Projecting the Ravens depth chart for divisional round matchup vs. Texans

We’re looking at the Baltimore Ravens updated depth chart of ahead of the Divisional Round playoff matchup vs. the Houston Texans

We’re a little over five away from the Ravens (13-4) and Texans (11-7) kicking off the AFC divisional round of the playoffs on ESPN.

Houston advanced to the Divisional round of the NFL playoffs for the fifth time in franchise history with a 45-14 win over the Browns in Super Wild Card Weekend.

The playoff win earned the Texans a rematch against the Ravens, and they’ll return to M&T Bank Stadium hoping to avenge a 25-9 loss in Week 1.

Baltimore has ruled out Marlon Humphrey for the contest, while Pro Bowl tight end Mark Andrews won’t be active after being listed as questionable.

With Humphrey out, Brandon Stephens and Ronald Darby are the likely starting cornerbacks against C.J. Stroud, Nico Collins and the Texans’ dynamic passing attack. Darby has made seven starts this season, as Humphrey will miss his eighth game.

Outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney returned from an illness that kept him out of practice Wednesday and told reporters he’ll play. Wide receiver Zay Flowers (calf) and outside linebacker Odafe Oweh (ankle) also both returned to full practice and said they’ll suit up.

With kickoff fast approaching, here’s a projected two-deep depth chart for Baltimore.

Ravens’ updated 53-man roster for AFC Divisional Round matchup vs. Texans

We’re looking at the updated 53-man roster for the Baltimore Ravens AFC Divisional Round matchup against the Houston Texans

After producing the NFL’s best record (13-4), the Baltimore Ravens return to M&T Bank Stadium on Saturday after earning a No. 1 playoff seed.

They will host the Houston Texans in the Divisional Round (Jan. 20, 4:30 p.m.).

The Ravens clinched the AFC’s top postseason spot for the second time (2019) in franchise history. The 2023 season also marked Baltimore’s first division title since 2019 and the fifth (2011-12, 2018-19) under head coach John Harbaugh.

Star tight end Mark Andrews is not expected to play after returning to practice, and he’ll join cornerback Marlon Humphrey on the list of inactives.

With kickoff a little over 24 hours, we’re looking at Baltimore’s updated 53-man roster for the divisional round matchup against C.J. Stroud and the Houston Texans.

Ravens divisional round preview: 10 things to know about the Houston Texans

We’re looking at ten things to know about the Houston Texans ahead of their AFC Divisional Round matchup against the Baltimore Ravens

The Texans advanced to the Divisional round of the NFL playoffs for the fifth time in franchise history with a 45-14 win over the Browns in Super Wild Card Weekend.

The playoff success earned Houston a rematch against the Baltimore Ravens, and they’ll return to M&T Bank Stadium hoping to avenge a 25-9 loss in Week 1.

The Texans are a different team since that humble welcome to the NFL moment for C.J. Stroud, and all the former Ohio State star has done is shatter records and lead his team to the postseason as a rookie.

With final preparations for Saturday’s kickoff underway, we’re looking at ten things about the Houston Texans.

Ravens will face Texans in divisional round of AFC playoffs

The Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans will face off in the divisional round of the playoffs in a rematch of a Week 1 meeting

The Ravens are back from their first-round bye, and they know their opponent after the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 31-17 loss to the Buffalo Bills.

Thanks to the dominant play of Josh Allen, Baltimore will host the Houston Texans at M&T Bank Stadium in a rematch of a 25-9 season-opening win.

In that game, rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud completed 28 of 44 passing attempts for 242 yards in his NFL regular-season debut but didn’t lead any touchdown-scoring drives.

Odell Beckham had two catches for 38 yards as he deferred to the rookie Zay Flowers in his debut.

Playing in his first game after a ten-month absence, Lamar Jackson was 17-22 passing for 169 yards and one interception while finishing with a 79.5 rating.

Jackson looked rusty at times but was efficient, had 38 yards rushing, and avoided nasty hits.

This is a different Houston team, and the Texans are flying high after dismantling the Cleveland Browns in the wild-card round opener.

Gimme him: 1 player Titans would steal from Texans

Shaun Calderon steals a different Texans player for the Titans ahead of the Week 17 matchup.

When I did my “Gimme him” article ahead of the Tennessee Titans’ previous matchup with the Houston Texans in Week 15, I went ahead and selected left tackle Laremy Tunsil. That was the rather obvious choice, considering the Titans’ left tackle position has been a disaster this year.

However, rather than doubling down, I’m going to go in a different direction this time around.

Texans cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. has had an outstanding sophomore campaign in the NFL. The LSU product has turned himself into a true No. 1 cornerback, earning the 10th-highest overall grade at his position (81.1), per Pro Football Focus.

