As the 2010s come to a close, here’s a look back at the 11 defining moments of the decade for the New York Giants.

The 2010s were a decade of highs and lows for the New York Giants. Unfortunately there were much more lows than highs.

But we here at Giants Wire have compiled the top 10 memorable moments of the decade, some of them not in any particular order.

Victor Cruz’ 99-yard TD vs Jets

On Christmas Eve 2011, the Giants came into the game with a 7-7 record and needed a spark to help jettison them past Gang Green and keep their playoff hopes alive.

Trailing 7-3 in the second quarter and facing a third-and-10 from their own one-yard line, Eli Manning hit Cruz underneath. Cruz then broke several tackles and raced 99 yards for the go-ahead score.

That play spring-boarded the Giants to a 29-14 victory. They carried that momentum the rest of the way, defeating Dallas the next week for the NFC East title and then ran the table all the way through Super Bowl XLVI.

3 things to know about Eagles WR Deontay Burnett

3 things to know about Eagles WR Deontay Burnett

The Philadelphia Eagles added more depth to the 53 man roster after the team promoted Deontay Burnett to the active roster.

Only 22 years of age, the Eagles are his fourth NFL team, but the former USC star boasts a ton of potential and ability.

With Burnett set to make his debut with the Eagles, here are 3 things to know about the smooth wideout.

***

1. Burnett committed to USC as a Blueshirt signee

Burnett originally committed to Washington State, but de-committed and since Burnett did not have an official visit or an arranged in-home visit, he was eligible for the advance scholarship.

The Trojans were able to bring him on as a scholarship player after the first day of fall camp, making him eligible to play in 2015, but his scholarship didn’t count until the 2016 recruiting cycle.

Eagles’ DeSean Jackson won’t return this week to haunt Giants

Philadelphia Eagles WR DeSean Jackson won’t return this week, preventing the New York Giants from facing their nemesis.

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson will not be on the field this week to ruin another holiday season for New York Giants fans.

Jackson is still in injured reserve and will not be eligible to return until the postseason, should the Eagles qualify, which they will do with a win over Big Blue on Sunday.

Jackson, the 33 year-old Giant killer, has been on IR since undergoing core muscle surgery in early November. He has appeared in only three games this season after starting the year with an eight-catch, 154-yard, two touchdown performance in Week 1 against Washington.

Jackson has played 18 games against the Giants in his career. He’s caught 69 passes for 1,109 yards (16.07 yards per reception) with six touchdowns ad rushed eight times for 30 yards and another score.

But what Giant fans will always remember most about Jackson is his 65-yard punt return for a touchdown on December 19, 2010 to beat the Giants, 38-31, with no time left on the clock.

The touchdown capped off a spree of 28 unanswered points by Philadelphia in the final 7:28 to erase a 31-10 Giants’ lead. The loss would cost the Giants the NFC East title and prevented the Giants from qualifying for the NFC Playoffs.

DeSean Jackson expecting to re-join Eagles if they advance to divisional round of playoffs

DeSean Jackson to return to Eagles for the second round of playoffs

The Philadelphia Eagles are limping into the final week of the regular season and if they can hold on to beat the Giants and advance WildCard weekend, a huge gift could be on its way.

Tim McManus of ESPN.com is reporting what many already know, DeSean Jackson is healthy and on target for a return to the lineup if the Eagles are able to advance to the NFC divisional rounds of the playoffs.

Even after winning a head-to-head matchup with Dallas on Sunday and taking a one-game lead in the NFC East standings, the Eagles still need to defeat the Giants in Week 17 or have the Cowboys lose to the Redskins before securing a playoff spot.

If the Eagles can punch then win a home matchup in the wild-card round, their depleted receiving corps could get the best deep ball tracker in the NFL back and he’s just as fast as he was before the injury.

Eagles WR Greg Ward auditioning for starting role in 2020

Former Houston Cougars star Greg Ward auditioning for a starting role with the Eagles next season

Greg Ward has spent the better part of three years on the Eagles practice squad with the idea that he’d one day become an integral part of the offensive game plan.

Ward was cut or released by the Eagles six different times during his stint on the practice squad but after a litany of injuries at wide receiver, Ward has found himself in the role of starter in the slot.

The former Houston Cougars star quarterback had a career-high 61 receiving yards and was on the receiving end of the game-winning touchdown with under a minute to go as the Eagles beat the Redskins 37-27 to set up this Week 16 showdown with Dallas.

Ward now finds himself in the role of a go-to player in the slot for the Eagles and a guy that could potentially find himself in the role of starter for some team in 2020.

His Eagles teammates have seen his value, with Malcolm Jenkins staying after practice to work with Ward, while also politicking for his promotion earlier this season per NJ.com.

Ward signed with the Eagles as an undrafted rookie in 2017 but was never given a true chance to play until this season. According to Over The Cap, Ward is making the league minimum with a cap hit of $174,706 and is signed through next season at a modest $585,000, non-guaranteed salary.

The Eagles could once again move on from Ward this offseason at no penalty, but with Howie Roseman and company needing to get Carson Wentz weapons who can make some plays, Ward is a respectable candidate to man the slot for the Eagles in 2020 at discount.

Retaining Ward would allow the Eagles to focus on adding another playmaker via the draft while building the offense around Miles Sanders and the returning skill position players on offense.

Regardless of what the Eagles decide to do, Ward has shown that he can be a player in this league and he’ll use the final two weeks to audition for a bigger role in 2020.

Dethroning the Cowboys will be a great start.

DeSean Jackson says he’s doing “everything” he can to be ready for potential playoff run

DeSean Jackson says he’s doing “everything” he can to be ready for a potential playoff run

The Philadelphia Eagles are two wins away from making the playoffs for the third straight season. A postseason birth this year could see the return of the team’s most dynamic playmaker.

