Bears agree to terms with ex-Titans DL DeMarcus Walker

The Bears have reportedly agreed to terms with former Titans DL DeMarcus Walker.

The Tennessee Titans have lost another one of their free agents to the Chicago Bears, as the team has reportedly agreed to terms with defensive lineman, DeMarcus Walker.

The news comes from NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, who reports that the deal between Walker and the Bears is for three years, with an annual average of about $7 million.

Walker is the second Titans free agent to land with Chicago after the Bears gave right guard Nate Davis a three-year, $30 million deal.

Walker is coming off a career year in which he tallied a personal best seven sacks while serving in a rotational role for Tennessee. Losing him will no doubt create another hole for the Titans.

However, $7 million per year would have been a bit too rich for my own liking considering that’s closer to starter money for a guy who is a career backup with only one really good season under his belt.

Bears expected to sign DE DeMarcus Walker

The Bears aren’t done yet! Chicago is expected to sign DE DeMarcus Walker to a two-year deal.

The Chicago Bears aren’t done just yet on the first day of the free agency negotiating period. The Bears are expected to sign former Tennessee Titans defensive end DeMarcus Walker, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

According to the Sun-Times‘ Patrick Finley, it’s a three-year, $21 million deal for Walker.

Walker is coming off a breakout year with the Titans, where he notched 7.0 sacks, 32 pressures and 16 QB hits. He also earned a 72.8 grade from Pro Football Focus.

For reference, Walker had more sacks than Justin Jones, Trevis Gipson and Dominique Robinson combined. Also, his 16 QB hits were just four shy of Chicago’s team total of 20.

Walker, a former second-round pick in 2017, joins a defensive end group that also includes Gipson and Robinson. Still, the Bears have plenty of work to do on the defensive line, especially along the interior.

Walker becomes the fourth signing of the day for general manager Ryan Poles. He joins linebackers Tremaine Edmunds and T.J. Edwards, as well as offensive guard Nate Davis.

6 free-agent edge rushers Colts could consider in 2023

Here are six free-agent edge rushers the Colts could consider in 2023.

The Indianapolis Colts have some promising names in the defensive end room, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if they used free agency to add some depth to the position this offseason.

As Yannick Ngakoue, Tyquan Lewis and Ben Banogu are set to hit the market, the Colts could be looking at free agency as a way to add some cheaper production, especially at the LEO position if Ngakoue doesn’t return.

So the Colts are rolling into free agency with the promising youngsters in Kwity Paye and Dayo Odeyingbo leading the room.

We took a look at the following positions for the Colts to consider adding to in free agency:

We shouldn’t expect the Colts to go on a wild spending spree in free agency. It’s not their M.O., and Chris Ballard isn’t working with the same amount of salary-cap space as he’s used to.

Here’s a look at six free-agent edge rushers the Colts could consider in 2023:

Report: Titans’ DeMarcus Walker has ‘a ton of interest’ from other teams

Titans pending free agent and DL DeMarcus Walker is reportedly receiving a lot of interest from other teams.

In recent days it was reported that the Tennessee Titans have had talks about a contract extension with pending free agent and defensive lineman DeMarcus Walker, who is set to hit the open market next week.

But it appears the Titans aren’t the only ones interested in signing Walker, with The Draft Network’s Justin Melo reporting that the veteran defensive lineman is receiving “a ton of interest” from other teams in free agency.

Walker was one of the biggest standouts on either side of the ball for the Titans in 2022. Signed to a one-year, $1 million deal, Walker returned ridiculous value, notching a career-high seven sacks.

Walker is an interesting case. He’s a career backup who put up starter-quality production while not seeing a full complement of snaps, en route to a career year at the age of 28.

How much he makes in free agency will be determined by how teams view him.

If the Titans and/or other teams see him as the very good rotational player he really is, Walker stands to receive more along the lines of what Spotrac estimates, which comes out to $3.2 million on a one-year deal.

If there are teams out there that view him as a starter, that will drive up his price and make it less likely the cash-strapped Titans re-sign him.

If we’re taking this report at face value, the Titans’ pursuit of Walker is trending in a bad direction for their hopes of keeping him.

Report: Titans, DeMarcus Walker have had talks about contract extension

The Titans and DL DeMarcus Walker have reportedly discussed a contract extension.

The Tennessee Titans are reportedly at least exploring keeping one of their pending free agents and defensive standouts from 2022, DeMarcus Walker.

According to Justin Melo of The Draft Network, the Titans and Walker have discussed a contract extension. Melo notes no official offer has been made, though.

