Former Auburn wide receiver waived by Seahawks

The former Auburn wideout will have to try his chances elsewhere.

On Friday, the Seattle Seahawks announced that the organization had decided to waive four wide receivers. One of those wide receivers was former Auburn Tiger [autotag]Demetris Robertson[/autotag]. After going undrafted in this year’s draft, the Seahawks signed the Georgia native as an undrafted free agent.

After spending just a week with the franchise, Robertson will now be available to be claimed off waivers. The other wide receivers that Seattle cut — Matt Cole, Jake Herslow, and John Mitchell — will look for new homes as well.

Robertson could certainly start off as a practice squad player elsewhere and work his way into a role on the active roster. In all likelihood, he would be a contributor on a special teams unit early on in his professional career. If no team is willing to take a chance on him, he always has the option to play in other professional leagues. The newly-established United States Football League is an option, as is the Canadian Football League.

He spent one season on the Plains where he hauled in 37 receptions for 489 yards and four touchdowns. Prior to joining the program, he spent some time at Cal-Berkeley and Georgia. The former five-star recruit will now look to make a name for himself at the professional level.

Auburn wide receiver signing with the Seahawks as undrafted free agent

Auburn wide receiver is headed to the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent.

It wasn’t the ideal scenario for Auburn wide receiver Demetris Robertson. However, it all panned out for the Georgia native on Saturday afternoon. Bennett Durando, a beat writer for Montgomery Advertiser, reported that Demetris Robertson was heading to the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent.

Originally, Robertson came out of high school as a five-star. The product of Savannah Christian Prep chose the University of Cal-Berkeley over programs like Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, and Notre Dame. His recruitment was prolonged up until the month of May when he chose the Golden Bears.

He spent two seasons at Cal-Berkeley. He hauled in 57 receptions for 837 yards and seven touchdowns. After the 2017 season concluded, he decided to transfer to Georgia. He would go on to spend the next two seasons in Athens with the Bulldogs. In the two seasons that he played for Kirby Smart, he recorded 42 receptions for 443 yards and three touchdowns.

They always say that the third time is a charm. Well, that may have been the case with Robertson. He would transfer to Auburn after the 2020 season ended. In his lone season on the Plains, he hauled in 37 receptions for 489 yards and four touchdowns. He also returned 12 punts for 89 total yards.

After not hearing his name called in the 2022 NFL Draft, it didn’t take long for one team to call his name, the Seattle Seahawks. He will join Pete Caroll’s team as an undrafted free agent. His role will likely be on special teams early on as he develops the necessary skills to possibly receive playing time at the wide receiver position. After a tumultuous college career, Robertson will look to get off to a good start in the league.

Winners from Auburn’s 62-0 win over Alabama State

Here are our three winners from Auburn’s win over Alabama State.

It was not always pretty but Auburn football rolled to another win Saturday.

The Tigers had a disappointing first quarter but exploded for 35 points in the third quarter to cruise to a 62-0 win over Alabama State. The 35 points tie the Auburn record for most points in a quarter (New Mexico State, 1993) and are the most they have ever scored in the third quarter.

The quarter was capped off by Jarquez Hunter’s 94-yard touchdown run, which is the longest touchdown run in Auburn history.

The Tigers, now 2-0, will look to travel to Penn State and have the chance to make a huge statement across all of college football.

But before that, here are three winners from the win over Alabama State.

Ranking Auburn’s wide receivers in 2021

Let’s rank the Auburn wide receiver room now that Demetris Robertson is a part of the team.

With the addition of Demetris Robertson transferring to Auburn, the Tigers have a much different look at wide receivers entering the 2021 season.

The former Georgia receiver will be the oldest player in the room and will carry the most experience of any skill player in Bryan Harsin’s offense. Although inexperienced, the wide receiver room on The Plains is filled will a lot of explosive players and has a ridiculous amount of upside.

With the departure of Eli Stove, Seth Williams, and Anthony Schwartz, Auburn’s next version of a big three at the wide receiver position will be a wait and see type situation as younger guys like Kobe Hudson, ZeVian Capers, and Elijah Canion fight for playing time in this new Mike Bobo offense.

Let’s rate Auburn’s receivers going into fall camp after the addition of Robertson.

Auburn lands commitment from former UGA wide receiver

Auburn has landed a huge need for the 2021 season!

Auburn has filled a big need on its roster.

On Thursday, former five-star recruit and Georgia Bulldog Demetris Robinson has committed to the Tigers.

Robertson’s best season with Georgia came as a freshman in 2016 in which he caught 50 passes for 767 yards and seven touchdowns. Auburn hopes that he can return to that playmaker this season as the Tigers are short on experienced receivers.

According to DawgNation, Georgia’s sixth-year senior wide receiver Demetris Robertson has entered his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Robertson is now free to be in contact with other schools.

The Savannah, Ga., native signed with Georgia in 2018 after two seasons at Cal where he earned Freshman All-American honors. Robertson hasn’t stood out on the stat sheet, last year catching 12 passes for 112 yards, but he has played in 32 games for the Bulldogs and his experience was expected to be a big help for Georgia in the fall.

Robertson has seen limited playing time since coming to Athens, and was that was likely to continue in 2021 with newcomer Arik Gilbert joining the wide receiver group. Factor in Kearis Jackson, Jermaine Burton, Arian Smith and Adonai Mitchell, and Robertson would likely have seen the bulk of his playing time as a return man.
