Michigan State football has extended an offer to a big-time cornerback prospect in the 2026 class.

Four-star cornerback Dorian Barney announced on Monday that he’s received an offer from Michigan State. Barney hails from Carrollton, Ga. and is considered one of the best cornerback prospects in the 2026 class.

Barney ranks as the No. 9 cornerback and No. 66 overall prospect in 247Sports’ rankings for the 2026 class. He’s also listed as the No. 8 player from the talent-rich state of Georgia.

Michigan State is one of nearly 40 programs that have offered Barney a scholarship, according to 247Sports. Some of the notable programs to offer Barney includes Alabama, Auburn, Colorado, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M nd USC.

Alabama loses commitment from 2026 four-star cornerback

The four-star had previously been committed to Alabama since May.

The Alabama Crimson Tide lost a member of their 2026 recruiting class on Sunday night, as Dorian Barney announced that he would be decommitting from the program to re-open his recruitment.

Barney had previously been a long-time member of Alabama’s 2026 class, as the talented prospect had been committed to the Crimson Tide since May of 2024.

According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Barney ranks as the nation’s No. 84 overall player in the 2026 class, rated as a four-star cornerback out of Carrollton High School in Georgia. Barney also ranks as the nation’s No. 10 overall cornerback, as well as the No. 11 player in the state of Georgia for the 2026 cycle.

With the decommitment of Barney, Alabama’s 2026 class now has only one commitment currently in four-star defensive lineman Vodney Cleveland, an in-state prospect out of Parker High School in Alabama. The Crimson Tide’s 2026 recruiting class also ranks No. 37 nationally according to the 247Sports Team Rankings.

“Business is Business,” the Alabama commit noted on social media.

It’s been a busy few weeks for Dorian Barney.

First, the four-star cornerback committed to Alabama on May 19, choosing the Crimson Tide over top programs like Michigan, Texas, Tennessee, Oregon, and Georgia.

Though incredibly early, his commitment instantly adds a bit of recruiting-game heft to the 2026 class for the SEC power under new head coach Kalen DeBoer — who looked at Barney while at Washington.

“The whole staff wants me there and I feel comfortable,” Barney told On3.

“Why I chose them is because of the connections and the development,” he also shared. “They are developing players, they have developed them in the past and they will continue to do so in the upcoming years. Also, it is about the relationships that I have with all the coaches.”

That news, however, was only the beginning of the recent headlines for the top 10-rated CB.

Now, the Georgia product is switching things up ahead of his junior season, announcing via X (formerly Twitter) that he’s transferring from Peachtree Ridge (Suwanee, Ga.) to Carrollton (Ga.).

Business is business, indeed.

The Trojans program has been a juggernaut in the Peach State, winning seven state titles and 32 regionals. With highlight-reel athletes like quarterback Julian Lewis, the team hung around the USA TODAY Sports Super 25 all season in 2023, but a November loss to a tough Walton (Ga.) team knocked them out of the final ranking. The team finished at a respectable 11-3.

Barney’s addition instantly makes the 2024 roster one of the best overall in the country, which now has a secondary that features the new transfer alongside fellow ’26 class standout and five-star safety Zelus Hicks, and Antonio Cromartie Jr. (class of 2025).

The Alabama Crimson Tide secured a commitment from 2026 cornerback Dorian Barney on Sunday afternoon.

The Alabama Crimson Tide landed their second commitment in two days. On Sunday, 2026 four-star cornerback Dorian Barney announced his commitment to the Crimson Tide. 2026 four-star safety Jamarrion Gordon committed to Alabama on Saturday.

Barney plays for Peachtree Ridge High School in Suwanee, Georgia. He is listed at 6-foot-1 and 170 pounds. Barney chose the Crimson Tide over other programs like Georgia Bulldogs, Florida State Seminoles, South Carolina, and USC Trojans.

Barney had an impressive sophomore season for the Lions. He recorded 32 tackles, two tackles for loss, and four interceptions.

Alabama now has commitments from two defensive backs in the 2026 class. It will be interesting to see if any other prospects commit to the Crimson Tide in the near future.

LSU makes top 12 for 4-star 2026 cornerback from Georgia

Georgia is a 20% favorite to land Dorian Barney per On3.

One of the top cornerbacks in the 2026 recruiting class has narrowed his list of finalists down to 12 schools. Brian Kelly and the LSU Tigers have made the list.

LSU joins Alabama, Ohio State, Florida State, Oklahoma, Clemson, Colorado, Georgia, Tennessee, Notre Dame, USC and South Carolina in the running for a four-star cornerback from Suwanee, Georgia.

There are currently no Crystal Ball projections for Barney but Georgia is a 20% favorite to land him per On3. 2025 cornerback prospect Dorian Barney announced his top 12 schools.

Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, Florida State, Texas A&M, LSU, USC, Clemson, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Notre Dame and Colorado are Barney’s top 12 schools.

The 6-foot-1, 170-pound four-star cornerback prospect is from Peachtree Ridge High School in Suwanee, Georgia.

The Vols are one of 10 Southeastern Conference schools to offer Barney a scholarship.

Tennessee offered a scholarship to Barney on Aug. 24, 2023. The Vols were also the first school to offer Barney a scholarship.

The Vols have seven commitments in its 2025 recruiting class: Quarterback George MacIntyre, defensive lineman Ethan Utley, tight end Jack Van Dorseiaer, cornerback Dylan Lewis, running back Justin Baker, wide receiver Joakim Dodson and cornerback Tyler Redmond.

The elite cornerback has recently visited the Clemson Tigers and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Barney has recent scholarship offers from Texas A&M, Florida, Auburn and Oregon. Barney also plays basketball for Peachtree Ridge.

Auburn offers elite 2026 CB Dorian Barney

The Auburn Tigers have entered the race for Dorian Barney, one of the top players in the 2026 recruiting cycle.

The Auburn Tigers extended an offer to four-star cornerback [autotag]Dorian Barney[/autotag] on Sunday, putting themselves in the race for one of the best cornerbacks in the country.

A member of the 2026 recruiting class, Barney already has a dozen scholarship offers, including from Florida, Tennessee, and LSU. The Suwanee, Georgia native has not visited Auburn.

He is the No. 39 overall player and No. 8 cornerback in the 247Sports composite ranking. The 6-foot-1, 170-pounder is also the No. 8 player from the Peach State.

Barney is coming off an extremely productive sophomore season for Peachtree Ridge. He recorded four interceptions, defended 10 passes, and made 32 tackles in 11 games. That was enough to land him on the second team of the MaxPreps 2023 Sophomore All-America Team.

While the 2024 recruiting cycle isn’t even finished yet, Auburn has already landed two promising 2026 prospects in Denairius Gray and interior offensive lineman Kail Ellis. The two commitments are enough to give Auburn the No. 8 class in the country
