Four potential Devin Booker trade destinations

The Phoenix Suns assembled a “Big Three”, in theory, and yet only got worse. Much worse.

In the 2021-22 NBA season, they were legitimate title contenders. The Suns’ 64-18 record was good enough for the first seed in the Western Conference, and although they lost in the Conference semifinals in seven games to the then-Donciced Dallas Mavericks, they were a force to be reckoned with. They even were better than they were in their NBA Finals run of 2020-21, when their 51-21 record in the pandemic-shortened regular season was good for only the second seed.

At the February 2022 trade deadline, however, the Suns made a deal for Kevin Durant. And they have not threatened since.

To be clear, Durant is not the reason for their decline. He is timeless, aging about as well as a player can, cementing his legacy as a surefire Hall-of-Famer with season averages of 26.4 points, 6.2 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game in what is remarkably his 18th NBA season. Rather, it is everything around him that is at fault, and particularly the lack of assets with which to upgrade and/or rejuvenate the team. Be it in terms of cheap productive young players, draft picks or financial freedom, the cupboard is very bare.

Acquiring Durant emptied much of the cupboard, yet it was the follow-up trade for Bradley Beal that fully drained the accounts. Unlike Durant, Beal has not enjoyed a fruitful back nine to his career, and the supposed “Big Three” simply has never been. Because of the two trades in tandem, but particularly the Beal one, the Suns now have very few draft picks, one of the worst asset situations in the league, no spending money, and a 32-37 record that might not even make the play-in.

To that end, change must be forthcoming. Another season like this, when things have shown no signs of changing, would achieve nothing. The common assumption around the league – backed up by the heavy rumors of it nearly happening at last month’s trade deadline – is that Durant will be moved.

But what if it was Devin Booker that was traded instead?

Such a possibility has been raised in light of a report by Duane Rankin of the Arizona Republic on what such a deal may yield. Rankin reported that trading away Booker could net the Suns four first-round picks, replenishing much of the empty cupboard, albeit at the cost of one of the league’s better guards.

To be clear, nowhere did Rankin say that a trade Booker should or will happen; he merely inquired as to what a hypothetical one may yield. Indeed, owner Mat Ishbia has come out and said that a Booker trade will “never happen”, which would be an emphatic article-ender if NBA team owners always did what they said they would.

Phoenix’s situation however is suitably dire that these are questions they should be asking, too. It therefore merits a discussion as to which teams would be willing and able to acquire Booker, and for what. Booker says he will not ask for one, which is noble, but best business practice might involve doing it anyway, depending on the Durant offers.

There follows a look at possible trade destinations for Devin Booker, should the Phoenix Suns decide to trade him this summer.

Devin Booker had the perfect 3-word Luka Doncic trade response on Twitter

MIC DROP.

Devin Booker and Luka Doncic have had quite the rivalry over the years in the NBA that’s included some trash talk.

But it all began with the Luka smiling at Booker meme in 2022. And for some reason, the Dallas Mavericks revisited that in a tweet this past week, with the caption, “OK last one we swear.”

The timing couldn’t have been more coincidental. The Mavs just traded Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers, so of course Booker had to weigh in.

TRADE GRADES: Who won the Lakers-Mavericks deal?

Booker responded to that tweet and said, “Kept their word.” MIC DROP!

Biggest snubs from the NBA All-Star Game reserves, including LaMelo Ball

The 2025 NBA All-Star Game will not have LaMelo Ball and Luka Doncic.

We already knew the 10 starters who will appear in the 2025 NBA All-Star Game. But now we know the reserves who will join them as well.

Those who were snubbed from making an appearance in the starting lineup (which was chosen by fans, media, and players) had a chance to represent their conferences in San Francisco by earning a selection from NBA coaches.

Some deserving players including Victor Wembanyama, Anthony Davis, Jaren Jackson Jr., Cade Cunningham, and Evan Mobley all got some love.

Unfortunately for the following players, however, these players did not get the nod. They could still get a call as alternates, however, if they are chosen by the commissioner should one or more player get hurt before the NBA All-Star Game on February 16.

Charlotte’s LaMelo Ball is the biggest surprise considering he led fan voting among players at his position in the East and he finished third among player voting. He had a much stronger voting from fans than media, though.

