Former USC wide receiver Dorian Singer transfers to Utah

Dorian Singer goes from Arizona to USC to Utah.

The transfer portal and conference realignment are creating some fascinating stories in college football for 2024. Dorian Singer, by transferring from USC to Utah on Monday, has created a new reality which will certainly draw reactions from a lot of fans at all three schools he has played for.

Singer played for Arizona in 2022. He transferred to USC in 2023. He will now play for the Utes in 2024. Stop and realize how wild this journey is.

Singer left Arizona, only for the Wildcats to win 10 games and become a nationally relevant program in 2023. Singer’s USC team was worse than the Arizona team he left behind. Now, Singer is joining a Utah team which has a chance to win the Big 12 championship in its first season in the conference. Cam Rising is back at quarterback. Brant Kuithe is back at tight end. Singer wants in on that action.

Arizona fans have to be watching this and wondering what might have been if Singer hadn’t left for USC. They also know that they might really need a player of Singer’s caliber if new Washington coach Jedd Fisch takes Noah Fifita and other top Arizona players with him to Seattle. Will the top Arizona players leave for Washington and stay with Fisch, or will they stay behind and wait to see whom Arizona will hire as its new coach? There’s a lot of drama as Arizona and Utah leave the Pac-12 and prepare for life in the Big 12.

Dorian Singer enters transfer portal after one year with USC football

This move is not surprising at all. This marriage simply did not work out.

The USC Trojans have now lost another player to the transfer portal, this one being wide receiver Dorian Singer.

After just one year with the Trojans, Singer is entering the portal for the second year in a row, per Pete Nakos of On3.

Singer led the Pac-12 in receiving in 2022 with the Arizona Wildcats. He then headed for USC and was expected to get a giant workload. However, with plenty of other options on offense, Singer caught just 23 passes for 276 yards and three scores, a big decline from a 66-catch, 1,105-yard season with the Wildcats the year before.

Singer failed to record more than four catches in any game this past year. He had four games with just one reception as Tahj Washington and Brenden Rice emerged as the leading options for Caleb Williams on the receiving front.

The Trojans also added Jaden Washington from D3 Tufts in the transfer portal earlier this week. They also offered Oregon State receiver Silas Bolden, so they have already adjusted to Singer’s departure, which was expected.

Dorian Singer has a case to make as a top-10 player in the Pac-12

Dorian Singer, viewed in isolation, might not seem like a top-10 player. Singer catching passes from Caleb Williams? Different story.

If you were to rank the 10 best players in the Pac-12 Conference for its final season in 2023, would USC receiver Dorian Singer make your list?

He made the list for one Pac-12 football analyst.

Jack Follman of SuperWest Sports has Singer, the Arizona transfer and Caleb Williams’ favorite target, as the 10th-best player in the Pac-12. Washington receiver Jalen McMillan is one spot ahead of him. Here’s what Follman wrote on Singer:

“Singer gained more than 1,100 yards last year with six touchdowns. He should blow up even more in Lincoln Riley’s offense with Caleb Williams throwing him the ball.”

That last detail might be the component which elevates Singer to the next level. On his own, he might not be a top-10 player, but with Caleb Williams as his quarterback, Singer is truly in position to put up next-level numbers for the Trojans this season. If he plays the way he played last year at Arizona — but in a Lincoln Riley offense with top-shelf talent surrounding him — he will definitely replace the production Jordan Addison provided for this receiver room.

USC’s Dorian Singer rated by 247Sports analyst as top-70 CFB player for 2023

Dorian Singer joined Caleb Williams in the top 70 from 247Sports analyst and former CFB player Blake Brockermeyer.

The countdown to the start of the 2023 college football season is on. USC is just 10 days from its opening game on August 26 versus San Jose State in the Los Angeles Coliseum. The arrival of a new season means, among other things, national player rankings.

247Sports college football analyst Blake Brockermeyer, a former college football player at the University of Texas, released his preseason rankings of the top 100 players in the country. Caleb Williams was naturally number one. The other Trojan to crack the top 70 was receiver Dorian Singer, the transfer from Arizona who made stacks of great catches last year against USC. Caleb Williams was so struck by Singer’s playmaking prowess that he asked the USC coaches if the Trojans were going to make a move for Singer in the transfer portal.

They did. Singer is really good on his own merit, but with Caleb throwing him the ball, Singer’s upside should rise considerably. Having Lincoln Riley create opportunities for these two playmakers will be something to watch as this season unfolds.

Pac-12 football experts know USC’s Dorian Singer is the real deal

Everyone is singing the praises of #USC’s new receiver.

It’s hard not to be impressed with USC receiver and Arizona transfer Dorian Singer. Pac-12 watchers know what he is capable of.

Here’s Don Smalley of Ducks Wire on Dorian Singer:

Why You Should Know Him: There’s a reason why Oregon, and every other school, tried to get Singer in the portal before he settled on USC. He was the best receiver in the conference and one of the best in the country. His touchdown stats, or the lack of them, indicates he was bogged down in the desert. Everyone expects those numbers to skyrocket in Los Angeles and Singer should most likely be a first-round NFL draft pick.”

Singer is an elite receiver on his own merits, but having Caleb Williams throwing him passes within a Lincoln Riley offensive system as a part of a larger unit which has strong running backs and a quality offensive line should enable Singer to flourish at the highest possible level in 2023.

The most important wide receivers to know in the 2023 Pac-12 season

The Pac-12 has a ton of talent at quarterback, but those guys need someone to throw the ball to. These are the receivers we’ll be watching in 2023.

As we continue our preview of the 2023 college football season in the Pac-12 conference, we are going to shift our focus from individual teams to individual positions. The last several weeks have been spent picking apart each school out west, finding where they improved the most over the offseason, and identifying what realistic expectations should be for them going forward.