DeSean Jackson has been working diligently to return from abdominal surgery and while chatting with Jeff Skeversky of 6ABC, the Eagles star is hoping to return for a playoff run if the Birds make the tournament.

Jackson told Skeversky that’s he’s doing “everything” he can to get back into the lineup, “continuously taking steps to put himself in the best position, to be 100% or even 110%.”

Eagles land a WR out of Alabama in Todd McShay’ mock draft 1.0

Eagles select Henry Ruggs III in Todd McShay’s 1st mock for NFL Draft

With Week 16 of the 2019 NFL regular season fast and approaching, some teams are preparing for the postseason, while 20 other teams will really start preparing for the 2020 NFL draft in Las Vegas.

The Philadelphia Eagles currently sit at 7-7 on the season and have a huge matchup with the Dallas Cowboys set for Sunday afternoon. If the Eagles win, they’ll likely be postseason participants.

If the Eagles lose, they’ll be one of the 20 teams intensely preparing to feel a boatload of needs on a aging roster.

With the NFL Draft season in full swing, Todd McShay has rejoined the slew of analysts and scouts set to break down college football’s best players.

On Monday night, McShay released his first way too early mock draft for the 2020 selection process and he predicted a playmaker for the Birds.

With the Eagles having needs at wide receiver, defensive line and in the secondary, McShay mocked Alabama star wideout, Henry Ruggs III to the Birds at pick No. 18.

18. Philadelphia Eagles
Henry Ruggs III, WR, Alabama*

Alshon Jeffrey and Nelson Agholor lead the Eagles’ wide receivers in yards with 490 and 363, respectively. And both have dealt with injuries this season. Last year’s second-rounder J.J. Arcega-Whiteside has just eight catches. Plain and simple: Philly must have speed and difference-makers at the position, and while Ruggs needs some development as a route runner, you can’t coach his 4.3 speed. He just explodes off the line of scrimmage.

This is the season for comparison and Ruggs III could be for Carson Wentz, what Tyreek Hill has become for Patrick Mahomes.

Ruggs III, Miles Sanders and a healthy DeSean Jackson could give the Eagles weapons that would present matchup nightmares for opposing defenses. If JJ Arcega-Whiteside can take the next step and Alshon Jeffery can return, the Eagles would present a formidable offense, capable of giving any defense in the league fits.

McShay’s draft order came from using ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI) through Sunday’s Week 15 games and it will continue shift as the season winds down and draft positions change.

Underclassmen, must declare for the draft by the Jan. 20 deadlines.

Eagles RB Miles Sanders moves past DeSean Jackson for most yards from scrimmage by a rookie in team history

Miles Sanders sets Philadelphia Eagles rookie record for scrimmage yards,

The Philadelphia Eagles selected Miles Sanders in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft and there’s no doubt that Howie Roseman hit on that pick.

Sanders has star power and with a 7-yard run against the Redskins on Sunday, Sanders broke DeSean Jackson’s franchise record for yards from scrimmage for a rookie.

Sanders entered Sunday’s game at FedEx Field with 948 yards from scrimmage on the season, trailing only DeSean Jackson (1,008 in 2008) in the record books.

Sanders entered Sunday’s game with 131 carries for 565 yards and one touchdown. As a pass-catcher, Sanders has 36 catches for 386 yards and two more scores. He’s also returned 14 kicks for 314 yards.

Sanders now has 1,012 yards on the season.

Sanders also has a chance to set the Eagles rookie record for rushing yards in a season.

Sanders ranked No. 4 on the list with 565, trailing only McCoy (637 in 2009), Correll Buckhalter (586 in 2001) and Keith Byars (577 in 1986).

3 things to know about Eagles WR Robert Davis

3 things to know about Eagles WR Robert Davis

The Philadelphia Eagles announced a couple of roster moves on Thursday, promoting Robert Davis to the active roster, after placing Alshon Jeffery on Injured reserve.

With only two healthy receivers on the roster, Davis will get his chance to make a late-season name for himself.

Here are three things to know about the speedy wideout.

***

1. Davis has been productive

The former Georgia State wideout finished his collegiate career with 222 catches for 3,391 yards and 17 touchdowns in four seasons on 15.3 yards-per-catch. The 2017 sixth-round pick played in three games earlier this season for the Washington Redskins.

Davis’ older cousin is linebacker Thomas Davis, formerly of the Carolina Panthers.

Behind Enemy Lines: Week 14 Q&A with Eagles Wire

With a Week 14 matchup between the New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles on tap, we go behind enemy lines for a chat with Eagles Wire.

The New York Giants (2-10) and Philadelphia Eagles (5-7) will square off on Monday Night Football in Week 14.

The Giants opened the week as 8.5-point road underdogs, and the spread has changed only slightly as of Sunday morning with Big Blue now at +9.5

With this matchup on tap, Giants Wire took the opportunity to hold a Q&A with Eagles Wire managing editor Glenn Erby.

Al Bello/Getty Images

Giants Wire: The Eagles are a bit of an enigma this season — up for a couple weeks, down for a couple weeks and repeat. What do you feel has led to the inconsistency and do you believe they will be able to turn things around over the final month of the season and give the fading Dallas Cowboys a run for their money?

Glenn Erby: The inconsistency started with DeSean Jackson’s injury and spiraled from there. The loss of Jackson’s ability to take the top off a defense reduced the Eagles offense to a dink and dump operation. Injuries in the secondary, along the offensive and defensive lines as well has presented the Eagles with the challenge of trying to live up to those Super Bowl aspirations while utilizing a makeshift lineup.

This is a confident team, a team that unfortunately relies on being the underdog and clicking the switch on. Now that they’ve been counted out, I think you’ll see that sense of urgency and consistency that’s been missing.
