred in.

Boston players have sent opponents to entirely new dimensions with their dunking prowess, creating those flashbulb moments that spawned the term ‘business decision’ for those without the heart to try and contest what is all but guaranteed to outlive the effort made to stop the flush in question.

And to commemorate a season full of such nasty, rim-rattling dunks by the Celtics as described above, fan videographer Tomasz Kordylewski assembled a full-season highlight reel of the best posterizations of the 2021-22 season by Boston’s players.

Watch the clip embedded above to see the best dunks of last season while we wait for the next to arrive in October.

Boston Celtics’ best dunks from the 2021-22 NBA season

All the best flushes from the regular season.

If there is any single basketball play that gets the fans in the stands and watching at home into a game, it’s a slam dunk thrown down with authority. And in the Boston Celtics’ 2021-22 NBA season, there have been a host of them keeping the crowd engaged through the course of the regular season.

We have seen plenty of oops thrown to starting center Robert Williams III and backup big Daniel Theis, and more than a few posters thrown down in transition by All-Star forward Jayson Tatum and his star counterpart on the wing Jaylen Brown.

Even reserve big man Luke Kornet even managed to throw an oop from teammate Sam Hauser.

To get yourself into the mood for Sunday’s first-round battle with the Brooklyn Nets, check out this video of the Celtics’ best dunks in the 2021-22 regular season.

Zion Williamson made a hardwood floor look like a trampoline in this video he shared on Instagram

“I don’t jump up. The Earth beneath me jumps down.” – Zion Williamson, probably.

Man. It’s been far too long since we’ve seen Zion Williamson playing actual basketball.

And I know it’s been far too long because when Williamson posted a video of him dunking on Instagram in an empty gym, there were a lot of people on the internet who were basically just like “please stay healthy and wake me up when you’re playing an NBA game.”

That is a sentiment I can appreciate, for sure. Obviously, Zion needs to stay healthy and we would all love to see him back on the court with the Pelicans.

But y’all. In the meantime, this dunk? THIS. DUNK. This thing is insane. Just…just look at it, man.

OK. So, let’s keep it a buck, right? This dunk probably wins the dunk contest this year. It is an off-the-backboard between-the-legs dunk. That’s…not easy. At all.

But that’s not even what has me tripping here. It’s the sheer force that this man is jumping with that has my jaw to the floor.

This is a hardwood floor he is leaping off of pretty effortlessly. But just look at the floor when he jumps. IT BENDS. This dude is pushing the earth down as he jumps up.

This is ridiculous, man. Y’all want to talk about a thunderous dunk? That’s what this is. So, yeah, y’all can sleep on this dunk until he’s on an NBA court. But don’t get mad when he’s dunking on your squad like this.

There were some fans out there who certainly appreciated this properly. Good morning to them and them only.

WATCH: The best of Boston’s Jaylen Brown dunking on his competition (sans one)

Can you name the missing dunk?

After Charlotte Hornets forward Miles Bridges’ having ended up on the receiving end of a vicious dunk by Boston Celtics All-Star forward Jaylen Brown, the NBA decided to assemble a collection of the (in their estimation) best flushes yet thrown down by the Georgia native in the course of his still-young career.

And there are plenty to choose from! The rising Celtics star is a force in transition, frequently putting competitors on a poster no matter their repute or standing in the league. As a matter of fact, a number of fans are already noting one particularly high-profile dunk from Brown’s past that for some inexplicable reason did not make the mix created by the NBA in the video embedded below.

Watch it for yourself and see if you can guess the absent dunk in question while enjoying what Brown can do when he feels like punishing the rim.

SPECIAL DELIVERY: Social Status and Nike might have the best sneaker of the year

This is one of the most meaningful sneakers you’re going to see.

There have been a number of good sneakers that have come out in 2021. You could list them all.

The Union Jordan 4, the A Ma Maniere Jordan 3, the ‘What The Paul’ SB Dunks. And that’s just the top of the list.

But none of them feel quite as excellent as Social Status’ new Chocolate Milk Dunks from its new Free Lunch collection. These Dunks are incredible. The details are phenomenal. The materials are unmatched.

But what makes them even better is the story they come with.

They were inspired by the National School Lunch Act — the program that has provided children from low income households with free lunch for decades.

James Whitner, the designer of the shoe and the owner of Social Status, was one of those kids. And he’s using these sneakers to tell us that story.

You can hear more about it in this week’s episode of Special Delivery where Sykes and crew unbox the Chocolate Milk dunk.

Looking back at the best dunks in Houston Rockets franchise history

With the NBA’s annual slam dunk contest on tap for Sunday, we look back at some of the most memorable dunks in the history of the Rockets.

With the NBA’s annual slam dunk contest on tap for Sunday night, we’re looking back at some of the most meaningful and impressive dunks in the history of the Houston Rockets franchise.

No player has ever won the dunk contest as a member of the Rockets. That said, Steve Francis finished second as part of a spectacular showing in 2000, and likely would have won in most years. That year’s winner was Vince Carter, who had perhaps the greatest dunking night of all-time.

The Rockets, however, have certainly had their share of memorable in-game dunks — including on the league’s biggest stage, in the playoffs. Looking back over many years, here’s a roundup of some of Houston’s most impressive and significant dunks over the years.

See every angle of Anthony Edwards’ earth-shattering dunk over Yuta Watanabe

This is one of the best dunks ever. Wow.

There are always some really good in-game dunks. You know, the ones that are really fun and cool. The ones that showcase a player’s athleticism — maybe they double-clutch it, or maybe it was a really cool reverse over someone. Those are legitimately great dunks.

But then, there are the ones that are just earth-shattering. The ones that turn into moments that you’ll never forget. The literal posters that will live forever.

That was Anthony Edwards’ dunk on the Raptors’ Yuta Watanabe on Friday night. It was legitimately one of the greatest dunks of all-time.

He absolutely ferocity on this thing. I mean, my goodness. Poor Yuta. At least he tried, right?

This is Deandre Jordan on Brandon Knight levels of dunkage, but instead of being a big man Edwards is a guard. Which somehow, makes this thing even more spectacular.

Some people will talk about his stats. Some people will talk about the game. None of that stuff matters. This is legitimately one of the best dunks ever and it will be appreciated as such.

We have so many angles to watch it at. Here’s a look at every single one.

WATCH: New Orleans Pelicans Release Video Of Jaxson Hayes’ Dunks

To celebrate his great rookie season, the Pelicans put out a video showing Hayes’ best dunks of the season. You can watch it here:

The NBA was at the center of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, being the first of many sporting leagues to cancel their season. Before the issue became prevalent in the association though, Jaxson Hayes was enjoying a stellar rookie season with the New Orleans Pelicans.

Being drafted 10th overall in the 2019 Draft, Hayes had been playing with five other rookies, including Zion Williamson. On average, he was playing 17 minutes a game and putting up good numbers.

Scoring 7.5 points, securing four rebounds, and blocking nearly one shot per game, Hayes was a presence in the paint on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball.

To celebrate his great rookie season, the Pelicans’ Twitter account put out a video showing Hayes’ best dunks of the season. You can watch it here:

The young center played in 56 of New Orleans’ 64 games this season. When the NBA does return to either finish up the 2019-2020 season or to start new in 2020-2021, Hayes will continue to be a key piece for a young Pelicans squad.
