Duke’s Graham Barton mocked to the Packers in USA TODAY Sports’ latest mock draft

Duke offensive lineman Graham Barton was mocked to go to the Green Bay Packers in the first round in USA TODAY Sports’ latest 2024 mock draft.

Duke offensive lineman Graham Barton was mocked to go 25th overall to the Green Bay Packers in Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz’s latest USA TODAY Sports’ NFL mock draft, which was released on Monday morning.

Barton played four seasons with the Duke Blue Devils, starting at center as a freshman before moving to tackle for the final three years. He earned All-American honors in 2022 and 2023. Barton was also named a First-Team All-ACC honoree the past two seasons.

Barton, who is 6-foot-5 and 313 pounds, will likely return to the interior as a guard in the NFL. His combine and pro day measurables gave him one of the highest relative athletic scores in the history of guard prospects.

If he does go in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, he would be the third Duke player to be selected in the first round since 1988, joining quarterback Daniel Jones (No. 6 overall to the New York Giants in 2019) and offensive lineman Laken Tomlinson (No. 28 overall to the Detroit Lions in 2015).

Blue Devils confirm they are in EA Sports College Football 25

Duke football will officially be included in EA Sports College Football 25, the return of the highly anticipated college football video game series.

It was probably a foregone conclusion for most Duke fans at this point, but the Blue Devils are officially in the game.

Duke football announced on Thursday through social media that the team would be included in EA Sports College Football 25 when it releases this summer.

Blue Devil fans will (more than likely) be able to work with new quarterback transfer Maalik Murphy and other Duke stars as they build a dynasty in Durham.

Coaches, like new Blue Devils leader Manny Diaz, will reportedly not be in the game.

An ESPN report on Thursday said players do need to opt in for their name, image, and likeness to be used in the new game. Players would be compensated $600 and a free copy of the game if they chose to do so.

The game does not yet have an official release date, but it is expected in the summer of 2024.

What are Graham Barton’s most popular NFL landing places?

We’re still two months away from the NFL Draft, but Mock Draft Database has four teams showing up over and over for Duke lineman Graham Barton.

It’s never too early to start thinking about the NFL draft, especially with the Super Bowl now in the rearview mirror.

Duke offensive lineman Graham Barton still needs to get through the pre-draft process, including the NFL Combine at the end of February, but the NFL Mock Draft Database has kept a close eye on his traction from draft experts, and the same four teams show up routinely.

A scroll through Barton’s recent spots in national mock drafts show almost every team between 20th and 32nd in the first round. In fact, the Blue Devil is so spread out that the site’s consensus mock draft has him listed as one of the few players without a majority landing spot in the first round. However, the Miami Dolphins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, San Fransisco 49ers, and Green Bay Packers appear more than anyone else.

The numbers are backed up by some recent big names, too. PFF’s Trevor Sikemma and ESPN’s Field Yates gave Barton to Tampa Bay in their recent projections, and The Ringer’s Benjamin Solak tracked Barton to Green Bay in his first-round mock.

As the draft order stands right now, the Dolphins own the 21st pick. Green Bay follows at 25th, with Tampa Bay one spot behind them at 26th. The 49ers own the 31st pick, the second-to-last selection of opening night.

The site tracks Barton as the 30th-ranked player in the 2024 class, according to an average of the big boards in its database, and the Duke lineman is selected in the first round of 53.6% of the mock drafts tracked.

Manny Diaz hire given a ‘B’ by On3’s Coaching Carousel report card

Jesse Simonton released his grades for all college football coaching hires in this past cycle. See what grade he gave Diaz and how he stacked up to the others.

On3’s Jesse Simonton released his grades for the biggest coaching hires in college football on Thursday, and he decided the Blue Devils earned a B for new coach Manny Diaz.

Diaz, who had spent his previous years as a head coach at Miami and as the defensive coordinator at Penn State, was announced in early December.

During his tenure with the Hurricanes, he compiled a 21-15 record and led his team to at least six wins in all three seasons, and the Nittany Lions had one of the best defenses in the country with 13.5 points allowed per game last season

B was actually the most common grade given in the post. Of the 12 coaching hires mentioned in Simonton’s post, 10 of them were given at least a B, and five of the names were given exactly a B.

Alabama’s Kalen DeBoer, Michigan State’s Jonathan Smith, and Houston’s Willie Fritz were the only hires given an A.

The Blue Devils start the Manny Diaz era at home on August 30 against Elon. The team’s spring game will take place on April 20.

College Football Power Rankings: Washington on the move, Tennessee drops after week 3

Washington impresses in win over Michigan State and Tennessee suffers huge drop in this week’s College Football Power Rankings.

Three weeks into the season, we’re getting a better idea of who teams are in the 2023 college football season.

Some still have a great deal to prove, even some in the top 10 of our power rankings. Others are showing they’re a legitimate force to be reckoned with in the College Football Playoff race.

Across the college football landscape, the contenders are beginning to emerge while the pretenders step to the side.

With another week in the books, here’s a look at this week’s college football power rankings.

Dropped Out

Kansas State: Lost to Missouri

2023 Safety Moussa Kane includes Oklahoma in his top 3 schools

The Oklahoma Sooners were included in the top 3 for 2023 safety Moussa Kane.

The Oklahoma Sooners may have lost one of their commitments in Ashton Cozart on Sunday evening, but they got some good news on the recruiting front as they made the top three for 2023 three-star safety Moussa Kane out of New Jersey.