Meanwhile, Dallas star Luka Doncic finished third among fans among West guards and fourth among media members. His teammate, Kyrie Irving, was fourth among players and fourth among fans.

Here are the most notable snubs, sorted based on voting results:

  • Ball, LaMelo (CHA)
  • Doncic, Luka (DAL)
  • Irving, Kyrie (DAL)
  • Banchero, Paolo (ORL)
  • Young, Trae (ATL)
  • Morant, Ja (MEM)
  • Maxey, Tyrese (PHI)
  • Fox, De’Aaron (SAC)
  • Wagner, Franz (ORL)
  • Allen, Jarrett (CLE)
  • Embiid, Joel (PHI)
  • Sabonis, Domantas (SAC)
  • Booker, Devin (PHX)
  • Powell, Norman (LAC)
  • Bridges, Mikal (NYK)

Devin Booker talks about what it meant to play in the Breslin Center

Devin Booker talks about what it meant to play in the Breslin Center

Devin Booker played a basketball game in the Breslin Center last night, and he even wore Michigan State gear, to boot. No, it didn’t happen in the way many hoped it would years ago, when Booker committed to Kentucky over MSU at the last minute, but Booker did hang around the team yesterday and seemed to enjoy his time in East Lansing.

After the game, Booker told Wood TV:

‘I’ve always wanted to be a Spartan, and now I’m finally given the chance to play in the Breslin.’

Look, I can empathize with MSU fans who are acting a little salty about this, but I’m never going to criticize a superstar like Booker for showing love to Michigan State. It’s cool.

Devin Booker reps Michigan State basketball in warm-up before Pistons vs. Suns preseason game

Devin Booker met with Tom Izzo, gifted shoes to the MSU team, and even warmed up in Michigan State gear on Tuesday night

Former Michigan State basketball player Mat Ishbia now owns the Phoenix Suns, and on Tuesday night, Ishbia brought his Suns back to his old stomping grounds in East Lansing to face the Detroit Pistons in the Breslin Center as part of a preseason exhibition.

Before the game, Suns’ star and Grand Rapids native Devin Booker gifted a pair of shoes to the Michigan State basketball team, met with Tom Izzo, and even warmed up in full Michigan State gear.

Here is Booker warming up in full Michigan State gear:

Devin Booker: LeBron James, Stephen Curry made his Team USA experience different

It sounds like Suns guard Devin Booker appreciated the opportunity to be LeBron James’ teammate on Team USA this summer.

In 2021, Team USA men’s basketball finally took the court in Tokyo for the Summer Olympics, which had been delayed for a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker didn’t shoot particularly well, he started in five of the six games played and earned a gold medal.

This year, he was again in uniform for Team USA, this time in Paris for the 2024 Summer Games. He played somewhat better, and he scored 15 points in the 98-87 win over France in the gold medal game.

This summer’s iteration of Team USA had two big members it didn’t have last time: LeBron James and Stephen Curry. Booker admitted that the two made his Olympic experience different this time around.

James was named the MVP for men’s basketball at the Olympics, as he regularly filled up the stat sheet in multiple categories and played unselfishly. In the six games played, he averaged 14.2 points and led the United States with 8.5 assists and 6.8 rebounds a game and a 66% field-goal shooting accuracy.

His experience playing on two other iterations of Team USA that won the gold in 2008 and 2012 no doubt helped with this group, which featured several players who were appearing in their first Olympic Games, including Curry, Joel Embiid, Anthony Edwards, Tyrese Haliburton and Derrick White.

The 2024 Paris Olympics are in the rearview mirror and to no surprise, the United States once again earned a gold medal in basketball.

Led by a trio of NBA veterans, the U.S. men’s basketball roster was thrilling. Basketball fans were delighted to see LeBron James play with Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant at the same time and the results were incredible.

Now that the Olympics will leave France and the United States will become the next host nation, the focus will shift to what the roster could look like in 2028.

It is an impossible question to answer because so much of this depends on health, interest, coaching, development, and various other circumstances we can’t predict.

