Bills’ Sean McDermott explains benching Dorian Williams for Tyrel Dodson

#Bills’ Sean McDermott explains benching Dorian Williams for Tyrel Dodson vs. the #Patriots:

The Bills made an alteration to their defense against the Patriots and it stuck for the rest of the game.

In the 29-25 loss, the Bills (4-3) decided to turn one of their linebacker positions over to Tyrel Dodson. Rookie third-round pick Dorian Williams started there next to Terrel Bernard, but it wasn’t for long.

In the second quarter, Williams was removed from the game in favor of Dodson. The veteran saw out the rest of the contest against the Patriots (2-5).

Bills head coach Sean McDermott did not deny at all that Williams was benched.

“We were giving up a few plays there at that position,” McDermott said.

The coach went on to express he still has confidence in Williams.

McDermott’s full explanation on the substitution can be found in the Bills Live clip below:

Bills’ Sean McDermott on Dorian Williams: ‘He goes all out’

Dorian impressed in his first NFL start with the #Bills:

It’s going to be tough to be Matt Milano, but Dorian Williams is off to a strong start with the Buffalo Bills.

Milano, who sustained a season-ending leg injury, was replaced in the lineup by the third-round rookie in Buffalo’s 14-9 win against the New York Giants (1-5) last week.

Williams impressed onlookers and his own team alike.

“He is all about football and very serious in his approach,” Bills head coach Sean McDermott said. “I just love his attitude, the players love playing with him and have great respect for him at a young age because of his style of play. He goes all out.”

Williams registered 10 total tackles and will look to add to that next week against the New England Patriots.

But Williams isn’t going to get ahead of himself despite the praise. He knows he still has a lot to learn.

“I felt good,” Williams said. “I mean, there’s some things I definitely need to clean up, clean up some of the missed tackles some of the run fits. I’m always looking to get better.”

Bills’ Sean McDermott hints defense could see changes without Matt Milano

#Bills’ Sean McDermott hints defense could see changes without Matt Milano:

Without Matt Milano, most would expect the Bills defense is going to look a bit different. Not only is a supreme talent out of the lineup, some inexperienced ones are in his place.

Milano went down with a knee/leg injury against the Jaguars, which will keep him sidelined for an extended period. A mix of rookie Dorain Williams and Tyrel Dodson replace Milano.

With game planning now underway for the Giants post 25-20 loss to the Jaguars, head coach Sean McDermott acknowledged differences were on the way.

“You always have to be sensitive to the players you have out there,” McDermott said.

Even in now taking on more responsibility, Dodson knows it could be difficult for him and Williams to be Milano. They really can’t be him.

“Next man up. You know, obviously it sucks,” Dodson told the Buffalo News. “Linebacker room, we tried to play for him. He covers so much ground, makes so many plays, so we’ll go back in the film room and see how we can make up for Lano (Milano).”

WATCH: Buffalo Bills players finish Luke Combs lyrics

WATCH: #Bills players finish Luke Combs lyrics:

For the most part, western New Yorkers won’t be wishing Bills players would quit their day jobs. A select few certainly should not do so to start a music career.

Country music star Luke Combs is bringing his tour to Highmark Stadium. With that announcement, the Bills put a few players including Dawson Knox and rookie Dorian Williams through a challenge.

They were to guess some of Combs’ lyrics… and eventually signing broke out. Perhaps not the best kind, but it happened.

Check out how that went down in the clip below:

Injury report: Bills are mum on Connor McGovern’s status

Not a good week for #Bills injury news:

Another day, another practice that saw injury updates closer to the negative side of the ledger for the Buffalo Bills.

On Wednesday, the Bills had an injury scare with offensive lineman Connor McGovern. Slated to be Buffalo’s new starter at left guard, McGovern sustained a knee injury during the workout.

At the time, McGovern, who signed this offseason with the Bills, did not seem overly concerned. He did not return to practice, but McGovern remained on the sideline and watched.

Typically if something is seriously wrong, a player leaves entirely.

Even if the player doesn’t practice the next day, alarm bells don’t yet have to go off. This was the case for McGovern as he was out on Thursday.

However, head coach Sean McDermott did not help make anyone feel good.

“We’ll see how it goes. Right now it’s too early to tell,” McDermott said, updating McGovern’s stats via press conference.

Along with McGovern, multiple other Bills players missed practice as well. Here is the full rundown of players that did not take part in Thursday’s session:

Bills’ Connor McGovern added to lengthy injury report

How the #Bills’ injury report looked Wednesday:

A lengthy injury list for the Buffalo Bills keeps inviting players on board.

After a laundry list of injuries reported on Tuesday, the ensuing day saw another addition: Offensive lineman Connor McGovern. According to numerous reports from Bills practice, McGovern sustained a knee injury which saw him leave the workout.

Per ESPN, McGovern left the session but did not leave the field after putting a sleeve on his leg. Typically if a player has to depart the practice entirely, it’s potentially a worse sign.

McGovern signed in Buffalo this offseason and is expected to start at left guard.

Bills Wire will provide an update when information is made available.

In addition, there were a few other names to join and leave the injury list. Running back Jordan Mims was added to it. Per The Athletic, Mims was hit in the mouth during Tuesday’s workout. Meanwhile, defensive tackle Eli Ankou (calf) returned.

Here is a rundown of the rest of the injury report from Wednesday:
