Report: Wisconsin football targeting top Notre Dame staffer for new recruiting director role

Report: Wisconsin football targeting Notre Dame staffer for Director of Player Personnel

Wisconsin football is targeting Notre Dame top recruiting staffer Carter Auman to become its new director of player personnel, per multiple reports.

Auman contributed to Notre Dame’s top 15 classes in both 2023 and 2024 during his first couple of seasons with the Irish. The Fighting Irish currently boasts the nation’s No. 5 overall ranking in the 2025 cycle, again thanks to his work on the recruiting trail.

This potential move would give Wisconsin’s current director of player personnel Max Stienecker a new title, according to BadgerExtra’s Colten Bartholomew. Stienecker came over from Cincinnati with Luke Fickell after the 2022 season and has been a big part of the program’s recruiting efforts.

Those efforts have seen Wisconsin experience a significant improvement since Fickell’s arrival. In 2024, Wisconsin finished the recruiting cycle with a top-25 class and the program’s first-ever 50% blue-chip ratio. In terms of UW’s current class of 2025, the Badgers acquired commitments from 20 players thus far, enough to vault them into Rivals’ No. 4 spot in the national rankings.

The program has recently capitalized on a busy month of official visits. The Badgers’ recent addition of defensive lineman Wilnerson Telemaque is their ninth commitment since the start of June. Four-star OT Logan Powell, four-star LB Mason Posa and four-star WR Eugene Hilton Jr. are the top players in that group.

Auman’s addition to Wisconsin’s staff would only bolster the Badgers’ recruiting capabilities. With the addition of four new squads to the Big Ten this fall, UW will require top-tier talent to enter its pipeline to find consistent success down the road.

Texas A&M Football has parted ways with Director of Player Personnel, Kevin Mashack

It has been reported by multiple sources that Texas A&M football and director of player personnel, Kevin Mashack, have parted ways.

It has been reported by multiple sources, including GigEm247’s Carter Karels and AggiesToday, that Texas A&M football’s director of player personnel, Kevin Mashack, is no longer employed with the program. After joining the Aggies last April, changes to the position were rumored at the end of the 2022 season, but nothing was confirmed then.

The Job, which is already available on Linkedin, and in a brief description, every viable candidate will be tasked with,

“The Associate Athletics Director will oversee and coordinate all of the administrative duties in recruiting for the football program. He will oversee and manage the football office, football operations and the execution of football camps. The position will also serve as the athletics department liaison when organizations and other departments are working in conjunction with football. He will work closely with the head coach to put a process in place to help them recruit the best student-athletes for Texas A&M, as well as serve as a football ambassador both within and outside of campus.”

Mashacks’ departure was more than confirmed after his official profile page on 12thman.com was eliminated; the longtime front-office veteran will surely be a hot commodity on the open market.

Mashack, who completed both his bachelor’s degree (sociology) and master’s degree (education) at TSU, his extensive coaching/personnel career spans more than a decade, spending time with Tennessee State (2007-2013, 2015-2021), sometime in the NFL with the Jacksonville Jaguars (2013-2015), and before joining the Aggies, spend a short time with Indiana University.

Chiefs executive Tim Terry attending NFL’s front office accelerator program this week

#Chiefs Director of Player Personnel & Pro Scouting Tim Terry will attend the NFL’s front office accelerator program at the December league meetings.

The NFL is hosting a continuation of their front office accelerator program at the league meetings this week from Dec. 13-14. A member of the Kansas City Chiefs football operations staff will once again be in attendance for the event.

Tim Terry attended the inaugural event at the May league meetings alongside Eric Bieniemy. He’s since been promoted from Senior Director of Pro Scouting to Director of Player Personnel / Pro Scouting. The event seeks to bring diverse groups of front-office candidates together for leadership development and networking opportunities.

“Club owners and executives are focused on building on the successful momentum of our Coach and Front Office Accelerator Program by continuing to engage with and develop this group of talented men and women,” said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, via press release.

This time around, the league has curated special content sessions with football operations experts, businessmen and academic leaders with the goal of preparing participants for future front-office opportunities.

With the NFL’s 2022 NFL season approaching its close, changes are on the horizon in front offices. It makes sense to get potential GM candidates in front of owners in an event like this at this particular time.