But based on what we know so far, factoring in age and relationships with the USA Basketball, here is our best guess as of right now:

Noah Lyles denies beef with Anthony Edwards

U.S. track and field sprinter Noah Lyles caused some more controversy this weekend:

“Two of the biggest stars from the United States at the 2024 Paris Olympics were Noah Lyles and Anthony Edwards.

Lyles and Edwards both became first-time Olympic gold medalists this summer. Before testing positive for COVID-19 and withdrawing from the Olympics this year, Lyles won a gold medal in the 100 meter for track and field. Edwards was a standout performer on the U.S. men’s basketball roster.

Both gold medalists have signed endorsement deals with the shoe company adidas. Recent reporting suggests that there is potentially animosity between the two, but Lyles is attempting to squash those growing rumors.”

Steve Kerr praises Devin Booker’s performance for Team USA in Olympics

Steve Kerr made a point to praise the Suns guard for his performance in the Olympics.

While a lot of the attention coming off the final two games of Team USA’s run to gold in the Olympics surrounds Stephen Curry following back-to-back ridiculous performances from the Golden State Warriors guard, head coach Steve Kerr made a point to call out the performance of one specific player.

After Team USA secured gold with a thrilling win over France in Paris, Kerr spoke with members of the media in his postgame press conference. Before his presser came to an end, Kerr shared some high praise for Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker. Kerr called Booker Team USA’s “unsung MVP.”

Curry then took to Instagram to co-sign Kerr’s praise of Booker.

Via @CGBBurner on Twitter:

Booker was one of four players to score in double figures for Team USA on Saturday. Booker finished with 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting to go along with six rebounds and three assists in 28 minutes. Booker tallied 10 or more points in four of Team USA’s six games in Paris.

The best photos of Devin Booker’s Olympics run with Team USA

Taking a look at the best images of Devin Booker and his time with Team USA at the Olympics.

As most people predicted, Team USA took the gold medal in men’s basketball at the 2024 Summer Olympics. They defeated France in the final 98 – 87 to take the top spot.

The biggest struggle of the tournament came against Serbia in the semifinal. Team USA fell behind, and needed a big fourth quarter comeback to pull off the win.

Three former Kentucky Wildcats won gold along with Team USA. Devin Booker, Anthony Davis, and Bam Adebayo all contributed to wins along the way, and all three had shining moments throughout the Olympics run. Big Blue Nation had plenty to cheer for.

Booker, in particular, was one of the key players for Team USA. He shot the ball well, played solid defense throughout, and contributed with his passing and rebounding. His play was certainly a big part of their success.

Booker is one of the NBA’s best players, and continued that at the Olympics. Here are some of the best images of Booker from his time in Paris.

Steve Kerr calls former Kentucky star Team USA’s ‘unsung MVP’

Former Kentucky guard Devin Booker drew praise from Devin Booker for his performance in Team USA’s gold medal win over France.

Team USA secured a gold medal against France in Paris on Saturday, thanks in large part to a dominant fourth quarter from Steph Curry, who looked like his old self after hitting three three pointers in the closing minutes to put the game to rest and silence the home crowd.

Curry led the USA with 24 points on eight made three pointers, while fellow veterans LeBron James and Kevin Durant each had excellent games as well – giving Team USA’s older superstars an incredible curtain call.

After the game, understandably, most of the conversation was centered around Curry’s late game heroics or the play of James and Durant, but at the end of his postgame press conference head coach Steve Kerr made sure to give a special shoutout to former Kentucky guard Devin Booker for his play on Sunday and throughout the olympics.

“Devin Booker is an incredible basketball player,” Kerr said, per Ben Golliver of the Washington Post. “Nobody asked about him. He was our unsung MVP. I just wanted to say that.”

Booker finished with 15 points, six rebounds, and three assists in 28 minutes, while shooting 6-9 from the field.

His 28 minutes trailed only Curry, James, and Durant – a clear sign the 27-year-old is a critical future piece of Team USA going forward.

Team USA will attempt to defend its gold medal in Los Angeles in 2028, and while Curry, Durant, and LeBron are likely going to be done at that point, expect Booker, Anthony Edwards, Jayson Tatum, Bam Adebayo, and others to pick up the mantle and keep USA Basketball thriving for years to come.
