This week, Chiefs Wire’s Ed Easton Jr. spoke to Kansas City Chiefs legend and fan favorite running back Jamaal Charles.

In his interview with Easton Jr., Charles, who recently teamed up with Kingsford to host the ‘Kingsford College Football Tailgate Tour’ at the Red River Rivalry tailgate, revealed his favorite food to grill, thoughts on recent criticisms of Travis Kelce’s, and his experience being the Chiefs’ drum honoree in Week 5.

“I like lamb chops, and I do oxtails sometimes, as well as turkey legs, man, and I’ll smoke and barbecue chicken wings,” Charles said, when describing his favorite meats to grill after hosting a successful Red River Rivalry tailgate with Kingsford. “I love wings. Man, I’m a big-wings person.”

Many critics questioned whether All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce had lost a step statistically due to the season’s slow start. Charles shot down that notion and defended his former teammate.

“I think I wouldn’t pay attention to that, all those politics, all that I think Travis (Kelce) is every once in a while, coming around with players who don’t really have a great start, they really don’t play well at the beginning,”  Charles explained. “I think it’s all fantasy football, man, as long as I think the Chiefs are not worrying about that. I think the organization’s not worrying about that. I just feel like they are winning. Who cares? I don’t think Travis cares about that much, either.”

The Chiefs announced that Charles would serve as the drum honoree before their week 5 Monday night game at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. He appreciated the honor of embracing fans again in Kansas City.

“It was awesome, and I got that Juju feeling again. Man, I feel the fans showing me love and giving me that energy. Man, I really feel like I am about to play,” said Charles. “I got hyped up, saying I was ready. I started doing dance moves. I never started doing I was on the drums up there, but it was. It was exciting to be out there and see the fans in a Monday night game and the guys pulling through for the Saints; it was awesome.”

Charles was selected by Kansas City in the third round of the 2008 NFL draft and played with the Chiefs for eight seasons.

The former Texas Longhorn’s role for Monday’s matchup was announced via a post to Twitter by the official account of GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium:

Kansas City native Rob Riggle announced as Drum Honoree for Chiefs’ home opener

Rob Riggle will be the Chiefs’ Drum Honoree during Kansas City’s home opener against the Baltimore Ravens on September 5.

The Kansas City Chiefs are set to kick off the NFL’s 2024 regular season with a Thursday night matchup against the Baltimore Ravens, their first meeting since a dramatic 17-10 win in the AFC Championship game in January.

With excitement growing around the start of the team’s 2024 Super Bowl campaign, many area-native celebrities are expected to be in attendance, including comedian and Kansas City native Rob Riggle, who will be serving as the Chiefs’ Drum Honoree for the Week 1 matchup.

Riggle, who moved to Overland Park, Kansas at the age of two, has been vocal about his fandom for years and frequently attends regular season games. The Step Brothers star has become one of Kansas City’s most recognizable ambassadors and appeared at Super Bowl LVIII earlier this year.

The comedian and actor is also set to host the ‘World’s Biggest Tailgate’ before Thursday’s game at 5 PM CST. Fans hoping to take part in the event should arrive well ahead of time for a chance to enjoy food, drinks, and games with celebrities and former Chiefs stars.

Chiefs legend Tamba Hali to serve as drum honoree for Wild Card matchup vs. Dolphins

#Chiefs legend Tamba Hali will serve as the drum honoree for Kansas City’s playoff matchup against the #Dolphins on Saturday.

Sparks are sure to fly during the Kansas City Chiefs’ matchup against the Miami Dolphins in the Wild Card round of the AFC playoffs on Saturday. The frigid weather conditions predicted for the game and Tyreek Hill’s return to Kansas City have been key storylines ahead of the elimination tilt, but a major announcement on Thursday has provided an extra layer of intrigue to the game.

Legendary pass rusher Tamba Hali has been chosen to serve as the drum honoree for the consequential playoff matchup and should have no problem getting fans riled up as they endure the frosty temperatures at Arrowhead Stadium.

Hali, who played for the Chiefs from 2006 until his retirement in 2017, spent his entire career in Kansas City and is among the team’s most beloved icons of his era. He tallied 89.5 sacks throughout his 12-year career with the Chiefs, and became something of an institution on Kansas City’s defense, especially when he was paired with fellow pass rushers Jared Allen and Justin Houston.

Backstreet Boys’ Kevin Richardson to serve as drum honoree for Chiefs vs. Bengals

Backstreet Boys’ Kevin Richardson to serve as drum honoree for Chiefs vs. Bengals

The Kansas City Chiefs have chosen their drum honoree for the Week 17 regular-season home finale at Arrowhead Stadium against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Kevin Richardson, known globally as a member of one of the most prominent singing groups in history, the Backstreet Boys, serves as the team’s drum leader against the Bengals on Sunday. He will get a chance to put on a show for Chiefs Kingdom ahead of kickoff, pounding the drum on the GEHA Drum Deck and getting fans excited for the game.