Kane, a consensus three-star safety also included Duke and the Penn State Nittany Lions in his top three. He held an offer from Clemson as well from when Brent Venables was still the defensive coordinator. Stands to reason the Sooners have a great shot at landing the athletic safety from Blairstown.

Kane was a two-way player for Blair Academy, lining up as a wide receiver and at safety. On defense, he shows a good understanding of zone coverages and makes good breaks on the ball in the air. He does a good job sifting through the play in run support to attack the ball carrier. He arrives with force and wraps up when he tackles. On offense, he shows good athleticism and ball tracking, making plays in the air and after the catch. He knows what to do with the ball in his hands and exhibits solid speed.

Moussa Kane shared his thoughts on his top three with 247Sports and had this to say about Oklahoma:

“Coach (Brent) Venables has been recruiting me since I was a sophomore and he was at Clemson,” Kane told Brian Dohn of 247Sports. “Every time I saw him, you could see he has so much character and love for his program and the atmosphere in Oklahoma is great.”

“I’ve also started building a relationship with (cornerbacks) coach (Jay) Valai and (safeties coach Brandon) Hall,” he said. “I can tell they are high-intensity coaches that care about the players also.”

Currently On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine gives the edge to Penn State, but with Clemson present in On3’s top three, and OU in Kane’s top three, one has to think the Sooners have a great chance to land [autotag]Moussa Kane[/autotag] to their 2023 recruiting class.

Duke College Football Preview 2021: Offense

The offense stalled. It was able to move the ball from time to time, but it was crushed by turnovers and massive mistakes. The overhaul starts at quarterback with the door open 6-3 junior Gunnar Holmberg to step up and take over for Chase Brice – who transferred to Appalachian State – with Job One being to not give the ball away. More on that later.

The passing game needs more explosion after averaging just 11 yards per reception. 6-5 leading receiver Jake Bobo is back in a receiving corps loaded with experience, but top TE Noah Gray will be sorely missed. All-around back Deon Jackson is also done, but leading higher Mataeo Durant returns along with Jordan Waters to add a little more pop.

The Blue Devils had a hard time operating behind a line that was among the worst in the country in sacks allowed, but three starters return along with most of the depth. This isn’t going to be a blasting line that hammers out a big-time running game, but it has to limit the pressure.

Games vs. The Atlantic: Louisville, at Wake Forest

Missed Teams From The Atlantic: Boston College, Clemson, Florida State, NC State, Syracuse

Duke Blue Devils Football Schedule Analysis: Can the Blue Devils get by Northwestern at home? Do that, and it’s likely a 4-0 start to the season with Georgia Tech a home date coming up after the road trip to North Carolina.

However, there’s a run of three road games in four October dates. That might be a rough month, but the finishing kick gets three home games in Durham. Missing Clemson from the Atlantic is big, but going to Wake Forest and playing Louisville on a Thursday night won’t be easy.

Duke Blue Devils Football Schedule Best Case Scenario: 8-4. The schedule just isn’t all that awful. It’ll take something truly special to get to 8-4, but beat Northwestern, take out Georgia Tech, Pitt and Louisville at home, and it’s possible. There’s no Clemson or Notre Dame to face, and the Miami game is home, but …

Duke Blue Devils Football Schedule Worst Case Scenario: 4-8. It’s hardly a given that the Blue Devils can get past Northwestern, or Georgia Tech, or anyone in ACC play. They’ll come up with victories over Charlotte, North Carolina A&T, and most likely Kansas early on, and they’ll get one other win somewhere, along the way. But it’s highly possible that it could be about it, especially with all of the road games in the middle of the season.

5. College Football News Preview 2020: Duke Blue Devils Offense 3 Things To Know

The offense fizzled late in the year – bottoming out with a four-game stretch scoring a total of 44 points – to finish 94th in the nation in scoring and 114th in total offense.

That’s not how a David Cutcliffe attack is supposed to work.

Eight starters are expected back, but it’s still going to take a little work to make it all go, starting with finding the right quarterback.

Clemson transfer Chase Brice has the biggest upside – he chose Duke for a reason – with just enough experience to not be starting from scratch. Junior Chris Katrenick had the job for a little bit last year when Quentin Harris went down, but he only completed 3-of-13 passes for 49 yards with a touchdown and a pick, and he ran for a score.

It might be Brice or bust, which isn’t a bad thing for a passing game was 125th in the nation in yards per completion.

[jwplayer bdW91G1N]

6-0, 215-pound Deon Jackson is back after leading the team with 641 yards and six touchdowns, but the offense will likely be missing the rushing production of former QB Quentin Harris. Brittain Brown is transferring to UCLA, but junior Mataeo Durant is a more-than-tine No. 2 option.

The line was terrific at not allowing a whole lot of plays behind the line, and it wasn’t awful in pass protection. However, it has to be stronger for the ground attack – Brice isn’t the runner Harris was. Four starters return from a young group that used two freshmen tackles, and former top recruit Devery Henderson is transferring over from Stanford.

It’s a relatively untested receiving corps that has to rise up. It’ll be interesting to see if the downfield passing game is better with sharper quarterback play. A few more wideouts have to emerge, but top yardage guy Jalon Calhoun returns – he only averaged 9.1 yards per catch, though – and senior TE Noah Gray is back after leading the team with 51 grabs for 392 yards and three scores.
