Alex Highsmith doubtful to return with groin injury

Alex Highsmith injured his groin towards the end of the first half, and he is now deemed doubtful to return.

Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker Alex Highsmith was injured just as he nearly recorded a drive-ending sack on Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert with a little over one minute remaining.  Herbert scrambled away and threw for a first down, but when the dust settled, Highsmith was headed for the medical tent.

This isn’t the kind of body language you would expect out of a player attempting to rejoin the game, and we now know the reason why: Highsmith was deemed doubtful to return.

Injuries are utterly devastating the Pittsburgh Steelers three weeks into the regular season.  Alex Highsmith is a pivotal piece in the dynamic edge rushing duo with T.J. Watt, and now it will be up to second-year player Nick Herbig to shoulder the privilege of sacking the quarterback.

Seahawks have healthy roster heading into Week 1 against the Colts

The Seattle Seahawks have a healthy roster heading into Week 1 against the Colts, without a single player listed on the injury report.

The Seahawks departed Seattle for Indianapolis on Friday with one of the healthiest rosters they’ve ever had. Not a single player was listed on the injury report as questionable, doubtful or ruled out ahead of the Week 1 matchup against the Colts.

“I don’t remember another time,” coach Pete Carroll told reporters after the walkthrough. “I don’t. It’s a good thing. It’s a real positive.”

Seattle opted to not play most of its starters throughout the three-game preseason, keeping guys fresh and ready for the real deal. All the rest seems to have paid off heading into the season opener.

“It has to do with a lot of elements – the conditioning that the guys put forth to get ready, then once they got here, working with our training staff and strength and conditioning and all of that, and good fortune too,” Carroll continued. “It’s a pretty good list right now.”

The Seahawks will square off against the Colts on Sunday morning – kickoff is set for 10:00 a.m. PT.

Wild-card weekend inactives: Seattle Seahawks host Los Angeles Rams

A look at the players who are inactive Saturday for the wild-card game between the Seattle Seahawks and the Los Angeles Rams at Lumen Field.

The Seattle Seahawks have nearly the shortest injury report of their entire season heading into the wild-card round with only a handful of players with injury designations: defensive tackle Jarran Reed (oblique), cornerback Shaquill Griffin (hamstring) and running back Rashaad Penny (knee), who was a late addition to the report.

The Los Angeles Rams, however, have one of their biggest question marks of the year, with signal-call Jared Goff listed as questionable to play following his thumb surgery.

With kickoff just over 90 minutes away, here’s a look at the inactive players on Saturday for both the Seahawks and the Rams.

The inactive players for both the Seattle Seahawks and the San Francisco 49ers ahead of their Week 17 regular-season finale in Arizona.

The Seattle Seahawks will square off against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 17 for their regular-season finale. After already securing a playoff spot and winning the NFC West, Seattle has a chance to clinch a first-round bye with a win, a Packers’ loss and a Saints’ loss or tie. While it may be an uphill battle, the Seahawks will be playing for the No. 1 seed none-the-less.

Ahead of the matchup, Seattle had already ruled out three players: running back DeeJee Dallas (ankle), cornerback Jason Stanley (hamstring) and running back Carlos Hyde, who was a late addition Saturday due to an illness.