Pregame entertainment will include Goldpine, a recording duo, which will sing the national anthem, and the Topeka Police Department Honor Guard will present the colors. If the weather permits, A KC-130 tanker from the 139th Airlift Wing of the Missouri National Guard will conduct a flyover.

In 2021, days before Super Bowl LV, Richardson spoke exclusively to Chiefs Wire’s Ed Easton Jr. about how he became a die-hard Chiefs fan due in large part to his wife.

“My girlfriend at the time was a Kansas City girl. We started dating in 1992. Fast forward 28 years later, and she’s my wife. We have two boys, so she’s from Overland Park, Kansas. She went to school at Shawnee Mission High School. She’s Kansas City grown and grew up going to the Chiefs games with her family; her dad was a Chiefs’ ticket holder. She’s running around there in the 1970s at Arrowhead (Stadium) growing up as a kid, and so I married into the Chiefs,” said Richardson, “and ironically, (Marcus) Allen and (Joe) Montana had come over; it was a perfect fit, and I’ve been a fan ever since, all the way through Derrick Thomas, Tony Gonzalez, Priest Holmes, Will Shields, Trent Green, Larry Johnson, Dante Hall, Tamba Ali, all the greats.”

Richardson will get the crowd in a frenzy as the Chiefs look to clinch another AFC West division championship.

Chiefs’ Clark Hunt to be drum honoree for AFC Championship Game

In what has become an annual tradition, #Chiefs CEO and Chairman Clark Hunt will be the team’s drum honoree for the AFC Championship Game.

The Kansas City Chiefs have selected their drum leader for the AFC Championship Game rematch against the Cincinnati Bengals, and it should come as no surprise that they’re sticking with a recently-adopted tradition.

Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt will serve as the drum leader when his team takes the field in pursuit of his father’s namesake trophy on Sunday. In each of the last four seasons, Hunt has now served as the drum leader for the conference championship game.

The Chiefs won the Lamar Hunt Trophy for the first time when they defeated the Tennessee Titans in 2019. They won it for the second time in 2020 against the Buffalo Bills. They’ll look to earn it for a third time with a win over the Bengals on Sunday.

Other game entertainment includes United States Navy Veteran Generald Wilson singing the national anthem. He last sang the national anthem for the Chiefs during Week 2 against the Los Angeles Chargers. The Kansas City Fire Department will present the colors during the Anthem. Weather permitting, there will be a flyover conducted by four T-38s from Whiteman Air Force Base.

For the second consecutive week, Kansas City will have a halftime performance. This time they’ve tapped New York-based Rapper Fat Joe, whose known for several hits in the early 2000s including “What’s Luv” ft. Ashanti and Terror Squad’s “Lean Back.”

Chiefs legend Will Shields to be drum honoree vs. Jaguars in AFC divisional round

The #Chiefs have tabbed Pro Football Hall of Fame RG Will Shields for their drum honoree against the #Jaguars in the AFC divisional round.

The Kansas City Chiefs have selected their drum honoree for the AFC divisional round game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Pro Football Hall of Fame RG Will Shields will return to Arrowhead Stadium to serve as drum leader on the GEHA drum deck on Saturday. Last year, Shields served as an honorary coin toss captain in the AFC Championship Game, but this time around he gets to lead the team and fans in their pregame tradition.

A former third-round draft pick out of the University of Nebraska by Kansas City in 1993, Shields played for 14 seasons with the Chiefs, starting 223 games during his career. He earned 12 consecutive Pro Bowl selections from 1995 through 2006, with two consecutive First-Team All-Pro selections in 2002 and 2003. He’s one of the few players in Kansas City to have earned the NFL’s Walter Payton Man of the Year Award (2003).

There’s perhaps no better player to help set the tone for this playoff matchup. Shields played his last career regular season game against the Jaguars in Week 17 of 2006, winning the game 35-30. He was one of the NFL’s best interior offensive linemen for his entire playing career and should have no problem getting the raucous crowd at Arrowhead Stadium fired up before the first playoff game this year.

Other pregame entertainment includes international award-winning recording artist Michelle Brooks-Thompson singing the national anthem ahead of kickoff. The Kansas City Kansas Police Department will present the colors during the anthem. There will also be a flyover conducted by four F-16s from the 138th Fighter Wing of the Oklahoma Air National Guard, weather permitting as always.

The team also announced that Atlanta-based rapper Lil Jon would be performing at halftime during the game.