You can see them all here: Arizona Wildcats — Arizona State Sun Devils — California Golden Bears — Colorado Buffaloes — Oregon State Beavers — Stanford Cardinal — UCLA Bruins — USC Trojans — Utah Utes — Washington HuskiesWashington State Cougars

Now we’re going to look at position groups as a whole in the conference. Whether it’s a quarterback or a linebacker, a punter or a safety, there are dozens of highly talented players out west. We want to go through them all, position group by position group, and highlight some of the most important names that fans should know at each spot.

— Quarterbacks

As we’ve seen in the first article of these position previews, the Pac-12 has some very special quarterbacks playing at the present time. But those signal callers such as Caleb Williams and Bo Nix wouldn’t be as special if they had some ordinary receivers to throw to.

From Washington in the Northwest to Arizona in the south, and in the mountains in Utah, the Pac-12 is littered with receiver talent that one could argue is the deepest and best ever this conference has seen in its long history.

Here are those receivers that has the Pac-12 buzzing as the 2023 season approaches.

Who has the most talented wide receiver room in the Pac-12?

Washington has Rome Odunze and Jalen McMillan. Oregon has Troy Franklin and Tez Johnson. Who in the Pac-12 has the most talented WR room?

It’s the offseason, which means that for a large majority of the college football world, it’s time to rank things.

Be it teams, schedules, players, or recruiting classes, fans always love a chance to pit their favorite school up against the best of the best in their conference or in the nation at large, seeing how they stack up against the rest.

While we’ve spent a lot of time talking about the quarterbacks in the Pac-12 — and for good reason — we decided to take a closer look at the wide receivers in the conference this week. On Monday we ranked the top 25 pass-catchers out west, showing which QB in the Pac-12 had the best guys to throw to. Now we want to build off of that ranking and see which team is best suited when it comes to overall WR talent.

This early in the offseason, it’s hard to know which guys are going to step up and be contributors for their respective teams. While there are a handful of new names that will likely break out and burst onto the scene, that can be hard to forecast. So for these team rankings, we looked purely at the talent at the top of the depth chart. Which QB has the most talented stable of receivers at the top to choose from?

Quite simply, which school in the Pac-12 has a WR corp with the most number of top-25 receivers? When you break it down like that, the process is pretty simple. Let’s take a look.

Texas WR Xavier Worthy makes On3 Sports’ list of Top 10 receivers

On3 Sports expects big things from Xavier Worthy.

Xavier Worthy could be in store for a bounce back season for the Texas Longhorns. On3 Sports listed Worthy as one of their top receivers for the 2023 season.

Worthy’s inclusion is no surprise, though he’ll have plenty to prove over the next year. Some made too much out of his noncommittal comments about his return before the Alamo Bowl. Nevertheless, Worthy is still one of the key members of the team. He will need to overcome his drop issues and adjust on downfield passes this season.

It comes as no surprise that Marvin Harrison Jr makes the list. Yesterday I opined that Harrison would be the best returning receiver in college football. It looks like others view the receiver in high regard.

Here’s a look at On3 Sports’ Top 10 receivers for the 2023 season.

Troy Franklin one of 7 returning Pac-12 WRs ranked among top 25

Of the 25 best returning WRs in 2023, seven play in the Pac-12. Oregon’s Troy Franklin is one of those seven.

It’s no secret that the Pac-12 conference is going to be highly competitive in 2023, with an insanely stacked lineup of veteran quarterbacks taking the stage to go at it out west.

With guys like Bo Nix, Caleb Williams, Michael Penix, Cam Rising, and Cameron Ward all returning for another season, there’s a good chance that the Pac-12 is among the best conferences in the nation. Of course, when you add in the fact that all of those quarterbacks will have some incredibly talented wide receivers to throw to as well, it makes it almost unfair.

This past week, 247Sports went through and ranked the top 25 returning wide receivers in college football for the 2023 season. Amazingly, seven of the top 25 all resided in the Pac-12. Here is the breakdown from all Power 5 conferences:

  • SEC — 8
  • Pac-12 — 7
  • Big Ten — 4
  • ACC — 3
  • Big 12 — 1
  • Other — 2

Here are all of the Pac-12 receivers who made the cut:

Pac-12 loads up on top-ranked transfers

The Pac-12 has landed some of the top transfer portal players, with USC nabbing Mason Cobb and Dorian Singer.

The transfer portal is almost always busy, and this year has been extremely busy for the Pac-12.

Some of the top players available on the portal headed to Pac-12 programs, with the Colorado Buffaloes landing Travis Hunter and Sehdeur Sanders after they hired Deion Sanders as the new head coach.

ESPN ranked the top 50 players in the portal this time around, and a large number of them ended up in the Pac-12, including a pair that landed with the USC Trojans (h/t Don Smalley of Ducks Wire).

Arizona transfer WR Dorian Singer is ranked as the sixth-best, and he will immediately step in and help fill the void once Jordan Addison goes to the NFL.

The other big get for USC is a much-needed defensive addition in the person of Oklahoma State LB Mason Cobb, the 28th-ranked portal player.

The top transfer on the list was Travis Hunter, who flipped from Florida State to Jackson State last year. He now joins Coach Prime in Boulder. Oregon’s Ajani Cornelius is the 5th-best in the rankings.

The others on the list are as follows:

  • Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders
  • Oregon State QB DJ Uiagalelei
  • Colorado WR Jimmy Horn Jr.
  • Oregon WR Traeshon Holden
  • UCLA DL Jake Heimlicher

With Lincoln Riley in town and the Trojans fresh off a New Year’s Six bowl game (even with the loss), they should continue to be major factors in the transfer portal.