The 28-year-old defensive lineman appeared in all 17 games, serving mostly as a backup. He tallied a career-high seven sacks and was one of the biggest surprises for Tennessee last season.

Per Spotrac, Walker’s estimated market value comes in at a one-year deal worth $3.2 million, which would be a raise of over $2 million from what he made in his first year in Nashville, and a fair deal overall.

The Titans should definitely be interested in bringing Walker back, but it has to be at the right price. Walker is a really good backup and should be paid as such, but if he starts demanding starter-type money, he’ll be gone.

Predicting the fates of Titans’ pending free agents: Defense

A look at the Titans’ pending free agents on defense, with predictions for what will happen with each.

Tennessee Titans general manager Ran Carthon will have his work cut out for him in his first offseason with the team. Not only do the Titans need to make major improvements in several areas, they also have to make decisions on their own pending free agents.

Tennessee’s list of pending free agents includes 34 players, with about half of them (18) coming from the defensive side of the ball. No doubt the biggest name of the group is linebacker David Long.

Long has developed into a very good player over four seasons, which flies in the face of what typical sixth-round picks become. However, Long does come with some concerns, and namely his injury history.

So, will the Titans bring Long back? Well, that depends.

We’ll talk about that, as well as make predictions for the fates of Long and the rest of the Titans’ pending free agents on defense. We’ll cover the offensive side of the ball next week.

Tennessee Titans’ best moves of the 2022 offseason

Shaun Calderon lists the four best moves the Titans made last offseason.

It should go without saying at this point that the Tennessee Titans had a disappointing end to their 2022 season.

After starting the year off promising with a 7-3 record, things took a turn for the worse, with the Titans dropping seven-straight contests to end the season.

Tennessee finished the year with a 7-10 mark and choked the division away on the final week of the regular season in a loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

This embarrassing reality not only ended the Titans’ three-year playoff streak, but the team also finished with the first losing record under head coach Mike Vrabel.

However, despite the unfortunate ending, things weren’t all bad in 2022.

I discussed the Titans’ worst moves of the offseason last week, but this article is going to focus on four of the best offseason moves Tennessee made in 2022. Let’s see which ones made the cut.

Potential free agents DC Jim Schwartz could bring over from Titans

Who could the new DC target to help fix the defense?

The Cleveland Browns took the first step in revitalizing their defense on Tuesday when they hired Jim Schwartz as their new coordinator. Schwartz brings with him an impressive track record as a defensive coach as well as some experience as a head coach. The next step will be to improve the roster and Schwartz may have his eye on some free agents from the Tennesee Titans where he was an assistant last season.

Though there aren’t a ton of big or flashy names he could bring with him quality depth is also needed on this roster. Targeting players familiar with his style can also help with teaching new players the ins and outs of the system.

A look at three players that the Browns should add from the Titans this offseason.

4 Titans who should see a bigger role in 2023

Shaun Calderon lists four Titans who should have a bigger role in 2023.

It’s safe to say that the Tennessee Titans had a disappointing season in 2022.

What started with an offseason filled with confusing and controversial moves ultimately culminated in an inconsistent and injury-riddled product the fans had to endure for far too long.

Later in the season, head coach Mike Vrabel claimed the team was at a crossroads, but that statement couldn’t be any more true than it is right now.

These next few months will be crucial in deciding which way the franchise is going to head for the foreseeable future. Expect plenty of new faces to be on the 2023 opening-day roster that weren’t even in the building last year.

Nonetheless, the Titans do have some familiar faces that will be back.

Several of them were severely underutilized, while others seemingly popped up out of nowhere after waiting for their overdue opportunity.

Without further ado, let’s dive right in to the Titans who should have a bigger role in 2023.

Behind Enemy Lines: Previewing Week 16 with Titans Wire

The Houston Texans take on the Tennessee Titans in Week 16. To help with the preview, @MichaelMoraitis from @thetitanswire fields some questions.

The Houston Texans and the Tennessee Titans settle their season series on Christmas Eve.

The 7-7 Titans don’t need to play down to the level of their competition as first place in the AFC South slips from their grasp. However, the 1-12-1 Texans have proven over the past two weeks to be anything but pushovers when taking on playoff caliber teams — just ask the Dallas Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs.

To help get ready for the Week 16 showdown between Houston and the Titans, Mike Moraitis from the Titans Wire stopped by to take a few questions about Tennessee’s quarterback situation, Mike Vrabel’s power struggle, and more.