“The goal of our Accelerator Program is to foster relationships between owners and potential candidates for front office positions,” said Steelers President Art Rooney II, via press release. “Both the clubs and the Accelerator participants understand the importance of the exposure, professional development and networking opportunities of the Accelerator.”

The league hopes that the continuation of these development and networking events will fortify a diverse pipeline of executives and head-coaching candidates in the league moving forward.

Report: Detroit Lions to hire Ray Agnew as assistant GM

NFL Network’s Tom Peliserro is reporting that the Detroit Lions are planning on hiring LA Rams’ director of player personnel Ray Agnew as assistant general manager.

Detroit Lions general manager Brad Holmes continues to put together a strong front office during his first week on the job.

It was previously reported that Holmes was bringing in former GM John Dorsey as a senior personnel executive, and now NFL Network’s Tom Peliserro is reporting that the Lions are planning on hiring LA Rams’ director of player personnel Ray Agnew as assistant general manager.

Agnew, a former defensive tackle, was drafted 10th overall in the 1990 NFL draft by the New England Patriots, and over his 11-year career, he would also play for the New York Giants and St. Louis Rams.

In 2017, the Rams named him director of pro personnel, and over the past four years, he along with Holmes ran the entire scouting department for Rams’ GM Les Snead.

The Rams preach collaborative efforts in player acquisition — exactly what the Holmes is promoting in Detroit — and the two scouting departs would work together to evaluate players, both in the draft and free agency.

The collaborative efforts were a big reason the Rams drafted Aaron Donald. Holmes put in a ton of leg work evaluating Donald, as illustrated by The Athletic’s Vincent Bonsignore, and when Agnew began his assessment, he instantly pounded the table to acquire him.

“Ray (Agnew) was a huge advocate of Aaron (Donald),” said Snead, via Kimberley Martin of Yahoo Sports. “And because Ray is such a steady presence, when he gets excited about someone, you can just feel, ‘OK, there’s a good chance this guy is going to be a really good player.’ He was on board with Aaron from the first moment he saw Aaron in the process.”

The trio of Holmes, Agnew, and Dorsey gives the Lions experience in all aspects of acquiring talent, whether they’re drafting, signing, or trading for players.

Texans interview director of player personnel Matt Bazirgan for general manager

The Houston Texans continue their general manager search, and have recently interviewed director of player personnel Matt Bazirgan.

The Houston Texans continue their due diligence when it comes to filling their general manager vacancy.

The team announced Tuesday they have interviewed director of player personnel Matt Bazirgan for the full-time job.

Bazirgan has had a hand in the construction of the current Texans roster, collaborating with then-general manager and coach Bill O’Brien and executive vice president of football operations Jack Easterby. Bazirgan’s current role oversees both the pro and college scouting departments while also evaluating the players on the roster.

The Bates College alumnus joined the Texans in 2018 after spending 14 years with the New York Jets. Prior to joining the Jets, Bazirgan worked as a graduate assistant coaching defensive ends and linebackers at Springfield College. In 2001, he was the receivers coach and an intern at Bates College.

With the Jets, Bazirgan worked his way up from being a pro personnel intern and college scouting assistant in 2004 to assistant director of pro personnel in 2013. In 2015, Bazirgan spent the next two seasons as the Jets’ director of pro personnel.

Easterby is the interim general manager. Houston has interviewed ESPN analyst Louis Riddick for the vacancy.

WATCH: Bengals are considering options other than Joe Burrow at No. 1

The Bengals are being thorough as they prepare for the 2020 draft.

The Bengals are being thorough as they prepare for the 2020 draft.

Cincinnati’s opportunity with the first overall selection is not one that the organization is decisive about yet.

Director of Player Personnel Duke Tobin explained to reporters this week that the team is evaluating options outside of just Heisman Trophy winner and National Champion quarterback Joe Burrow.

The Bengals’ own website explained Wednesday that the team is looking at other QBs and Sports Illustrated Thursday detailed how that evaluation process is, at this point, still a competition.

According to Tobin via SI, the Bengals are looking at Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa, Oregon’s Justin Herbert and Ohio State defensive end Chase Young.

Tobin, though, was clear that a quarterback is a priority.

“We know what Joe is on tape; we know what Tua is on tape; we know what Justin is on tape,” Tobin told SI. “Our role right now is to try to find out what we don’t know.”

From details regarding leadership style to how a QB adjusts to changing circumstances and what his personality is like on and off the field, the Bengals say they are considering everything about each player ahead of making the first pick.