Also, despite only playing in nine games, he’s already recorded five interceptions on the year, all of which occurred within the last six weeks.

Not only is he developing into a ball hawk, but he’s steadily becoming a true shutdown defender along the boundary. The last time these two teams played, Stingley held Titans receiver DeAndre Hopkins to just two catches for 21 yards.

While offensive tackle and wide receiver are the Titans’ two biggest needs, cornerback isn’t too far behind and Stingley has the talent and potential to be among the league’s best for the next decade.

For that reason, he gets the nod for this week’s “Gimme him” article.

WATCH: Derek Stingley Jr. gets an interception in the end zone before the half

Derek Stingley Jr. saved Houston from giving up points before the half.

With the Houston Texans trailing 22-7 to the Cleveland Browns right before halftime, it seemed things were about to get even worse.

The Browns had the ball in the red zone but faced a third and 10 with five seconds remaining. Instead of kicking a field goal, Joe Flacco took a shot to the end zone. Unfortunately, he wasn’t counting on [autotag]Derek Stingley Jr.[/autotag]

The former LSU star snagged the ball out of the air as time expired, keeping the Texans at least somewhat alive heading into the second half.

Stingley has battled injuries during his second year in the league and has missed five total games this season, but he’s been an impact player when on the field for Houston.

The pick was the fifth of the year for Stingley, who has developed into a very nice piece on a young defense after the Texans drafted him with the third overall pick in 2022.

WATCH: Derek Stingley Jr. starting to break out with Texans

Derek Stingley Jr. has four interceptions in the last three games, including two in Sunday’s win over the Broncos.

[autotag]Derek Stingley Jr.[/autotag] had a slow start to his NFL career after he was taken with the third overall pick by the Houston Texans in 2022.

He battled injuries during his LSU career, and that continued as a rookie as he appeared in just nine games. Injuries continued to plague him during the early part of 2023, as well, but he’s now back in the fold and starting to break out.

Stingley has only played in six games this fall but is already obliterating his production from a year ago. He has four interceptions on the year which have all come in the past three games, and he also has eight pass breakups.

Two of those interceptions came on Sunday, and both were key as the Texans knocked off a red-hot Broncos team.

The Texans are arguably the biggest surprise in the NFL sitting at 7-5 and in range to compete for a wild card spot or even a division title. A lot of that has to do with the play of rookie quarterback CJ Stroud, but a defense filled with young talent like Stingley has also made a world of difference in Year 1 under coach DeMeco Ryans.

Clay Martin’s blown no-call on Texans leads to Trevor Lawrence “interception”

Clay Martin’s officiating crew blew a crucial call that led to a Texans TD against the Jaguars, and tried makeup calls to balance it out.

It should come as no surprise, given the state of officiating in the NFL today. that there was a blown call in a crucially important game. The Jacksonville Jaguars and the Houston Texans are playing for control of the AFC South, but referee Clay Martin and his crew are calling this like a backyard Thanksgiving 7-on-7 in which half the participants are oiled up on tryptophan.

With 11:57 left in the third quarter, Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence threw an “interception” to Texans cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. This would be a legitimate interception only if you completely ignore safety Jalen Pitre mugging tight end Evan Engram… which is exactly what Martin and his crew did.

The Jaguars had a 13-7 lead at that point, but the Texans took that ill-gotten opportunity to score their second touchdown of the day on a C.J. Stroud scramble.

On Jacksonville’s subsequent drive, which ended in a one-yard touchdown pass from Lawrence to receiver Calvin Ridley, Martin’s crew called two pass interference penalties on the Texans.

So, we suppose the NFL’s mindset is, “We’re never going to get it right in real time; let’s just run a bunch of makeup calls and hope it evens out.”

Texans’ Derek Stingley Jr. injures hamstring, could be heading for IR

Derek Stingley Jr. is battling another hamstring injury that could cost him several weeks.

Former LSU cornerback [autotag]Derek Stingley Jr.[/autotag] will likely be unavailable for the near future after suffering a hamstring injury in practice on Wednesday with the Houston Texans.

Stingley could miss several weeks and may ultimately end up on the injured reserve, according to a report from Aaron Wilson of KPRC in Houston. Stingley becomes the fourth starter in the Texans secondary to suffer an injury.

Stingley recovered from a Lisfranc injury that cost him most of his final season at LSU, and the third overall pick appeared in nine games last year, making 43 tackles and an interception before a hamstring injury ended his rookie campaign in Week 10.

He’s dealing with another hamstring injury now after starting the first two games and making nine total tackles.
