Aggies make top 3 for 2023 linebacker Derion Gullette

Texas A&M makes the top 3 for the electric defensive playmaker

Texas A&M has made yet another final list for one of the most athletic and versatile defensive prospects in the 2023 recruiting class, Linebacker Derion Gullette. according to 247Sports, he is positioned as the 24th-ranked player in Texas, and the 16th-ranked EDGE prospect in the country. Gullette’s top three teams that he will focus on at the final stages of his recruitment are Ohio State, Texas, and Texas A&M.

Going into his senior season at Marlin High School in Marlin, Texas, Gullette played wide receiver on offense, tallying 64 receptions for 1,458 yards and 14 touchdowns, while rushing for 13 carries for 74 yards and 4 rushing touchdowns. As an outside linebacker on defense, he recorded 125 total tackles, 3 sacks, 5 tackles for loss, 2 interceptions, and 4 pass deflections on the year. Gullette was also a contributor on special teams as the starting punter and kickoff specialist, punting 30 times for 1343 yards with a long of 62 yards.

So far, Derion Gullette has made official visits to Ohio State on June 10th, and Texas on June 24th, while making 7 total unofficial visits to College Station since last June which on the surface looks to give the Aggies an edge, although Texas is the current favorite according to multiple recruiting sites.

In a scouting report I wrote for Derrion Gullette, I described his ability on the field:

As a prospect, Gullette’s film is just plain fun to watch; catching the ball, intercepting the ball, kicking the ball, and tackling, so yes, the man can literally do it all. As an outside linebacker, he is patient in coverage, shows adequate lateral quickness, and has great ball skills paired with a nice closing burst after reading the route. He is a high-level tackler and an instant threat to outside run concepts due to his speed and athleticism, mostly coming from his snaps at wide receiver. Overall, Derion Gullette has the makeup to become an instant contributor to whatever school he chooses.

All the Texas A&M staff can do now is keep communicating with Derion Gullette and stay patient, and while making the final list doesn’t guarantee a commitment, it does entail that the recruiting process has done its job, and the Aggies continue to make lasting impressions on some top prospects in the 2023 class.

Talented four-star edge and Oklahoma target Derion Gullette names Top 7

Brent Venables leads the recruitment for 2023 four-star Derion Gullette who just announced his Top 7 schools featuring the Sooners.

While the Oklahoma Sooners have two edge prospects that they are favoring in Bai Jobe and Adepoju Adebawore, the Sooners don’t seem to be willing to put all their eggs in those baskets too early. It’s a primary reason why they are still in the running for talented four-star EDGE Derion Gullette out of Marlin, Texas.

Gullette confirmed as much when he released his top seven schools and it featured the likes of Oklahoma along with Florida, Ohio State, Alabama, Miami, Texas, and Texas A&M. Gullette’s primary recruiter from Oklahoma is none other than the head man himself Brent Venables.

Gullette has been to OU once already this year for the March 5th Junior Day and will be making another trip to Oklahoma for the ChampU BBQ along with a slew of other Oklahoma targets.

Gullette plays linebacker for his high school but looks to be a versatile tweener that can put his hand in the ground to rush the passer and play off-ball linebacker. Gullette is a talented athletic prospect whose best football is likely in front of him as he hones in on a position.

He was a Class 3A first-team all-state selection at both WR and punter by the Texas Sportswriters Association all while being recruited by some of the biggest schools in the country as a linebacker/EDGE defender.

No decision date has been announced but with official visits to Texas and Ohio State along with his official to OU in June, it stands to reason that his recruitment is slowly coming to an end.

Four-star linebacker from Texas puts Ohio State in top seven

Linebacker from Texas will be visiting Ohio State in June.

Ohio State has made the shortlist for another four-star linebacker in the 2023 class. We learned earlier in the week that Troy Bowles, a top-ranked linebacker out of Georgia put the Buckeyes in his final eight. Jim Knowles got more good news when Derion Gullette put Ohio State in his final seven.

Gullette is from Marlin, Texas, and is a multi-sport athlete at Marlin High School. He participates in basketball as well as track and field where is throws the shot put.

Along with Ohio State, Gullette listed Alabama, Florida, Miami, Texas, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma as finalists to land his services.

Gullette will make an official visit to Ohio State on June 10. The Buckeyes have no linebacker commits to this point in the 2023 class, but Knowles is making waves with several recruits and clearly, Derion Gullette likes what he sees in Columbus.

Gators crack top 7 for this 4-star Texas linebacker

The Gators are in play for this Lone Star State linebacker after he released his top 7.

Thursday evening, linebacker [autotag]Derion Gullette[/autotag] tweeted an update to his recruiting status, including the Florida Gators in his top seven schools. The four-star defenseman is a native of Texas and is carrying offers from a mile-long list of notable schools.

Gullette is an excellent athlete who runs track in addition to playing linebacker. Of course, his future lies on the gridiron, and he’ll have to bulk up to reach an adult playing weight at his position. However, he’s already chiseled with lean muscle and, physically speaking, will have no problem adapting to collegiate-level competition.

Rated by 247Sports as the 236th overall recruit in the class of 2023, he’s not a keystone addition but would make a good supplementary piece for head coach [autotag]Billy Napier[/autotag]’s bump class.

The Gators’ offer, extended by outside linebackers coach [autotag]Mike Peterson[/autotag], has been on the table since late April. The fact that Peterson, rather than inside linebackers coach [autotag]Jay Bateman[/autotag], is leading on Gullette’s recruitment may provide a little insight into how Florida’s coaching staff views his future role. That’s not necessarily the case, though, as this staff has taken the adage “it takes a village” to the extreme in their recruiting efforts.

The teams who landed in his top seven alongside Florida were Texas, Texas A&M, Miami, Alabama, Ohio State and Oklahoma. Most of the teams on this list are expected inclusions. The Longhorns and Aggies are in on any notable Lone Star native. Likewise, ‘Bama and the Buckeyes make a hard run at just about every good player east of the great plains.

LSU Football Recruiting Profile: 2023 four-star EDGE Derion Gullette

Gullette recently named LSU among his top-12 teams.

[autotag]Derion Gullette[/autotag] is a 6-foot-3, 225-pound edge rusher from Marlin, Texas, where he plays football and basketball, as well as throwing the shot put for Marlin High School.

He picked up an offer from LSU in March, and last week, he listed it among his top-12 teams.

According to 247Sports, Gullette posted a 43-0 shot put as a sophomore, and last year he was selected as the Texas District 8-2A-I Co-MVP as a junior as well as a Waco Tribune Super Centex first-team selection at receiver and Class 3A first-team all-state selections at both receiver and punter by the Texas Sportswriters Association (TSWA).

While Gullette is profiled as a linebacker/edge rusher, he is also a weapon on the offensive side of the ball as he also plays wide receiver and had 1,458 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns last year.

If I could use one word to describe the brand of football that he plays, it would be explosive. To quote NBA commentator Kevin Harlan, Gullette plays the game with a “no regard for human life” brand of football at any position.

If he is on the defensive side of the ball, he is coming at you full speed attempting to knock your head off. On the offensive side, he’s going to run you over. He is a savage, and hopefully for the Tigers, he comes to the bayou.
